As you can see in the image, it says to enter a valid provider url. I don't what should I enter. I want to use Cloudflare DNS 1.1.1.2 which blocks malwares.
I tried '1dot1dot1dot1.cloudflare-dns.com' and it didn't work. Need help.

You need to locate the following file and add your username and password -
/system/etc/ppp/peers/pppd-ril.options
Code:
usepeerdns
connect-delay 1000
# Don't remove the user/password lines. They are required to make PPPD authenticate itself with

There are several methods to access this, rootexplorer, adb shell, sshd, etc and are covered in other parts of the forums.
You are aswsome for finding this.....Like I said in IRC, never would have thought to look in a settings file deep in the system to fix a data issue (should have been updated from APNs or something as I have never had this problem on any other android device)
how come they made this file??
is there a way to bypass the file? because my provider is using different usernames and passwords for each APN (they have several..)
The N7 just got delivered. I immediately and successfully unlocked and rooted, thanks to Wugs (thanks Wugs!). Now I need to figure out how to connect to my VPN provider who uses OpenVPN and .ovpn config files. There are a few apps in the store, and I'm not sure which ones to install, or how to configure.
Thanks,
RF
I think Android supports VPN's (or at least it does in ICS) without the need of any 3rd-party apps, but then again I don't think I ever messed with OpenVPN.
If it means anything, I was able to connect to my own VPN I made with Windows 7 from ICS.
Install both OpenVPN apps from F. Schäuffelhut.
One is the binary, the other checks your setup and manages your tunnels.
You will also need busybox.
just tested all this today.

If a standard port etc, yes, this should just work.

If not on a standard port (like I have set up, so I can OpenVPN out of my work wifi), or an oddball configuration, it works out of the box, rooted of course. I was afraid of the TUN module/config but it was compiled in. Thanks Google
There is also another openvpn by schwabe that doesn't require you to install any binaries. You just need to copy the authentication cert files, edit the .ovpn file to include the correct cert files and the server and import the profile. If you're having trouble, i can write a small tutorial on how to do so. There are also other tutorials on how you can do it if you Google openvpn on Android tutorials/guides.

I used the OpenVPN apps from F. Schauffelhut. I copied the config files from my Windows PC setup, and edited the ovpn file. However I don't know how to store the login credentials as encrypted. The OpenVPN Settings from F.S. doesn't query the user for id/pw. It just fails. So I added "auth-user-pass pwd_file" entry into the ovpn file, but it's in plaintext.
I don't want to have to type the login each time, but I do want it encrypted. Can anyone provide some info here? I'm a noob with OpenVPN. TIA.
Edit: It is working right now, just that the login info is unencrypted.
BTW, here is my ovpn file:
Code:
client
dev tun
proto tcp
remote xxxxxxxxxxx ###
resolv-retry infinite
nobind
persist-key
persist-tun
ca ca.crt
cert client.crt
key client.key
cipher BF-CBC
keysize 512
comp-lzo
verb 4
mute 5
tun-mtu 1500
mssfix 1450
auth-user-pass pwd_file
reneg-sec 0
route-method exe
route-delay 1 10
route-metric 512
route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0
I believe you can encrypt the .cert files that are used by adding them to the credentials manager in settings-security. I haven't tried it so i can't confirm. Alternatively you could try an app that encrypts that folder so that it needs to be decrypted before use.

Thanks for the replies.
I went a different route, and it worked flawlessly: I made a folder in the N7 main directory (same place as Alarms, Music, etc..) called OpenVPN. Inside that, I placed a folder from my PC OpenVPN/config folder, that contained my ,ovpn file and the .crt files, etc. I then installed OpenVPN For Android from Arne Schwabe. Launching that app, and going into the 'Precious VPNs' option, allowed me to 'Import'. I navigated to the OpenVPN folder, and then the folder containing the VPN files. Highlighting the *.ovpn file and then hitting 'Select' has the app 'do it's thing'. When done, you hit finish/complete/done (forget what it was), and the VPN connection shows up in the list. Activating it and browsing to an IP check website, showed my VPN provider's exit IP. It was all easier than it looks by typing it.

PS. I also installed Orbot, and since I'm rooted, the 'Transparently Proxy All Applications' option. After also checking the option to use the N7's default IP Tables (this is not the default, the app tries to use it's built in binaries and it will fail on the N7) everything connected through Tor as well...so I have two options for browsing - VPN or Tor.
I love this device (rooted) !
Glad it worked out however remember that the app is also storing info in a file that can only be read by the app but it is still in plain text. The author of the app describes it in detail in the faq section. However it is much better than having to keep the files available in plain text at all times.

If tethering is still working for you then you don't have to perform these steps.
I am not reponsible for any damages to your phone if you perform these steps, it's your choice, backup first.

You must be rooted and on Android 4.4.2 with T-Mobile for this to apply for you. This method worked on my Moto X, but may not work on other devices and software versions.
An explanation of how this works and why it's needed:
T-Mobile has had a second APN (Access Point Name) built into Android 4.4.2 called "DUN" and it is meant to be used only when tethering. It's a way for T-Mobile to check and see if you are using your phone, or if another device is using your connection. If it detects another device, it will only load up a webpage on that device that asks you to buy a Tethering option or switch to a Simple Choice plan that includes tethering. What we will be doing is removing the need for built in Wifi tethering to use or create a DUN APN, and then removing the DUN apn for T-Mobile.
Let's begin.
1. Be rooted. If you have an unlocked bootloader, install CWM or TWRP and then flash Superuser.zip or SuperSU.zip in your recovery of choice. If you have a locked bootloader and you're on 4.4.2, you're currently out of luck. You have to unlock.
2. Open SQLite Editor, grant root for it, then under the APPS list, scroll down and tap on "Settings Storage".
3. It will search for databases and find "settings.db", tap on it.
4. While in "settings.db", select "global" from the list.
5. You will see a table with "id, name and value" columns. Tap on the + sign on the top right to add a new entry.
In the name field, name it: tether_dun_required
In the value field, write the number zero: 0
Tap on Save to save the entry, then exit the app.
6. Go to your APN settings (Settings, More > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names) and you'll notice two APN's there. One labeled "DUN" and one labeled "fast.t-mobile.com." Click on the name of "DUN" and you'll see all of its settings. Hit the menu key in the top right, and choose Delete APN.
7. The "fast.t-mobile.com" APN should be set to IPv4 by default on the Moto X, but on other devices it may be set to IPv6. You need to change this to make tethering work if it is IPv6.
8. Reboot and enjoy!
Your traffic will still be monitored for tethering! You should be using a VPN, proxy, User Agent Switcher, etc. to hide your tethering more effectively.
Hi,
i just wanted to write a short webview based app to view a password-protected webpage, so it is not accessable for everyone (without user/pw) from a usual browser. i use android-studio.
In a Browser i access the website by typing it's url and enter username and password in the upcoming pop-up window or by including the username/password into the url like:
<username>:<passwort @subdomain domain tld / folder /
when i used a WebView element trying to load an unprotected website it works fine in emulator and on the real device i've tested it on, but when i try to load a website that requires authetification it works fine on the emulator but doesn't work on my real devices.
My Samsung GT-i9305 shows me the "401 Authorization Required" page i get when i cancel the pop-up.
Code:
//inside onCreate
WebView aWebView = (WebView) findViewById(R.id.webview);
aWebView.loadUrl("http : // username : passwort @ subdomain . domain . tld / folder /"); // i hardcoded the username and pw in the url
i see, it doesn't authenticate using the user/pw-.information from the url.
how can i tell the webview to authenticate with given user/password
but i can't find an other way to tell the webview not to ignore the authentication.
i read to use the "onReceivedHttpAuthRequest (WebView view, HttpAuthHandler handler, String host, String realm)"
but don't know how to get a httpauthhandler that tells the webview to give prestored usernames.
am i stupid?
the developerpages from google can't really help me
has anyone done this before and found a working solution?

[TRICK] How to download from Mega website**Especially for those who doesn't have Admin privileges**
Hi All,
If you have admin privileges you can manually change DNS Server number and access Mega. But unfortunately many may not have Admin rights to modify Network Settings. This guide/trick will provide you necessary tips to download from otherwise unavailable Mega site.
Usually, If you click on download link which is hosted on Mega (Many countries block it!) your browser will greet you with the message "The webpage unavailable" (See first image).
Let's solve this without editing network settings (DNS/VPN etc.).
Requirements:-
1. You need Chrome webbrowser for this. Install Chrome from here.
2. Now Open Chrome--> Goto Chrome Store--> Search for Unlimied Free VPN - Hola & Install this extention app. (Link Here)
Now the trick begins:-
1. Open Chrome and click on the download link. Still you will get the Page not available message. Now You will see some thing like this https://mega.co.nz/#!zBBESCxY!ulXdnKB9_2bvPyRr3aH7WNOP6orm_zkLgJow_1fKK8s in your address bar. (1st Image)
2. Select & Cut from back slash [ / ] after mega.co.nz to the end (like this example:- /#!zBBESCxY!ulXdnKB9_2bvPyRr3aH7WNOP6orm_zkLgJow_1fKK8s)
( Tip:- Use Ctrl+X). (2nd Image)
3. The address bar should have only this https://mega.co.nz (3rd Image)
4. Now Click on Hola extention and Select US or New Zealand or UK server.
(Note:- You may have to try selecting / changing servers few times, be patient, don't give up as it really works) See the Magic,
The mega site opens up.
5. Now paste the actual file address (which you cut in step no. 4) at the end of opened mega web page address and Press Enter. (4th Image)
6. Your download will be ready, now download the file. (See last/5th image)
Happy downloading.

How to open mega in android
You have to use Mega App... Install it from Play Store.
Never use Hola. They don't have their own servers ! They exchange our internet for others ! Eg. If you are using a USA VPN, then your IP will used by someone else at the same time !
