Android 10 custom kernels - Xiaomi Redmi 3s Questions & Answers

Why nobody is developing and releasing custom kernels for android 10 on land ?
Upto Pie, there were a couple of kernels running like chimera.

[Q] Now Android MM is out for while, anybody working on any new ROMS?

Hey guys was just wondering if there any developers who are working on some new ROMS for our MXP as it seems very quiet in the development sections of the forums, couple of variations of stock rom and that's pretty much it.
Was expecting for development to pick up after the MM but its been VERY quiet.
Not a complaint just wondering if there are things going on behind the curtains like development being done or some CM13 or anything along those lines.

Having MM OTA out is not enough.
Not much can be done until Motorola will release the kernel source

Any idea if its going to get released and if yes then when ?
and out of self interest what does the kernel source enable developers to do ?

It's totally depended on Motorola.
The source enable developers to release AOSP roms and custom kernels.

Has Motorola been known to release kernel sources before for previous flagships ?
Would love for them to release the binaries and device tree for AOSP builds...

They are required to release any changes to the kernel they have made due to the GPL license that the linux kernel is protected by. so its not a matter of if but when.
MM and now kernel source released, and still, slow as hell. Sucks. I thought this phone would be one of the most active in development, was i wrong.

I'm on retail Asia variant which leaves me with 1 rom. And I can't even get mm for my variant let alone custom roms.
What happened to this phone?

AOSP/CM12 ROM FOR KENZO(REQUEST To DEVS)

hi guys
as we all know we don't have proper sources for android 6 from Xiaomi and we all are facing some issues with all the custom ROMs and kernels based on these sources. As of now 5.1 sources Are stable and also support VOLTE which a lot of us are using now a days so KINDLY REQUEST DEVS to make at least one good AOSP (RECOMMENDED) (am using one from @MrColdbird) as it has an awesom life of battery and is too smooth and fast with at least one kernel to have control on our device. it will be of so much use for all of us until we get all correct sources from Xiaomi for MM.
see the battery life of this.. i used mm based ROMs and kernels but all gave 5mins on screen time with 4g data but aosp 5.1 gave on average 10MINS SOT WITH 4G DATA ON. screenshots of both sot and idle battery backup attached from betterbatterystats.
any custom ROM CM/RR/CRDROID/DU etc based on 5.1 will b awesome I think

+1 For this! Though it seems Lollipop is not popular among the devs here..
@op what bugs have you encountered with the AOSP rom you're using? Also, have you tried any of the custom kernels available? I think some of them are compatible :fingers-crossed:

where as stock kernel rocks
the main reason to ask for new ROM based on 5.1 is that has become too old and its not that customizable plus no kernels support.
the devs are behind 6.0 as its upstream they are moving with stream

Kernel for nougat roms,please !

Any developer who could make a kernel for nougat roms would be awesome ,we would all be thankful :fingers-crossed:

Well, that's not really a reason to not make other kernels.
E.g.: take a look at the famous Google Nexus 5 development section. I can see 6 kernels just on the first page. On second page there are another 4 kernels.
Kernels are different and that also depends on the developer, how much knowledge he has and what's the purpose of his kernel.
Franco.Kernel (by franciscofranco) and ElementalX kernel (by flar2) are two of the most famous kernels. Those two devs are famous devs with high knowledge who gained trust and respect from people.
In the Google Nexus 5 section, Franco.Kernel thread has not less than 7,4 millions views and ElementalX 4,6 millions. I believe there might be people who even buy a phone just because it got Franco or flar2 as devs.
On other hand, if devs would collaborate, they would only make awesomeness.

Then you have to wait, because I saw that the H variant developer Vince is experimenting the cpu oc to 1.6Ghz and gpu oc to 650Mhz, if it will satisfy him he will include it in his kernel. But all this is for H variant I don't know if he will give support for other variants...maybe SoUnd001 will work with him or he's already working and he will release it:good:

Future of OP3T

What is the future of OP3T concerning roms? I know One Plus will not provide support after the O update, so well have to get our taste from custom roms. Why are there so many resurrection ROMs? Does anyone still use all those features anyhow? I can't tell you the last time i heavily modified my rom. I typically stay on PA, FreedomOS, or stock rooted.
Does anyone know where I can find some AOSP kernels?

no one said O is end of the line for 3/3T, it's the end of beta, they cant keep 2 beta's
that's said, even if that's true, there will be plenty of O custom roms, and probably P when it's released...
AOSP kernel, hmm, ther was one i don't remember it's name i'm not sure if it's still maintained, look for it on the cross devices section, it was the kernel for the OSIP rom.

Personally I think it's crap that this phone won't get any software updates after Oreo. Phone should have shipped with 7.0 out the box. This will definitely be my last OnePlus

There will be no Android P without the source code which One Plus won't release because theyre stopping after Oreo. Oreo based Roms will be the final Android version.

I'm sure there will be custom roms after Oreo (not OOS based tho ofc), same as Oneplus 2 have nougat as custom roms.

Actually I don't know how that goes, since I know nothing about developing ROMs, but since there is new OS versions for devices which didn't get them officially, there must be some way. Some functions propably not gonna work similarly, depends on device tho (Samsung Note 4 example.. custom ROMs were missing all "S pen" -stuff and camera quality was horrible. All camera framework stuff were binded to Touchwiz itself), but atleast our Oneplus 3T is quite simple device and camera is so far working "good enough" even on custom ROMs.

The source code used for custom roms is based on aosp(google)not on the one released by oneplus. Basically the one on pixel and nexus devices and mixed up with oneplus drivers( blobs actually)..
So no. Custom roms will continue till developers stop making builds.years after oneplus droping support
This phone is good for the next year at least. People will still have it since it's like the budget pixel

even OPO has 7.1.2 custom roms, why you need to worry ?

Not really. The code oneplus release, the blobs and the devices trees can help to improve custom ROMs, but custom ROMs won't disapear if we doesn't have the source.
Just look at the Xperia SP for example. Official android version, 4.3. Android version thanks to custom ROMs, Oreo.
The code the manufacturer release is highly important at launch, to have a base to work on to port a custom ROM. On android P developers will take the android O tree and start to update it to support the code changes of P, without the need of OP.

After having over 40 flagship phones and an XL since the Droid 1 it's worth it. I won't waste the time to go into all of the reasons though. I was being a little modest when I said 40

And the last official update the htc one s got was jellybean.

Just looking for a recomendation in Custom Roms

I am looking for a recomendation in custom roms, precisely needing a slim with at least basic customizations like data off while the screen is off.
I've seen about tipsy-tesla-validus roms but never tried them, are they stable?
I've been using AICP a long time but I hear any suggestions.

Yeah ground zero roms are stable and offer plenty of customizations. Try out tipsy
Any Ground Zero ROM is usually solid... or consider Dirty Unicorns...
Unless you are on stock Nougat, because at this time there are no ROMs that work with stock Nougat, you must be on Marshmallow radios/firmware for them to work until the new binaries and kernel source are imported into them.
