Galaxy S10Plus 120hz refresh missing after One UI 2.5 update. - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Can anyone on here confirm that after the One UI 2.5 September update that the 120hz refresh rate option is no longer available? Using Activity launcher we were able to change it but now, regardless of the screen resolution setting, the 120hz option is grayed out for me. Anyone else?

I guess it was cool having that option, but it didn't do anything anyway

Why do you care about this? The S10+ screen is only 60Hz. 120Hz screens are more expensive and I don't think that Samsung put 120Hz screens in the S10+ without making that available.

Before, you could have that option to "activate" 120hz. But it wouldn't do anything (it could maybe do some harm). The S10+ is not cable of 120Hz (even if that is active):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/120-hz-refresh-rates-galaxy-s10-note-10-t4077139

It was never there to begin with. Would I have 100$ if I add one 0 on my 10$ banknote?

Oh jeez not this again.....
The option was for the S20, the S10 cannot do 120hz as everyone has stated. Samsung was just lazy and didn't remove it from the S10 builds until now apparently.

All I hear is that OP5 won't have daydream just because the screen is IPS-LCD, not AMOLED like Pixel or Pixel XL. Daydream only enable by Google when the phone use 2K AMOLED screen. IPS-LCD won't get any even it has the same resolution.
So, probably OP5 won't feature any Daydream.
No amoled? Are you sure? Are they going to sell a much more expensive handset with no amoled? That would be a huge mistake! I'm really willing to buy one, but with no amoled I won't do it!

That's the first time I've read any source claim that the screen wouldn't be AMOLED, so what's your source? Whether the phone has QHD seems to be in grave doubt though. Next week and all will be revealed.

The OP5 will definitely have an AMOLED, dont worry
It will be an amoled, it might just be 1080p tho...
It will most probably have the same screen as Oppo R11 which is a 5.5" Full HD AMOLED. I'm so very disappointed. This OP3 screen is horrible in VR -- it's slow, the pixels are huge, there's the glow that shouldn't be there...
It has 401 pixels per inch, which a bit lower than HTC Vive & Oculus Rift at 455.63 PPI which both felt way too pixelated for me when I tried them. I returned the Vive for that reason, VR content was not enjoyable at all. Samsung Gear VR with the S8 is more acceptable and with that I can see the stuff on screen better and I don't have to go very close to the objects like with Vive & Rift & OP3. The new Pixels should have 2K+ screens AND be faster to meet the Daydream specs, so I'll personally just wait for those and go test when they come out...
These HMD's for Windows Mixed Reality have screens that have much more usable PPI at 704.66: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/acer-hp-windows-mixed-reality-dev-kits,34389.html
1440x1440 resolution, 2.89" size, 90 hz refresh rate..they're most probably LCD, though, not AMOLED, so it remains to be seen how good they are for VR/AR/MR.
TL;DR: If the OP5 had a 2K screen it would have 33% better pixel density which would vastly improve VR usage over 1080p. Better to wait for the new Pixels if you're like me and would love to use mobile VR
Hey guys, Does anyone know about the Daydream support for OP 5? Before it was just speculations, now the phone has launched does anyone have any update regarding this topic? I have searched the net but no one has mentioned anything about VR. Infact no one has covered this point in their review etc.
Thanks!

No one covered because there is no official support. Officially the OP5 is not compatible with Daydream, and OP does not sound interested. It is unknown (at least to me) if this phone covers one of the requirements: a surface temperature sensor. Since the main purpose of the OP line is to provide best processor/memory for less price, is likely that this sensor is absent.
That being said, there is a thread about how to force a rooted OP3T to support Daydream. Should be the same with OP5.

Google Cardboard not rendering right?

Hi, I've got a galaxy a5 2017 and for some reason the Google cardboard app (and all other cardboard apps) render weird. I made a screen capture so you can see.
https://youtu.be/dEFa3qdIuhg
May b something related to zoom or display dpi level
Same issue, although not that heavy, on my Samsung S7, but only on some apps.
Maybe we could merge threads and wait for suggestions?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mobile-vr/cardboard/horizontally-misaligned-images-s7-t3734725
Please note that I do not change any option when switching from a game to another, but some work properly, some do not.
yea
I think I found the solution: check the screen settings of your phone.
On my S7 I have 3 choices:
HD (1280x720)
FHD (1920x1080)
WQHD (2560x1440)
Cardboard works properly only with last one.

Is the G6 worth buying ? How's the performance,thermals,battery life ?

Hey guys i'm looking to buy a new phone (currently using the nexus 5x) and i've got my sights on the G6 or S7 Edge . The phones will be european versions so H870 and G935F . I would like to know if the G6 has any issues like bootlooping or overheating , how is the overall performance , battery life in general information of the device what you like in it and what you dislike . My personal points for upgrading are battery life coz i get a max of 3hrs sot with lets say an hour of gaming listening to music and messenger and the performance because the 5x throttles hard . Does the H870 come with anything like amp or wireless charging ?
Great hardware, ok software, very late updates
If you want screen on time I would look at Lenovo P2. 12-13 SOT, SD625 SOC, 5100Mah battery and amoled screen and over 4 days on standby for approx £225. Ok the camera is pants but everything else is great. G6 looks great but battery standby performance is rubbish. Either root it or gamble that Oreo will sort this out. S7 good phone but those bezels are sooo big and the edge is a bit of a gimmick. Have you considered Honor 9? Specs look good. I chose G6 H870DS over S7 but now wish I had bought a Lenovo P2. Good luck.

From Huawei i looked up to the P10 but i see on the xda threat that it has minor custom rom, kernel, apps community but its a viable option . Im looking for good screen on time not the best but good enough for lets say 5 hours sot that will get me easily through the day also im looking for good performance in games and the wide angle lens seems sweet.
I make 5 h SOT easy , and i had the huawei p10 plus and i can say , LG G6 has better gaming performance than the p10 plus , i run pes2018 with no problem , the huawei had very lag so i couldn't play it
The camera is desapointing , the p10 is much better ( my opinion , dont judge me )
The p10 also looks faster in everyday use , opening apps , switching apps etc...
Interesting, I own a S7 Edge (Snapdragon) and a G6, but not the models you've listed running stock. I'll point out the main stuff first for the G6 that you wanted to know:
Bootloop: Not yet, but afraid of. I bought the G6 because it was ~ 250usd!
Overheat: No overheat for my G6.
Performance: My G6 is smooth... I don't think the Exynos is better than that.
Battery: The G6 has an odd idle battery drain, heavy use is fine. I get 5~7 SOT with heavy use, but seems like no one else gets 7 hours.
Wireless Charging: Seems like only US/Canada and G6+ come with that. S7 Edge has it.
Amp: Do you mean for audio output? The G6 without quad-dac is for low impedance headphones, like very low... the Exynos S7 Edge doesn't have the same internal DAC as I have so I can't comment on that.
I think you'll get used to the G6 faster than the S7 from the Nexus 5x. The navbar, the fingerprint sensor, closer to stock android than Touchwiz... but you may want something different .
For extra stuff, read below
LG G6:
Wide-angle (but check the 2.09 vs 2.01mm lens : https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg6/comments/7gqln4/lg_g6_is_produced_with_2_versions_of_wide_angle/)
Different aspect-ratio, may see black bars for 16:9 picture/videos
FM Radio
Navigation bar
IPS Display -> Screen retention only (no nav buttons/status bar burn-in)
Power button is at the back (odd if new to LG G series)
Fingerprint at the back like the 5x
S7 Edge:
Better front and back camera
Wireless charging
Vivid screen colors and deep blacks
Screen burn-in
Custom roms from xda? it seems to have great support for your model
Rumored 3rd year of update as the rumored Oreo update for the S6
Hardware buttons, my home button has a weird click noise now.
Curved screen, this is gorgeous but I don't like to watch videos on it, especially the subtitles that goes with the curve and it is hard to get and apply a screen protector that covers the entire thing!
Anyways, hope it helps
The G6 is in my opinion a good all round phone and does most things very well. It will easily get you through the day with 5 hours SOT but will need recharging every night. I have never had any issues with the phone overheating, lagging or crashing. The phone is very well built and it’s quality is in a different league to the G5. Personally this is the best smartphone camera I have used and the wide angle lens is a useful addition. The screen and the lack of bezels are what attracted me this phone along with the fact that it cost me half the original price 3 months after its launch.
What annoys me most is the fact that LG are very slow to update with security patches and more importantly android updates. There is a well known problem with poor standby battery drain in Nougat that some other manufacturers have addressed. Losing 15-20% of battery overnight is rubbish and we are hoping Oreo might improve this. LG sell a lot less phones than Samsung or Apple and have less resources/staff to develop products and update firmware. So whilst they are sorting Oreo for th V30 and developing the G7 we might have to wait well into 2018 for a G6 Oreo update. I so hope I am wrong!

Very useful information ! I looked at the G6 because the S7 Edge is getting 2 years old in about 3 month and the G6 is basically on par with the S7 Edge for specs and i see it as ''more future proof'' than the S7 Edge because of the design and dual camera setup . My only concern is the bootloop and that i saw reviews of the G6 having inconsistent performance and getting pretty hot , also because a friend of mine has the G5 idk if the G6 is even comparable to the G5 but he had a world of trouble with it 6 months into owning it he had to sent it in for a screen replacement then a battery replacement also it fragmented his data once. All I want is a better phone than the 5x with better battery and some kind of "future proof".

Yeah I agree that the G6 looks more future proof with the design.
For the bootloop I'm not sure because I'm new to LG, I made sure to buy somewhere that LG would offer a warranty.
Your friend's case seems to be an immense trouble hahaha, he probably hates LG by now lol
Anyways, better phone overall is subjective so I can't decide for you with that , even if the 5x is from 2015.
Edit: And the batteries from both should in general be better than the 5x

Really not sure what to tell you about that...
Both have high resolution displays (QHD and QHD+), but I think the G6 has crisper images without looking at the ppi thing. Make sure to turn on QHD (1440p) for the S7 Edge! It is FHD (1080p) by default on Nougat. Just go to Display -> Screen Resolution.
Brightness I don't know, they both seem bright enough... for anything?
The S7 Edge has a little green tint near the 2 edges (left and right). With adaptive display on, the white is more white than the LG, the black is always more black, greater contrast, The colors are saturated. You can change the settings if you find it too vibrant by going to Display -> Screen mode.
The G6 has a cold display (blue tint everywhere). Colors are less vibrant compared to the S7 Edge. If you want, you can try going to accessibility -> vision -> screen color ajustment, tap on manual and slide a bit down the circle for higher contrast. It supports HDR, but seems to be useless for me as I don't use it at all.
The red on the G6 is like the red from a regular ballpoint pen that I was not used to. On the S7 Edge the red is a little bit orange which seems to be normal? The blue and green are similar, only that the S7 Edge's color is always more vibrant/popping to my eyes.
My opinion: I really don't mind which one I use, I have seen way worse screens.
Other issues that I have seen in real life (not on mine)
S7 Edge: Pink vertical line, Burn-in on the status bar
G6 : White bleed
In the end, I think the best thing to do if you have time, is go to a shop that has the S7 Edge and the G6 as a demo, take some time to compare those 2 if you are still focused on those 2, experience with those, and then choose the one you like .
Feel free to ask more questions if you want
Side note:
Are you planning to use emulators (NDS, PSP) on your device? I find the LG's display size better for those, more space for the controls. Also, I don't feel comfortable using an OLED because the controls may damage the display...
I'm waiting for my G6 to be delivered.
I did have a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus....which was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC on every level...battery life, performance etc....definitely beats the G6 in every way possible.
BUT, I cracked the screen on my S8...so sold it on Ebay and advertised it with the cracked screen and I had 51 bids and it soled for £400.00 !! AMAZING!
So I Bought a brand new LG G6 on Ebay for £260....lol can't fault the bargain!
Last LG I owned was the G3..which was awesome, even though the G6 screen is small compared to S8 Plkus...i'm hoping its gonna be a good phone anyway.

Better autofocus I don't know, they both focus on the right thing but what I've notice is that the S7 edge is faster at focusing. By the way, something that I forgot to mention is that the S7 can have a sony or a samsung sensor. I have the sony one.

anybody comes from s20 ultra to one plus 8 pro any regrets?

im currently planning to buy a new phone, in my country one plus 8 pro is almost the same price of a s20 ultra, currently i have samsung active 2 and samsung galaxy buds plus, is there anybody here that come from s20 ultra or any s20 lineup and regret it?
Yes, I came from S20 ultra, then S20+ (for a 7-day free trial) then to Oneplus 8 Pro.
Both Samsung devices were running Exynos chipsets and were having poor battery life and getting hot pretty much all the time, even with almost no apps installed.
S20 ultra camera had big focusing issues, even with the latest updates applied.
I have NO regrets, SnapDragon 865 is just much better and Android OxygenOS is great!

Are u facing any display issues? Like green tint, image retention, burn in , black crush during low background? Any display uniformity? M planning to buy 8 pro in india.. but the display issues most of users are facing making me think not to buy... Plz rly
hi all,
I have S20Ultra since the begining. Then I bought Oneplus 8 Pro.
PROs for S20Ultra:
great display
flat display
one ui
96hz refresh rate
one handed mode
able to customise UI using Substratum, Sinergy or Hex without root
compatible with Disabler Pro to disable bloatware
CONs for S20Ultra:
exynos chipset which is terrible
quick heating up
autofocus issues
bad overall pictures and filming due to 108mp sensor not being optimised
bad HDR
no reliable face id
I used Disable Pro to disable bloatware and i managed to get a decent battery life of almost 7hrs SoT and a decent standby battery drain
PROs Oneplus8 Pro:
great display
120hz refresh rate
good battery life
option to install and use gcam
CONs Oneplus 8 Pro:
no one-hand mode
no 90hz display refresh rate lower rate
curved display
unable to customise UI using Substratum, Sinergy or Hex without root
notcompatible with Disabler Pro to disable bloatware
no reliable face id
bottom line:
if S20Ultra would have had a Snapdragon 865 chipset or a decent comparable Exynos one
if Samsung would care to give great camera experience
if 3d face id would be available
then i would buy Note 20+ or S20+ immediatelly
If Oneplus 8 Pro would fix 3x camera zoom pictures and video
if no curved display
if 3d face id would be available
then i will buy Oneplus 8 pro without to think

Tough one. The camera is better on the S20 ultra (not the auto-focus) but not by a big margin.
OxygenOS is so much better than Samsung UI 2.0 in my opinion, and I prefer the screen of my Oneplus 8 Pro than the one on S20 ultra.
The price difference is also a factor and it is close to stock android.
I think I would have still switched. I am just disappointed with Samsung (and I had all of them since before the S7)

None, but I have the IN2020 with the BA software, and my understanding is that they mostly are safe (I saw that in another forum).
I imported it from China with the Global EU rom on it already installed (the box was sealed, so it must have been a version for the EU?)
The screen is gorgeous, no black crush, no retention.

hi all,
I have S20Ultra since the begining. Then I bought Oneplus 8 Pro.
PROs for S20Ultra:
great display
flat display
one ui
96hz refresh rate
one handed mode
able to customise UI using Substratum, Sinergy or Hex without root
compatible with Disabler Pro to disable bloatware
CONs for S20Ultra:
exynos chipset which is terrible
quick heating up
autofocus issues
bad overall pictures and filming due to 108mp sensor not being optimised
bad HDR
no reliable face id
I used Disable Pro to disable bloatware and i managed to get a decent battery life of almost 7hrs SoT and a decent standby battery drain
PROs Oneplus8 Pro:
great display
120hz refresh rate
good battery life
option to install and use gcam
CONs Oneplus 8 Pro:
no one-hand mode
no 90hz display refresh rate lower rate
curved display
unable to customise UI using Substratum, Sinergy or Hex without root
notcompatible with Disabler Pro to disable bloatware
no reliable face id
bottom line:
if S20Ultra would have had a Snapdragon 865 chipset or a decent comparable Exynos one
if Samsung would care to give great camera experience
if 3d face id would be available
then i would buy Note 20+ or S20+ immediatelly
If Oneplus 8 Pro would fix 3x camera zoom pictures and video
if no curved display
if 3d face id would be available
then i will buy Oneplus 8 pro without to think

Excellent analysis! So true!
OnePlus 8 pro compared to S20 Ultra has a gorgeous display with the crisp clarity of the details. The OnePlus8 Pro comes with DisplayA+ rated
I've been seen so many issues on this xda forum for this phone that its getting me thinking to keep the s20 ultra, overheat issues, besides the screen issues, sadly because I really like it, but with no official support in my Country, that would be a high risk, better scenario should be to send the phone to US / Texas and would be a hassle...

hi,
if using with playstore what notifications issues? meaning for which applications you don;t get notifications?
and what means aurora store with google but playstore won't work?
Keeping it short.
Ordered the s20 ultra, didn't turn up re: covid.
Cancelled it.
Ordered OnePlus 8 Pro.
Heard so much awful news about the lacklustre ultra is definitely a bullet dodged, especially the Exynos turd.

yep i had an s20 ultra at launch exynos version experience was really bad drain of battery even of standby is almost the same as you are using it i sold it after 10 days of use. reason im trying to reconsider the exynos version is have no choice thats my country available option only is that they may have an updates that would make the exynos likeable again

if you want all your push notifications working then the alternative way is using aurora store and disabling playstore

Note 20 Ultra Less Vivid & Less Bright than Note 20

Recently famous tech review channel "Unbox Therapy" posted a first impressions unboxing video of the Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra.
While comparing the 2 devices he happened to noticed when comparing the 2 models that the display of the ULTRA was way LESS vivid and LESS bright than the STANDARD Note 20.
He confirmed both were set to 100% brightness, both had adaptive brightness OFF, both were set to Vivid Screen Mode, and both had the white point in the center.
You can view the video and see the difference yourself in the video here....
Time stamp 8:50 if you just want to jump right when he realizes the display difference between them, and starts to troubleshoot this strange difference.
I was planning on potentially preordering the Note 20 Ultra so this really bothered me since I prefer a Vivid display. It shows on video he checked every setting except "Adaptive Color Filter" and "Enhanced Video."
My Testing and Results
So I knew I had to go to the store to see for myself and I went to Best Buy today and they had both the Note 20 & Note 20 Ultra on display.
Bad news... SAME exact results that Lew from Unbox Therapy had. See the pictures of all settings and testing I did below.
In all pictures the Note 20 Ultra is on the Left, the Standard Note 20 on the Right.
Brightness at Max for both displays, and Adaptive Brightness disabled for both devices, and Blue Light Filter disabled for both devices, and both devices set to Vivid mode.
Display Settings
Adaptive Color was also disabled on both devices.
Adaptive Color Filter
Notice the Standard Note 20 on the right has a brighter white point.
White Balance Comparison
This is a 4K UHD wallpaper I downloaded onto both devices. It's the exact same image from the same website. Notice that the Standard Note 20 on the right has more Vivid looking colors with better contrast.
Color Comparison
CONCLUSION:
After spending literally 30+ minutes standing there playing around with both phones, it seems the brightness is pretty close to the same on both. But the Standard Note 20 did seem to have a slight edge on 100% brightness. However the main big difference is the Standard Note 20 has more Vivid colors and Higher Contrast.
I do not think this is because the Note 20 Ultra display is not able to produce colors and contrast as Vivid as the Regular Note 20. I believe it just has to do with the display calibration in the hard coded software of the Ultra that is causing the colors to be more Natural than Vivid.
I came to the conclusion it was a software issue when I was watching the same YouTube video on both displays (Video Enhancer was disabled for both devices), and when playing the video the Ultra suddenly kicked into a more Vivid mode making it look nearly identical to the Regular Note.
Then when closing out of the video and to the YouTube home page it went back to a more Natural color and less contrast mode. Of course that was strange since video enhancer was disabled for both devices.
So this proves the display is capable of being Vivid with High Contrast, but just something in software that Samsung needs to calibrate in the Ultra model. Or maybe worse... potentially this was intentional by Samsung to help preserve battery since it is a 120hz display?
So Samsung needs to.... 1.) Crank up the Vividness of the Vivid mode to at least be Equal to the Standard Note and 2.) Fix video enhancement from turning on during YouTube videos when it's disabled in settings.
So I'm holding off to make a decision on whether to preorder or not since there is still about 12 days left. Meanwhile I hope that they push out a early release software update to fix the Vivid color profile on the Ultra. This is technically preproduction software so it COULD change with a software update, but there's of course no guarantee Samsung will fix this.
So if you prefer a Vivid display that Samsung is typically known for, then it is up to us as consumers to bring this to the attention of Samsung and popular Tech Reviewers, because Samsung doesn't know to fix this color calibration in software unless we make noise to let them know we want a Vivid display.
What is everyone's thoughts on this? Would this be a deal breaker for you on a $1,300 phone if the Vivid Colors and Contrast is noticeably less when compared to your Note 10+ or your S10/S10+ or S20/S20+? or do you prefer a more natural less vivid display?
---------
Sidenote.....
Hopefully also @dylanraga does a detailed display test on the Note 20 Ultra just like the awesome job he did with the OnePlus 8 Pro right here. That way we can see the actual technical results to further our evidence to bring to Samsung's attention.

Further Confirmation of This Issue....
I asked Hayato Huseman (videographer/reviewer at Android Central) if he could check his Note 20 Ultra device. He did not have a regular Note 20 to compare, but confirmed the Note 20 Ultra is LESS Vivid than the S20 Ultra.
So that means people upgrading from a previous Galaxy will potentially be upgrading to a Less Vivid display in the Note 20 Ultra.
Very interesting and disappointing results for me personally. So now Unbox Therapy, and now Hayato from Android Central, and my personal testing have all confirmed the Note 20 Ultra isn't as Vivid as standard Note or Galaxys. I'm hoping a software update gets pushed out to resolve this.
Here is the Tweet where Hayato confirms this comparison if anyone wants to check it out.

New Update!!! Some Note 20 Ultras might have dimmer and less vibrant display than other Note 20 Ultras.
This entire post was originally dedicated to the Note 20 Ultra having a less bright and less vivid display than the standard Note 20, and even the Note 10 Plus, Note 9, Note 8, S20/S20+/S20 Ultra, and OnePlus 8 Pro.
However this issue just took a more crazy turn for the worse. Now it has been discovered that some Note 20 Ultra phones have dimmer less vibrant displays than other Note 20 Ultra phones. Thats right... 2 of the same phones with [different looking displays. This was discovered thanks to Zack at JerryRigEverything YouTube channel when he was testing the 2 different processors.
Check out his video here
At time stamp 4:05 he says... "You might have also noticed the screen color is a bit different with both phones. I'm pretty sure I have the brightness turned up all the way on each. But it makes you wonder if there are other components that don't match up between the variants as well."
I have also attached a picture on page 6 of a post to show the difference. My Note 20 Ultra is a US Snapdragon variant and my display looks like the display on the left (Zach's exynos). I also noticed today that adaptive brightness is NOT fully turning off. I thought a few times over the past couple weeks I saw my display suddenly get brighter or dimmer. But I figured it was just my imagination because I always keep the adaptive brightness off.
However I am able to consistently reproduce it. If I put the brightness at 100% with adaptive brightness Off, then open chrome, the phone immediately dims 1 second after. Then brightens back at the home screen. Try it on your phone. Maybe the out of wack adaptive brightness is a separate issue, or maybe this could be the culprit to these dimmer less vivid displays. So I wanted to mention it too.
I also was able to reproduce it in a different scenario by putting my phone inches away from a bright light in my bathroom while on 100% manual brightness, notice it get brighter without me touching anything, then take it away from the light quickly, then see it dim right in front of my face. Looks like its dropping a solid 20% brightness but the slider doesn't change position. Still shows 100%!
Please test those 2 scenarios on your phone let everyone know if it happens to you too. Also if someone happens to have 2 Note 20 Ultras or know someone who does, then please compare the displays and post 2 pictures. One showing the 2 displays on the google.com homepage in chrome and 1 showing the display section in settings.
Anyone who had a noticeably dimmer display than 1 of your previous Samsung phones made in the past 2 years, then please contact Samsung support and report this. I will be contacting them for the first time about this issue and pushing them for a resolution. Even if that means exchanging for another Note 20 Ultra.
I prefer a more natural looking display like my iPhone LOL.
However, I agree, if someone WANTS inaccurate oversaturated colors then it should be available to them.
That is why stereos have bass and treble controls.
Honestly not real worried about it. Unless you have both side by side shouldn't ever notice. Now if it doesn't look better then my note 10+ then we will have a problem
Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
At 60hz it's more easy to calibrate the screen colour than a 120hz since there is more variables. That's why Pixel 4 XL has problems at lower brightness at launch since it wasn't calibrated.
Did you disable enhanced video mode on both of them?

Yep! I mention that in my original post. Read in the conclusion section.
Also the picture of me comparing colors is not a video. That is a downloaded a wallpaper. So even if it was turned on, that setting should not affect pictures to my knowledge.

Yes! Exactly!! Everyone has different preferences. The option should be there for those who want. Plus what's the point of having a vivid display option when it's not that vivid? That kind of defeats the purpose of the setting existing.
Plus Samsung says on their website that the Ultra is the most Vivid display on any Galaxy. Clearly that's not the case when comparing it to the standard Note 20. Since their website claims it's supposed to be the most vivid, that indicates the Ultra display is not supposed to be this way and something might be messed up in the software that is preventing it from being as vivid as they claim it should be, so they just need to roll out an update to fix it.

It's definitely not more vivid than my S10+ but I didn't take any pictures of that. It seems to be about the same Vividness as my S10+ which is strange.
Not sure about the Note 10+ but probably same results since it wasn't more Vivid than my S10+. I highly recommend going to compare it to your Note 10+ in person.

Good point! I actually did briefly put the Note 20 Ultra into 60hz then compared again. I got the same results. Still not as Vivid as the Standard Note 20. I just didn't mention it in my original post because results were the same as using 120hz from what I could tell.
Could it be as simple as pre-release software, or unlikely?

Yes, that could definitely be the problem. That it's a bug in their pre-production software that Samsung have not yet noticed.
If you read my conclusion section in my original post I talk about why my testing indicated it seemed to be a software calibration problem and not a problem with the physical display panel.
So that's good, it means they could push out an update to fix it later. Of course there is no guarantee. They will likely only do that if several consumers complain about this issue of the Ultra not being very Vivid in the Vivid display mode.

Lol! Okay fair enough! Although what I worry about the most is they are doing this limit on Vividness to save battery. In which case means they would not fix it.
The only reason I don't think that it's on purpose is because they claim on their website the Ultra display is the most Vivid Galaxy ever.
I assume it's the flat screen? Or maybe not the 2x? I don't know what that means on the ultra

I saw that review from Unbox Therapy (He is really my favorite reviewer - funny but very informative)
Anyway - like virtually all of the Samsung Devices I have ordered pre-orders for (virtually every single major release since the S4 I think) I have gotten sort of used to these little faux pas on their major releases - the last phone, Galaxy 20 Ultra had the notorious problems with Auto Focus....and just about every other phone they launched had something that eventually was fixed - so anyway, I kind of expect something to happen each time a new samsung phone is released - while I am not super happy that this appears to be going to happen again with the new note, it seems like it should be relatively easy to fix with an update, once Samsung figures it out...and I do expect they will find and fix it pretty soon.
Thankfully, it doesn't appear to be as big as the battery issues of the Note 7 or the Auto Focus of the S20....Fingers Crossed it gets fixed soon after release...

No, a flat screen would not make a display more Vivid if that is what you're wondering. There has been many curved Samsung displays that were Vivid.
I don't know what you mean by "the 2x" what are you referring to? Where did you see that?

I love how optimistic you are! I hope you're right! Still gonna hold off on the preorder until reviews start to come out over the next few days. Then make my final decision.
Hopefully a reviewer with close connections to Samsung brings it to their attention, so then we can get confirmation they are aware of the issue and working to fix it. Then I will feel better about pre-ordering. I really hope it is fixed, because it seems like the perfect phone in every other way besides this.

Ah Okay I see. I'm not really sure either. I searched that on Google and the display on the S20 Ultra was also called that. I think it's Samsung's way of saying like version 2 of their Dynamic AMOLED. But not sure either. Couldn't really find any explanation.
