with my previous phone (LG G3) it was possible to block calls from groups (friends, family, work etc.)
i am running android 10 on my oneplus5. is it possible to do this? if not, which app would you suggest?
on OOS direct blocking is not available that way. Moreover, using a 3rd party app, would be risking your contact details being leaked.

Hi,
Prior to 4.2.2 Android gave me the option to use a different dialer/phone app as default when making calls (from e.g. a contact card). This could be Skype, or Lynch for instance, the same way messaging allows me to have Whatsapp as default instead of SMS. This option has now gone away which is a huge irritant to me. Does anyone know if there is a way to get this functionality back?
I have a brilliant ap that routes all outgoing calls through our company's cloud PBX (thereby making international calling dirt cheap), but it needs to grab the call as it is being made. It's killing me that ths feature has gone away...
Any help would be appreciated,
M
Working with the latest Omega ROM, (Ver 11, 4.2.2), and I had to choose my dialer (installed Dialer one).
Usually when I working with SIP dialer, it won;t show in the default program, just integrate with the dialer (after dialing its ask you what service to use - phone or SIP).

Have you tried to clear the phone defaults from application manager?

Hey guys. We just upgraded from note 4 phones to the s7 edge.... love it so far, btw!
I read nougat added spam caller reporting, but when we get spam callers the only option in info is to block them, not report them.
We are on verizon, and it looks yo me like they are sort of forcing us to buy into their caller is service for this functionality.
Is that the case, or is there a download of the vanilla nougat dialer we can use to replace the stock dialer if that restored that functionality?
I know this doesn't directly answer your question but I use an app called Hiya. It works as advertised.
Its odd no one knows other than install another app..
It is all about the blocking app being able to hangup. Somehow 7 prevents this so all blockers must let the blocked caller go to voicemail. Thanks Google! Did they want the on board blocking to not look as pathetic as really is?
I am looking into Tasker as work around but I am a noob at that app. It may also not work there at all either.
My Googling seems to reveal it being device independent.
So if blocking then 7 forces them to VM! What a letdown this is.
I have voicemail switched off permanently, root call blocker work as a charm.

I have the ..01 phone & only get to have a warranty.
The stock dialer app allows calls to be blocked under call details. thats the only option but it works for me.
Native call block
If your mzp is up to date, then you should have native call block support in dialer settings. If not, you can use Google dialer and use that as your default dialer.
The best premium apps have voicemail blocking by virtue of the answer & hangup ability.
The stock app/dialer does not offer this feature. It is lame featureless facility.
Both on my old Sony Xperia M4 Aqua and on my new HTC 10, I've used a method that always worked (Lollipop on the M4 Aqua, Nougat/Oreo on the HTC 10).
- Root;
- Install Xposed Installer;
- Install GIN Call Blacklist from the Xposed Module Database (in app, installs the Pro version).
In neither of the two phones I was able to block private calls. I could block individual numbers and names, but private numbers were a no-go.
With GIN Call Blacklist, supported by its Xposed module, those private calls are gone. But there's still something that annoys me.
On the M4 Aqua, I wouldn't even be notified whenever a private call was blocked. Now, on the HTC 10 (Oreo), despite my efforts, I always get a dialer notification that a private call was blocked.
The phone vibrates for a second and shows the notification, but it happens so fast that the ringtone has no time to play.
Despite that, it works. That's that matters. Although it hasn't been updated since 2015.

what's up guys, I have a quick question about call blocking on Oreo. I use this root call blocking app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.rootcallblocker.beta&hl=en
Which has always worked but now on Android 8.0 it can no longer function, like many other root call blocking apps. It says in the description:
"As of Android 8, root blocking is not possible and RCB will default to no root mode, which does not block SMS at all. There are specialized apps that will do that better than RCB set as the default messaging app."
Since this change, all you are able to do is forward the call to your voicemail, you are not able to block any calls at all.
I researched and other apps say the exact same thing so it's not a problem with the app but it seems android changed the way it handles incoming calls.
My question is do you think android will stay like this and we won't be able to block calls like in previous versions of android or maybe this is just a temporary change?
Why an external application to block calls and sms ? After all, Oreo 8.0 has built-in blocking calls and sms in the system.
Oreo blocks sms and calls
Call Blocker is a alternative that works also and works well
No root needed

Hey guys, on my previous phone (LG V30) I was able to block calls depending on what the phone number started with. For instance, I want to block all calls from a specific area code + prefix, but I'm unable to figure out how to do this on the S10+. Is there a way without using a third part app? I can only find the option to block entire numbers and I'm not about to enter in all 10000 numbers!
I haven't seen a way yet but the third party app you don't wanna use would be Me. Number. I haven't seen any ads yet either so it's probably worth trying.
