Like in miui there is almost no multitasking and apps killing scenario all the time.
I installed Auto Auto-rotate, and I can't seem to get it to run on background.
What does one need to do to let specific apps to run on background?
Things I've tried:
- Disabled MIUI optimizations on dev settings
- Not Optimized in app settings
- Security->Battery->App battery saver->No restrictions
Turn on autostart for aplication and lock padlock for it in recents
Multitask is pretty good, I can multitask with about 8 apps (including YouTube @1080-60 video on pip, chrome, Instagram, facebook all open at once). I removed all the bloat and after that when no app is open the ram usage is 3.5/6.0 GB.

Lol, I haven't really checked the max apps that can stay in the background. I can bet it can keep more than that. The phone is new, I think this will get better with time. I am particularly happy with my X3, this is the first phone that wasn't hand-me-over.

Multi window
I find the multi window feature of this device kinda disappointing, as with the tall display, it's kind of a bummer that even chrome is not supported, even the reddit app is not supported, and the ram management is too aggressive, youtube and chrome for example constantly closes as I switch back and forth.
And I wish they've kept the double tap recent menu to switch to previous app.

It's really bad. The limitations are such that it would have been better if the option of multi tasking did not exist. I'm glad that I've kept this as my secondary phone and it does the work that I expect it to. Multi tasking was on my list, but like there is in every other phone, I compromised on this feature.

I detect no choppy scrolling so far on this phone. I have the 845/8GB memory version of the NEX and am happy with it so far. The phone is new and I don't have any "FREE" apps on the phone as those apps always seem to slow down performance when collecting information on everything you do. Always read the UELA and make your choice.
In terms of performance, all is great and buttery smooth, however two things are worth noticing: developer settings activates red bar on top of the screen (I wanted to reduce animations time and choose the BT codecs etc), Google Now feed is a bit choppy.

Scrolling is as fast as it gets on this device I use Bromite as browser with Adguard PRO yes impressive scrolling performance en general speed.
The Redbar is idiotic of Vivo but you can remove it with the app autonotifcation.
Google feed is little bit choppy with the Pixel Bridge I use with Rootless Pixel Launcher, but I think it is a problem isolated to just this app and not more.. maybe it can be solved with some of the settings for Vivos security and battery enchantments the seem to make some of the apps missbehave.

Multitasking is ok with two or three small apps, if one of them is a larger game or you start opening more of them, the phone will kill apps even though there is still plenty of free ram.
Tasks in the background are a problem, you have to follow a long list of steps for each app to make it stays running but for now (MIUI 11 11.0.7.0 based on Android 9) it can be done.
However people with other Xiaomi phones that already got the Android 10 and MIUI 12 updates claim that it got worse, it looks like no matter what you do the phone will kill apps in the background, so stuck widgets and missed notifications might be unavoidable. Multitasking also suffers a bit in MIUI 12 from what I've heard but all of this is speculation based on people running software not even available for this phone so we're just have to see.

Also updated to Android 10, app killing and widget freezing can still be resolved easily with proper permissions.
You need to give the app you need to be running in the background every permission from Permissions and Other Permissions, picture-in-picture and drawing over other apps permissions are the most important. Also allow it to Autostart and set it's battery optimization to No Restrictions and if it still gets killed, launch the app, open recents, longpress on it, click the padlock to lock it in memory and don't swipe it out of recents manually.

128GB 6GB version here. Only thing I've seen that's laggy is when swiping down the Google Now on the left hand side of MIUI launcher. Seems to get a bit sticky. No idea what's causing it.... I don't remember Nova Launcher having the same problem.
Any suggestions?

Fixed by updating to the latest Google in Beta
For me it's still lagging with recent google beta app
Nova launcher+3rd party full screen gesture instead of miui system gesture. That's usually what lags in most xiaomi phones. Even using the nav bar will be less laggy

Try updating to the newest version of MIUI Launcher. The version that comes on the phone is old and doesn't include the option to use an app drawer. Here is a the link to the newest version. This is official, and is NOT a beta verison. This is the release version. I'm using it with NO issues and having an app drawer is great.

I am already using the most recent miu launcher and it is still lagging hmm strange
Edit: 11.0.8 update plus most recent google beta app finally fixed it for me. Not entirely perfect, but good enough. Hope it stays that way...

Can someone who has this device please check how it handles background activity?
Does it stop apps or widgets that rely on having processes running in the background, like 3rd party clock, alarm or weather apps and widgets?
Does it have very common nowadays problem with missed or delayed notifications from 3rd party messangers and other apps?
A good test to run is https://dontkillmyapp.com/ but you can check most of it with just having apps open i the background.

It's great. For a budget phone to be this good I'm amazed!
I am still running Android 10 on my Pixel 4a and multitasking is a breeze. My phone's free RAM hovers around 3.9 to 4.1 GB
