CWM Recovery image for Thinkpad Tablet 1838-22U? - Thinkpad Tablet General

Hi,
I'm trying to get a Thinkpad Tablet 1 I have back up and running. It's currently running stock 4.0.3, and is rooted. I want to install the CWM Recovery image that's available in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831161
Specifically, the attachement here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1292481&d=1346343910
However I keep getting randomly redirected to the registration page, or get a permission error, when trying to access that thread.
Does anyone have that CWM image? Or one that will work on the original Thinkpad Tablet?
Thanks!

Luckily I've found a handy thread on a Russian Lenovo forum: https //translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ru&u=http //lenovo-forums.ru/topic/282-recovery-cwm-%25D0%25B4%25D0%25BB%25D1%258F-ics-thinkpad-tablet/&prev=search&pto=aue
And the link to the CWM Recovery image is http //lenovo-forums.ru/Files/OS/Tablets/ThinkPadTablet/recovery.rar

Hi there,
can you guide me on this how to root and install custom ROM on Lenovo ThinkPad 1838.
Thanks

[Q] Installing Iconia Root while in Unstable Rom

My first post please bear with me.
This should be on thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276227 but no privilege yet.
1. My noob question is "while on unstable 3.0.1" how could I install the Iconia Root / Acer Recovery, whilst I couldn't connect to wi-fi because the keyboard keeps on hiding due to errors?
2. If I would do a hard reset, does this will give me the factory default of stock 3.0.1?
Thanks,
You should have already downloaded these before doing the rollback.
Acer recovery you can download through the http android market.
As with Iconia root, check the initial sticky's in the dev forum. Should be a zip file posted there for the apk.
It's possible to get the keyboard to work--I wish I could tell you exactly how! I fiddled with the keyboard/input settings and eventually got a keyboard that doesn't crash. It's white and not very pretty, but it works.
I also figured out some way to get the keyboard working and also needed to download the recovery tool (the instructions did not mention that I needed to download it before the rollback).
But does a USB keyboard also not work? Just try plugging a keyboard in de USB port and see what happens.
download acer recovery installer, iconiaroot 1.3, and also a custom rom or stock 3.2 with root included and install it. Download it to your sd card . After you have downgraded to 3.01 unstable install some filebrowser and root it with iconiaroot , after that install acer recovery installer and then update your superuser binaries from market. Shutdown your tablet and start it holding power plus volume up button to acer recovery, wipe all cache and install custom rom or stock 3.2 rooted.

[Q] "K1" Factory Recovery

Is it possible to restore back to the factory ROM on the K1?
I ran through the "Rooted Lenovo TOOL -Lenovo IdeaPad K1 ONLY!-" from the Dev forum. I tried a ROM recovery with the update.zip/update.xml in the download folder. Can't seem to get into the recovery rom and once the system boots the update files are removed from the download folder.
Can someone be kind enough to point me in the right direction.
Thanks
I watch the video and yes I'm a n00b!
If all you care about is getting it to some "stock" version, and are okay with it being rooted. Try the nvflash method from khanning. There's a thread on rootzwiki.
K1 to stock 14_14
I currently have the K1 rooted with the 13_13 update.
I have the recovery app installed, and I am trying to install the 14_14 OTA I downloaded from Lenovo. However, the ROM I flashed with has the K1 as a Xoom tablet in system>About Tablet.
When I use the recovery app and navigate to install update.zip it fails because it is recognizing the wrong device and fails.
How do I flash the 14_14 to my Lenovo K1?
Thanks
Just posted it the other day.
If you want 14_14_120109 stock not rooted
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1560441
If you want 14_14_120109 rooted with CWM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1564002
If you don't want to reflash everything because your trying to keep all your data intact then:
**This would remove root and recovery but your data will be kept**
1. Open the update.zip that you downloaded from Lenovo. K1_A301_14_14_120109_US.zip
2. Go to META-INF/com/google/android/ and open updater-script
3. Delete these lines from the top:
Code:
assert(!less_than_int(1326090640, getprop("ro.build.date.utc")));
assert(getprop("ro.product.device") == "K1" ||
getprop("ro.build.product") == "K1");
4. Save the file and flash via recovery
Before you flash the zip in recovery make sure you toggle signature verification

Confuse about unlocking bootloader

I bought this tablet and I want to install a custom rom. I am not interested in dual booting. I found a thread titled
"[GUIDE]A500/501/G100W-Installing ICS V8 UNL-BL & CWM Or back to HC BL(24-6-2012) "
Information there is a little confusing to me. On my A200, the steps were simple, unlock boot loader, install CWM and then root/install rom. Then I was done. Seems like I have to do more steps on theA500, which I don't mind I just want to do it right. Is it my understanding that the thread is for dual booting, it also talks about CPU ID.
I found another thread that talks about Afterota v1.09, do I only need to just do this for what I want to do or do I need to do more? Why would I need to install a ICS bootloader, I have ICS now, stock, doesn't it already have it? I tried looking at the Q/A but I just ended up more confuse.
Could someone just give point me in the right direction so I can go about unlocking bootloader and installing CWM so I can install a custom rom.
I have Android 4.0.3 Kernel Version 2.6.39.4+ Stock
Side question, my unit is a 16gb model but its only reading about 12.71gb, does anyone know why?
A500 works differently: the stock ICS BL is locked and cannot be unlocked from fastboot. What we can do however, is to flash custom BL, since we know the device "Secure Boot Key". In general the term "ICS BL" means my patched BL, which you can find in my signature. There is a bunch of guides to get it flashed on the forum, and blackthunder made a tool to simplify the process.

Alright, so I do not need to do
Option 1 use Afterota for A500/G100W IF YOU ARE ON OTA ICS and follow this thread
or
Option 2 , keep reading.... don't be a chicken , just do it !!.
then I just need to use blackthun3r tool? I tried it but when I launch A500APXFLASH.EXE it ask me for a SBK and the guide said this "the v0.4 APX flash tool will give your SBK automaticly !!" but its blank it has not given me SBK automatically. So I was directed to this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1810618
which has the "SBCalc "
which then directed me to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1624645
which reads
GET ME MY CPUID!!!
There are 2 different cpuid
ICS CPUID has only 13 digits/characters and is your "serial no." as reported in settings, on your sdcard cover and on the box
we are only interested in the 15 digit HC CPUID this can only be got:
(1) From a PC using Blackthund3rs A500 manager
(2) From your device using Terminal Emulator App
(3) From USBDeview must have previously used the Tab under HC with the PC you're using
(4) From a uid.txt in any Honeycomb-cwm backup in external_sd/clockworkmod/backup/"your_HC_backup" folder
(5) From adb devices if you're running honeycomb
(6) From cwm 1.7.2 via on screen display and a text file - great if you are on ICS already
(7) Master_Ellis has posted that he found the HC cpuid in /sys/firmware/fuse/acer_cpuid - add a zero to the front!!!
please if anyone uses this let us know if this is correct!!!
thanks Master for the heads Up!!!
(8) Gersma's most excellent OTA Toolmakes most of this thread obsolete!!!! Thankyou Gersma for all you've done OTA Tool is all anyone ever needs....
Features :
I don't get it though, I thought you said all I needed was the blackthund3r apx flash utility. I'm really confuse, can you specify what I need to do?
I went back to the original thread where the blackthund3r flash tool is and it clearly says
"3-When it askes for your SBK you need to type it in , the v0.4 APX flash tool will give your SBK automaticly !!"
But I do not see the SBK come up automatically. Man all I want is to be able to flash roms ;/ Can you specify what I need to do please I do not want to jump the gun here and brick my device. I see two files in the zip file, a500 Manager v1.0.2 and Apx Flash Utility v0.4
Alright I figured out what I was missing and manage to go through the whole process easily. I have Apex now but how do I install CWM or TWRP? WHen I go into recovery I get a dead android.
Lots of trials and errors lol so I figured out Recovery only works the first time, is there any way to have CWM on there permanently?
Update
Recovery always works now, wasn't sure if that was a glitch or what. Anyways, thanks Skrilax, that little piece was enough for me to get going. I understood the guide once I knew what I needed which required me reading a few threads. Guide kinda needs to be tweaked a little.

Recovery not sticking is due to having a stock rom. Rooting with ICS Root 7.1.1 stops this
Sent from my Iconia A500 using Tapatalk 2
Just noting: stock recovery won't work, and if you ever applied OTA, booting Android will overwrite recovery, unless you remove the updater. And for the guides, all will work, some are more automated, some less.

[Unbrick][Stock] Yoga Tab 3 - How to unbrick, and restore to stock.

I work at a shop and someone brought me a Yoga Tab 3 8" tablet that was on a screen that asked for an original google account.
It was purchased without much thought because i figured it was just part of the setup.
No this is actually a Device Protection feature google has had since Lollipop apparently.
There is a way around it if anyone is interested or is in a soft brick that they can access the recovery from.
NOTE :
THIS IS FOR THE YOGA TAB 3 8" YT3-850F ONLY!!!!! I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU DESTROY YOUR TABLET! PLEASE BE CAREFUL. DO NOT FLASH ANYTHING FOR WRONG MODEL. CONFIRM YOUR MODEL NUMBER BY LOOKING ON THE BACK STICKER BEFORE PROCEEDING.
You will need :
A Computer
A Micro SD Card and Adapter
A couple of hours time
Patience...
Patience........
Firstly, as always, make sure the device is charged before attempting any of this please.
Download the stock firmware from This Link.
Do not extract the firmware at all or rename it, just leave it as it is, it will take about an hour to download.
After you have the firmware downloaded move the zip file to the root of the MicroSD Card on the computer.
Eject the SDCard from the computer and put it into the Yoga Tab.
Reboot into recovery by pressing Power and Vol+ let go of Power when you see the Lenovo logo.
Once in recovery go ahead and do a factory reset/data wipe.
The next step is to actually flash the zip you put on the MicroSD earlier. You go down to apply update from SD using the Volume + and -
buttons. Power to select an option. Select the Zip you downloaded from this guide.
it will take approximately 20-30 minutes to fully install the update. after it installs it will boot up like new again, with no Google Device Protection, and it is a possible way to unbrick!
Hello, Where did you find this firmware? I'm looking for Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 YT3-X50F. Thanks

It looks like a modified package from China. I successfully installed the zip file. After rebooting, the version noted was YT3-X50F_S000022_150714_PRC (which I presumed to be People's Republic of China). The update zip does not contain any Google apps (including Play Store).

That's correct; but you can just flash the Gapps 5.1.1 ("mini" package) from Cyanogenmod (that's what I did); and then once you've got superSU installed, remove the non-North American "store" apps ^_^

Sorry for the delay in my response, but yes, this is correct. Just flash the Google apps and you will be good to go. I'm not sure where I found the firmware but there is a link there to the download. I'm pretty sure I just dug around google alot and found a post to the firmware somewhere else on XDA but to tell you the truth it was actually really difficult for me to get google apps installed and working properly and this firmware sometimes would not flash it would just sit there saying opening update.zip for hours. Good thing the battery life on that thing was amazing.

A good starting point for this is to look into rooting and get a custom recovery. Then you can flash zip files, such as google play store.

You can flash the TWRP for the x50M and then install google apps. The recovery will not stay - it will revert back to stop recovery. Search XDA for TWRP-2.8.7.7_YT3-X50M.zip
Recover, install recovery, root
BEFORE ANYTHING.... unlock your bootloader
Install Drivers for Lenovo Tablet, So Adb can see your device
Open your Adb Command Windows (windows)
Commands!
Adb Devices ------- this should return a device Id # ... if it doesn't your drivers are not correct ....
Adb Reboot bootloader -------- this Should take you to the Big Lenovo Screen (it will stay there, this is fastboot mode)
Fastboot Devices ------- This Should Return The Device Id (except fastboot Device Id #)
Fastboot Oem unlock-go ------- This Should Unlock Your bootloader (allow flashing of custom firmwares, boot images, recoverys etc) THIS WILL WIPE YOUR DEVICE!!!!!!!!!
After unlocking bootloader
Flash this Stock Firmware (if you haven't already)
This is FULL STOCK FIRMWARE ... not an OTA zip...
Downloads - Lenovo firmware YT3-850F | Easy Firmware

Custom Built TWRP by Me... Enjoy
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1d...ew?usp=sharing
(this was based off the Twrp source that metalchef mentioned)
I recommend BOOTING it through fastboot if your only planning on flashing a few things and taking a single backup here and there... if you flash zips ALOT ... then just flash it ...
Fastboot Boot Recovery.img (this is the command you need inside of fastboot for booting recovery)
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (this is to flash recovery to tablet)
#Note# you need to put the recovery.img inside your adb folder... or drag and drop it to command window after typing "fastboot boot"
This will allow it to boot from any file path ....
To Gain Root ... Use Kingoroot , Un-intall the Superuser that kingoroot gives you ... get supersu (chainfire) from market and update the binary....
or flash supersu.zip through recovery
( I haven't tried to flash supersu because kingoroot worked) and ive exhausted so much time on the recovery ... im going to take a break ...
Afterwards .... You SHOULD have the device your seeking....

[Solved] Resurrecting ancient TPT, need CWM

I've got an old Thinkpad Tablet (183823m) that still works alright and could be resurrected as a wall display or something. The problem is it's Andriod 4 and nothing supports it anymore.
I'm working towards installing a custom ROM, maybe this CyanogenMod, which was the style at the time.
I already have root from here
I'm now looking for a Clockwork Mod image and many posts point to this particular thread which is now inaccessible. I was wondering if there was a backup of the image or another CWM for this TPT - if anyone has permission or particularly strong memories.
Internet archive version of the page
Ah I found a link that worked!
Link to post with CWM Image link:
From this RU mirror
And attached here for posterity. TPT CWM recovery
