Any way to disable optimizations on reboot? - Shield General

I rooted my Shield Portable and I'm looking for a way for it not to delete the dalvik-cache on shutdown. I tried the optimizer fix app, but it ended up soft bricking my device.
Any advice would be appreciated, thank you.

Android Market: instant 'Download unsuccessful' message

Hi everyone,
I'm positing because I have a peculiar issue. I cannot download from the Android Market....and I have tried the solutions on the internet from clearing data/cache to trying to sync my google account in different ways...
Here is the background:
- Bought used Vibrant on craigslist
- rooted, unlocked, then unrooted, then hard reset
- no external SD card
After every hard reset, in two instances now, I have been able to download from Android market SUCCESFULLY for about a ~30 min window. After this time window, any download from Market does NOT work, and after clicking 'Install' immediately goes to the red triangle status 'Download unsuccessful.'
At all times, my internet still works fine, both on 2G/3G/wifi.
Android market website does NOT show my device (is this because the device only works with the very first sync when the phone was purchased??)
Something is locking me out from downloading. It's come to such a stupid workaround that since I know Market WILL work after a hard reset, I do a mass download of my app essentials in the ~30 minutes that I have.
Thanks for any help in advance!
Clear market cache
also, setting proper permissions on /data/ and /data/app might help (with a program like root explorer)
Do you use titanium backup? Restoring any setting? I got similar problem when I freeze "media container" in titanium backup.
Had this problem when z4mod was setting incorrect permissions on /system partition
All,
To avoid the issues with any roms/rooting, I unrooted the phone, as stated in the first post.
I basically got the phone back to 'stock' settings, and I have this issue. Any additional help would be great...this is my first experience with Android and it has only been headaches....
getting nostalgic with my old E71. haha
So, did you use odin to go to jfd?
I'm really interested and willing to help, just santo make sure I understand everything that you've done.
How did you root?
Why no external?

[Q] 1.4.2 Rooted with SQLite Edit

Followed the instructions that GMPOWER had with the manualnooter -
1) Upgraded to 1.4.2, then rooted it with recovery SD... no problem.
2) Made the SQLite edit to change the auto OTA upgrade to manual... no problem.
3) Added apps, and then grabbed the Amazon Appstore and added apps from there... no problem.
As I was going into the "Settings" folder through the NookColorTools, got a "something wrong with your system and rebooting" message and then got the system rebooted and got the clearing /data prompt...
Anyone know what's causing this? I wasn't anywhere near the 'incorrect' bootups and such... I believe I did a search for it, but maybe I didn't look hard enough...
Thanks for your help in advance.

1. Are you overclocking the NC? If so, there's no guarantee a particular NC will work at 1.2ghz.
2. Which apps did you add and what access rights did the apps require?

I suspect you tried the 2nd "settings" option. That seems to trigger a remote reset. When I first tried it, it also seemed to wipe my uSD card contents.
Keep in mind, NookColor Tools only exposes options. It's not responsible for what they do. I think we stumbled into a remote reset function and triggered it.
For anybody that wants to confirm this: Please do a backup first!

nope, no overclock, although, i do have dalingrin's kernel... and i didn't add any apps manually, so i didn't mess with the chmods...
thanks for the response! i'm thinking that it is the 'second setting' option that did it.

It seems to be the equivalent of telling annoying online players to press Alt-F4 for cheats.
I have done this twice now, surprisingly with the same effect. I think I'm done testing it.

[Q] Force close loop after editing platform.xml

I wanted to bypass the kitkat restrictions and be able to upload directly to the external SD card with AirDroid, but this seriously backfired on me lol. Ever since editing the platform.xml file in /system/etc/permissions/ and rebooting the phone I've been stuck in a continuous force close loop. I've wiped the cache but this didn't improve anything. I was able to turn all data connections off which actually prevents the force closing from happening, but that seriously diminishes how smart my smartphone is so staying like that is not an option
Now that I've stopped the messages from happening, I've noticed that my internal SD isn't being recognized anymore. Camera doesn't work, the file manager shows zero files and my gallery doesn't show any pictures either. Same for the MP3 player. Most apps are broken now, but some who don't require an internet connection still work.
At this point I'm thinking that I've probably corrupted my internal SD? I think my system partition is fine as I can still run apps and use the system as it should, but I can no longer create files, maps or do anything that requires my internal SD.
Are there any suggestions as to what I should do next? Formatting/factory resets are a last resort so I'm hoping anything can be done to recover my phone! Thanks in advance!

Your SD card is recognized by the PC or laptop? I think you wrote some fault in the platform.xml file... can't correct it?

My PC is able to recognize the internal memory and that there is only 2,7GB of free space (which seems about right). However, when I enter the drive it appears empty. Windows isn't able to see anything. So in that regard Windows is acting the same as my phone.
As for platform.xml, I added <group gid=”media_rw” /> to “WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE“ and didn't do anything else besides that. It's really weird how this happened in the first place.
Any suggestions how to go from here? =)
edit;
I also removed the added permission but this didn't change a thing.

Should have probably tried this. Instead I became frustrated with the device and did a factory reset (which didn't solve a thing) so the problem is somewhere in the system which is causing the errors. Going to flash the latest stock rom in a bit and HOPEFULLY the phone will work again.

A factory reset will only wipe the /data part. Because you did something in /system that part is untouched. A reflash should fix it.

Yeah I noticed, my bad.
However, I flashed the latest stock rom and did another factory reset but the problem is still present. I keep getting a force close loop. What am I forgetting? What can I still do to fix this problem? I'm at a loss here xd

hi,
As you were "playing around " with your externalSD why you don't copy everything you have on it , format it and see if it works ..before restoring anything onto it

Download CM Cleaner and run it to clean junk.
(If no root, uninstall or disable/force disable it so it doesn't run in the background and eat memory. If rooted - get root uninstaller to debloat)
I ran I to this and couldn't install any new apps on my S4. Cleared the cache and now have over 4 gig free. Can't believe 4 gig got wasted in the cache and the OS didn't clean it.

Marshmallow problems

Hello all,
I've upgraded my SM-N910F to Marshmallow BTU and while everything seemed OK at first, I noticed that the stepcounter in S Health has stopped working. I tried resetting the app data and restoring data from cloud backup as well as removing the update installed after MM to no avail.
Yesterday, I also noticed that the screen rotation has stopped working too. I appreciate that one of the recommendations might be to wipe and start a fresh but that's not an easy thing to go through and I would much rather leave that as the absolute last resort.
Has anyone else had this issue and is there a better way to resolve this without wiping?
Thanks in advance

Did you uninstall Facebook? That also removes libgnustl_shared.co, which affects rotation. Here's a zip of my file (6.0.1 XSG for 910C), no assurances it will fix it short of a reflash, but you might give it a try (unzip first) -- put it in system/lib/ and set permissions to 644.

Thanks @rogerinnyc that library fixed the rotation issue. Why on earth would an additional app not really integral to the system remove such a critical system library is beyond me. It's evidence of the kind of alliances these companies make to force their products upon the consumers. I would understand if the device were given to me free of charge but having paid a fortune for MY device, I don't think this is acceptable.
Jeez dude, so much modesty for ****e things! I am a simple person, so the way I see it,
Fu(k Facebook.
There you go.
