Battery issues on many custom ROMs - OnePlus 6T Questions & Answers

Hi guys, I've got a problem that keeps me forcing using stock ROM instead of custom ROMs. Basically, on every custom ROM I flash I get horrible battery life no matter what. Like 4 hrs SOT while on stock ROM with the same usage I can even double that result. It's very frustrating :/ anyone else experienced this? I've tried Pixel Experience, crDroid, Paranoid Android, CarbonROM and ElementalX.
On every single one of them I get horrible battery life after a week or so, still can't figure out why. As I said, stock ROM drains just fine and allows me two days usage with 7/8 SOT hrs. I remember having to revert back to stock because Paranoid Android 3 could barely last me until evening with ~4hrs SOT.
Any advices ?

Syberia Rom try ?

Trust me mate, i felt the same what you are feeling, tried all the roms but wont get satisfied with the battery but not with pixen os , its a beast in sot i wont get even 5 hours with other roms but in pixen able to get upto 7 hours of sot(without gaming) , after flashing you have to wait for a week to get better results. At first you will face deep sleep issues but its ok let the rom get adapt with your device after a week you will get better results. Its been a month still i am getting upto 6 hours of sot with lil bit heavy usage (without gaming). Good luck

Here's my stats for today. Definitely more than I'll ever need. This is my fav setup thus far using my 6t which I purchased from swappa used some months ago. I watched a ton of youtube vids, read lots of news from my Google news feed, texted for some hours using signal, made a few calls and read XDA of course. ?
I'm definitely happy with this. Normally I never even reach this far as I took my phone off charge a bit sooner than usual and it's waaaaayyy past my bed time. Haha!

Very rarely. Like maybe 30 minutes in those stats I posted here. Now I've made my tweaks. Installed Naptime and Servicely apps and tuned them and also installed magisk module to make Google services doze aggressively as well. And I wiped my phone and reinstalled OOS + Corvus rom+ Blu Spark kernel. This time I backed up my system partition so if I get all crazy installing sound mods I can restore my system and it's untouched. I stay on LTE almost always but when my phone's not being used most of the time I turn off my data and sync..

Android 6.0 Marshmallow battery discussion

This thread is for battery life discussion of android 6 Marshmallow.
I took the plunge recently and installed cm13 nightly on my phone after a couple of days with sultan's cm13 ROM. One notice that the android team really got the battery optimisations right this time especially when coming from android 5.1. The cell standby and android system bug is now gone and the phone can now be in standby for a long time. My usage pattern is browsing, reading in Adobe reader, listening to mucisc with bluetooth headphones, facebook, wassup, some youtube videos, sms and few calls. I play farm heros sometimes but I don't play graphical intensive games.
Here are 2 screenshots of my phone. It was charged to 100% at 8:00am on 30/11/2015 and it still has 41% left as at 10:00am 02/12/2015 Granted I have only used it on wifi and I configured wifi to automatically disable 5 minutes after the screen is off.
You can post you battery life too.

If a moderator deem it fit, he/she can close the thread but I felt it will be nice to make a dedicated thread for Marshmallow instead of looking through a big thread to get the relevant information needed for a particular android version.

yes.
It still sucks on mobile data. Nothing changed from Lollipop in regards of mobile data battery drain and i wish google could do something about it.
That's it! It's still on LP niveau
i had around 2 hours of screen on time and less than a day's battery life. The MMS also didn't work with WiFi connected, so I switched back to CM12.
I finally charged the phone today but not before I took a screenshot. My usage is not heavy at all so for heavy users, I guess the SOT will be longer but the total number of hours the phone was on will be lower. My usage did not change form that of 5.1 but I can definitely see a great change in standby time.
Still doesn't beat out KitKat in terms of heavy usage IMO.
The performance(yield) of the battery essuperior to android 5.1. The cycle of load lasts approximately two hours more of screen.

Try Omniron Herna build, it does wonders on my phone regarding battery usage

6.0 has the same battery life as 5.x for me. about 4-5h SoT.
KitKat and early 5.0 builds were clearly better with 8h SoT
Currently running Sultan's ROM CM13:
My battery life has hugely improved when I'm not touching the phone, no one app is draining way to much battery while not in the foreground.
There is one problem some people including me have been experiencing which is that Wi-Fi doesn't switch of properly and drains the battery, the only solution I found was to reboot the device after switching it off.
Not sure if this is a CM problem or the specific rom but not AOSP.
But apart from that battery life is good.
On sultan CM 13 CAF
Getting 4-5 hrs of SOT
Still waiting on a fix for mobile radio active. Had to go back to KitKat after a year on 5.x and a week or so on cm13. The difference in battery is staggering. Here's hoping Google actually finds a solution for the drain, otherwise I'm gonna have to stick to KitKat until I get a new phone.
I dont worry much abt battery charge ..currently on CM13.. dont see much of difference ... expect charge to last for 1 day.. connect to charging when home
Tech guys suggest me best battery rom for OPO don't fun with me by saying cm11s 44s. Almost 1 year stick to cm11 I need some latest android version in my device,
I'm new to xda
Thanks in advance!
Just stole myself this glorious phone yesterday (not really.. got a smokin deal) after 3 years and a month on a Nexus 4 that was left stock the entire time. My OPO is already rooted/unlocked so I'm trying to test out and find the best rom for battery life as both of the cm lollipop and marshmallow roms I've tried are about equal in terms of buttery-ness and just stick with that rom indefinitely.
Is general consensus that cm11 kit kat is far superior to the later cm roms in terms of battery life? Which exact rom would you choose as the last rom you flash onto your OPO ever?

Aggressive battery draining issue

Hello,
I own my Nexus 6P since January and in those times I managed to get over 5hours SOT (with any kernel and any rom basically). Then, I flashed the AK kernel version 63 and my troubles have started - it triggered massive battery drain. Then I tried to clean wipe and flash stock, then CM, then ElementalX kernel, then ResurrectionRemix, Fanco kernel, Blisspop, PureNexus and everything but the battery drain persisted even though I never flashed AK kernel again. It is 2 months now since I have this issue and I can not seem to locate the source of it. I thought a simple full wipe and flash would fix it, but it did not. I even tried to flash January's stock images, but it did not help either. I tried to uninstall Facebook, Messenger, Viber and all other apps, flashed older and newer Gapps, but NOTHING worked. The SOT that I can get from the first issue until now is MAXIMUM 3hours of SOT. I am desperate. Really desperate. Please, if any Android guru can help me I would really appreciate it with all my heart!

Have you tried a complete wipe and flashing the latest images?
Complete mean wiping the internal storage as well, there are some cases that some corrupted file triggered a media server drain
Worth a shot though considering you have tried everything else
Also don't expect another 5 hr sot
Since I'm the beginning you got 5 hr sot now less chances you'll get the same,
Telling you from my experience
I also bought it in jan and touched 7+hr sot twice and avg was 6hr 15 mins to 6hr 45 min
Now my avg is 5hr to 5 hr45 min
Battery was only good first couple months
Try the complete wipe and flashing stock images
DO A BACKUP OF YOUR INTERNAL MEMORY first!
Cheers

Looking at your BBS stats, it shows you do not have a data connection 50% of the time. Are you turning your mobile data connection off or are you in an area where you have zero mobile data connection? Also, are your Google Play Services up to date? The reason I ask is because the com.google.android.gms alarm woke your device 1003 times at a rate of 1.2 per minute.

Hello, I have full coverage of data of my service provider, but even though sometimes my Nexus 6P drops the signal and so on.. but this happens only a few times in a day and it never happened to me that someone could not reach me because of that. Yes, I have all the Google apps and Google Play Services updated to the latest versions.
Are you in LTE coverage or only 4G/H+?
If you're in LTE, try disabling it and going with only 4G. If LTE coverage is low, then it could be the source for your drain.
Alternatively, if you're in WiFi zones regularly, use Tasker to disable mobile data all together (or 2G at the most) while connected to WiFi and then invert the same task to re-enable mobile data when you're out of WiFi range.
(Attached) I'm getting almost 2 days battery with my setup of the aforementioned tasker task, however I'm almost exclusively in WiFi zones. I took my device off the charger at 100% this morning at 10am sharp. It's now 20mins after 5pm, and I've been using it moderately and receiving a lot of texts and what not, with a Moto360 paired pushing notifications, etc. and I'm just ticking over to 86%.
I wish I could get battery life like that. I am at 3h2m of SOT and I'm at 10% from 7:30am to 11:45pm when I'm writing this post. And I charged it via USB for about 30 minutes around 9:20pm. All this without my smart watch. Had Gear 2 for my last phone(Note 3) but I cannot get that working well on the 6p so I ordered a Moto360. I'm scared to see how the battery takes that now also. I really need to tweak this phone, only had it for less than a week now.

System service drain

I was convinced on the forums that my system service drain was regular until I took a look at my buddy's phone , he has a le s3 with 2 sim cards and his system service doesn't normally go past 80 mAh on a full charge . Something has to be wrong
This is a screenshot of my sot when I first got the phone
8 hours of SOT is really good. You can try installing Wakelock Detector to get a different perspective. Also, anything that uses accessibility services may harm battery life. Another thing you can do is go to settings-permissions-autolaunch and disable autolaunching of apps that don't need to be running all the time. You can see what apps are currently running in settings - app management. One last thing is that your signal strength isn't that great, so it may just be how it's supposed to be.

I'm in the same boat as you, only I'm running OmniRom. But yeah, had 8h sot, can barely make 6 now, android system is my second biggest drain, with 2+ hours of cpu usage.
I have tried and I have found that 7.1 to 8.1 do not have the best battery life.
I personally have been aopk 6.01 and been getting great battery life.
I did do a stress test I did gaming and blasting next radio 21 minutes use only 6% of battery.

I don't see the big deal you have 3 hours 57 minutes on screen time and 50% battery left you will get almost 8 hour screen time on that is well above average!

I have the same problem with Eui rom. As long as the display is turned on, the system service will exploit the battery. Nobody knows that?
There are no such problems in custom roms.(Aicp, omni vs )

Flash Magisk and try Greenify4Magisk. It's gotta be some third-party app you're running, or you have a bad cellular connection. Are you getting full signal on your phone? Do you have LTE running as well?

Best ROM so far for OnePlus 2 or Solution for battery life

Hello guys. I know that this is a very common question not just in OnePlus 2 forum. I read some posts of this, tried, but no success. So far I've tried couple of ROMs but battery life is so disappointing. Best shot was RR ROM 8.1 official with BB kernel installed. After system and kernel installed, I've done a wipe of data. I wanted to make sure there is nothing except system on my phone. After that, all necessary apps I use. That was operating very good in few days. But recently, out of nowhere, battery life is awful! Over the night, with no use and battery saver turned on, I loose more than 20%! I know that I haven't downloaded any additional apps after first days of installation, I haven't changed any settings since first day... I added fingerprint lock 2 days ago and yesterday I turned it off. So What is going on??? Phone is not overheating, seems like there is nothing in the background running to drain battery.
If you know what could cause the problem, it would be very helpful. But I'm also opened for installing a new ROM, kernel...
Who is here with good battery life? Gimme some advice! Btw, I don't care if it's N or O, or anything as long as it's operating well, reliable and no bugs. Thanks!
That's probably a battery issue, install AccuBattery then see how much health your battery have(requires few charges).

I reached (haters gonnah hate) best battery life on lineage 13 with boeffla kernel (zanezam's uber builds, use some battery safe profile from profile thread or make your own), amplify, greenify (optimized accordingly to the corresponding thread, with xposed) and NO GAPPS. Get about 3 days with SOT of 2-4h or a sot of 6-9h on 1 day (on an old oneplus2, no gaming). You can also use dualbootpatcher and a second, battery optimized (but lagging) ROM so you can switch when you can't charge your phone for a longer period of time.

I did, really awesome app but I'm not sure that I understand what is saying to me. And I don't think that is battery issue because before this I had a really good battery life. I'm sure that if I do a fresh install of new ROM, battery life will be great but only for few days.

Forget everything with dualboot patcher, you would probably mess up your phone.
For everything else, use xda search. Seriously, you only have to type the apps i suggested 1:1 into the adress bar and you will find it! If you are too lazy for this, unroot and go back to stock.... seriously...
Edit:
Yes, i'm using this now (lineageos13) with a self compiled boeffla kernel (uber 8, camera focus fixed on 6.0.1 roms), greenify, amplify (own build), xposed (needed for amplify, greenify works better with it) and no GAPPS (= google apps--> no playstore, youtube, etc--> draining battery as hell, idk what they are always doing in the background...)
My boeffla profile: 3 cores 1250mhz max, big cores disabled, battery extreme governor, system and my apps (whatsapp, telegram, 9gag, browser) work fluently (they start up a very little bit slower than before).
Battery profile is same but with 2 cores 675mhz, still only few microlaggs (you have to disable all animations in developer settings), internet browser is slow (use a lightweight browser, such as firefox focus) apps open up slower but aside from that the phone is usable. If you're interested in the kernel and my profiles, please tell me (you still have A LOT of work to do by yourself, such as setting up amplify and greenify, disabling (system) apps you don't need, adjusting everything for your needs, deny unnecessary permissions on app ops xposed, etc).

AOSiP it's a rom - Android Open Source Illusion Project
NGK it's a kernel - No Gravity Kernel
SOT - Screen On Time
Sent from my OnePlus 2 using XDA Labs
Results can vary. As someone who flashes way too many ROMs - its an addiction - I currently use crDroid Oreo as my daily. I also flashed the blue bolt kernel. This seems to give me good battery. I do have a rooted version of the stock ROM I flashed in twrp backup. Just in case. With crDroid also backed up I can move quickly from one to the other in about ten min without losing all my settings. It is a good idea to occasionally do a fresh backup of one or both since apps added or deleted or updated and any changes you've made since last backup will not be kept otherwise.

Do you know dualboot patcher (google it )? Very nice opportunity to have multiple roms installed on the device (which even share the data for specific apps--> u have all your wa chats from one rom on the other, directly after reboot). Wouldn't recommend for people who can not restore a backup over adb (unexpected things can happen, but way better than always saving and restoring a backup)...

I did, really awesome app but I'm not sure that I understand what is saying to me. And I don't think that is battery issue because before this I had a really good battery life. I'm sure that if I do a fresh install of new ROM, battery life will be great but only for few days.
Can you explain this please with simple phrases? How was the performance? Do you use it now?

If you don't mind for a worse looking screen quality, you can use terminal emulator (with root), do a backup in TWRP(ALL partitions!) then type (hit Enter after each line):
"su" (grant root if asked)
"wm size 720x1280" (for 720p, it looks about the same as 1080p, u can also use 480x854)
"wm density 300" (200 for 480x854)
Then u can lower your cpu frequencies until it lags. (and disable system animations, my phone works fine at 480p with 2 cores at 768mhz max freq) will post sot/running time (without charging) when i have the time to test.

Bad battery life / new OP8Pro / 5-6h SOT / Tips?

Hi y'all,
bought my first OnePlus ever a week ago but I get like 5 hours of Screen On Time, while I saw here on xda people getting even 10 hours with 120 Hz.
Running latest stock ROM, not rooted because I actually don't need root.
FHD+ 120Hz, no AOD.
Factory reset done, Wipe Cache done.
I'm not gaming, using my phone for Chrome, WhatsApp and Social Media (not 24/7).
Any tips for me?
I kinda do like the phone and may keep it, but I hate to say that my 3 years old P20 Pro still gets 6-8h SOT. I know, display is better on 8Pro but still...
I dont have a problem installing custom ROM and custom Kernel if that's gonna get me towards those 8+ hours SOT.
If installing custom ROM, I still need my banking apps working/safe, if that's maybe not the case.
Thanks!
Stay on latest OOS, root and use a custom kernel

But with root my Banking Apps may not work right? Paypal/Crypto/etc. may not work or be safe either or?
I already tried debugging with GSAM Battery Monitor and noticed that Google Play Services wakes the device pretty often but somehow doesnt use much % Power. Google Play Services has also the highest Sensor Time of all apps.
Any tips on that one?
And also, which Kernel? Bluspark?
Turn auto brightness off if on; then set brightness low.... See if it helps.

I don't use auto brightness and I use brightness at like 35-45%. So that shouldn't be an issue either. Thanks for the tip though.

Just got the 8 Pro also ... brand new. Noticing battery drain as well. I lost 10 % overnight. Are you seeing similar drain?

It will take few days to settle up but still, with stock OOS it was bad.
I flashed LineageOS + Magisk + Radioactive Kernel and I am still testing it out but it doesnt seem to be much better than stock. Maybe a bit but no way of reaching 8 hours SOT.
I'd suggest try something else and report here, so I can test it out too.
I was thinking of testing PixelExperience and/or Stock rooted OOS with custom Kernel but I'll give a LineageOS a chance 2-3 days more.

Thanks. I just installed Omega Kernel and that seems to have made a slight difference.
Do you use AccuBattery by chance? My estimated capacity is 3855 mAh ~ design capacity is reading correct @ 4510 mAh. Not sure how accurate this is, but it would mean that the battery isn't what it should be or received a used device / defective battery?

How can you flash Havoc | Custom Roms without TWRP? Where can I find Havoc? I didn't see in the custom ROMS / Kernels section.

How's Havoc battery life after a day? I added Naptime and am using the Magisk Module GMS Doze. My overnight drain dropped from 10% to 7%, which is still way too high. I am using xXx No Limits as well.

I haven't set my phone fully yet because i wanted to try the Rom out. I have now "only" Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Discord and few smaller apps logged in but that's it. I don't know about standby drain but I'm now at 51% battery with 4hours screen on which means it's better but still no chance of reaching 10 hours. 7 hours should be reachable right now
Black theme, black walpaper .
If you don't use bluetooth, wifi, nfc disable them .Enable when you use them.
Uninstall or at least disable apps you don't use.
Enable battery saver and other settings in settings.
