I kinda messed up! The camera in my wife's Pixel Experience 10 ROM was not working and I thought I'll install another ROM and check. Using TWRP, I tried a couple of ROMs by formatting system, cache and dalvik (not data as I was testing). However, I forgot to take EFS + Persist backup!
Now, I could not get a network (VoLTE or otherwise) which was working fine before. I was scared thinking I might have bricked the device but I saw a backup of a persist image in my TWRP folder (backup_[data]_persist.img). Phew! I guess I had taken the backup when I initially installed the PE ROM and used it to get VoLTE afterwards.
As I still have IMEI intact for both the SIMs, I thought of restoring the persist.img. But I am unable to figure out how to do so! I tried restoring it to the system partition and that overwrites the OS. Can someone please help me do this correctly? I have searched XDA and Google but I did not get a proper solution. I will really appreciate it. TIA.
Update: Issue resolved! Somehow VoLTE started working. So, I just took a normal EFS + Persist backup using TWRP.

Actually it won't cause any issue for restoration of presist, but if you want to double sure take a backup of EFS and persist with this command.
Code:
Use the following command to create a backup and save it at /sdcard/persist.img:
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/persist of=/sdcard/persist.img
To restore use the following command:
dd if=/sdcard/persist.img of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/persist
If you have saved a backup using different name then use that name instead.

I did not backup EFS & Persist since I never knew it might be required in future. Now my LTE, Volte, wifi calling functions are not working, also the IMS status says "not registered". What solution will you suggest? Also, can EFS & persist backup of another Moto g5 plus be used? If so, can you share yours.

Never flash someone else persist, doing that just make your device mess. And please provide some more information, like which ROM? How it happened?

I was on untouched stock Oreo 8.1 and clean flashed Pixel Experience 10 rom using twrp & nothing else. Now on PE 10 rom, I have issues with Volte, Lte/4G & wifi calling, IMS status(not registered), however I have my IMEI no intact. LTE/4g sign keeps blinking i.e doesn't remain stable, I tried 4g Jio and airtel 4g sims, unable to make/receive calls or even use data. While all services with BSNL sim which uses H/H+ signal works fine.

The APNs are default and looks ok for 4g connectivity, however plz share me any specific changes in APN for 4G sims for my type of issue. (Currently it seems 4G services are not working at all even though the sims are able to catch LTE/4G network.)

After many trials, I found that the problem is only with Jio sim(all other sims are working fine and I am able to use all services Volte, lte, data & calling). While with Jio, now I am able to use its 4G data service, but unable to make/receive calls & SMS.

So, now you need to install stock ROM, get the volte working on stock then take a backup of EFS and persist in stock. Install custom ROM and check if Jio sim working, if not, restore the backup of EFS and persist. Jio sim will start working.

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
This guide is intended for those individuals who can not use 3g or LTE but 2g works perfectly for them or they have lost their network and flashing different radios does not help
To check if you have this problem, go to settings>more>Mobile Network>Manual Search
You should have GSM / WDCMA/LTE or others depending on your network from all networks in your area.
What do you need :
*Drivers installed
*USB debugging (enable by going into settings>software information> tap on build number 10 times and developer options will appear in settings at the end. Enable USB debugging from there)
*ROOT
*QPST (QPST DOWNLOAD) LINK2
*EFS BACKUP TOOL (EFS BACKUP THREAD)
* Device specific backup of QCN (FIND IT YOURSELF AS IT WILL CHANGE YOUR IMEI TOO)
*DIAG MODE ENABLED
This is how to enable diag mode via platform tools using ADB on LG devices
Code:
adb shell
su
echo 1 > /sys/devices/platform/lg_diag_cmd/diag_enable
setprop sys.usb.config acm,diag,mtp,adb
It is preferred to clear these partitions by using these commands and restart your phone before flashing qcn files. I wiped wrong partitions (tz)using these commands and I got a HARD BRICK. YES A HARD BRICK so be very careful
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p21
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p24
Restore by, where XX is the number and YY name of partition
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/[B]mmcblk0pXX/B] of=/sdcard/[B]YY[/B].epb
Example
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p9 of=/sdcard/system.img
However, you can go ahead and clear these partitions only if you had a previous backup by blocks like EFS FILE EXPLORER. modemst1, modemst2, fsg, fsc, dbi, ddr, pad
Check which partition corresponds to which block by
Code:
ls -al /dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name
Once your device is connected, drivers and software installed,
You may need to first go to QPSTConfig which is located at QPST > Bin. There you will need to select port which will show your snapdragon model.
Go to QPST > Bin> QPSTServer.exe
1.A globe would appear in taskbar. Click on it and select software download.
2.Select port of your diagnostic mode in restore tab of software download
3. Once in software download, backup your current QCN (just as a backup to be safe)
4. Restore the QCN you found from google. Make sure it is device specific (use d850 QCN for d850 only)
5. Device would restart and automatically start to search 3g and LTE signals
Good luck
My original QCN was 31kb which clearly showed lost of data but the one that worked was about 500kb.
Lastly there are other methods to restore as well which I will look into so I can post in more details so your IMEI does not change.
Edit: You can do it by changing NV VALUE of 457 to your default value to keep your imei number as well
I will try to backup my radio partitions if someone needs help to fix their network issues or other possible solutions that could be found
HOW TO REVERT YOUR IMEI BACK TO ORIGINAL
1. Download EFS Professional. FROM HERE
2. Make sure you are rooted and busy box working.
3. Use commands as stated above to boot your phone in DIAG mode. This can be done anytime after connecting your phone to the PC.
4. Go to Qualcomm NV tools
5. Choose right port and connect.
6 Go to Secure Ops. tab and change imei from there. Make sure you have a full backup.
If this fails, you can use QXDM and go to NV tools and manually change your IMEI back to its real value. You will need to go to NV Values tab and then on side tab choose Security from All, and then change IMEI number to your real one. You can check details how to change values in QXDM in futher reading below. Samsung S5 thread explains it really well.
If you still are not sure, you can use QPST software. Go to NV manager and find your IMEI number after connecting the phone in diag mode. Usually it is 550 or 457 value.
Use Imei converter from attached files below and insert the converted values.
Good Luck

FOR BEST RESULTS WHICH I FOUND HAD MORE SUCCESS WITH
1. First understand the problem fully here
2. Flash a working qcn to your device
3. Wipe partitions as commands given above
4. restart
5. Flash a working qcn on it again. Preferably the same one
6. Check if you get signals now, if not then do a factory reset and see
Profit ? No
7. Install TOT stock 4.4.2 or Lollipop (I had more success with Lollipop)
8. Install a qcn from another device. Just to break all your signals (do at your own risk) I flashed a D855 qcn to my d850
9. Restart and wipe partitions
10. Reflashed working Qcn again
Profit ? No
It did not work till here so I moved to stock lollipop by flashing zip in TWRP. If you have TOT method, that is better.
So I went to flash Lollipop stock with modem of D850. (because it was zip and did not include modem. In TOT/ KDZ all partitions are flashed so you do not need to flash modem separately) So i wiped partitions again and then I flashed QCN using cracked version of Z3x Lg Tools twice. (same qcn but two times) and then restarted.
It restored everything back. Everything came to work fine

3. Select 3 partitions
backup modem, modemst1 and modemst2 and upload it for me so I can try to restore the settings to see if that works.
MAKE SURE YOU WRITE YOUR DEVICE MODEL when attaching those mentioned partitions AND DOUBLE CHECK IT AS FLASHING WRONG radios can permanently damage your device.
DEVICE I FIXED WAS D850 ATT Variant and had success with other variants as well

I have attached a D855 qcn with null imei. You will need to change your imei yourself which you can find by removing your battery. Make sure to make a backup before trying anything and I WILL BE NOT RESPONSIBLE
HISTORY --- JUST TO COMPARE IF YOU HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEM
hi there,
I am working to fix the problem many users have faced and therefore trying to find possible solutions. I need some partition images from you guys if you can provide me so I can try to fix the issues.
THE PROBLEM AND HOW IT STARTED :
I have got a D850 which I am using in Europe. The problem started when I inserted an LTE enabled sim and went to hidden menu to change my mode to LTE only, I was on Fulmics Rom 2.7 Lollipop at that time. Before that, ii network search, I could see all WCDMA, GSM and LTE bands used by different providers by manual search.
After changing it to LTE only, I could not see any signal bars and it started searching. As I was in an area where LTE signals were weak, so I thought maybe I need to change back to GSM/WCDMA/LTE from settings. Signals returned to normal but only to gsm. LTE and 3G were lost as searching for networks did not help at all.
I tinkered with hidden menu and selected GSM/WCDMA/LTE ( 3845#*850# ) from hidden menu
and
used this ( *#*#4636#*#* ) to change back to GSM/WCDMA/LTE from another hidden menu.
It didnot help.
I flashed different modems (one from kitkat and two versions from Lollipop) but that didnot help either.
I reverted back to KITKAT using TOT method and the WCDMA and LTE were lost forever when i tried to search manually. So I made an EFS backup and started tinkering with hidden method.
Actually I was not expecting that the values would be affected by using the hidden menu to fix my network to LTE only.
I then backup my EFS and tinkered with hidden menu and i was successful in bringing back LTE, however, I was stuck with no 3g.
Using build prop editor, I changed my operator from ATT to OPEN (as ATT does not show default selection menu for GSM/WCDMA/LTE in settings/ both hidden menus) which enabled the option by which I could changed my preferred network type.
In hidden menu, I just enabled VoLTE in LTE > Modem Settings > VoLTE On which brought back LTE.
Next I installed QPST & QXDM to check my NV values and IMEI.
All of those were perfectly fine. No problem at all.
Strangely all the NV values are right. I restored my EFS to old state where I didnot have LTE or 3g. The LTE was gone again.
I again enabled VoLTE from hidden menu and LTE came back.
See attached image for reference.
POSSIBLE SOLUTION :
I think the problem lies in ATT settings as it has preset operator settings which changes from GSM to WCDMA to LTE depending on its values.
Once I selected LTE only, I disabled the WCDMA and somehow broke the AT&T preset settings as you can not change preferred network from settings like D855 or other models. Somehow we need to re-enable these and one possible way would be to flash modemst 1 and modemst 2 from backup.
Please help me find the possible solution
PS : For all those who are wondering if i tried other sims and tried to use 4g/3g on another device. Yes i did and the problem is only in D850
I also made a proper working APN. Plus I check which network I am on by using *#*#4636#*#*
dd if=/home/med/Desktop/tz.img of=/dev/sdb6

People who can not flash QCN need to break their Lg lock which is done by flashing someone else Twrp backup of same device on your phone. After this, you will be able to flash QCN without issues

Google depending on your device model.
D850 qcn
D855 qcn download
Or something on the lines of above
I had two at&t g3. (Both lost their qcn) , one d855 and now I'm using third d850. ( I almost lost qcn on this one too)
I realise that qcn is easily lost on d850 model as even rooting via kingroot can simply damage qcn.
I had to sell all others. Previous models qcn didnt enable 4g for me , however, i flashed these to older device and 4g started to work. And i flashed older qcn to this device and 4g stopped working.
So make sure you find a qcn which enables 4g with 3g n 2g.
I would suggest go to a tech guy in your area who works with unlocking phones and they usually use some kind of boxes to flash qcn.
Another way could be you request a friend whose 4g is working to make a backup and share it with you.
Lastly, find it online and flash it yourself.
You can also request NV values which wouldnt change imei (as long as you change the NV 457 value to 0)
Inbox me for more help.
Good luck
My imei is already 0 and the model is d850 and body is of d855
The problem is that I can't use 3g on it
2g and 4g works fine

What you need to do is flash a QCN. I can try to repair your imei number and send you back.
What I will need is your imei number(remove your battery and see under it), model number and your qcn file. Make sure you inbox me these details and I will try to repair it for you.
Good Luck

Also, the best thing would be that you send me your qcn and i try to repair it and send it to you back,

MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR QCN. either using QPST or using TWRP (TWRP from xda as it can also backup EFS)
I flashed many and i had none problems. As long as you do have a backup to go back to. There is no problem.
PS : Share your qcn and maybe I can try to repair it. I got NV values from my device.
If your friend has the same device. Grab qcn from him too and we can work something out as well

You can also request NV values which wouldnt change imei
Inbox me for more help.
PS : i have come up with severe viral conjuctivitis so i might not be able to help you till it clears up.
Good luck

Hi I have a D855 LG G3 and I have the same exact problem, my 2G works perfectly fine but I am no longer able to access LTE or 3g (signal shuts down when I switch to 3g or LTE mode, Service is disabled).
My IMEI is fine and is not lost... I can see it in About screen, I have tried installing different lollipop modems and even downgraded to Lollipop and Kitkat rom and even tried Cyanogenmod 12.1, I never had the signal back on.
Can you please share the LG D855 QCN? I have no idea where to get it, googling has not gotten me anywhere, I saw a SINGLE site where I could download it but it had a password.

Well, i will tell you step by step how to make a backup of QCN and how to flash QCN. It will be fine.
How did you manage to back it up ?
Mate you sent me EFS which means I need to use it on my device and then fix it and then send you.
Can you manage a QCN ?
It is very easy. Let me get back to you by night but I WILL PREFER QCN

I'm still getting 4G LTE signals but it seems that I cannot get any data at all (any website can't load). Will this help solve it?
I was trying to force 3G in my OP2 and used *#*#4636#*#* to enter testing menu.
Under that menu, I accidentally selected some other radio band and now one sim( SIM 2) is disabled(unable to find network).
I tried resetting phone to factory setting, but it didn't helped.
Also updated to latest OxygenOS 2.2.1, still one sim is disabled.
Please help....

Flash OxygenOS Zip via Stock Recovery
---------- Post added at 09:37 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:37 AM ----------
Before Flash Remember to Wipe All the Data
Hi,
My OnePlus 2 was running Exodus ROM, which had 2 Sim's: Vodafone (2G/3G) & other Jio (Only 4G/LTE).
I read a blog, that In order to increase the download speed from the Jio SIM, preferred LTE Band should be switched (from 3 to 40).
So, I pressed *#*#4636#*#*, >> Phone Info page >> three dot menu >> select radio band >> SELECTED Band mode 40.
Immediately after that,
Vodafone Sim stopped working in any of the SIM-Slots, But Jio sim (4G) was working in both the slots.
*****
Then I ran these commands in fastboot mode:
"fastboot erase modemst1 "
"fastboot erase modemst2 "
"fastboot erase cache"
Immediately, Both the SIM slots stopped working.
*****
Then I flashed "new-modem.zip" from benschhold (https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=24407100847293158)
which makes SIM-Slot-1 work with both Vodafone & Jio,
But SIM-Slot-2 only detects the sim, but with 0 network bars i.e. "No service| Vodafone"
*****
Clean flashed OOS 3.0.2 via TWRP, but SIM-Slot-2 = "No service| Vodafone".
I tried to manually search for networks,
It shows all the networks 2G & 3G in my city.
But connecting to Vodafone network from the list, always fails.
I think the latching (on to network) mechanism of SIM-slot 2, is faulty.
*****
Then clean flashed Exodus 29/8 build, but no fix.
Later, dirty flashed Exodus 31/8 build, which was supposed to flash the correct radio/modem/baseband on my OnePlus 2, but SIM-Slot-2, still doesn't let the SIM latch on to the network.
*****
Today, flashed "old-modem.zip" from benschhold, which resulted in phone stuck in boot loop.
Started OnePlus 2 Toolbox on PC, & flashed TWRP 2.8.7.0 via fastboot mode.
,successfully booted in TWRP 2.8.7.0 recovery.
flashed "new+modem.zip" (by benschhold).
Phone is working again, but SIM-Slot-2 = "No service| Vodafone".

Will stock reset to OOS 3.0.2 from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62973446&postcount=2
fix this SIM-Slot-2 / EFS / Modem problem ?
Also, while stock reset, can this happen without formatting the internal storage ?
As I have 35+ GB of pics/music/data, which will take a lot of time to backup !

Stock Reset to OOS 3.0.2 might fix your issue but it will completely wipe your phone so you'll need to backup anything you want to keep first.
Not sure why you wiped your EFS partitions without taking a backup first...

Thanks for replying back.
I'm downloading your fastboot.zip file (1.13 GB) right now (does the zip file also contain all steps, to flash correctly ?).
You mentioned in that post, that we can add REM command in .bat file to avoid format to data partition, can this be done with internal storage too ?
Also, I don't know what is EFS partition, & did not knew I had to back it up, before flashing custom ROM.
Anyways, can you tell, out of all the steps I did.
Which step actually made the SIM-Slot-2, to behave in this way ?
Was it, the "erase modemst1 & modemst2" in fastboot ?
Or
flashing new or old modem zip of benschhold ?
As at first step, selecting the band 40, only made the Vodafone SIM not work, but the both the SIM-slots were still working fine with Jio sim.
& Erasing modem st1 & st2, made both SIM-Slots stopped working.
& flashing new-modem.zip, actually made SIM-slot-1 work again (with both Vodafone & Jio),
Then why did this not work with SIM-Slot-2 ?
Logically, whatever made SIM-Slot-1 work, should also work for SIM-Slot-2 too (with slight modifications) ?
Will flashing a good/proper modem.zip make the sim-slot-2 work again ?
Rather than me, wiping my phone to OOS ?
What do you think ?

I don't think the fastboot zip will solve your problem as it only contains the rom and firmware. I'm not sure that even the Stock Reset to OOS 3.0.2 tool will either but it's worth a go.
Erasing modemst1 & modemst2 with fastboot is what's caused your problem but I'm not sure how to solve it.

I don't think he can fix that.
EFS has the information about the IMEI of a phone as far as I know.
No IMEI = No signal
A dual SIM phone has two IMEIs, and that probably explains why one is working after restoring one EFS...

But I did not restore any EFS,
then how come IMEI 1, is working fine, even after erase command,
I checked IMEI 2 = 0.
& I checked a lot of OnePlus One forums. (OnePlus 2 has a lot less threads)
It's mentioned many times, that erasing modemst1 modemst2, does not erase the actual IMEI info from phone. (As it's stored in some other deep partitions).
Modemst1 modemst2, are supposed to rebuild themselves, after they are erased.
Correct me, if I'm wrong.

On some devices they're rebuilt from a backup in the fsg partition but it looks like this doesn't work properly for SIM2 on the OP2.
I see you've posted this in a couple of threads in the OP forums too! Good luck - there are very few people over there that know what they're talking about so be careful before trying anything that anyone suggests.

Hi @osr.arora,
Unfortunately I do not think the stock reset will help you with this issue (as those partitions are not at all touched by the OnePlus Stock Reset), however I would strongly suggest you to take a backup and reset the device as a starting point.
Do you have a nandroid backup of your device (all partitions)? Even if it is an old one, try restoring them.
Sorry but I am out of ideas for getting this sorted.

No, that's for the OnePlus One - you'll end up bricking your phone if you use tools built specifically for another device.

Hi,
Could you tag the names of those few people, who have the actual know-how of technical issues.
LOL, I guess no one has solved this issue till now. Every thread regarding this issue on every site remains unanswered . I request the developers to try finding a solution to this problem. All the best ppl.
wrong radio band issue
Even I changed the band to band 40 however, I am getting the networks on both the Sim one being Jio and other being Vodafone. But the issue is I am not able to make calls from my vodafone number. There is no problem with incoming calls but out bound calls are not happening. JIO is working fine on both sim slots. Vodafone giving problem no matter if I switch the sim slots as well.
Many of you might have seen that after flashing custom ROMs and rebooting the phone with that ROM, Volte worked fine, but as soon as you flash Magisk Root and reboot again, volte is lost and further reboots doesn't seem fix it.
Working around my phone and in magisk I found a temporary solution to recover volte for calls.
***Solution***
After flashing Magisk Root, reboot your phone normally, you won't see Volte option for calls, now all you have to do is open Magisk Manager and swipe from left and look for "Magisk Hide", click on it (you'll see lots of system files), in the search bar search for 'phone services', phone services option will come up with a checkbox, click on that checkbox, your network will reset for a few second and will be back with Volte working.
I've attached some screenshots for better understanding.
**note that after every reboot you'll have to perform this procedure again n again to gain volte**
HOPE THIS HELPS Hit Thanks
Which ROM you are using right now.?
Did you flashed stock ROM.? because by flashing stock ROM IMEI shows "0", however I have recover IMEI but I won't able to get back volte.

Earlier I was using Oreo Custom Rom (FireHound) then I went back to stock (at this moment the IMEI lost).. right now I'm using AtomicOs Oreo.
If you want to use VoLte do the steps which I posted above regarding magisk. Hope that helps.
Well, my friend, I think Volte worked for me even if I didn't follow the above steps. Maybe regaining LTE is the main part. Nice tuto by the way.
ROM: Atomic OS latest
Not working
I flashed stock with 64 bit recovery installed, which, I think, is the reason of IMEI lost. (I flashed stock to re-gain VoLte , 4g was working fine)
But soon after booting stock, IMEI went to 0 or NA in many cases.
Going back to any 8.1 ROM gets back previous imei and 3g but 4g or volte. This story is going on since past 2 months.
And, this method doesnt do anything except resetting network and finding only 3g again.

Yes this method doesn't works if IMEI is lost.. I have wrote this method before IMEI lost not after the IMEI 0.
This will only work for people who still haven't lost their imei and if after flashing VoLte doesn't works.

Hello, everyone! This is my first post on XDA so sorry if it ain't in the right place.
So... What I did is manually updated my S8 to Android 9 through Odin but it isn't receiving signal and it shows that I'm not registered on network. I already tried everything I could but I can't solve this issue. Can someone help me?
Edit: my phone was working perfectly before I ruined it all.
IMEI ok, signal ok, it's not a hardware problem. I've tried configuring APNs and the ROM is the correct for my phone, country and carrier. I just don't know what is wrong. Thanks for all the replies
Try these:
Reconfigure APN's in the cellular data settings.
Check if your phone has IMEI, if you flash-all you may also lose the EFS partition. If so you have to restore your EFS partition backup.
If you flashed the wrong carrier's android, you'll have to flash the correct one. For example your phone is T-Mobile, but you flashed AT&T version.
Goodluck.

Hello! Thanks for commenting.
I tried configuring APNs but it still not working.
I'm sure I flashed the correct ROM.
I think I lost the EFS partition as you say, since I didn't backed up anything (I'm feeling silly). How do I restore my EFS partition? Thanks again!

I tried configuring APNs but it still not working.
I'm sure I flashed the correct ROM.
I think I lost the EFS partition as you say, since I didn't backed up anything (I'm feeling silly). How do I restore my EFS partition? Thanks again!

Check your device IMEI first if it says null or unknown or something similar then you indeed have corrupted EFS.
To check your device IMEI, open dialer then dial *#06#
As for how to fix this, as far as I know without a backup you can't. EFS partition is automatically backed up in any nandroid backup made by TWRP.
You can try XPOSED IMEI changer or if magisk has a similar module.

I honestly have no idea man, sorry not being of much help.
All I can help with is provide you with this tool.
On a side note the image you put there is completely useless and it only exposes your IMEI. The barcode also contains info about your IMEI.
Goodluck.

I saw your thread and my guess is that your device is network locked by IMEI, if you contact your network provider they can confirm it for you otherwise try a different sim card and see if it works.

perhaps you need to reflash the modem.img on your device, you can get it from here
Did you find a fix for this issue? I've same issue with my S8+. Phone keeps saying there is a Network or SIM Card error on any Lineage ROM (with Android 12 or 13).
