Had my S8 now just over a week. I'm finding that the Bluetooth on the unit is starting to fail to initialise when started. Seems to get gradually slower to initiate Bluetooth until it fails to start altogether. So no phone connection for calls, contacts etc. When I attempt to reset in under the Bluetooth 1 app the device name field is blank and when I try and reset it nothing happens. I have to perform a hard reset before it comes back.
Then, when I reconnect my phone, it proceeds to nuke my contacts and I'm forced to restore them from Google. Absolutely awful.
Not looking good, this has now happened 3 times and each time it's left me stranded at the side of the road and scrambling to fix it.
Worth getting it sent back to China? Could this be a hardware or firmware bug....I think I'm shafted. Should've gone with a Kenwood all along... So yeah it's looking like a big fat AVOID for these head units.

OK, posted a few days ago about this foolishly thinking it was solved. However, here's the problem. My touchscreen is completely unresponsive. This isn't the lag problem, which I've had before, but the phone acts as if it hasn't been touched at all. In other words, the only input accepted comes from the buttons.
This happens when I'm running android. Waiting overnight doesn't help. Pulling the battery doesn't help. I cannot even use the touchscreen in WM when this happens! Moreoever, if I do a hard reset, I still cant use the touchscreen when the setup pages show in WM. The touchscreen is completely gone.
The ONLY thing that has worked (once) to restore function is to pull the battery overnight.
The only pattern to this seems to be that it happens when I have a message waiting while running android (no, not every time). The screen will be locked, and I can't get the lockscreen to clear. Eventually I pull the battery and reboot in windows, same problem. Hard reset, same problem. Last night, had the problem so I landlined in and cleared the voicemails. Then did a hard reset, but the phone during the setup still indicated I had a message (!) and the touchscreen was locked. It is as if the notification was 1) stored in a different memory than the phone (does the radio keep this information) and 2) that until the phone is reconnected properly it can't clear the notification and won't let me access the touchscreen. Perhaps the overnight battery pull allowed the notification to clear from the phone somehow?
I'm looking for any help on this. Is there an aggressive way to clear notifications? Would a task 29 solve this? Button combo I"m unaware of?
Thanks in advance
yoiur unit may need to be send in for repair. sounds more like a hardware fault. You may be able to get a digitizer from ebay and replace it, though they are a bit tricky to replace. Ive only ever done it on an mda varia and that was a paid
This is actually not uncommon... i have a friend who purchased an HD2 and used it for a week or 2 and the touchscreen stopped. You can try and do the task 29 however it didn't help hers... has your phone ever come in contact with static electricity? This seems to be the #1 killer of the touch screen functions with the HD2's... (so far i've seen 4 of them die like this)... i would try task 29... then if that doesn't work call HTC and ask if you can send it in for a repair, most of the time if its repairable, they'll fix it and charge you a fee of usually $100.00... if its not repairable due to faulty hardware, they will send you a new one (usually re manufactured) another option is, if you have tmous take it back to a store and show them... they should be able to swap it out for free if you have insurance on it
I was concerned about hardware, and it may still be the issue, but it seems intermittent, in that sometimes I can get the phone working again for a couple of days. However, this symptom has only come in the last week or so, so it does seem as if something has changed. I'm constantly tweaking my Android setup, but I can't imagine this could have an effect that would go over to WM, especially after a HARD reset...
Possible solution
OK, if you've read the thread above, you know that hard resets didn't seem to solve the problem. However, I just did a hard reset without a sim card installed, hoping to clear whatever notification was stored on the phone. While the touchscreen was still locked without a sim, I re-inserted the sim and did another hard reset and it worked! Time will tell if this is a real solution. Luckily, my android system is just on the sd card and easily booted up or I would spend all my time rebuilding my phone!
Again, does anyone know if this might be related to the radio rom? I've tried a couple radios since this started 2.14 and 2.15.
OK, one more update. I notice now that when I long-press the hangup key, to get the context menu for such items as shut down or turn radio off, the touchscreen becomes inactive. Several minutes later it seems to come back, but my conclusion is that the connection to the touchscreen must be near or under that button and I'm affecting an intermittent connection.
This is the last post I have on the issue because I got a refurbished phone sporting ROM 3.14 and Radio 2.15 less than 24 hours after asking TMOUS to replace my phone. Now I have to clean the custom rom off the old phone and send it back, so I'll never know for sure if it was software or hardware, unless the problem recurs on the new (refurbed) phone. However, the symptom above with the long press hangup does NOT happen so it seems that was the issue.
Hey all,
I have a galaxy s7 edge that's 2 months old. It's randomly freezing which is forcing me to do a hard reset or rebooting. I have done a factory restart by the settings, I have done a factory restart by holding the power, home and volume up key and lastly I have done a smart switch emergency thingy-me-bob.
The phone has never been rooted or messed around with in that matter and was working flawlessly up until this point. It's running all the latest updates you can get OTA - My next step tomorrow is to go into store for them to essentially repeat what I have done for several months...wondering if anyone here has any ideas of anything else I could try? Hoping it isn't a hardware defect.
Cheers,
Tom
Had exactly the same issue. Ran it in safe mode and it still froze. Factory reset - still the same problem. Sent it off to Samsung and got it back a few days ago along with the usual note explaining that the fault had been identified, latest software had been installed and it had passed through quality control. Went through setup and within an hour it was freezing again. Not convinced Samsung did anything other than re-flash the firmware and send it back. I'm guessing that this is a hardware issue, as I have read many posts with people experiencing the same issue. It's going back tomorrow so they can try again, with a note in the box, politely asking them to dig a little deeper....
Did another factory reset and it's frozen while on the always on display svtren. Think I'll be leaving a note asking them to do a physical hardware check!
You have latest software?
As per the original post, everything is running on latest.
Any way, visited the 'Geek squad' who informed me that I had done a factory reset wrong *sigh* restarted it infront of me and would you believe it! crashed. They're now sending it to Samsung to look at who I assume will just flash it again.
Very very disappointed with the edge, compared to my OP3T it's so sluggish.
had the same problem. had to send mine to samsung. there was something wrong with the partitioning i think but in some way odin couldn't fix
Fingers crossed it's something like that is wrong with mine!
I have exactly the same problem.
I'm in aus, and bought the phone from HK, so I'm a bit reluctant to send it back to HK/China.
I've done everything... but still the same.

From what I have read, it sounds like a hardware issue. The guy are the store was an utter moron but he did say the harder it is to the fix the more likely they are to just give me a new phone. Once i get it back ill share what they've done and see if it can help fix your issue.
Mine does reboot from time to time. Once a day, once a week...
Sometimes reboots when it stands alone on charging, sometimes in my pocket. I just realizes when my smartwatch vibrates to advert lost bluetooth conection.
Lastest firmware. I´ll probably will send to warranty.
I just recently got the S7 Edge. Great phone I just hates when it does that.
I'm wondering if anyone here has dealt with an ATOTO A6 bootlooping after doing playstore updates. From what I could gather from their support site, it's fairly common and usually a reset fixes it.
Well I have this problem as it stopped booting after doing a bunch of playstore updates. Did them one day, let the truck sit overnight and next morning turned it on and unit boots up to the first boot image and that's it. Never goes further.
I've been trying to work with ATOTO for a week now, and I think they are truly clueless. They told me I needed the remote control and it could reset the system. They acted like it would start a full blown system recovery and then I'd have a "fresh" unit again. So I followed their commands after getting the remote in and nothing. It acts no different than hitting the reset button on the front of the unit.
Has anyone gone through this? I have a feeling I will have to ship it to them all the way on the other side of the country, but it's been less than 6 months. I really can't see having to ship this out to them every 6 months to be fixed. It seems to me that there should be a way to force a full system recovery just like any android phone or tablet I've ever owned or messed with when something goes wrong. I don't have a male to male USB cable to mess with it myself.
So I am really just hoping someone has already been through this and figured it out and my google fu sucked and the countless threads I've read, I've just missed the right one
I'm a long-time programmer, but this is not a programming question, and I'm not even sure that this is the right place to ask this question. If not, my apologies. I cannot find any real Xtrons support anywhere on the web. I have emailed them, but have not received a response, and I'm impatient.
I purchased and installed an Xtrons head unit, and it worked OK for a few weeks. This morning I went to breakfast and was able to play music through BT into the head unit. After breakfast, all of my BT pairs were gone, and when I scanned to see local BT devices, the scan never terminated: it went on forever. Attempts to pair to the head unit from my phone failed. BT is suddenly totally dead. I've power cycled the head unit (turned the car off and on) repeatedly.
Not sure if this is a driver, software (OS), or hardware issue. Not sure if there is a BT antenna that could have been shaken loose. I can't see any way to force the Android device (the head unit) to do a normal power down as one would with a phone or tablet: the "power" switch seems more like a "sleep" switch. There are two BT-related processes, which I can see, one of which I can force to terminate, the other of which I cannot, but that has not helped. I cannot see any way to clear the cache or data for these processes. I'm looking for some kind of "reset", without joy.
Any hints would be appreciated. Assume that I'm somewhat experienced at Android use, but not at Android development.
Thanks
Jon
Edit: I stumbled upon the hidden location of the Reset button. Once I reset the unit, the BT functions returned immediately. There documentation does not include a photo of the front of the unit, so finding the Reset button was not obvious. And many emails and an hour on a chat session did not have Xtrons support suggest a Reset. Anyway. It's working again.
Good morning!
I bought this phone off of a friend for dirt cheap because they changed it because of this problem. I Tried everything in my power, like reflashing the firmware, but nothing seems to work really. I'm pretty positive it's a hardware failure of some sort. I was trying to get it fixed but I get mostly a "Change the motherboard". Before going with that route, and possibly adding to more e-waste, I would like to try and pin-point the source of the problem. I have a log of the last few seconds before the phone freezes and reboots by itself.
Hope this could be able to at least see where the problem is, if not i'll just buy a random motherboard off of aliexpress praying to not get scammed, or just sell it back for parts since the display works completely
