Refresh Rate Unstable - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Recently got my phone and upgraded to OOS11 on the spot. The 120Hz screen is an amazing experience but coming from the 7 pro, the experience just felt a lot more uniform on the 7 pro. I've tried both AutoHz and the adb method, but both methods seem not to prevent certain situations from causing a lower refresh rate. I recently downgraded from OOS11 to OOS10 to see if it was more stable, but it seems it solved some but brought up new issues (though overall OOS 10 is a bit more stable). Here are a few I can recall:
1. Screen rotation (both OOS 11 and OOS 10)
2. Typing on whatsapp with the keyboard up. It'll start off at 120Hz but sometimes, scrolling will revert to 60Hz, confirmed using the refresh rate counter. (OOS 11)
3. Google sheets, scrolling around on the spreadsheet with the keyboard up. Once the keyboard goes down, refresh rate reverts to 120 Hz (OOS 11)
4. Scrolling on some websites that include tables.
5. On the lockscreen - noticeable when pulling down the notification shade and scrolling / clearing notifications (OOS 10)
I just felt like I never really had to worry about any of this when I was on the 7 pro. Everything was smooth at 90Hz. On the 8 pro it's just jarring having most things at 120Hz then these small little things that detract from the performance. It's kind of driving me nuts

i9000 < p1000 ???

I've been swiping some time on a Galaxy Tab and all the fuzz ,that it's more stable en responsive, is a joke.
I definitely saw more jittering on the XXJID(tab) then on my current JPK(i9000). Tilting the screen wasn't as fast, opening apps went as smooth, scrolling trough the screens was slightly stuttering more on the tab then on my phone, sure let's trow that problem on his higher screenres. (I can see more then 27fps, gamer's eyes!)
Though i did noticed a slightly better pinchzoom ability on the touchwiz and menu interface...
Max unreserved ram is 444MB while he needs 150MB the least! (without widgets and background apps)
but to tell you that it is faster then a properly setup i9000, noo fkng way!
any tablet always feels better with pinch-zoom.
simple reason is there is a greater area for gesture support.
well i didn't meant it's easier to actually "pinch" it, but what's going on after the pinch; there's less/no stuttering (menu pinched or instance, it's impossible to scroll smoothly with 10 pages of apps or more(or less))

[Q] yoga 2 830 UI stutter on lollipop

Hi all
Has anyone got a fix for the slight ui stutter that seems to happen on nova and apex (and most launchers) ? is only a little but enough to annoy me have tried turning on GPU rendering , disabling hardware interface and loads of different launchers.
Its only a small issue for an otherwise great tab ! but just feel it shouldn't happen. everything loads at lightning speeds so makes no sense ... guessing its poor software optimization.
The Lenovo launcher is terrible and its clear they sped up the transitions to hide the choppiness.
Next launcher etc work very smoothly but the wallpaper bugs if i rotate the screen.
Would rather not root the tab as it will stop me watching NOW tv etc.
Ps tried super touch but no use
I discovered the same issue - switched to Action Launcher 3
I have a Yoga 2 830, manually updated to Lollipop 5.01 using the Intel tool. I always immediately replace the stock launcher with Apex. It was with Apex I saw saw the little graphical glitches. There appeared to be no pattern, occurrence or reason for it.
At any rate, I switched to Action Launcher 3. You get all the same features and functionality, plus it has a smaller memory footprint.
For the record, I'm rooted using the Intel FBRL and also used it to install the current Xposed Framework ZIP. Everything is peachy so far!

Has anyone noticed any screen strangeness?

I've noticed with certain apps the screen is a little jumpy/odd.
At times it's just buttery smooth, but with others......
I'm wondering if it's a setting thing.
Teamviewer is a bit jumpy when scrolling around.
Run catlog and try scrolling the log up and down. It gets very 'smeary' and the refresh goes nuts.
inheritage:Boe was also choppy at times
I've noticed that too. Particularly when using sliders. You know, to increase brightness, saturation & so on.

Tab 4 plus slow scrolling speed

Hi. Just purchased a tab 4 plus. I am satisfied with the performance and overall impressions are good. However, compared to other android tablets and phones I have to say that the scrolling is quite annoying. It's ok as long as I scroll with the finger on the screen, but as soon as I remove my finger the scrolling slows down and stops quite fast. No smooth scrolling and not possible to quickly scroll down to the bottom of a page.
I read on another place that this maybe have to do with kernel governor settings? Have anyone tried to change this or use any other settings to improve scrolling smoothness?
Kind regards,
Exact same problem, can't find any answer to this
+1 on certain apps it sometimes takes more than one swipe to get it to respond.......

Is Pie Beta Worth It?

Hi! I have a Zenfone Max Pro M1, and I really want to update it to Pie. The only thing that's holding me back is the lack of Gcam. Should I update it now and loose Gcam, or should I wait for a stable version that may include Cam2Api?

There are 3 bugs
1. Cam2API not enabling/Gcam not working.
2. PUBG HD not working.
3. Audio output via Headphone is slightly lower than Oreo builds.
Apart from that everything is as stable as Oreo if not better.
Choice is yours if you can cope with those bugs or not. For eg. for a non-gamer like me those bugs hardly matter, Pie is good for daily driver for me.
Review
Zenfone Max Pro M1 Pie Beta Review Points
Cons.
GCAM not working, even after the hal3 enable command.
Audio output via headphones is slightly lower.
Pie navigation bar has overlapping icons and recent app slider is not optimised.
PUBG not available in HD settings.
If you are in roaming, the icon on status bar will have overlapping icon for 'R' and '4G'.
Split-view in not easy access. Now from the recent apps screen you have to tap-hold the app icon above the app card and then select split-view to enter the split-screen.
Pros.
Apps opening slightly faster.
Animations are better.
Once the system is free of bugs, the whole thing will work better then Oreo.
Till then wait for the stable release and stick to Oreo.
Personally I miss GCAM, rest I don't mind.
P.S.

One more issue is night light is not working although it's present in the developer option. Screen brightness seems too much for night.
Apps opening seems faster because animations scales set to . 5x default in the developer section.

I don't play Pubg and I don't listen to music, my only real concern is Gcam. I just wanted to know if the update compensates the lack of Gcam, but thank you very much, because I didn't know about the audio bug! ?

Personally, I could deal with all those bugs, but I really like Gcam. If it was available on this Beta, I would not think twice before updating. But thank you very much for the information!
