I am trying to turn my shield tablet into basically an android TV box. I am trying to get Prime, Netflix, and Cinema apk to play on tablet and cast to Roku box. I used to be able to do it no problem. I do not know what changed. I am running Triodexe 15.1 Lineage. I am trying to cast to my Roku Ultra. I know your devices have to be on the same wireless network which they are. If it isn't the tablet doing it the only thing I can think of that possibly changed is ROM and now my wireless network just has one network name for both 2.4 and 5. This new router just sets up one network and prioritizes devices automatically for which network the device will use. As far as ROM I cannot remember which one I had it working on. Is anyone else able to confirm casting is working on this app?
Update - When using Lineage I could not get my PS4 to connect via Bluetooth. This was in addition to not being able to use the cast button. I ended up finding a solution to the casting problem. I downloaded Cast to TV-Xcast from the Google play store once it was setup I was able to detect my wifi connection and get it setup. I decided to experiment trying get the PS4 controller working. I seen Magisk actually has a module to add support for the PS4. I installed it and it did not work. Therefore, I decided to try another custom ROM. I am now running ASOP 6.7 with Pie Android 9. I still have the cast problem on it but my controller now pairs. So, it took some monkeying around but I solved those issues.
It seams like we have a couple good ROMs for this device which are close to working perfectly and then the people building them stop. I know Lineage had official builds of 14.1 and 15.1. Somewhere there has to be on o hei builds floated around that is stable. Then, the proper patches can be applied to it. I have tried looking into building images myself but that is over my head. I have a PC I just built that is more than fast enough. I have a Ryzen 7 3600, 32gb of RAM, and more than enough SSD space. I wish someone could connect to my PC and remotely build images, or they could remotely help setup my PC and show me how to do it. Then, I would keep the forum updated with new builds. If I could figure it out I would help out building images for other devices as well.

Hi,
I have run the latest few versions of the nightly build for 30/7 and 31/7, up to the latest, 10/8. I have carried out a full wipe of the system, and almost everything works much better than with the Lollipop stock ROM.
This issue I have is with the Cast Screen. It will connect to Miracast (An LG TV, Samsung TV and a Roku 3) and also to an EZCast dongle. However, All that is displayed is a black screen. Bothe systems say that the phone is connected, it is just that the screen is not mirrored.
I can display video via Bubble UPNP to the EZCast and TVs, but that is all.
Here's hoping that others have seen this and can help.
Regards, Richard
I am facing the same situation mine would connect for a second and then just disconnect- very happy with CM12.1 otherwise but cannot find a solution for it anywhere. If you do pls share
Use all cast https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast works perfectly for me on RR rom
I don't think that Allcast is an answer. Bubble UPNP already works, but that also will not allow for screen casting, which is what I wanted to do.
I got in on the $50 NP deals a little bit ago. It's been a neat little device aside from a couple issues. First, nothing can cast to it. Various phones, tablets try to connect then give up with a "Unable to connect to device" error. I have Chromecasts and they work flawlessly. I have done a factory reset or two without any improvement. Another oddity is that from my desktop computers, most of the time the device doesn't even get listed from the Chromecast icon (No cast devices found). One exception seems to be Youtube. There it shows the device, but still never sends anything to the Player.
The other issue I've had is that Netflix plays 1-5 seconds of a show before popping up it's aip-703. Netflix's web site gives a few suggestions, remove and readd account and the like, but that hasn't helped.
The only other thing I can think of is that the upgrade to Marshmallow might magically fix things, but I'm not holding out much hope. Any other suggestions?
I bet the casting problems you're getting are due to the NP's dodgy wi-fi connectivity. It's got compatibility issues with loads of different routers. I for example have a dual band router and since I moved the NP over to the router's 2.4GHz band, I have been able to cast without issues. And this sucks since I prefer it to connect to the 5GHz band for throughput and interference reasons. If you get any chance to try this with a different router you'll most likely see that those issues go away...
I was wondering that too, so I picked up an OTG cable and connected my Wii's ethernet adapter. Devices still aren't able to connect to the NP's casting receiver. So much for that...
In dealing with the Netflix thing, I decided to give their support a try. Surprisingly, they were very easy to deal with as far as tech support phone lines are. We tried a few things, but weren't able to settle on anything more than maybe it's the ISP's fault (Comcast). One interesting thing was they were able to pull up a demo movie that displays the current bitrate that you're getting. It was only pulling 1700kbps before getting the error. At other devices I get a similar rate, up to 3000kbps. I don't see how if Comcast were throttling Netflix connections, it should fail on any device rather than just this one (phones, tablets, computers, Chromecast, GoogleTV work just fine).
I've been able to cast on both NP I have without an issue. They were both running 5.1.1 and connected through 5Ghz wifi. I updated one to 6.0 and now I have the high brightness issue.
Both the casting and Netflix app got updated yesterday. Hopefully that will fix your problems
Casting no longer powers on TV via HDMI
Has anyone else experienced that casting no longer wakes up a powered-off TV?
Since I got my NP, starting to cast (with the TV off) would power on the TV and set it to the correct input (via HDMI commands sent from the Nexus Player). But, since yesterday (6.0 upgrade and new Cast Receiver - not sure which is to blame) this no longer happens. Is this now a configurable setting somewhere? I do observe that I can still use my TV remote's d-pad to control the Nexus Player, so believe HDMI-CEC is still active and configured correctly on the TV.
I loved this feature (prevented me from needing my TV remote!) and sad that it's now broken.
Hi,
I do own a SHIELD Pro 2015. The device is connected via Ethernet directly to the router. Chromecast-enabled apps on devices in the same network recognize the SHIELD, however when I try to cast to it nothing happens and the streaming immediately stops.
Things I have tried:
- Factory reset.
- Installing recovery images 6.0, 6.1 and 6.2
- Connecting to WiFi on the same router
- Connecting to a different route.r
- Installing LineageOS and try casting to it
- Casting from Android and iOS devices
It is never working, the only exception being Youtube. Casting youtube immediately loads Youtube. Casting Google Photos, Napster, the phone screen ect. does not work at all.
I dedicated Chromecast on the same network is working fine, as are Google Home devices and a chromecast enabled soundbar.
Bump - because I'm in the exact identical situation. Except my shield no longer shows up as a cast device when it did last week after a full factory restore. I'm currently rooted with SuperSU on 6.2.
CyanogenMod is no longer supported, and security patches might be outdated so do this at your own risk (I'm not responsible for what happens to your device)
I was cleaning my PC and found some old Nook HD+ files; the only worth mentioning is the last somewhat modern build that still worked with my HDTV HDMI Adapter. I'm going to assume you already know how to install a custom ROM based on the hundreds of tutorials on this forum, so I'm only going to share the links to the files necessary to have a working CM13 Marshmallow Nook HD+.
Yes, I understand that Lineage OS is far better because it supports casting to smart devices, and these older CM13 builds don't; however, some people might still have a spare TV that they only use from time to time where wireless is not an option, perhaps you travel and seem to find yourself in crappy hotels that require HDMI and have no Wi-Fi, etc.
It can be overwhelming at times to look through all the Nook HD+ threads, and find information on the almost extinct and forgotten HDMI support; so here you go.
The only issue with this build as far as I remember, was that at times the Wi-Fi connection would be lost after sleeping the Nook HD+ too long, thus needing to reboot the tablet to get the connection back; however, someone on this forum found what the problem was and made a Video Tutorial on how to fix the problem (I will provide a link to the video tutorial as well).
My settings weren't exactly like the person that made the video tutorial, but I have uploaded a screenshot of what fixed the problem for me; you have to set the priority of your Wi-Fi networks really low, so that the system can focus more on the Wi-Fi signal and won't loose connection too easily. Originally the priority of my network was really high, and that's why I was getting disconnected from my Wi-Fi quite often.

If the Nook's image looks upside-down/inverted on the TV when using HDMI, just tilt the Nook HD+ downward horizontally to rotate/invert the screen; thus making the image on the TV right-side-up.
Does anyone own any of the Mekotronics android TV products? I was contemplating getting one of these, but I ended up pulling the trigger and getting the r58x. I got the 16\64Gb version that runs well, but I decided to also install an NVME drive just because.
I ended up getting and installing one of these https://www.westerndigital.com/products/internal-drives/wd-blue-sn570-nvme-ssd#WDS500G3B0C.Once I installed in and boot the device, for some reason it doesn't see this storage. I tried it on my computer just to see if it recognizes it and it saw it right away so I'm not sure why this device doesn't see it.
Any thoughts?
Also on another note, I am running Android 12 on the device. I know android 12 doesn't come with the android tv remote services by default, but I'd like to install it so I can use my universal remote on my tv to control it. When I search that in the play store I get a ton of results for "android tv remote services". I'm not sure what I should be installing, and would it work for me to install it on Android 12?
Thanks!

Not sure about the remote, but from my understanding, all these device using the Rockchip 3588 & soc / Mali G610 chipsets are using a "dirty" version of Android TV OS. I have also learned that all of them I have tested do not support Dolby Vision and ATMOS.
Concerning the NVME, Mekotronics has told me this is still an issue. Theyare also still working on getting the UFEI boot working. I wish I could have of more help, hopefully someone else will ring in.
I hope someone can do more with the firmware, as these devices really have some great potential
Thanks for your response. I was playing on with this device for a bit and got most of my questions answered.
Regarding the remote service - this is from Google, but it doesn't seem to be compatible with the mekotronics Android 12 OS.
Regarding the NVME, I needed to format it from my computer first before installing it into the r58x device. After I did that the device recognized the storage no problem, however it can only be used as a secondary storage not primary. That's a big bummer, but since I have 64Gb to work with on the EMMC it's not too bad, and the speed is already really fast. When I contacted Mekotronics support they told me they are working on a way to get the nvme storage to work as a primary at some point.
The other big bummer is the lack of widevine L1, but I will try and play with kodi and see if that could be an option.
I had a followup question. Didn't want to create a new thread, so figured I would stem from this one.
I noticed that Radxa dev team has created an Android 12 img that supports NVME boot. I was curious to see if it would work on my r58x device, and unfortunately it doesn't.
I get a spinor error message, which I'm not quite sure what it means, but I imagine it's because their image file isn't compatible with the rk58x. With this in mind, is there a way to figure out what needs to be changed/updated on the r58x img similarly to what was done on the radxa one so I can get NVME bootable to Android 12 OS?
Have had mine for months and just keep running into road block after road block. I use mine as a plex server. ran the debian image on it for a bit but i cant get plex to see/mount usb nor NAS for some reason. I wish I could just find someone to configure it for me for $. Anyone know of such a service?
Unfortunately I don't know custom services like that, and it doesn't seem too many people have these devices.
I don't run plex on mine, but as far as mounting a drive goes... I'm assuming you mounted it in a regular PM first and then formatted it? I did a quick format in Windows on my nvme drive and then went to drive mgmt to make sure it was online. After I did that I installed it and the device came right up for me on the r58x. You have the option to go into the storage settings from Android --> settings --> storage and then you can format it there and also have the option of moving over everything to that drive to use as a primary storage. You android OS would still run from emmc, but everything else can run from the other drive.
BTW, is the storage issue an issue with plex specifically or does your OS not see the drive either?
