I've searched through countless threads on xda and I couldn't find any way to root my Galaxy S5.
Phone Details:
Galaxy S5
G900V
eMMC 11
Kernel 3.4.0
Android 6.0.1
August 1, 2017 Security Patch
KNOX 2.6
There are some deleted images from a messaging app in my phone from years ago that I want to retrieve using EaseUS MobiSaver. I've looked through multiple threads saying that I can root the G900V by either downgrading from marshmallow to lollipop and rooting it, or by using a specific method to break G900V with eMMC 15. There are outdated threads like using Towelroot, and others that recommend KingRoot which unfortunately don't work and keep me in a queue.
I'm posting a new thread for this problem as I haven't found and threads with a solution.
Is there any way I can root my G900V without going back to lollipop, which I believe would delete all of the information on my phone including the deleted pictures?
Thank you!

The root methods you have listed are intended for older versions. The only functioning NC1 root method is towelroot. Please check the all things NC1 thread prior to posting. All info can be found there. The person above has given the link to towelroot. If you go to the galaxy s5 forums, you can get a tutorial on it, but it's pretty straightforward. Enjoy your rooted device.
Remember that the phone has a locked boot loader. So, the stock kernel and recovery cannot be replaced. The only working recovery is safestrap. There is also restrictions on the Roms that can be flashed.

You can use TowelRoot for your phone
So I'm new to the whole android scene but I would like to root my phone. I have read up on rooting and whatnot but before going any further I decided to post a thread here with a couple of my questions. Here is some info about my phone in-case it was needed.
Model number - SM-G900V
Android Version - 4.4.4
Baseband version - G900VVRU1ANI2
Kernel Version - 3.4.0 Sun Sept 14
Now onto the questions
1) I looked at towel root and apparently it is one of the roots that doesn't trip KNOX but towelroot doesn't work on kernels after June 3 and mine just so happens to be after June 3 so would it be better to find a new rooting method that wouldn't trigger KNOX or try to flash a kernel prior to june third then use towelroot.
2) After I root will I need to maintain the root by installing updates to it or anything like that.
3) If towelroot isn't an option any more what is the best method to root without triggering KNOX?
That's all for now but I am sure more questions will arise as they are answered.
Thanks for the help
Hi Guys
There's an OTA 5.0 update ready for my GS5. The problem is that I have root (Towelroot) and want to keep it.
From what I've been reading it looks like all root methods are either ustable of KNOX tripping.
Thanks in advance.
Same issue here
I've got a G900F - no carrier, but running on 3 in the UK anyway. When I got it, it was on Kitkat, and Towelroot wouldn't work due to the compile date being > Towelroot's ability. I downgraded the kernal as per the thread in the General section (as a note, the thread "How to root - all variants" is so far out of date, it's going to lead to people with less experience nuking their devices, perhaps we should unsticky that thread and write up a cleaner version for all the variants out there?) then rooted, and changed the kernal back to my original one.
Great - now I have a rooted, KNOX 0x0 S5 running kitkat. Now Lollipop is available and I'd like to update. So some questions on how I do this and...
1. Retain root with KNOX 0x0
2. Not trash my installed apps / configurations
I know I'll need to update via say Kies as OTA won't be available to me but if/when I update will I keep installed apps / configs? And how do I keep root without affecting KNOX?
This would, I imagine, be a common scenario and worth creating a sticky / section in an updated "How to root all variants" sticky.
Thanks everyone,
a.
Take this only as a pointer because I can't remember exactly what I read, but I think you can update to Lollipop using Mobile ODIN Pro with the Pre-Root option checked, using a stock Lollipop ROM from sammobile / XDA so long as you are already running a rooted KitKat ROM, and that doesn't flag the KNOX counter
Im new to the S5 and just gathering info myself, so make sure you check up on that yourself thoroughly first

Thanks for reminding us of Mobile Odin Pro. It's got the ability to reinject root on firmware installation and not tripping the binary counter.
Can someone confirm whether this method still works on Galaxy S5 when installing 5.0 firmware?
The last comment from Chainfire in his mobile odin thread was that it wasn't compatible yet.....but being worked on......no updates since that post.
Sent from my rooted kn0x0 SM-G900F S5
Yep, that's what I thought as well. I guess I will have to wait a bit. No big deal.
Thanks Keithross
Hi there,
I've a new Galaxy S5 phone with Android 5.0.1 OS.
My old Galaxy S5 had Android 4.4.2 and was rooted using towelroot.
I see a lot of threads about lollipop ROMs and I'm confused on the actions I have to take.
Can anyone point me in to right direction? What thread should I use to root lollipop?
Look at your build number in 'about phone' in settings. If it is BOE1, BOG5 or OK3 then you have a locked bootloader and CAN NOT root the phone. If you happen to have BOD5 of BOC4 or earlier you are good to go and just need to read the instructions on numerous threads in the general forum. You need to check the build number but saying you have 5.01 you are pretty much going to find you are out of luck ...

First read this, and I have moved your thread here.
Hello all. I've searched the threads as much as I can and haven't been able to find a solution for my dilemma. I have a Samsung Galaxy s5 Verizon and want to root it using towelroot.
Android version: 5.0
Kernel version: 3.4.0 Thursday, February 18, 2016
Build number LRX21T.G900VVRU2BPB1
Now, when I attempted to root with towelroot I pressed the button in the app, and it said " this device is not supported". I then tried the modstring codes, but none worked. So after reading a little more I found that towelroot works on Verizon S5's, and was indeed made for them, however it only works on those with a kernel build date before a specified date (before June 3 2014)
Having this information in hand it made sense to me that I should downgrade my phone in an effort to make towelroot function. So i researched it and located the correct stock firmware for my model, and selected an android version of 4.2.2 and one just newer than that and attempted to flash my phone with them both. I followed the instructions to the letter. When it didn't work I did some more looking. I turned on USB debugging mode, made sure reactivation lock was off, and even removed my SD and Sim card. Each attempt failed on Odin. I'm stumped as to how to get it to work. Help?
Towelroot does not work on Android 5, and since you are on "PB1" you can not downgrade to a previous version.
Check out this thread, it explains how to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370
