Hi M3 users,
I'm a long time lurker and reader on XDA. Now it's time to give something back or at least participate
Following my recent M3 purchase a dugg a bit deeper into this topic and tried to get us the stock recovery for our devices.
I'm not really a dev. I just used the information I found here and in the russian forum where greatslon (thank you guy) is posting his work.
If you find an error in the process please let me know. The files have not been tested in any way. I have no idea if this would even work (encryption and so on).
So I managed to extract the recovery.img file from the chinese rom. This method will also work for the LTE variant.
Maybe @greatslon or @somboons can share their view on the topic or maybe @somboons can even use it in his tool.

1. Start firmware finder (did use the android version)
2. Change device to BTV-W09C233
3. Downloaded the firmware B019 for BTV-W09C233 (no firmware for other variants present ATM)
4. Extracted and copied update.app to SD card
5. copy to PC
6. Extract recovery.img and recovery2.img using Huawei Update Extractor

Don't quite understand what's this for. First of all, recovery should be the same version as your ROM. I don't know if their mismatch will immediately lead to some malfunction, but some people on 4pda said they should match. Second - stock recovery's functions are limited to factory reset (wiping data, cache, etc.) and installing OTA updates. Without changing OEMINFO (and it's still unconfirmed), you won't be able to install any OTA except those, intented for your model and region, so again there's no need to install a higher version of recovery than your ROM is. But anyway, thank you for the extraction instruction.
P.S. I think there's no need to flash both recovery and recovery2. Recovery2 can be successfully replaced with TWRP and this combination is really great, cause you can launch TWRP by holding Volume Up button only.
And the only reason why you should keep recovery original is that it doesn't really wipe /data - it also creates some files there like custom.bin, containing your regional settings.
Hi Slavon,
Thanks for your highly appreciated comment. @somboons was looking for a stock recovery so I thought this might help.
Your given information are really helpful. I did not know that you could flash TWRP in recovery2 and replace erecovery Handy information.
I'm pretty new to the Huawei structure so always glad to learn something.
EDIT
A lot of good information can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-7/general/dual-recovery-honor-7-t3308398

Giving Back
Benjamin,
I've also been a long time XDA lurker. Most of the devices I have owned were mainstream and thus already had a very active XDA developer community; Even if root had yet to be achieved, there would be hundreds of messages on the topic.
It seems the Mediapad M3 is just getting started. I am a developer of over 20 years, but very little android experience. However, I have recently spent a considerable amount of time (about 50-100 hours) working with the low level ADB protocol source code. And I have rooted and flashed no less than 50 devices, everything from cell phones to Android TV devices to routers.
I'm going to take this device on as my first real dev effort in this arena.
I have a few goals:
1. Get working backups for people that soft-brick or need to revert (including myself).
2. Recompile TWRP for the M3 to confirm greatslon's work, and better understand the process.
3. Release a stock rom that's pre-rooted and cleaned up (not that there was a lot of bloat on my device).
4. Release a custom rom that's not MIUI (perhaps based of CyanogenMod).
Since I have virtually no experience, I am sure these goals are quite lofty and will take some time. But hey, you got to have a plan, and I don't have anything else to work on right now.
Let me know if you want to work on anything together, or if you need any help with anything development related.

Hey hey 0D0A,
I totally agree with you regarding the backups, I think once the first OTA update is pushed for the EU and US devices we have a good and safe way to go back.
Especially the US owners are struggling with greatslons TWRP version, that's the first thing we should tackle after the backup topic is cleared
I will contact you regarding possible work
Best regards,
Benjamin
can flash twrp via fastboot but get error saying and no recovery
hi, first thanks greatslon for doing the work on m3.
i seem to have succeeded in getting stuck and can't get it to boot into your custom twrp. adb on linux was working fine, but no longer. ditto for fastboot just get "waiting for devices" now. i switched to win10 and installed the hisuite app so i can use fastboot but still no adb. so i have tried to flash recovery and recovery2 but when i try to boot recovery i get error "Func NO: 11 (recovery image) ERROR NO: 2 (load failed)."
i then downloaded your custom rom and tried to flash the boot for that still no luck. i can't use adb so i am not sure how to just flash the custom rom with fastboot without being able to get into any recovery.
i did have this all rooted and working with your twrp but kept having issues with dpi and there was an ota update (b003) which wouldn't apply. so i tried to restore backup and it wen't south from there. basically now can't do much other than see the unlock "can't be trusted" page and bootloader.
any suggestions?
Desperately need stock recovery img, not sure exactly what when wrong, but it is stuck in a horrible boot loop. Tried Benjamin's recovery files and they seem to remove twrp and put it somewhat back to normal, but can only access the emui recovery and that fails to load the files. Put twrp back and tried greatslon's ROMs, they load but goes back to boot loop. Wipe and format everything, install my original backup through twrp recovery, it says it works, but again, back to boot loop... at this point I think I'm dead... any ideas, any word on the official recovery img? anything? Help!!

Hello, I am unlocked, TWRPed, and rooted, but am trying to reverse all of that. My build number is BTV-W09C128B002. Is it safe to download the stock recovery from the OP for my device? Or do I really need the C128 version?
Hello and sorry for the late response, you would need the matching version for your C128 device.
I may be able to extract recovery from an update, I have to look into this tomorrow.

Thanks! I have been able to use the Huawei Extractor to extract a recovery.img from OTA updates, but have been afraid to try flashing it. It has been recommended to hold off on trying that since that recovery.img is from an OTA and not a FULL update. Any thoughts?
I have my X727 on 5.8.021S. The guides posted do not work for my device as I cannot unlock the bootloader. Am I out of luck if I want to mess with ROMs?
If I'm following things incorrectly, please advise.
Thanks!
Try this, https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/how-to/flashing-guide-roundup-leeco-le-pro-3-t3511901/page3
That is the only thing that worked for me, read thru the entire post, it mentions something about "steps on flashing aboot"....if you cant figure it out, do it the long way, intall the update for the Chinese version, then unlock the bootloader from there and install TWRP. best rom so far is Turbo is stock and all settings work as intended.
I was able to unlock bootloader and root with .21s. I had to flash aboot and one other file. Then I followed the guide for unlocking and rooting and it went fine.
I did the I the instructions at the end of this thread by thesing603
https://forum.xda-developers.com/le...-persistent-bootloader-unlock-t3500388/page20
Y'all are all seriously making this way too hard and doing way too many unnecessary steps. I've already rooted and unlocked two pro 3s on 21s. Basically just update to 21s, boot into bootloader, flash unlockable Chinese zl1 bootloader from 19s persistent unlock thread using aboot and xbl files, reboot bootloader, FLASH TWRP to recovery, then BOOT TWRP recovery, FORMAT/WIPE DATA PARTITION, then push SuperSU zip to phone storage. Install super su, clear cache/dalvik cache, and reboot system.
Phone will probably reboot twice during initial boot...THIS IS NORMAL. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes while It optimizes apps. Then setup phone as you like. boom , stock 21s with root, permanent unlock and TWRP.
I appreciate the comments. I was able to unlock using the two flashed files. While I'm here... What would be the return to locked and stock method?

to return to locked you will simply boot into bootloader and flash the aboot and xbl from a legitimate , official OTA update such as 20s or 21s. Just like you did with the unlockable Chinese bootloader files. Except flashing the two files from an original x727 OTA update file reflashes the original locked bootloader.
As for going back to stock, once you've rooted the system, you'll have to reinstall the system partition via something like a TWRP backup. That's what I did. Simply flashed my original locked bootloader files, and restored a official .21s TWRP backup to get unrooted.

As a side note, clicking "thanks" on the helpful posts is much more constructive than posting "thanks".

Ok, this might be a stupid question but I'm not really sure. In developer options, where it says OEM unlocked unlock Bootloader, is that having the Bootloader unlocked? I'm seeing comments about having to flash different files to unlock Bootloader. Can someone clarify this issue for me. I just bought the leeco Pro 3 today lex727

Not trying to be rude. For real. But google is your friend on your question. And where you think i'll be rude is saying if you don't know what that button does in developer options you do NOT need to be customizing THIS device. It is NOT a fun phone to unbrick. We prepurchased the phone the day it was announced what 2 odd years ago? And I bricked the phone on the bootloader unlock. And I am seasoned well on android for 8 years now. And struggled.
Google.

Here is the answer that you need, https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75009966
You are fine to ask, especially when you can't find the answer. Plus, the steps for the X727 are very different than the steps for the X720. There are so many variations of the Le Pro 3 that a google search may cause further confusion.
Self aggrandizing answers are useless clutter.

Yes, here you go : https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=962187416754456705
If you install a modern Rom , you will want to update to TWRP to the latest
which can be found here: https://dl.twrp.me/zl1/ ( twrp-3.2.3-1-zl1.img is the most recent )
you will also want Gapps Arm from here : https://opengapps.org/
And Magisk from Here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Hello,
In a late-night act of utter stupidity, when over-tired, I re-flashed the boot recovery with TWRP and bricked my M3. It obviously can't now enter boot recovery.
I've used TWRP and successfully re-flashed custom roms on my original Mate, and changed regions. (Not in any way an expert, I know how to follow instructions.)
I was trying to convert my Chinese (I was living there) ROM to UK. It's tricky nowadays.
This was a stupid error when tired. Any way back?
I read somewhere that people with the right hardware can do it, but finding someone. I'm in Leeds, UK.
The pad does (did) what I need, and I'm not in a position to buy a new one. If it's dead, it's dead; and I can move on.
Cheers in advance for any input.
SOLVED
See my last post on this thread.
After using Multi Tool V8 to enquire into the machine I switched off and rebooted.
It came back with a "Wipe cache" and "Reset to factory settings" Huawei screen, so I did both and - It booted!
It had spectacularly failed to do anything but boot-loop since coming out of a very dead battery yesterday.
1) Boot recovery, OTA recovery, and dload recovery from SD were all unavailable after the original overwriting of the bootloader.
2) After being dead for months, all recovery options booted from power button plus vol- Vol+ and Vol+/- - but still bootlooping.
Then, suddenly it booted into wipe cache/factory reset screen.
Android 7, EMUI 5.1.3
I have no idea why.
Now fully working. (Including restarting)
I fell in a similar situation after having flashed a magisk module .. unfortunately my nandroid backup didn't restore my devices, but I was able to enter in twrp recovery.. so,..
if you can boot in twrp recovery, not all hopes are lost..
first of all, you must download a stock firmware for your device (i suggest to download trough huawei firmware finder: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tools/general/huawei-firmware-finder-team-mt-t3469146/amp/)
You must download a fullota version of stock firmware
then, you can flash this firmware (3 zip files) trough hurupdater via twrp recovery: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ho...lash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279/amp/
in order to not overwrite twrp recovery, put the twrp.img file in the same folder and rename it to recovery.img
you can find more info in this topic (follow the instructions, in particular those on how to use hurupdater): https://forum.xda-developers.com/me...ting-btv-dl09-to-unapproved-firmware-t3817541
in order to find a firmware suitable to your device, try to find info on it: you have a mediapad m3 European? American? asian? just wifi or also 4G-LTE (whit a sim and phone functions)? lite or normal version? 10 inches or 8.4?
everyone of these devices have different codenames and suitable firmwares
I found exact firmware for my devices with the procedure described here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77241673&postcount=3
.. but, if you flashed a wrong firmware, i really don't know if it might help you..
anyway, i wish the info above could help you.

Well...
After being without power for so long I turned the tablet on and it booted!
However, it then went into OTA and updated - rebooted - and locked the damned bootloader.
1) It's showing as rooted.
2) Boot loader is locked.
3) Fastboot & rescue mode comes up.
4) Recovery (OTA) still comes up but "Fails" this time.
I don't recall how I unlocked it last time. I don't ever rememebr an unlock code.
Status:
Fastboot reports it exists.
ADB reports "Null" not found. (ADB drivers installed).
Firmware version: CPN-AL00C233B078
Device name: CPN-AL00
Serial Number: Showing
IMEI: Showing
Bootloader state: LOCK
I have an old TWRP backup - don't know how to use it.
Solutions?
a) Any kind devs prepared to work with me and find the boot unlocker code for this 5-year old tablet?
b) Any other solutions now we know what's what?
I'm self employed without income in this pandemic and can't really afford to buy a new tablet. If I have to, it won't be Huawei.
(There's a T3 10.6" at £89, but I'm not biting - I need to sort out a budget tablet with at least the oomph of the M3.)
Any help much appreciated. :good:

Android 10 downgrade.
now the tools are available in realme website to unlock the bootloader...
install deep testing apk and unlocking the boot loader with the android 10 ( procuder will be found in realme website)
After the bootloader is unlocked......follow the procedure below..
second reboot to bootloader and flash the twrp recovery
and reboot using fastboot command itself
it will go straight to twrp recovery mode.
just give wipe data function which is default...
then flash the android 9 ozip , after that dont reboot to system
go back and flash the stock recovery from android 9 which is attached with this post and then reboot..
now you are back to android 9.
this method is working for me ..
after sitting many hours with stucked twrp recovery i just flashed the stock recovery and it get in to the device
Please read whats the state of my realme x2 pro so that you can understand what I have done.
I purchased the realme x2 pro 12gb/256 in the uk , it is shipped with the android 9, there was some OTA update and I had done that and the phone was still in Android 9 with some bugs fixed. Again I recheked the software update for Realme ui update but nothing was found.
So I headed to realme uk website and downloaded the Android 10 realme ui ozip , copied to the phone and updated. Now the phone was in android 10 with realme ui.
The software update is good but I don’t like the finger print animation and also I noticed a sight battery drain, but I am not sure if it was same like in android 9 , I mean the batter life. So decided to go back android 9 . so after so many tries and all finally downgraded to android 9 with the bootloader locked and widevine to L1 and google pay working. Now all stock and all finger print this and that working !!!
Downgrade procudure :-
Backup All the things that are required, All will be wiped.
1.First thing is to unlock the bootloader in Android 10 because of I updated to android 10.
Follow this link below , download the deep testing apk and unlock the bootloader.
https://c.realme.com/in/post-details/1253651898825703424
2.Make sure you all had the proper working adb drivers in pc and android bootloader drivers,
After completing the 1st step , Download the twrp from the link below:
I downloaded the one in this name TWRP 3.3.1-13 Unofficial by mauronofrio
https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...covery-unofficial-twrp-realme-x2-pro-t3997879.
How to flash twrp in realme x2 pro follow this guide below:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/realme-x2-pro/how-to/guide-unlocking-bootloader-to-getting-t4010189
follow the procedure above and until flashing recovery and don’t flash vbmeta and all
3. Download the Android 9 firmware with stock recovery , this was the lastest one I dowloaded from xda
(https://forum.xda-developers.com/realme-x2-pro/how-to/rmx1931ex11a-10-available-t4059607)
4.Downloading stock recovery :
https://sourceforge.net/projects/rmx1931ex-stock-files/files/RMX1931EX_11_A06_GLOBAL.zip/download
download this zip file and use only the recovery.img after unzip , this is the only file we need from this folder
Second part:
I Assume the bootloader is unlocked , the device wiped and rebooted to os , copy the ozip in the and stock recovery in internal memory, we might need to use this for later.
now flash the twrp using the guide above and reboot to twrp recovery.
In twrp install the android 9 ozip that we downloaded in the phone memory , after it flashed don’t reboot.just go back and flash the (recovery.img) from twrp itself and choose the path recovery and flash , after that the phone will reboot and it will go to stock recovery. Then give a wipe in the stock recovery and reboot. Now you are back to stock android 9.
Now we are in android 9 with the unlocked bootloader. That’s all.
For those who needs to lock the bootloader read the information below
Check the stock recovery version number ( if it shows rooted near the version number) if it says rooted don’t relock the bootloader. From the phone just run stock ozip again and let it boot in to os, after that again check the stock recovery if rooted string is gone. If it is gone now you are good to lock the bootloader.
Because with unlocked bootloader the google pay is not working so for me locking the bootloder is important for me , also I checked in the device info that widevine is change back to L1.
dont lock bootloader with twrp recovery
where can i get in depth test for global version ?

- More battery long lasting on A9, perhaps more services are running in A10 rising power consumption or not well updated.
- In early versions of A10 call recording was capped due privacy rights. With the last update C.26 I can record calls but not tag the records accesing to the contacts list.
- Also in the last C.26 update of A10, you can take RAW photos in 'expert mode'.

Thanks for ur help But is there a way to get a stock recovery for Chinese version ?
Are you sure that we don't have to flash vbmeta.img.because somewhere i have read that if i don't flash vbmeta my phone will be dead
will still working on CN Rom based devices?
Even after installing the ozip from phone my recovery says rooted! Anyway to change that or remove the root?
Hello there! I've loved using twrp on several of my devices over the years and tried today on my OP 8P and each version that I have tried lands me with the Qualcomm CrashDummp Mode.
I'm guessing I haven't found the right version. I have been on the latest update from OnePlus. An update today made everything weird, so I decided to go with a custom ROM thru twrp. Now I'm here!
So far I've unlocked my bootloader and tried flashing to both of my partitions.
I've tried:
twrp-3.4.0-2-instantnoodle-unified-mauronofrio
twrp-3.3.1-0-instantnoodle-unified-mauronofrio
340 Oneplus 8 pro mauronofrio
Anything else I can try flashing?

You obviously don't read. It says next to the twrp download that its NOT compatible with Android 11
You gotta read for every ROM installations and every mods
Hi if u want to flash a custom ROM first check what type of ROM u are flashing, whether its Android 11 or 10. If u are flashing Android 10 custom ROM, when ur Oneplus 8 Pro is running Android 10, u can do it by unlocking bootloader and flashing TWRP recovery.
If u have updated ur OnePlus 8 Pro to Android 11, then u cannot flash TWRP as its incompatible. U have to unlock bootloader, install recovery image given in the ROM download page and flash the ROM via abd sideload in the recovery menu.
If ur OnePlus 8 Pro is bricked here is the unbrick tool. Download the ROM and flash it via MSM download tool by going to EDL mode.

Make sure u have the right drivers installed in ur PC.
For going to EDL mode refer this video
Then next thing: Post ur doubts or questions next time in Q&A section. Research well before u start flashing my friend. It ll be easier and smooth.
Take care.
Yep @paarry I was mislead by an article I read that has instructions for twrp be installed on a OP 8P a few months ago. I later realized that I never found anywhere else that said it was possible no matter where I searched, certainly not their official site.
Well, I fixed my problem by ceasing to try any more twrp versions and pivoting to @CarbonROM and so far it's been good.
