As I was curious I decided to give Samsung another chance to see if they have gotten their **** together since the Touchwiz days. They haven't, they got even worse.
Bloatware to the heavens. Debloatlists exist, but do not remediate resulting broken UX (like dead context menus after removing Samsung bull**** clipboard services).
Dark patterns everywhere, starting with making the Galaxy Store the "root" of their app ecosystem. Can't be used (as in: view even available updates) without submitting a phone number (2FA) and private details via Samsung account, after that, they probably just collect your private info better.
OneUI itself is ****. Like the notification bar as font not following system UI font size and screen scaling settings, for god's sake.
Samsung apps are ****. The design of stock dialer, contacts and calculator are worse than Google's versions. Only the calendar is an improvement as far as I can tell.
Do not buy this garbage. Pick a Sony or iDevice over the infested hellhole that is the Samsung Android ecosystem.

Could not agree more. Coming from a Pixel, im going back to a Pixel...
changing screen width in developer options and switching launcher makes OneUI far more liveable.

Hard to find Vanilla android experiences, but this phone has it. Device specific features are neatly tucked away into their own app, even though it might have been nice to have a settings menu item to launch it.
Loved mine, rooted=)
Find it very good, I hate that it replaced the stock ambient display with the Moto display though. Moto's display is ugly imo, and there's no way of getting stock back. But other than that I have absolutely no qualms about the software on this phone, everything is hidden away in it's neat little app and most of it is easily disabled if you don't like it.

Agree with 2PiSqaured this phone is brilliant love it
Don't like OEM bloatware amazon stuff and voicemail stuff which I not find a way to completely delete even rooted (Froze it with Titanium however)
One of the best OEM skin.
Stock android with tweaks, updates come out quick.
Moto Gestures, my favorite feature. Simple and quick. Amazing
10/10

I just received the phone today and I have to say lg is really giving options! And bringing it closer to pixel. Phone comes with the official pixel launcher! Identical pixel gestures, and a button for Google Assistant. I pushed it even further and swapped lg keyboard with the pixel and I'm loving it
Unpacked it yesterday after getting it for free from AT&T (joined as a 5th line on an existing family plan, so monthly plan is also cheap at $35 unlimited). Really love it so far.
EDIT: Nacho Notch app (doesn't require root) fixes the issues below regarding the inbuilt notch hiding only working with apps that don't try to change the color of the status bar. Also allows the home buttons to be blacked out (the inbuilt software allows you to change colors, but only allows light pastel colors: as mentioned below, this REALLY needs a dark mode).
The color tones are a little cold indoors, so I had to mess with that for a bit to get it just right. Other than that, my only real complaint is that the notch hiding doesn't work perfectly yet. I've set it so the status bar (which matches the depth of the notch) is supposed to always be black (so you basically have an always on status bar and can't see the notch in anything ever). It works on _most_ apps, but some key apps (like chrome) override the setting somehow so the status bar takes on the color it chooses, which makes the notch visible. I also wish I could make the home keys shorter to exactly match where the screen starts to curve (my goal is a perfectly rectangular main screen that still uses all screen real estate). I'm hoping these issues will be addressed in an update or custom rom.
Also needs a dark mode.
Everything else seems pretty great thus far.
So it's 2019 in typing this on my lg g6 which I preordered just over 2 years ago. It's been a REALLY solid phone besides 1 issue where I sent it back to to charging port no longer fast charging I NEVER had any issue with it. I bought it coming from my lg g3 which I loved after having came from a gs4. Well my g6 being 2 years old and basically truly outdated I've got that itch to hold something new and feel excited about my phone again. I've done different launchers and themes along with super slim cases and overly large cases just to make it feel different. It's been a great device well today I received my lg g8 thinq. I have to say that over all the 6.1" screen is lovely to look at and decent to hold. But using the software feature on a 2019 "flagship device" to hide a 2018 notch sucks and basically brings the device back to 5.8" screen so not much of a upgrade. Clearly the AMOLED vs the LCD change is instantly noticeable. IMO over saturated and fake but still nice looking. The skin is decent seemingly a Google launcher rip off with the LG UI over it slowing it down of course. Had it up and running for about 14 hours no2 and while it's not completely set up and back to how I like my phones to be I have to say. It's a rather decently disappointing "upgrade" from my g6.
Most likely will be sending it back but on a got a week return window & I installed s screen protector already so I'll rock it til mid week and test what I can before sending it back. I truly don't think this is a 2019 device at all. Let alone since I'm on Verizon and it'll NEVER be rooted even for exposed modules. Sad face for sure.
At this moment if anyone with a 2017 or newer device asked me if they should buy a g8 I'd have to tell them no. And being that I'm truly a LG fan boy that saddens me
Great Phone!
I've only had my LG G8 for two days but it has already impressed me as the best phone I've ever owned (and, until recently, I owned a Samsung Galaxy S10+). The display on the G8 rivals the best I've seen on Samsung phones, the fingerprint sensor is on the back where I prefer it and it works every time (as does the face unlock), battery life has been outstanding, and streaming to my hearing aids has been flawless, which was not the case with my S10+. By the way, I tried a phone call without my hearing aids and I could hear the caller clearly with the Crystal Sound OLED Speaker. I haven't used the hand gestures and I don't plan to. For me, those are gimmicks and, based on the reviews I've seen, they work about as well as the in-screen fingerprint sensor on the S10+ (which didn't work well for me). Again, I've only had the G8 for two days but I'm very impressed so far.

I questioned if I could keep this device knowing other phones have it and this one doesn't. Until I found this...
Settings > Accessibility > Vision > High contrast screen
And this mode doesn't simply invert colors like the iPhone or other poorly implemented high contrast modes do. It's actually near perfect. It doesn't change certain apps (i.e. calendar, calculator, etc.) and notifications underneath the panel are still white, but overall, I'm very happy with the device now. I was able to uninstall all the terrible themes I was trying just to darken things up a bit.
I'm surprised they buried this in the accessibility settings. They should definitely make it easier to find.
Enjoy!

No kidding! It works very well, thank you. I'm not a huge fan of the default orange theme it imposes, but there's probably a way to change that also buried deep in the settings (it's very strange indeed that this is so hidden, dark mode is such a common request now, and can have a major impact on battery life, especially with an OLED).
my only complaint is the shutter sound on the camera. yeah, you can download other camera apps and turn volume off but come on. turn it off. so stupid
Almost perfect

I've used both the P40 pro and P40 pro+ at the same time.
They're identical in build and even though the + models are backed in Ceramic rather than Glass, you can't distinguish between them unless you get the white ceramic. Black ceramic is identical to the black glass finish.
The only other differences are the internal memory size and the camera setup.
I'm not even sure yet if the plus' camera setup and double storage is worth the extra £500.
Looking back, I'm not sure what got into me when I bought the P40 Pro+, although there are some great things about it.
The cameras are excellent, and I'd rate them way higher than Apple's offerings. The overall feel is nice, and the ceramic back is worthy of a flagship. Overall, the hardware is where this phone shines.
On the software side, I don't even care about the lack of Google stuff so much, m apart from access to the Play Store, which does make life more difficult and less secure. What really gets me, though, is just that: security issues. I've never owned a phone that is so greedy with permissions and sending data to servers all over the globe. I installed a firewall and haven't dared use the phone as my daily device since.
If anyone wants more info on this, I'll be happy to share.

ive got the p40 pro and was thinking of upgrading to the plus for the extra spec in camera ,storage and performance. after everything started kicking off in the US and UK i did my research and found that they have a certification in data security (CSA Star i think), plus the guy in my local Store told me about the 4 different checks they do on the AppGallery apps i just tend to now watch the apps i download.

Thanks for the links! I'm not so worried about the apps so much as just the amount of data trying to leave my phone to a variety of IP addresses. Might be an Android thing, though - I've been in the Apple ecosystem since the Galaxy S3 so I'm readjusting. The Pro+ really ticks a lot of boxes for me, now I've just got to secure it properly.
The Huawei P40 series adopts a new design that combines technology and fashion. The four-curved overflow screen looks full of tension, as if the edge of the fluid is full without overflow, and the visual perception is very good. The Huawei P40 series also uses a huge streamlined R angle to bring Better grip and excellent aesthetic form.

Most chinese devices, if not all, send huge ammounts of data, even if let untouched the whole day, if you install a firewall like adguard, you can see the insane number of connections to a very huge list of ip, some recognizable, others not so, the problem, apart from the privacy, is the data charges in the monthly bill, this behaviour is a curse for users of chinese devices, not to mention the embedded ads some brands unashamedly put in their firmwares, but, in the end, who wants/likes/desires the chinese way of things, well… there it is

Right, there's not been much activity on here so thought I'd kick it off. I received this phone a few days ago and have had a few days to play with it so thought I'd share my thoughts.
I came from a Samsung S9 so one of the first things that I noticed was the display seemed to lack saturation. I know this is because Samsung are generally over-saturated but I've never minded that, so to go to this display was a little bit disappointing. It's still a very good display I'm getting more and more used to but just worth noting if you also consider buying and you have a Samsung.
The next thing I was a bit disappointed with was the customisation options for the Home and App Drawer screens, there is very little of it. You can't have folders in the App Drawer and the Home Screen can only be 4 x 6 or 5 x 6 (I prefer 4 x 5) and you can change the Icon style but not the size which leaves the Apps on the Homescreen looking very small to me. An aftermarket launcher soon sorts this out though so not really the end of the world.
I'm generally pleased with this phone but coming from a Samsung with its wealth of options I find the lack of such on this phone sometimes frustrating. Some seem to be basic things as well which can add to the frustration. For example you can only turn the ringtone on or off from the Status Bar Shortcuts, you can’t change the vibration too. You need to go into the settings unlike the S9 where you could toggle between the 3 with the button.
There's plenty to like about this phone and the only things I've not liked have been software related so hopefully this will be changed in future updates. Things like there being no real Lock-screen customisation options (I used to have a ‘If You Find This Phone’ message on my S9) and the size of the notification icons on the LS is ridiculous, you can't even tell what app they're from they are that small.
Enough of the negatives though as there are still plenty of positives about this one of which is the Lock-screen Gestures. Being able to swipe an O to open the camera and other similar shortcuts is a very nice touch. The front facing camera is very sharp and the display and sound for watching videos is great.
I'd never heard of Oppo before but after trying one I believe it has a lot of potential to do well in the UK as long as the software is drastically improved in the near future. Any customers they get are more likely to come from the likes of people used to Samsung phones (which now seem to just be getting dearer) so not having basic options these customers are used to isn’t ideal.
The face unlock recognition and in screen Fingerprint sensor are spot on as are the Wide, Normal and Macro lenses.
One thing I would also suggest if you are reading this to consider a purchase and you are on a Samsung device is see if you can get a Samsung A71 at a similar price. I wasn’t aware of this very similar phone when I bought it and is probably more suitable to someone already on Samsung. The A71s I’ve seen are generally slightly more expensive on contract though so if you don’t want to pay the extra and are happy with a few small niggles you are getting a very good phone for your money with the X2.

Hi ,
i have a Samsung S9 too.
I'am disappoint about you about Fotocamera. For me the samsung is more that Oppo. The IOS Samsung give the pics a more quality and stability.
I'am trying the GCAM on my OPPO and i had a little bit step up.
In general I like the Oppo, it's have poorer materials than samsung, but it's more fast and the battery is more than S9.

To be honest I sent this phone back shortly after writing this and watching some Samsung A71 reviews and swapped for that.
One of the best things I've ever done. Back to the Samsung features I'd missed at the same price point. The Oppo fingerprint scanner started playing up too just before I did even though it was only a week old.
A decent enough phone with a good spec but the software has some catching up to do with Samsung.

The surface is in the usual HTC Sense, which is relatively close to native Android, so very usable.
It's a shame that there was an disimprovement in the navigation. You can choose between adjustable gestures or buttons. But then as a 3 button variant with nothing to be adjusted (exept hide)! Too bad, with the U12 + I was able to set 4 with free assignment, that was really pleasant.
The notification LED, which now probably only shines in white, could be a bit brighter - so it doesn't attract a lot of attention. As an improvement, however, it now flashes when a notification occurs during loading.
What I REALLY miss is HTC Mail! There is only Gmail with it. OK, I thought, I'll try Outlook .... Microsoft: are you serious? Only 1 month email synchronization? Impossible to change that or to look for elements on the server? What should you do with it? At HTC: Please !!!! Please bring mail back! You're welcome! At least as a download if not preinstalled!
Otherwise, there is little pre-installed. Often referred to as bloatware.
Unfortunately the transfer tool did not work, but that was probably due to my 3 years old U12 + installation, which could not be transferred to the U19e on a trial basis. Newly set up from U20 to U19e, it then ran without any problems. It's a shame: the HTC backup and restore has been discontinued, that might have worked as a workaround ...
All in all, as an old HTC user, I feel at home.
I confirm Groby's judgment, I confirm the native nature of the software which looks a lot like a lineageos, very well done, anyway. I am from a HTC m9, i am satisfied with this htc
