What's your preferred custom rom for F2 Pro? What are the advantages or the disadvantages of it over other roms or over the stock rom?
You have to use roms to see the advantages and disadvantages
I use Xiaomi.eu weekly and it better than stock. No adds, bloatware and other stuff..
MSM-Xtended is the only one I can suggest as it's the only non stock rom I've used. Everything is smoother with safetynet passing and widevine L1 out the box. Highly customizable and better battery over stock.

Thanks for the answer. I'd like to ask what's the deal with Widevine L1 in Xiaomi phones, does it come with the ROM? I have a LeMax2 and I've reflashed it in EDL and lost the L1 capabilities - no way to restore it also.
I remember the Sony days, unlocking bootloader would erase DRM.

As of now only the main and wide angle work. I think the same applies to all custom roms.

To be honest I couldn't tell you. This is my first xiaomi phone and the only phone I've ever owned that didn't permanently lose L1 after unlocking the bootloader. If I had to guess, I would say this is so because Miui is infact a custom rom posing as stock
EU 12.0.8. I used to be a huge AOSP/LOS fan, but Control center and Floating windows in MIUI 12 are too convenient for me to ever consider going back that way.

I switched to crDroid. It's a very good rom, overall. No problems, the battery lasts much longer than with the stock ROM.
But I also find that these features are missing, especially the floating windows.
I'd like to find a way to get this feature on AOSP !

The latest gcam from Urnyx05 has all lens working plus 4k 60fps on the wide angle lens.

The drm info for the widevine l1 is stored in persist partition. If you lose the content of this partition, which is unique to each motherboard, you lose widevine l1.
So, my recommendation is to back it up before playing around with roms because some roms mess it up.
So, if the drm info is still intact in that persist partition, xiaomi allows you to hace widevine l1 even after unlock the bootloader. And using magisk with hide option, you should be good to go.
I just tried new OneOS from Spanish dev team. It seems this ROM is very perspective! Supports many languages including English.
Unfortunately, currently I got wiped TWRP after flashing this ROM, and when I tried to flash TWRP again, then ROM started bootlooping. The only way to fix is to flash China Stock ROM using MiFlashPro utility and then start over with installing TWRP and Root, etc.
But ROM itself works fine! With Magisk Canary and PropsConfig module configured for RedmiK30Pro I have passed SafetyNet.
It's bad that some devs don't show their work here on XDA and support for this phone is so fragmented over the internet, eg TWRP Pitchblack Recovery 3.0.0-UNOFFICIAL on 4PDA and ROM OneOS

I've been playing with Urnyx05 Gcam the camera works well, except the 64 megapixel camera doesn't seem to work. Otherwise it's pretty good. ANX Camera is also great, but found the pop up camera doesn't work for photos, but works for video and the wide angle doesn't work. So far I've just been using both cameras as between them everything works, but would be great if could get one app that works correctly with all the cameras.
I'm a fan of LineageOS, but I like changing the battery status bar and force back button kill app. CrDroid and a few ROMs based on LineageOS are pretty similar with a few addons. So I've been trying CrDroid and it works great. I've never used floating windows in MIUI and much prefer an open source OS.
I had MicroG working perfect on MIUI with the Play Store, but having issues getting it to work correctly on CrDroid. For privacy and better battery I'd definitely recommend looking at MicroG, though adds another layer of complexity.

I feel you Bro. We can't have it all but we have one hell of a start. If the stock camera app gets ported to lineage based roms that will be a huge accomplishment(8k) even though gcam has its advantages. I'm sure we'll (community) will find a work around for MicroG.

it's funny how everyone here claims that custom roms have better battery than stock, but for me, stock give me two days and a half, sometimes three days in a row... so, i hard to believe that claim

I know that the OnePlus 1 (originally) came with Cyanogenmod but then Cyanogenmod shut down, branching into LineageOS and OnePlus made OxygenOS. However, I don't know which features LineageOS has that OxygenOS doesn't and what LineageOS doesn't have that OxygenOS has. I'm not sure if I should switch from OxygenOS to LineageOS. Could anyone tell me the pros and cons of each and their recommendation?

I prefer the customisation and feel of aosp, it's just my preference, there is no best rom or OS, the problem for me and many more with aosp and Los is the inability to use the camera as expected.
Fusion is probably the best rom as in non OOS but has the camera from it which works nearly perfect
Your best bet is to use stock OOS long enough to get a good feel for it then make a nandroid backup and flash Lineage. That way you can decide for yourself and it just takes a few minutes to go back to OOS if you decide you like it better than Lineage. I've tried a number of custom ROMs but haven't found one I liked better than OOS + Blu Spark yet. A lot of people like Pure Fusion but I couldn't get even a decent phone signal with that ROM. It seems to be incompatible with my phone carrier.
How is the OOS-camera-app with AOSP-roms?
I see there is magisk-modules for custom roms you can flash via TWRP.
Is the the same quality compere to OOS?

Imho, nothing compares to oos stock camera, not even the modified Google camera. It's coming along but I was using it on lineage for a few days and felt the picture quality was definitely lacking.
As for the OP, the best advice has been given, play with OOS, tweak it to your liking and then back it up and go try it with lineage. I went back to OOS From lineage because lineage is still very new for our device and it has flaws that I didn't want to deal with on my daily driver. In time, I'm 99% certain I will jump to lineage because I think it's great; but for now on my op5 it's oos plus blu-spark.
(Plus I'm hoping @eng.stk will make a LOS kernel (don't kill me man lol))

Don't want to go OT, buty blu_spark custom is fully compatible with LOS ( I even merged in r36 the swap key keycode from LOS that was missing ).
LOS is where I usually test my custom stuff.

If you wanted the OOS camera, you could use an APK Extractor and back up the APK and install it after installing a custom ROM.

Feel free to use the search button on my thread.
I am a long time custom ROM flashoholic, and had custom ROMs on every phone I could.
OOS is the first stock OS that satisfies my needs for customization, features and the lack of bloat.
I recommend using stock with Magisk, as you pretty much have all the features from OOS and all the possibilities from a custom ROM.
The only thing lacking for me is the "long volume press skip track" feature, but I have that on my headphones (just not on the phone itself).
Benefit is that you still can receive updates (just reflash Magisk) and camera quality stays.
I cant really give any valid reason for switching to a custom OS besides dropped mainstream support, and I think that shouldnt happen for at least 2-3 more years. (In which time you will probably get a new phone )
In short: LOS is more up to date, and better battery life but slower app openings, and maybe more bugs (i didn't notice any yet)

Doesn't work quite like that, when you extract the camera and try to use it outside oos, it fails; unless someone has a find a way to do it.

No, you can make Apks that depend on device specific framework libraries. They'll only work if the libraries are there.
Now you can copy framework libraries, but in the OOS camera case, you also need modifications to the kernel and to Android to make it work.
In short, your ROM has to support it.
The only ROM I know that kinda support the OOS cam is PureFusion. And even, the smile capture and a few other minor things still do not work.

As mentioned, APKs may depend on specific libraries or frameworks. Some apps don't need specific libraries or frameworks. OOS Camera does. Try extracting the APK and install it on your Fire.

Hi all long time xda member since mytouch 4g days and have owned and modded everything Samsung phone since the note 2. So now moving along, I'm now a A2017u owner with bad boys Rom. Actually I've been stuck on it since it was released. I wanna download los but I'm worried about losing the Dolby Atmos, Dac and the ability to use the the internet while on a call. What los rom can I download that. Can help me keep that? I know about Devine beats but is it really as good? Also I just can't do the whole magisk thing. It just doesn't work for me. Just going I can flash files and get a nice stock system while preserving the perfect audio going. Also I have the phone working with Verizon and world like to know how to make calls and surf the net at the same time.
Thanks for all.
We're in April, I hope the Oreo Update will fully benefit the potential of our DACs.

Basically every custom ROM has that xd. Nougat and Oreo. I don't get why you say you can't get Magisk going? Have you tried a custom ROM at least?
Basically you have to format data, flash bootloader and modem (or bootstack), flash the ROM, Gapps, Magisk. Once you have all that installed just reboot and install the Dolby Atmos magisk module, or if you are on Oreo there's a flashable zip with the newest Atmos zip.
Though I don't know why you would use Atmos on headphones? The real deal is Viper4Android since it doesn't add a crapton of noise...

of course the fp sensor does. You know, there's a list of broken stuff on every ROM thread, you don't need us to figure what thing works and what doesn't. And for theming a ROM you can use Substratum, though AEX 5.3 (the Oreo one) has a theme engine that themes the UI (not apps)

Once you go microG you never go back
Im sorry if this is off topic. I've had my opo since 2015, never rooted or installed custom roms.
I've lately been wanting some change, and lineage with microG seems like a great place to start my custom rom journey.
My only worry is that many tutorials for rooting/install roms seems slight dated or focused on windows environments, I am on linux.
Can i safely follow tutorials from 2014/15 or has there been many changes that i should be aware of when rooting and installing lineage with microG?

Hi
The way to do it is still the same.
Just be sure to use latest files (twrp 3.2.1.0 or newer and latest magisk for root).
Using linux seemed to me even easier.
The basic steps are: have adb installed on linux pc, then unlock bootloader, then install twrp.
In twrp make a backup and then flash roms and other stuff.
But as you said there are many guides how to do. Just search for how to unlock bootloader and install twrp using linux.

You can either use DavDroid (CardDAV) (search google on how to configure it to work with Google) or you can use Google's own proprietary sync mechanism which you can install through flashing Nanodroid (find it on XDA).

This ROM is as good as a ROM can get. Everything just works, also the difficult-to-do-and-often-ignored parts like encryption. I don't even remember when 60FPS high speed recording actually worked on Oneplus one (yes, its included in majority of ROMs out there, but doesn't actually record in 60FPS but rather 30FPS). But even that works!
In addition, there's no random reboots, SELINUX is enforcing, security patches are up to date and battery lasts for 48h with moderate use. And microg is just truly wonderful piece of software.
This ROM is a wonderful piece of genuine professionalism that is truly hard to find.

You need to login to official play store with your own account, and you can download previously purchased paid apps, and you can purchase paid apps you want.
With yalp store, i can login with my own account and download previously purchased paid apps, but I can't use that apps because some apps want to check license, something that yalp store can't do.

I even have separate long boot password, and short screen lock pin. Since google disabled raw encryption commands in Pie, you no longer cannot do it easily.

I don't have any complains regarding performance.
Guys please suggest me a good bugless ROM be it Oreo or Pie.
I'm in stock ROM and I want more features. My requirements are
Good battery
Good performance
Edge gestures
Good Volte
Call quality
Good speaker output
No heating while charging and using.
Liquid Remix with Darkberry Kernel...
I don't think edge gestures work in any of the pie roms
Prefer Stock
Then wait ASUS release the Pie .
Maybe a years from now. Lol
Your requirements seems to lean more on the device usage actually and those are basic features that work best on stock rom.

There is no such thing as bugless! ?
As per your requirements it's best to stay on stock, root it & play around with magisk & if that seems insufficient then install Xposed Framework.
Xposed has some modules which you can check it out if you want more features.
GravityBox is the main one of course + xposed edge gestures (mindblowing)!
Disclaimer - Xposed trips safetynet, not that i care.
Performance and battery is great for me.
So, all your stuff covered expect the last one, haven't faced that issue.
All in OREO?

GravityBox is the main one of course + xposed edge gestures (mindblowing)!
Disclaimer - Xposed trips safetynet, not that i care.
Performance and battery is great for me.
So, all your stuff covered expect the last one, haven't faced that issue.
All in OREO?

If u want all those features i think stock ROM would be best for u. However, if u want android pie then go for pixel experience rom or pixys os. They are the cleanest android pie roms out there.

Good battery - Battery idle drain & performance is based on Kernel, not on a custom rom.
Good performance - Whatever rom you use, performance is same. Bcaz it depends on the Processor speed in GHz.
Edge gestures, VoLTE - These are some of the reasons you are using a custom rom.
Call Quality - It's totally based on Cellular network & it's signal strength.
Speaker Output - By default, it's based on hardware, & speaker output from max pro m1 is satisfactory. To increase volume change RX values from 84 to somewhere 89 under mixer_paths.xml
I'm thinking of trying Aex pie rom
Is it any better than liquid remix or I'll be just wasting my data?

Busybox from magisk right? D/L the module, flash from magisk and reboot.
Also xposed from magisk rep which is systemless?
You gotta make sure now that whichever xposed framework you flashed is completely uninstalled.
For actual xposed use it's uninstaller.zip or for unity flash the module again from twrp.
Take backup, etc, and flash the systemless xposed module from twrp, wipe the cache and dalvik. Reboot.
Use the installer provided by our magisk prodigy from the repo which is for systemless xposed.
SDK V27 - 90.2 beta 3 (for framework).

I've to disagree with you on many things. First of all, all ROMs don't have same in call volume. Second, speaker output can vary in ROMs, performance can also differ

Whatever bro, it's truth. If possible, try out all the roms starting from lineage os, liquid remix os, crdroid, havoc os, etc. You'll notice there's no difference except all roms use their own custom system image & system apps.

Huh??!!
We all have 2 ears, one nose, one heart, 2 kidneys and 1 d*** but I do notice a lot of difference among them.
Don't simplify something too much just because you can't comprehend it and stop professing your own version of truth, BRO! ?
I am using havic os pie with azure kernel... I get 12+ hrs of SOT easily with 4g always on. The SOT will be even better if you use wifi.
Its got a load of customisations availablei
It has edge gestures.
I play pubg on it without any noticeable lag.
I think this is a great rom.
Also i use pixys os with stock kernel before this, that was a good rom too but it lacked customisations thats why i changed to havoc.
This is no real fault of a particular rom but more every custom rom I've tried on the 6t. I can not find a camera that fully works. I always end up back on OOS. I'm self employed and do my own marketing, I take photos and videos of projects before, during and after completion and while I've tried various cameras, some work better, some not, sadly after some time they all either stop working, videos lag, or simply the camera stops connecting randomly. I say all the above, not as criticism but for advice from other users. Do you use a camera that fully works, is stable and has decent quality? If so, name it please. Thanks
I have been using the gcam that is included with the XXxNoLimits Magisk module for some time and had no problems.
I am rooted, using the Omega kernel, OOS 9.0.17, and xXx. There is also a thread on xda for the latest gcam port.
I believe you can also download the gcam google app from the play store. I am as un googled as I can be so I am not 100%on this one.
I was planning on installing Lineage, but now that I have this set up with the debloating and tweaks for the battery PLUS the gcam( best I have found ) I am a happy camper.
Hope there is something here that might help.

Thanks for the reply. I am on OOS Q at the moment and have debloated it using the magisk module and you are correct, it's a lot better but I'm after more pure Android ROMs. I've tried about every version of gcam I've found with different configs based off others recommendation but they always end up not working eventually.
