Verizon recently released nationwide 5g!! I called Verizon to check to see if the 8pro was compatible. They said yes. They also said an update would be coming. Has anyone on Verizon received a carrier update, or now picking up the 5g signal?

That's good news. I was thinking it's compatible with Verizon's nationwide 5g. I have a couple unlocked phones I'm waiting for updates on. I love this phone so I'll be able to keep it..

I'd imagine the update needs to come from OnePlus. Do you have a Verizon 5g sim card? That's needed as well.

I just looked on Verizon's site. They have a list of phone compatible for Nationwide 5G. 8 pro isn't on the list. I'm not sure if whomever you spoke to gave you the correct info. It also said weeks to a couple months for updates for compatible 5g devices.
I'm on my unlocked note 20 ultra and joined the beta ui 3.0 and now it can connect to Verizon's 5g. I contacted oneplus through Twitter and they said ask Verizon. IDK.. pita
I've learned oneplus needs to release an update which should be coming sometime in November. This update should allow the oneplus 8 pro to utilize Verizon's nationwide 5g.
There's one aspect some of you may not know. Verizon know the 8 series phones are 5G capable . And a new sim doesn't seem to be required. It's all in your plan- you have to have a 5G eligible plan-
You can get access to 50 GB of 5G Nationwide / 4G LTE premium data per month. 5G access requires a 5G-capable device which you already have Plus 720p HD streaming when you activate it in your plan settings. In times of congestion, your data may be temporarily slower than other traffic after exceeding 50 GB/mo/line.

Also, so I asked the chat agent to find me a plan closest to mine. At the moment I'm paying $120 incl tax and fees a month for 2 phones w/ unlimited talk and text. This payment is low because all phones are paid off. The new plan with 5G will be another $50 a month. Not worth it. And you have to figure in the next few years after all the phones are 5G that's a another $50 you're stuck paying if you want 5G.

I'm sure it's coming, it's just a matter of when. Unfortunately, I sold my opo 8 pro. My unlocked Samsung note 20 Ultra has access to Verizon's Nationwide 5g ever since I installed Android 11 beta. So unlocked phones can get access to 5g. It just kills me that they take so long for something simple and important. I hope you get the update soon!

No, just root. I miss the phone just didn't want to take the chance with the 5g and sold it while the value is still there. That's why it's frustrating that Verizon or OnePlus can't give you an answer on something they should have info to share. Verizon's just first worried about their branded phones and OnePlus should be proactive and know when or if it's coming. I haven't checked their forum in a while so you might want to look there. It's very very active.
Soooo....seeing as how this thread has been dead for a year, I'm assuming the 8 Pro is still only 4G LTE capable with Verizon and it won't be getting an update to enable access to 5G? If I'm wrong, please let all of us know as we've been waiting!

So I'm not too thrilled about the 6 GB/64 GB version we're apparently getting in Canada, and am seriously considering getting an 8 GB/128 GB version on eBay, but I'm concerned about it being a Taiwanese SKU/serial.
Does anyone have any experience or thoughts as to whether it would work in Canada, if updates would come properly, etc - or better still if I could just flash it to the NA version on arrival, etc.? Thanks!

I am also super interested in the ability get an 8 GB version working on Verizon. If someone knows for sure a flash would get the correct bands and it's not a hardware issue, that would be terrific.
Buying the 8/256GB RAM/storage version in Europe.
At the moment I am only able to find this phone available for purchase in Sweden with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Does anyone know if a version with the highest specs will be available in the future? Why aren't the phone available with all options in every country? Where can I go to get a version with better specs?

From my testing, the unlocked version will pick up Verizon LTE bands but calls fail since there is no VoLTE option on the phone. Did not pick up any of their 3G signals, and their system would not accept my IMEI as a compatible device. So it may work if you can convince Verizon to add the phone to their system, which is unlikely since they already have their own version.
FWIW I also tried it with a Sprint SIM, but got no service whatsoever and their system would not accept the IMEI. Thew in a Cricket/AT&T SIM and the phone worked as expected.

I miss the high score I've built up in Klondike for the last 7 years and I miss all the notes I had in my Memo app and I definitely miss having Kernel options, because I'm not impressed with battery life at this point, but yeah, it's a beast. Which LTE Bands are you getting?
I'm on T-Mobile,seems we only have Band 2 support on the WW unlocked 8GB/128 GB Model.
I've already initiated a return w/the e-Bay seller,more than likely,it's going back tomorrow.
I'd been OK with Bands 2 & 4,which are listed here:

The fact that they let this .pdf out & it's not even accurate speaks volumes for North American support:Tone-Deaf would be a compliment...............

I was able to get service on 4 and 13 for Verizon, and 2 and 12 for Cricket/AT&T. It may support more, but I'm not aware of any apps that will let me scan for service on all bands. LTE Discovery mentioned a "Potential eCSFB issue" with the Verizon SIM which is likely because there was no CDMA support.
Fun fact... apparently the phone supports XLTE with Verizon, which led to a rather depressing speed test compared to my service with Cricket.

THX!,just wanted to make sure we were talking about the same model phone.
I'm gonna give it one more day,get around town & see if the connectivity is OK.
If spotty (w/Band 2 only) ,I'm sending it back,or,selling it on Swappa.
Outside of sparse LTE Band support,it's a nice phone,I really don't wanna part w/it so soon after getting it.
Haven't tried out the AR/VR Capabilities yet, but,I do like the display & the speaker quality/loudness.
TBH,I'm covered in WI-FI Most of the time, but,I did expect better LTE Band support nevertheless, especially for a DualSIM/Unlocked phone.
The fact that it's being sold on Amazon as-is seems to be Asus shooting themselves in the foot, certainly there'll be quite a few returns, once people find out connectivity is less than ideal for an unlocked phone, one that is marketed to the US/North America.
Update on mine, battery life is getting better now as the phone settles in. NOT impressed with Data though. I was in the country yesterday, my ASUS Zenpad had 2 bars of 4G and the Zenfone was in roam. Everything else is great, and living without root is bearable, I guess. Fortunately, my 7 year high score on Klondike is an X-Box Live/Google Play game and the score were carried over from the X Box cloud. I know that sounds silly but 7 years over multiple devices is a long time to build up a high score and was a major stress point going to a locked down device

I watched the unboxing video by Tmobile and see that it seems to have some installed TMobile apps. Wonder if we get the TMobile version if it will be possible to flash it back to a stock OP rom instead. TMobile has a pretty good deal on it tbh.
Can we unlock it's Bootloader?
I would be yes, TMobile is pretty good about things like this. I'm thinking of picking it up on the 1st through TMobile and if they've pulled something funny, I can always just return it.
From what I've picked up so far, the T-Mo version will have one SIM instead of dual SIM and you won't be able to unlock the bootloader until the device is fully paid for. Since I don't have a device to trade in, it is easy for me to just order from OnePlus. If I had an eligible phone though, it would be a harder decision.
Where did you pick this up from? I do have a device to trade in, $300 for this phone seems like a steal imo considering the trade-in. And honestly the T-Mobile bloat is pretty minimal in my experience. I've got it all uninstalled on my S8+, can't imagine I couldn't do the same on the OP6T.
I'm more concerned w/if I'd be able to get into Google SW beta's w/it like you could w/the OP6.
So, basically, this means that if you're a T-Mo customer and want an unlocked bootloader, you can't take advantage of this trade-in promo at all since it's paid out in bill credits over the 24 month finance period and the bootloader won't be unlockable until the end of those 2 years. That's unfortunate / seems to needlessly spite a meaningful segment of their target audience.
I haven't heard that about the bootloader and payment plan, any source? I have read that the phone will be carrier locked until it's payed off, but that's totally different from the bootloader, and pretty par for the course. My current Z2 Force is still on a payment plan, but I unlocked the bootloader the day I got it. Would really turn me off from this device if I can't unlock the bootloader.
The bootloader question has been answered.

XDA review:

The OnePlus 6T is a developer-friendly device. The bootloader is easy to unlock as always. You don’t need a bootloader unlock code from OnePlus. I personally can’t wait to root and install Magisk Modules once more. There’s one notable exception, however. The T-Mobile variant cannot be bootloader unlocked until you pay off the device.

Forget now where I saw that the T-Mo version is single SIM. I read a bunch of summary articles right after the embargo lifted.
6T for the USA is a gimped variant Single sim and locked bootloader till the device is paid off if you finance..
wtf lol, well that sucks tbh. Not that I've even unlocked a bootloader in years but I just want to be able to flash the stock rom not the Tmobile version.
Does anyone know if you can just pay off the phone immediately instead of paying monthly? Would you just pay the $280 or would you have to pay the full price and then get a $12.50 ($300/24) credit every month?
I've never bought a phone from a carrier so I have no idea how it works.
I'm one of the people that was about to go buy it from OnePlus directly, but the line is absolutely massive right now. The T-Mobile store in Times Square has it but this bootloader thing.. I don't know.
I will be paying outright for it, it's not a problem.. I'm just wondering if I can flash the same ROM's as the normal OnePlus version? Will they be two completely different phones? I don't think so, but I'm also not 100% sure. I don't mind T-Mobile bloat but I just want to be able to flash ROM's eventually.

According to this the T-Mobile version is a little different than the one directly from OnePlus.
https://www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6t-t-mobile-verizon-america-united-states/
Below is copied straight from the post.
"T-Mobile’s OnePlus 6T Model
The device you buy from T-Mobile isn’t 100% the same as the one you buy from OnePlus.com. The T-Mobile model is single-SIM while the unlocked version is dual-SIM compatible. Also, if you finance the device from T-Mobile, you will be unable to unlock the bootloader until you pay off the device. After you pay off the device, you are free to unlock the bootloader by using this form."

I'm headed to Times Square now let's see how bad the queues are.
I spoke to a OnePlus customer representative and she told me that the TMobile variant is the same model, but just has the dual SIM feature disabled. But they are the same model.
I don't know how accurate it is but I'm getting a 6T either way today. If the TMobile version ends up being different, I can return it within 30 days since I'm a business customer.
Thanks for the clarification, looks like I will order directly as well...
Is the 256GB model from oneplus have the new 600Mhz band?
yeah the wrinkle I see is that if you trade in and TMobile give you a credit over two years and you pay it off early does that count or does it take the full 2 years b/c of the credit
---------- Post added at 01:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:37 PM ----------
well RIP, the credits get applied each month to the balance so the amount due at the start will be the full price, not the "reduced" price.

This is from the OP spec page (https://www.oneplus.com/6t/specs) It shouldn't matter if you buy direct or from Tmobile.
FDD LTE: Band 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/18/ 19/20/25/26/28/29/30/32/66/71
TDD LTE: Band 34/38/39/40/41/46
TD-SCDMA: Band 34/39
UMTS(WCDMA): Band 1/2/4/5/8/9/19
CDMA: BC0/BC1
GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
I'm curious, I'm VERY new to the android world (My iPhone XS Max is still my primary)
I started with Androids about a year ago out of both boredom and a desire to learn.
So, I picked up a Pixel 2, then an LG V30, then S8, then S9, until I found the OnePlus 6. I was instantly hooked on the OnePlus 6, only replacing it with the 6T for the fingerprint reader in the screen. (I still have the 6 and 6T, all others were sold)
Anyway - Google Fi is intriguing to me, as I end up in areas were T-Mobile simply doesn't work. I would like the carrier switching, but I don't have a desire to switch back to a more expensive Pixel 3 XL, that really ONLY offers me the advantage of the carrier switching. Overall, I found the OnePlus 6/6T running Pie to be the cleanest experience.
So, my question - Does anyone feel that someone may be able to get the OnePlus phones to do the carrier switching? Or is this actually a hardware feature? I know nothing about how Fi works, so please excuse my ignorance.
Thank you in advance for any productive responses.
Alternatively, maybe I should just sell the 6 and 6T and pickup with 3XL?

Yes, I understand that. But the question was "Does anyone feel that someone may be able to get the OnePlus phones to do the carrier switching? Or is this actually a hardware feature?"
In other words, if the switching software based that may be able to be patched into the 6/6T, or is it a modem hardware feature exclusive to the official Fi devices?

I was hopping this would be fully functional as Fi announced support for non Fi devices, but apparently network swapping is not going to work or work so well. See the write up for the explanation.
https://www.xda-developers.com/project-fi-samsung-oneplus-lg-moto-iphones/
looks to me like the one plus 6 is on there, so, the T might work as well.
contact google directly, and ask them, thats the best way to find out
Ugh, is no one actually reading the question?
I'm not asking if the phone will work with Fi, I'm asking if the carrier switching is does in hardware or software, and if it is software do the devs here feel that they may be able to port the carrier switching to the other supported phones?
ok, now I understand..
asking questions here makes people assume you are discussing the 6T, NOT project fi/android in general..

Everything I read is that you would only be using T-Mobile. But since the 6t is dual SIM you can have dual service. I plan on getting a one plus 6t and using fi(TMO) for phone calls and texting and Unreal mobile (ATT) for Data. I am not sure if you can use VZW or Sprint for the second SIM but T-Mobile and AT&T is better in most cases than TMO and Sprint (no US Cellular in my area)

Alternatively you can get a pixel 2 or 3 and project fi esim and an alternate SIM. Although it's only one SIM at a time. That way though you do get essentially 3 carriers to choose from for service
So I found if I could dial a code in my dialer for fi, with the Google Fi app installed and activated, and get "cannot switch carrier", all I had to do was clear data on my app and the dialer switch would work
It's on their site. When you choose the 6t it shows what's supported and what's not. See attached image
To answer your question, yes it appears to be a hardware problem. It is either that we don't have the cdma radios needed for sprint or el goog is playing favorites and only wants certain hardware to work for carrier switching between tmobile and sprint. I am not familiar with the us cellular required radios but it is likely the same el goog restriction in this case as well. My vote is that el goog is trying to get people to buy the officially supported devices for full functionality, they are becoming more and more just like all other carriers now, huh?
Either way I think I am switching back to fi now that the 6t is at least officially compatible for use on tmobile and I am almost certain that wifi calling will work where service is poor. I am on tmobile now and wifi calling works just fine, I made a 30 minute wifi call last night and worked perfectly.
So it's a software problem. Google will not release the software as part of an update included with every android release or they won't work with the manufacturer to update the partition responsible

OnePlus 6T has full support for T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, and US Cellular. For Verizon and US Cellular, it also supports every CDMA Band.
For Sprint, it has every LTE Band and is missing one CDMA Band. Sprint doesn't allow unapproved devices on their network, and activation is tied to the device MEID unlike Verizon. There's no hardware reason why Fi can't allow at least LTE on both T-Mobile and Sprint. Perhaps the issue is that Sprint restricts them in some manner from using Fi on devices not in Sprint's database. Also Band 71 (T-Mobile) oddly doesn't work on Google Fi, so maybe it would lend credence to there being weird LTE Band restrictions for Fi's carrier agreements.
Well I am going back to tmobile, fi doesn't allow wifi calling and tmobile does so for me it is a no brainer. I still think that there is more going on here than just hardware issues but that's just my opinion. I mean, why is wifi calling not allowed on fi(tmobile) but it is on tmobile?
Not sure if you already switched back or if you are open to trying another service again, but i have been using Mint Mobile for a while now and love it. My monthly payment comes out to $24/Month with 5GB of data and an additional $10/1GB or $20/3GB.
Maybe https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cheekydevs.fiswitch can help for OP users?

Not sure if you already switched back or if you are open to trying another service again, but i have been using Mint Mobile for a while now and love it. My monthly payment comes out to $24/Month with 5GB of data and an additional $10/1GB or $20/3GB.

Does wifi-calling work with Mint Mobile??
Eta: Checked website and wifi calling is included, and 20 buck sale right now for 3 months 8gb a month...not bad for a test drive! I'm back on fi so I can pause it while I give it a go :

Awesome dude! It is definitely worth it considering you save at least $40 from any other major carrier. Only thing it doesn't have is the visual voicemail but i never use it anyway so it doesnt bother me.
Hope it is as good for you as it has been for me.

Visual voicemail is working for me with pixel experience ROM on project fi which shouldn't work on OnePlus 6T if I remember correctly.
You try that ROM yet with mint mobile?

I have an unlocked One Plus 8 pro and verizon and my area now has nationwide 5g. I don't see it though as it still shows LTE. I know this phone doesn't support the UW and we don't have that yet anyway. How can I tell if this is on 5G or is there a way to force it? I read they use band 71 and this phone does support that and my account is setup for 5G.
Anybody?
I guess beta 3 added what we needed for it cause now it shows this on dialer code *#*#4636#*#. Also in setting - sim we got this. So I'll say yeah we got it now. Please my data speed greatly improved over beta 2 with Verizon.
I can get to it via the dialer and manually select it but still no nationwide 5G on Verizon. One Plus says it's Verizon and Verizon says it's the device.
I tried to put it just on NR setting but no go for service were I live. But I'll be heading to the city area on Thursday and I'll try it again with speed tests to see. Verizon has been playing with the towers in my town, not sure if it's the 5G convertion or just plan work but like I said before, my speed test have gone up. I've been getting LTE+ on my phone when I wasn't getting it before the new beta update.

still no nationwide on VZW?
btw, nice username
Nope I am pretty sure all verizon has to do is allow the IMEI but their not that smart or they want you to buy their locked phones

I'm not in America but from what I've read, Verizon have tried to monopolize certain aspects of 5G over there, I think with the device that they provide vs any other.
Tbh though if you've got the international device then it should absolutely work, to prove its 5G capable, test it with a friend's 5G SIM, I'm sure it'll work.. Take some screen shots with it in action then you can point your finger firmly at Verizon and tell them it's on them..also you could try your SIM in another 5G capable phone then that's the last piece of the puzzle, you're phone's capable, their SIMs capable, what's the issue?
If it still doesn't provide 5G in yet another phone then it's their network mate.
If you didn't get your phone from them (international version) then swerve them altogether, I wouldn't pay for something that I wasn't getting, I'd want a nice big discount at the very least.
Did *#*#4636#*#* show the technology available?
Yes if I go to phone information NR is there and with a T-Mobile SIM it did get 5G. This is the unlocked version directly from One Plus.
Are you on the US variant or the International variant of the device?

I followed the instructions from someone on that link. Was able to get 5G.
I can not seem to find an answer anywhere. Do any of the 5G One Plus phones work on AT&T? I asked support on the oneplus website, but they kicked the ball to AT&T support, and AT&T support does not know either.
Anyone with real world experience?
Doesn't look like it for 5G at least in my search:

So, back to Verizon then?
Will it work on AT&T's 4G LTE? I do not have true 5G anywhere I travel. It is all that 5GE.
I read that LTE 4G worked https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/oneplus-8-pro-on-at-t.1235162/

I can switch to Verizon, just wanted to avoid that whole porting the number thing.
Actually, after searching, the OnePlus website shows they only support TMobile 5G. It shows AT&T and Verzion 5G not supported. Very confusing!
