The last few mornings I've turned on my tv and found my Nexus Player sitting at the recovery screen; finally clued in there must be an update.
So what is the best way to install this small 15mb update? Tried doing it in TWRP, but it failed.
Do I need to re-flash stock recovery and just let it do the work?
Will I lose ROOT access?
I'm pretty keen to get the update, fingers crossed it fixes the Netflix problem.
So I've done more reading and realised I'm going to have to;
- download the factory image,
- install,
- re-root,
- re-flash TWRP
- reinstall Xposed and the modules
- Re-setup if any data is lost
This could become a painful process if Google stick with their promise of monthly patching. Is there a better way?
Are you sure that your Nexus Player's random reboots are being caused by an attempted system update? If your Android device is rooted with a custom recovery, you shouldn't even be prompted for system updates. A couple of months ago, I noticed my Nexus Player randomly going in to recovery mode but this only started happening after I installed the initial x86 version of Xposed for Android 5.1 by romracer. After I updated the device to a newer version of Xposed, I no longer had this random rebooting problem.

The monthly patches from Google will probably be security-oriented so I don't think it's necessary to update that often on a device like the Nexus Player. I wouldn't bother to go through all those steps just to move from Android 5.1 to 5.1.1 but I don't mind doing whatever's necessary for a major operating system update such as Android 6.0 (Marshmallow).
I did the upgrade yesterday. All sorted.
I only ended up flashing the system.img from the factory image, re-rooted and reinstalling Xposed.
Wasn't as much work as I thought and I didn't lose any data/setting.
This particular minor upgrade seems to have fixed the issue with Netflix deactivating itself; so well worth it in my book. But will only flash minor patches in the future if there is an issue I'm trying to fix like Netflix.
Interesting point about Xposed causing the reboots, I will keep an eye on it. It's only been one night, but it was fine this morning.
They weren't random reboots as such, only happened over night and never while in use. I thought that was normal behaviour for the NP; auto check for update, auto download update, auto install update during night/idle. The issue did seem to line up perfectly with the release of the update.

Found the NP at the recovery screen this morning, booted up and there was an Android update pending.
So I can say for certain that Xposed wasn't causing the reboots. Hasn't reboots itself since I started this thread a month again.
Looks like Google are going to make good on their monthly patching; so I either need to find a smooth way to update, re-root and re-install Xposed or disable the auto-update feature in Android. It could get painful.

Twice now I have only flashed "system.img" from the stock ROM without any issue.
- flash system.img in fastboot
- re-root with SkipSolt
- remove Japanese and Korean language with Titanium Backup (to create enough space for Xposed)
- reinstall Xposed in recovery
I haven't lost any settings/config this way and only takes about 20mins.
I'm actually not super keen on disabling auto updates for security and bug-fix reasons, so it's looks like I'm going to have to live with the monthly flash-reroot-reXposed method for now. I might script it if I get the time.

Nexus 6 OS version 6.0.1: This method does not work!
ROOT for Official Stock Nougat 7.0 (100% Working) - All Exynos Models (Tested it on SM-G930F/D SM-G935F/D)
By rooting you may lose some and gain some. Be careful in what you are doing.
Read each and every step mentioned in this post carefully and then start working on Root.
If you've any fear about the root. Please stop it here and close the window :angel:

No official OTA updates (Of-course)

Here are the instructions to root your Nougat:
Instructions are similar to Marshmallow. Main thing to note here is - Use the latest supersu build.
Prerequisite:

SR2-SuperSU-v2.79 and above versions.

Instructions:
Enable OEM unlock & Debugging Mode in the Developer Options
Reboot your device into Download mode. To do this, hold the [Volume Down] + [Home] buttons for a while.
Once you reach the Download mode warning screen, press [Volume Up] to continue.
Open Odin and place that TWRP tar file in the [AP] slot and disable Auto-Reboot and click on "Start" by connecting your phone.
When its done flashing, Hold [Volume Down] + [Home] + [Power] to get out of Download mode and immediately swap to [Volume Up] when the screen blanks.
If you don't see TWRP boot splash, try again.
At this point, you will reach the screen asking you if you want to allow system modifications.
By swiping right, you will trigger dm-verity, and if you don't follow the next step you will be unable to boot!
If you are going to root your device and follow the rest of these steps, then it is safe to swipe right and enable modifications.
If you want to use Systemless DevBase, then do not swipe. Keep it as read only.
Go to Wipe and click on format data. Type "yes" and it will format.
Now go back to home and click on "Reboot" then click on "Recovery" Option.
Now Transfer the above downloaded filed into your Phone or Memory Card or OTG Pendrive.
Now again click on Install and flash the Super SU. Only the latest Super SU is working fine with no issues. Do not use the old versions.
You can now click on reboot > system
It will take about 5 Min and boot. Done. You've got the Nougat rooted.
After the fresh boot, you will setup everything. Once you are in, you can observe a notification.
This is a security notification - unauthorised actions have been detected. Restart your device to undo any unauthorised changes
Disable the notification permissions in settings and restart your device by using power button.
Do not restart it by using the option mentioned in that window!
Now go into supersu app. A popup will open to disable the Knox. click on OK. It will take some time to disable it. If its taking more than 5 min and failed to disable, then restart the mobile again and do the same step. it will work now.
Note: You can ignore the last step, If you want to use KNOX - do not disable it.
How to Disable the notification permissions:
Slightly move the notification to the right. You can see a 'settings icon'. Click on that and you'll be taken to notification permissions.
If you see "Allo notifications", disable it.
or
Go to Settings > Applications > Click on 3 dot menu on the right corner and select "Show system Apps". Find "SecurityLogAgent" and open it.
If you dont see that option to disable the notifications:
Go to settings > device maintainance > Device Security > Click on scan device once and close the settings.
Open the supersu app and you may see the popup to disable KNOX. click on OK. (If you've already done this, just restart your mobile)
Restart the device. Done.
If you the see the notification again, install titanium Backup app and Disable/Freeze - SecurityLogAgent & SharedDeviceKeyguard.
Restart your mobile.

Camera doesnt work, flash light doesnt work, wifi problem, delay in response, keyboard doesn't work properly, App closure etc etc.
So, use SR2-SuperSU-v2.79-SR2-20170103215521 and above versions for better results.
Phsuperuser and magisk will also work but, you may have to use custom kernels.

Some of the members are unable to see this option. Members who have upgraded directly from Marshmallow to Nougat are having this issue. You cannot change the notification permissions for system Apps. And for those who have upgraded from Beta, they have the option to disable. not sure why.

I think it's your first time to root your phone.
Snapchat will not work on Rooted devices. Its blocking the user to login on rooted devices.
But, we have many threads in XDA on how to use snapchat despite the root. You should takeout some time to search on google

Or you can use the following steps:
unroot your phone and Restart : Open Supersu > go into settings > go to 'Clenaup' Category > click on "Full unroot". It will remove the root.
Login to your snapchat.
Root the phone by super su again.
You can use the snapchat again.

Yeah Right. Its not needed (as per the comments in that thread).
I have observed the same in MM as well.
In most of the rooting method threads, everyone recommended to flash the no-verify zip. So, I did the same.
Will see if it works that way with the new supersu.
May be you can try that when you get the nougat update
I rooted my s7 v7.0 but i screen mirroring not working on this root i tried to connect when its connect it gives error failed.

I dont have any smart TV. So didnt check.
Try unrooting the device and check again.

In the new official Nougat, S Health app is checking the KNOX flags due to updated security policy. If your knox tripped, then it wont work.
I've tried removing the knox, Removed S Health app and installed it as user app. Nothing worked.
This is working in custom ROMs. Anyway you want to root the official stock, so using custom roms is almost the same. Try them instead of this

I didn't try it myself but maybe it will work:
Just delete S Health completely from system/app and get an older version (e.g. 4.8) from apkmirror. Install that apk as a regular user app and let it update. Some people claim that this method worked for them.
Root dont work
Hi i have s7 with nougat official and I root the phone is ok I have root all good but the root apps don't work properly they ask for permission every 10 sec or crash or they tell my i don't have root the root futures of apps don't work properly
(Lucky Packer crash . Game killer after premison don't work or they tell my my phone isn't root .app2sd error on root)
just install the TWRP another kernel for example, TGP Kernel then lucky works
Keep getting the update pops up and I dont want to update. Is there a way to disable the update itself?
I tried App Settings > System Apps > Moto Update Services, Force stopped but there isnt Freeze or disable Options like my S8. Any ideas?

I froze it in Titanium Backup. That is if you're rooted of course.
Why don't you just update what's the point in not updating when there is an update.
This is under the developer options. It bugged me too.
I'd have a street party if mine said there was an update, i think it is a myth and no updates actually exist.

What option stops the notification? Disabling automatic system updates will still prompt you occasionally to update if there is an update pending.
Using Titanium Backup, I assume freezing Motorola Update Services should be the only app required, correct?
If I wanted an opinion on whether or not I should perform the update, I would have referred to the "should I perform the update" thread - not the "How to disable the G5 plus update notification".
Seems like a very simple thing to understand, no?

Got a new Moto G5 plus (unlocked) with 7.0. Spouse accidentally downloaded update BUT caught the error before installing the update, and did not install. The file is apparently on the phone and now badgers us constantly to install. I want to halt the automatic update process and remove the downloaded update file. I have disabled automatic updates under the 'Developer Options' as you say, but the notice continues, even after reboot. I suspect it is because the update is now resident on the phone and triggers the process, even though it has been switched off under developer options. This phone has not been rooted. I guess the fix will require rooting, but I'm apprehensive about what method is the most current and reliable, specifically for this phone. Any help on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. Til then, a billion annoyances.
Same issue here - and the update notification is extremely aggressive. It will interrupt anything I'm doing, including videos/music on YouTube.
I vaguely recall reading somewhere that we need to flash a stock recovery and boot.img temporarily, but I don't know if that's accurate. I'm wondering if I should just wipe it and install Unofficial LineageOS.

On my rooted device I tried to install Xposed but ran into a boot loop issue after installing the framework so I am inclined to think that isn't a possible route to a solution. The OS notification center is pretty useless in managing app notifications and the battery notification doesn't seem to be tied to a specific app anyway.

So I ended up disabling the System UI notifications all together. And that works but I'm pretty sure its going to disable other important notifications controlled by System UI. If anyone has any true solutions let me know.
Xposed can be installed on the Ascend XT. Search for my Xposed thread. I'm using Magisk Systemless Xposed v87.1.
Why not just swipe away the battery full notification. Yes, you've probably killed other things too by disabling SystemUI.

Have you tried using an Xposed module to remove it, I recall using one to do that to remove the same notification on my S4.

Because it's a nuisance, and I've notice with some games that notification (w/sound) will kill all in game sounds until the game is restarted. But that's just my 2¢

yes it can pop up at the most inopportune time and its honestly a useless notification in the bar that is distracting. notifications shouldnt be in the bar that i should ignore.
@mattzeller and like i said before i tried installing Xposed before i believe the regular installer and that went fine but when i installed the framework and rebooted it kept boot looping at the android logo and i had to reflash the Swift and Fast ROM.
I plan on exploring the Xposed install that divineBliss mentioned I just need to backup my current ROM first and then double check all of the steps required. I hope it works. cause it really is a distracting notification.

Using systemless Xposed is a fairly straightforward process. This is the way I got it working on mine since Magisk wouldn't flash because of the modified boot.img and would only modify stock, you don't have to flash the ROM like I did, but I was doing cleanup and reflash anyway.
1. Download all required files and put them on your external SD card.
a. Swift&Fast: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=72258982
b. Magisk: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=68966662
2. Make sure you have the correct boot.img for the firmware version you are using, can't use B160 boot.img on B170 ROM, it causes wifi problems. I extracted boot.img from @madvane20 's Swift&Fast ROM since that's what I am running.
3. Do all necessary wipes and flash ROM, do NOT reboot yet.
4. Flash extracted boot.img (select img in TWRP to show *.img files) do NOT reboot yet.
5. Flash Magisk (I'm using current/stable)
6. Wipe caches and reboot.
7. Boot your phone, open Magisk Manager and go to Downloads and install Xposed Framework (SDK 23). I got an error here trying to download and install. I fixed it by adding the folder Magiskmanager to internal sdcard.
8. Download and install latest Xposed installer for systemless Xposed. The link for that is in the Magisk module information for Xposed.
9. Reboot (got a kitK Kat? It's gonna be a while) and everything should be working.
Occasionally after a reboot you can't open settings(Xposed issue), just reboot again, should clear that up.

Although I'm sure there's a way via xposed to disable the notification, I haven't found it yet. The xEMUI module has some nice tweaks, but nothing related to that.
Perhaps via appOpsXposed, or via stopReceiverBroadcasts... remove the ability for SystemUI to see the charging related events..?

once i get over pneumonia ill fix my b180 rom. however b180 in general has bad battery drain for me on stock or my rom. will help what i can once i feel better
Have you tried the NotifyClean module in Xposed?
Thanks -n0cturne- for the xEMUI tip. I have been dying to center the clock in EMUI w/o having to use FSBI. FSBI works really well, but slows everything down.

On my rooted device I tried to install Xposed but ran into a boot loop issue after installing the framework so I am inclined to think that isn't a possible route to a solution. The OS notification center is pretty useless in managing app notifications and the battery notification doesn't seem to be tied to a specific app anyway.
Does anyone have any ideas how to disable the notification?

Notifyclean will do what you ask, I have tested it and once I blocked that specific notification, no longer pops up or chimes that the battery is full

NotifyClean only lets you disable the tray notification, not the pop up dropzone notification. . Unless I'm missing something?

It gets rid of the notification in the notification area and blocks the pop-up that occurs when it's full. Just not the "you just plugged your phone in" pop-up

Hi there, i searched all over the net, but all i found were older ways to do it.
Anyway, I am on 8.1 and I have a pending Pie update bugging me (restart now to update), I do not want to do it until the camera issues with gcam are completely resolved.
I have unchecked the "automatic system updates" in developer options, but the update was downloaded before that, so it keeps nagging me to update. I am afraid that if my phone reboots / runs out of battery ill end up with Pie (happened to my gf and brother). Camera means more than pie to me
I am unrooted. Tried searching internal storage for anything mentioning OTA but to no success. Can anyone help me find/delete these downloaded temp files?

Since we have an A/B partition device, maybe the update have already been applied. You can try to disable update app through adb using a computer, but I guess if you reboot, your device will be updated.
