Bricked SM-T230 - Galaxy Tab 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all, i have SM-T230 Galaxy Tab4 7.0''. I was installed TWRP and formatted data, for installing a custom rom i was rebooted into recovery mode but device keeps Samsung boot animation. I'm forced reboot for download mode; isn't worked. Tried same for recovery; isn't worked. Now device just stucks at boot animation. Help me please.

Are you sure that you pressed volume (- or +, it depends on what you want to do) home and power buttons enough? Tablet should reboot at least (you should see this when screen gets black for a while)

I don't know what to do then...

I'm not sure but some other android devices won't boot into download mode if battery is low. I don't know if this is case with tab 4, but you could try to charge tab and then try to hold "volume down" + "home" + power.
You could also try to keep holding those for 2 resets, because it could be that your device is "boot looping" to recovery which might have been wrong version and keeps failing.

Brick Scare: Can't Access Recovery From Hardware - Only From Software

So I have this strange issue. I just tried shutting my tablet down so I can reboot to recovery to flash something. (Mind you, I haven't flashed anything in a few days)
So I shutdown and I can't access recovery. It just wont boot. Vol+, Vol- and Power at the same time. I tried going power first, then volume and vice versa but no dice. My volume buttons and power button work perfectly fine while in the ROM.
Now at this point I was like, "Screw it, I'll boot into the ROM" but no.... It wouldn't even turn on. I tried plugging it in and nothing (~70% battery when shutting it off). Then I plugged it into my computer and it showed "Device driver software was not successfully installed" with a device named "QHSUSB_DLOAD".
Quick Google-ing made me think I bricked the device. I ended up just holding on the power button for a good minute and it finally booted into the ROM. I'm still unable to boot into recovery via Power + Volume Buttons... I have to use an app to boot me into it.
Why? What happened / is happening?
I'm not sure with the N7, but with my SGS III that's what happened when it bricked.

Yeah... very strange. I'm able to get into the bootloader without a problem... only through an app.
Can you attempt to reflash your recovery?

Could you double check you are pressing the right buttons based on these instructions:
[Info] Guide to entering safe mode, bootloader, stock recovery
You are NOT supposed to press 3 buttons, Vol+ and Vol- and Power as you described, rather just 2 buttons depending on whether you want recovery or bootloader.

Well now I feel like a total dimwit.
I guess I was so used to my Galaxy Nexus... I did a Google search on how to access the N7 recovery but I guess I glanced over the instructions too quickly.
This thread can be locked, lol.
BTW sorry, I fixed the link.

Getting into recovery

How do I do this? The phone is stuck at the boot animation and i just cannot get it to do anything else, no button combo seems to work, i casnt even get it to power down properly. Never had this much trouble with a phone before.
Hi,
Power OFF your phone then:
HOW TO ENTER RECOVERY
Method 1: Hold the power button + volume down button until the LG image appears. Once it does let go of the buttons then immediately push and hold them again until recovery boots.
NOTE: The method above will arrive at the "hard reset" area, but when choosing hard reset, it will take you to CWM (without actually resetting).

Thank You, what a fiddly process!! Now restoring from backup.
^obviously doesn't understand that you cannot power your phone down properly..
Lg is a little tricky.. But.. In order to hard power down, you must hold the power button until you see the phone power off, but don't let go or it will reboot. Keep holding the power button until you see the lg logo and it will then power down completely.
To get to recovery, hold vol down+power until you see the recovery mode loading. You will see the lg splash screen first but just keeping holding the buttons.. No need to let go and then try pressing them again as the post above me stated...

Are you sure it doesn't actually reset? I'm curious ... because Ive got TWRP and just to avoid that I always reboot into recovery from the rom ... and I've just been scared whenever I see that white screen

Galaxy S4 (i9505) boot problem

Hello,
I create a new thread because all "hard/soft bricked" topic are not the same as me.
I explain, my sister give me a galaxy S4 (i9505 variant) who has fell into the water, the eMMC seems corrupted.
The phone has "boot order" problem:
- If i try to boot normaly (just pressing power button), the phone boot in recovery mode
- If i try to boot while pressing vol down + home + power, the phone boot in "normal mode" (android seem not damaged)
- If i try to boot while pressing vol up + home + power, i show the "samsung galaxy s4" splash screen and the phone reboot in recovery mode
The only way for me to start in download mode is to boot android (using vol down + home + power) and using ADB with "adb reboot download".
I've tryed to flash pit, rom (who is stock rom i9505XXUHOF2) and trying "bootloader update" option of odin, nothing change, the "boot order" is always wrong !
I'm not sure, so i think it's Qualcomm firmware who manage the "boot order", if yes, how can i redefine it?
If no, do you have some informations/solution that can help me to have the phone working "normaly"?
Thank you in advance for your reply.
Kev
Try this: uncheck everything in Odin except f.reset time, flash stock rom, remove USB cable from the phone, remove battery, wait 5 seconds, replace battery, boot into recovery, perform factory wipe, remove battery, try to get into download mode again.
Do the volume buttons work when the phone has booted into android?
Hi audit13,
Thx for your reply
I've tryed what you suggest so boot order is always wrong.
Volume buttons work fine (i need them to boot android).
The problem isn't to get the download mode, so key combinaison to boot method, before phone feel water, keys combinaison was:
power button => boot android
vol down + home + power => download mode
vol up + home + power => recovery mode
And after feel the water:
Power button => recovery mode
Vol down + home + power => android boot
Vol down + vol up => download mode
If it can help, while phone is shutdown and charging, the phone vibrate every 3 seconds and didn't charge, if i just press vol+ and vol- keys during 2~3 seconds, the battery logo appear and the phone start to charge. A second thing i've see, when i'm on android, if i use the "reboot" function, the phone reboot in recovery mode.
It seem that the bootloader didn't boot on the good partition.
I've see an option in odin v3.10.7 called "auto start" and can take value from 1 to 8 (or nothing), do you think this can be a setting that allow user to define the partition number used to start?

Did you try this?
Here’s how to enter Safe Mode on a Galaxy S10 smartphone:
Shut down your Galaxy S10 smartphone
Hold the Power button key and release it when the SAMSUNG logo appears on the display
Right afterward, press and hold the Volume Down button
Hold the Volume Down button until the device boots up, and the Safe Mode text appears in the bottom left corner

Hey there, you can try to do a factory data reset if the phone boots into recovery mode.
NOTE: A factory data reset will wipe the whole device including the internal storage.
To enter into recovery mode, power off the phone. Then, hold the vol up + home + power buttons together till you see the Samsung splash screen. When the splash screen comes, release the power button and continue holding the volume up and home buttons till it boots into recovery.
Once it's in recovery mode, you can use the volume down button to scroll to the 'Wipe Data/ Factory Data Reset' and then hit the power button to select the option.

Okay. Does it boot into Download Mode?
To enter into download mode, power down the phone. Similar to the recovery boot process. Just that instead of the volume up button, you need to hold the volume down button.
If it does boot into download mode. Does it stay on or give you the same problem?

Maybe you can try installing the firmware through Odin. It may fix things. Else it could be an eMMC failure.
It could be a battery problem. I had kinda the same issues (random reboots that became more and more frequent and at some point the phone barely booted). So i ordered a new battery and problem is solved, phone is up and running again. If you can, try another battery just to be sure that this is your case. Also, the worst scenario is that some people reported random reboots when emmc memory failed. I hope this is not your case
