Restoring Acer A501 - broken google play services and Recovery mode - Acer Iconia A500

Hello
I have Acer Iconia Tab A501 with unlocked bootloader some TWRP and Omni 4.4.4 rom ( rooted )
For a while now google play services are constantly crashing , when popup is dismissed -it's just back within second . Tried to clean cache etc. but it didn't work
I wanted to reset it to factory settings to see maybe issue will go away ,
- Tried to reset normally : go Settings>> Factory reset , tablet just resets and is as it was
- Tried to enter recovery mode, to maybe install newers gaps , power down tablet, vol + power and for a brief moment I can see message ( loading recovery image ...) and then tablet resets just launching as normal
- google play services is in version 20.39.15 maby it would be possible to install newer apk ?
- I can put tablet into APX mode ( hold reset and power ) but even though I installed all drivers for USB Acer on Windows 10 , A500APXFlash by blackthund3r complains no drivers installed ( and in device manager APX is listed with warning )
- I can operate tablet ( closing constant error pop-ups ) so maybe there is some app that I can install to repair recovery ?
- google play store is busted but can install some apk not requiring google stuff
- I can reboot into bootloader which is I think then launching it in fastboot download mode (?) , but I have no idea what's next ( and maybe missing drivers as well ? )
- I have drivers : USB_Acer_1.00.0524_A30H_A31H_A32H_A500_A501
Can anyone help me and guide me what current procedure to make it working currently is ( I did flashed it but it was soo long ago, but have sbk )

Sorry to bump , but maybe at least somebody can give me a hint which drivers I need to make it work under Windows 10 ?
The ones downloaded through A500APXFlash link ( I think those comes from acer ?) clearly are not detected when my tablet is in APX mode

Maybe try this? Seems too be the Google play store without needing google play services. You need to be on lollipop though. I would recommend installing android 5.1 without gapps and trying it out.

[Q] A500 - "Android logo" loop

hello everyone ,
my Iconia A500 , just broke down or i don't know exactly what's wrong with it ,
it's rooted stock -ICS-4.0.3 , 6 months ago
and the last thing happened in the past 3-4 days :
1- "Air Playit" was downloaded 2 days ago
2- reading news /Facebook/messenger , occasional games
3- opera browsing
that's it , no physical impacts , nothing abnormal else
now for no reasons , the tablet shut down ..
and stuck on "Android" logo ...and never past that for an hour , then it shut down
any help please with "preserving data"?
I would connect Micro USB cable to PC and device...
and see if PC recognizes device...then if you can see it in ADB or APX mode..
at least you can modify stuff with PC recognizing it..
Maybe take out External SDCARD and click it back in.
try to boot into recovery mode
mess with it when power cord is plugged into it and NOT plugged in
*** IF you are ever are able to enter into a RECOVERY mode, I'd wipe Cache + Dalvik (so it can refresh files and apps) (it doesn't erase anything, settings, apps, etc)
hope you have your CPUID #
Dought this is very helpful, APX mode saved me after my tablet was bricked for 2 months

things been done till now :
1- CPUID extraction
(1) From a PC using Blackthund3rs A500 manager
not readable
(2) From your device using Terminal Emulator App
not accessible
(3) From USBDeview must have previously used the Tab under HC with the PC you're using
only 11 digits were founds under the exact given criteria
(4) From a uid.txt in any Honeycomb-cwm backup in external_sd/clockworkmod/backup/"your_HC_backup" folder
not available
(5) From adb devices if you're running honeycomb
not available
(6) From cwm 1.7.2 via on screen display and a text file - great if you are on ICS already

Well I wish that I could help in a way that would let you preserve your data. Hate saying it. It is probably lost. The 'save my data' prerequisite is probably why there are no answers to this point. I won't say that it is impossible, just highly unlikely. Sorry.
So if you get tired of waiting for an answer for that and just want to get your tab up and running I would humbly suggest that you consider these...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1624645
Tons of great information and the support from the OP is legendary.
I think that you will end up at this page...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1751978
This one is not an easy read or an easy process for those who lack Linux experience. But with a little patience you should be fine. Just be sure to read through the first few pages. There's a decent amount of information in that single thread, and not all of it is in the first post.
Once you get through those two threads you will, without a doubt, be able to continue with restoring your tablets software to something useable.
Good Luck.

I'm in the same boat. The same thing happened to me two days ago. Stock ICS + root are the only mods I've done.
I'm going to finish reading through to see if anything worked. :/
---------- Post added at 03:53 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:42 PM ----------
In my case, I'm not so interested in preserving any data as I had already relocated everything important to GDrive and my external SD card.
First attempt, I tried booting into recovery which, I'm guessing, tried to grab an update.zip from the SD card that wasn't there. When nothing was found it proceeded to a green android boot screen and then quickly changed to a dead android with a hazard symbol on it. The boot bar below the logo crept slowly for several minutes and then stopped and hung for about an hour until I gave up.
Any quick ways to get me back to a stock blank rom?
ok , i think i'll let go for the data ... although it's VERY annoying -_- considering i did never lose any data since 1990 with dos / windows / symbian , i'm very disappointed with my first experience with Android and Acer ..
anyway here is my thoughts ,
1- first i tried All possible ways for extracting the CPUID in many forums .... except the "Ubentu" one ...which i'll give it a try soon after my surgery exam
2- another VERY annoying point honestly , it's the "inconsistency" ....
i mean , when i pressed the reset , it stopped showing me the "android-logo" , then after couple of resets , it started to show it AGAIN !!
then , doing hard reset (+vol + pwr + the or.lock) and confirmed erasing data and cache , the "android-logo" disappeared , and only ACER !!!
another , one normal reset , and it appeared again !!
ok ok ... let's forget this
i tried all 7 Stock ROMs ...
each SINGLE ROM , gave me at least 2-3 different responses !!
- the loading bar alone
- the robot with rotating thing , no loading bars
- the dead robot , no loading bar
- the robot with rotating crystal , with loading bar which get stuck at 25%-30%
- the dead robot , with loading bar which get stuck at around 20%
- Nothingness !! ( yes , it boot up from update.zip , then nothing happen)
*each trial , i gave it at least 20 min to progress up ... but with no use
anyway ,
3- i'll try again last time extracting CPUID , so i can install EUU ROMs .... but anyway ...
guys , does anyone know any relation between the S/N of the machine and the CPUID ?
just trying to think alittle bit differently , maybe , the S/N is 22 units long , so maybe there is a relation between them ?
4- if all failed , i think i'll have to wait till i get to dubai soon , because no service center in my country -_- !!
5- last resort , i'll use it as cutting table in my kitchen -_-
please guys ... help
IDEAS !!
i know you said the drivers are installed but I'm not sure they are....but try this
put your tab in manual apx mode and hook up to your pc - if theres an apx device listed then run afterOTA Lite version to get your cpuid that way...there is no relationship between the serial no and the cpuid...if nothing else works the only answer is Linux, as all the others have said
ok here what i have done ...
installed Ubuntu 12.10 ... done
installed all developer packages ...done
extracting the UID ... 0x3806148417f4317 ... done
double check ...the same result ...done
trying to convert to SBK ... FAIL
adding extra -as advised- "0" so the UID become ... 0x03806148417f4317 ...done
converting to SBK ... done
back to windows 7 ...done
trying to make "A 500 manger" or "A500 APX" detect the tablet ...fail
windows detection to APX .. done
retry "A500 manger or APX" ...fail
downgrading from "acer USB drive" 1.06 to 1.00 ....done
trying "A500 manger or APX" ...done
on "A500 APX" ... chose package 13 , put the SBK , APX detected , the tablet show "Acer" in green color with "Acer Iconia APX Mode" ... (finally something different)
"A500 APX" asks me if i saw the new "APX mode" ... yes
and then
it continued in all steps with success
till reaching " Exiting the bootloader..."
and it hangs for 30 min on that stage with no respond not what so ever !!! -_-
any ideas , guys ?? :fingers-crossed:

Hello! What did you do in the end? I have something not exactly the same, but a similar situation to yours. Your final solution could be my salvation too...... :crying:
Thanks in advance for any help.
Regards.
The tool he used flashes a custom recovery as well as the unlocked boot loader..for some reason the recover.img got corrupted...u must use the ones that come with the tool and use the tool to install it. Once u have the unlocked boot loader you're able to use a flash able zip to change it if u want.
So to answer yr question just reflash again. Choosing the bundle market option select bundle 17 its the latest version and seems most stable.
The window in the s/shot is fast boot menu, power volume up. Wiping cache helps if you are stuck on Acer boot logo

[Q] Defy problem pls help

Dear all, can someone help me please. ( First of all sorry for my english, Im not native speaker )
- Phone: Defy, 4.1.1., CM10 - rooted.
I installed CyanogenMod 10 last week but my phone is unusable now. System is obviously damaged. There are many lags a freezes.
But main problem is:
- There is no google apps ( so i cant download and install apps )
- There is no file manager - i cant acces storage directly from phone
- When I try switch to recovery, phone just going to reboot and nothing more.
- When I connect phone to PC - ODIN cant load it. ( i installed all drivers for defy )
- usb connection to external SD on PC works fine ( but i can see only external card )
- when I try reboot to recovery in terminal emulator ( #reboot recovery) I get this " unable to create file/cache/recovery/bootmode.conf "
- phone lost all settings everytime I reboot.
So Im unable to repair current rom or flash new one because i cant acces recovery, storage or market.
Any ideas for me
Thanks very much

Well sounds like you did not follow the installation instruction for your rom. Some roms depend on preinstalled system/data. Start from the beginning Use RSD Lite to flash stock SBF, root, install 2ndinit, follow the installation instructions for your rom.
You could also try to wipe data/cache and reinstall the Rom of your choice first. Use Vol Down @ boot to get into bootloader/recovery.

How to remove a hardcore virus ?

SOLVED
Solution : Solution is as simple as downloading the LG's Mobile Support Tool / ( For other phone brands download the provided official support tool )
Within, there must be an option to reset the phone and flash the stock ROM ( the tool should download new firmware meaning its clean so the virus should be removed that way )
I did it in a different way as i was unaware of the solution at first, you can read the whole progress of elimination below if the 1'st solution didn't work for you
Solution #2 : ( Starts from edit#5) Basically try to flash any package ( or the specific package i used ) with the tool i used untill it will make your device go into emergency mode, followed by a prompt "Connection to server failed, try again in a moment". If you don't get that error, then the flashtool will probably just flash the firmware and the virus will be probably gone anyway.
If you do get the error, simply Download the LG Mobile Support Tool, which will then detect your device in emergency mode and download and flash latest firmware.
PS : if something fails in the last step, try going to Device Manager on your pc, and disable LG Modem driver ( Under Modems )
Big Thanks to EVERYBODY from ONEPLUS FORUM who participated in helping me to get rid of this virus ( thread can be found under exact same name as this one )
OLD Elimination Progress Post :
Device : LG-P700 (L7)
By hardcore i mean that it survives hard factory reset, system resets, doesn't allow to boot into bootloader/fastboot/stock recovery via adb manually or by physical buttons ( device simply reboots ).
I haven't found any good way to unlock bootloader for this device, other then using the Clockwork MOD present in the xda developers thread for a guide on this device, which doesn't seem to do anything other then simply rebooting the device, it says "unallowed user" during process.
The device seems to be infected hard and the "virus" starts to download graphical apps and pop random ads when the device is connected to internet with a big grey image that says "Hello World".
Edit : I've pushed and installed malwarebytes into the system ( via adb, without internet connection ) so it could scan for viruses. It found 6 threats which cannot be uninstalled.
Description :
Andrdoid/PUP.Adware.Airpush
Android/PUP.Exploit.Lotoor.bg
Android/PUP.Riskware.Agent.glvp
Andrdoid/PUP.Lotoor
Android/Trojan.Elfan.a
Android/PUP.Lotoor.un
When uninstalling these with malwarebytes, the names of the aplications are as follow ( not correspondent to the previous list's order ) : System Update; PacProcessor; WifiPatches; com.android.set.confim; Contacts; Network
Those are names of the threats, the apk's and their location are listed below but are not relevant
I will now try to maybe uninstall them somehow via adb...
Edit2 : When i try to uninstall any of them via adb it just prompts "Failure"
Edit3 : Tried to root the device with framaroot, without internet connection, Aragorn's exploit doesn't work, prompts "Error#7". Gandalf's exploit works, but "installation of Superuser and su binary have failed"
Edit4: Entered recovery mode ( i don't know if that is relevant ) via physical buttons, i get this image : ( unfortunately i can't post outside links yet, so i will quote the message ) "Press and hold the POWER key more then 8 seconds to reboot and continue using phone" ( rest of the message is irrelevant )
Nothing else happens, device doesn't react to touch, only way to continue is to reboot as prompted
Edit5 : I tried to flash the latest available firmware ( V20H (AORFBK) ) using LG's flash tool 2014 ( you can find it if you google it, its the xda thread, you can download it from there, sorry i can't post links. Use the normal flash, choose your country and then click start )
It extracted the package, and then prompted me : "Connection to server failed, try again in a moment", then booted the device into emergency mode, device does not respond to touch or any other physical button
If i remove the battery and put it back on again, device does not longer boot to system, instead it boots to this emergency mode
Solution has been found and edited into the first thread
This thread can be locked now if necessary
Can someone please update the title of this thread to "How to eliminate hardcore virus ? ( SOLVED, solution inside for LG l7 )
Thanks

Solution: 50% when unlocking bootloader

EDIT: SOLUTION (Not a fix)
For those who are stuck at "50% saying current account is different from the a/c info of device"
It is due to the database miss-match in their server ,the possible sollution are :
Remember: for MediaTek devices you will have to first flash a China Dev ROM onlu then you can get the unlock successful.
But this is not a recommendation for Qualcomm Devices.
1. Go to i.mi.com and look weather your device shows up in the find device (this is required only to be sure as to your device is connected to their server and they have updated the info on your Device too).
2. Reset your Phone sign in and turn on find device. turn on usb debug and oem unlock connect to pc allow whatever is asked on your phone also check always trust, then open adb folder and open cmd there and type adb devices your phone will ask for authorisation allow it and check always trust.
3. Mail your concern with user ID and also the snapshot of the error as they will ask for it,to your regional service (I am an indian so i had to mail it at [email protected])(just google contact xiaomi) wait for their reply.
You can PM these persons on MIUI forum regarding the 50% stuck issue.
{ EDIT 2:
You may contact these person in MIUI forum:
1) vincent_khoo
2) PatrickXi
( @bravonova gave me these names you may try I haven't cross checked as mailing will most probably solve) }
The last method should Work for everyone as it's a db miss-match which should be fixed after this.
PS: This a solution and not a fix so it will take time.
PPS: Don't blame me for all the trouble Blame Xiaomi.

Ok, so I have been trying to move to miui 8 global beta version now for a long time and haven't succeeded, the updater app says could not verify update package.
I have a pretty good net connection so that's not an issue.
Also If I try download latest rom it says "Can't download update, wait a minute or two" and this it has been saying for about a week now (ironic).
So, I requested for unlocking the bootloader got the confirmation messages after 3 days tried to unlock now stuck at 50% saying "account is different from the account in the phone info"
I don't want to use the fast boot edl method of flashing rom as my lappy keeps getting sudden shutdown, so I don't want it to shutdown in between and get hard bricked.
I have tried MiPc suit but since it cannot do a backup(again app bug) so cannot flash through it.
I have looked in to the mi cloud and my phone does gets located.(possible solution given for unlock bootloader but even that didn't work).
Can anyone please help me on this or will I have to be on this ****ty unrooted Rom forever.
Currently on miui 7.5.3.0 global stable rom.
Any suggestions will be appreciated ty

Now boot into recovery mode :- turn off device and hold volume up + power button.w8 for the drivers to get installed.
I was stuck at the same 50% error..one of d xda member told me to boot into recovery mode and let the drivers get installed and taddaa...bootloader unlocked
Make sure u r logged in to the same account in ur phone u r using to unlock the bootloader
I fixed this by updating to latest version in miui app in fastboot mode.
Same problem for me. I tried using the MIUI PC Suite, it tells me my phone isnt up to date even though it is. Recovery mode drivers fail. Requested unlock over 2 weeks ago and got the SMS 9 day ago... still stuck at 50% error. Its driving me nuts.

First of all thanks for the reply sir but
I tried entering to recovery mode and then connect to pc but nothing happens, I mean it does not show connected even after say 5 minutes.
Although when trying to enter into the fastboot mode and then connecting to pc the drivers do get install and it shows connected and stucks at 50%
I do have adb drivers RN3 USB drivers installed on my pc
But all things in vain.

connect your device to your pc and let the drivers get installed...and if u are using a desktop pc do not use the usb port which is at the front of the cpu..use the one which are at the back of the cpu...the image i am attaching shows which drivers get installed.
after drivers get installed remove usb cable and again boot into fastboot mode (power + volume down ) and try again to unlock bootloader

how to flash kenzo_global_images_V7.3.7.0.LHOMIDD_20160523.0000 .23_5.1_global_f5889c1549.?
when i connect my device in recovery mode nothing happens
For Kenzo / SD / Snapdragon only.
1. Install Mi PC Suite, plug your phone in and install the app on the phone when it prompts (then close mi pc suite) - this provides all the drivers needed for the next step
http://en.miui.com/thread-92720-1-1.html < Mi PC Suite
2. reboot the phone to recovery mode ( Vol UP + Power ), let drivers install on pc - wait, then reboot again to fastboot mode (VOL Down + Power) let drivers install on pc - wait - it might take a few minutes to install the drivers don't unplug the phone during this time.
3. download and install the unlock tool - log into your account, after it checks you have permission press unlock
http://en.miui.com/unlock/ < unlock tool
----------------------------
(if it still fails proceed to next step)
4. use xiao mi flash beta and install the latest kenzo global fast boot image (I have heard some people needed to use the Chinese dev firmware- the global stable worked for me though), use the clean all option selected at the bottom of mi flash. (this will erase ALL data on the phone)- backup before doing this.
http://en.miui.com/thread-281979-1-1.html <- xiao mi flash beta
5. let phone boot up first time, log into the mi account on the phone with your email / password, if your phone number doesn't work then select option to log in with email / password.
6. reboot to fastboot again and press unlock it should proceed now
Do at own risk I am not responsible for bricked devices.

it must install the drivers...please do check out the steps mentioned above by the xda member "otyj" he helped me to unlock my bootloader
I had the same problem and believe me I did everything possible as you are also advised in this forum.
But it had nothing to do with this.
Just wait and watch.. try everyday once and I think you will get in 7-10 more days.
I was also frustated at that time but now I can unlock everysingle time I want when it gets locked.

Okay I will try flashing a rom through MiFlash toll b'coz the above methods didn't work and will quote if that's how it gets fixed

After crash the tablet is stuck on the boot menu

Hello,
I am new here and hope you will be able to provide me with some help.
Yesterday after crashing my, yoga-book(android) restart and showed me a boot menu with the following option:
*Continue (does nothing)
*select language
*boot manager( no option available after selection)
*Device Manager
*Boot maintenance Manager ( in this, reset system does nothing)
I have explored a little bit the menu and try to change some things but nothing works.
I am currently trying to install new rom from my latptop with the intel tool. however, it seams that I can't see the device from my latptop.
Christmas has already passed, so I can't ask santa for a new tablet.
Has someone managed to solve a similar issue?
Thanks for the help
Did you installed the latest magisk?
No, I have'nt installed Magisk or TWRP.
But I am not sure how could I do that with the devices in that state ( and not even regognized by windows)
I have found this thread with similar problems.
I am trying to use the Platform Tool lite from intel but there is not device listed with the tablet on the boot menu.
I went in many menu and activate some features related to fast boot but it is still unsuccessfull
