Screen too Bright even at minimum brightness - Samsung Galaxy M30s Questions & Answers

Screen is too bright even if you set brightness slider to lowest value .It makes really painful for eyes to use the phone at night.
This issue was not in Android 9 .
Tried resetting device health service app but that does not work.

Was facing the same problem, as a workaround I am using below app:

Automatic brightness vs manual

Hi guys
Which preference do you use? Is automatic brightness option best for battery saving?
i remember it was an official battery saving tip for iPhone and wondered if it's the case for N1.
eh, just keep it on the lowest brightness... thats the best bet
the problem with auto-brightness is that it fluctuates a bit too much if you're in a room with localised lights and shadows... even in a seemingly bright area to your eyes, the display will go to lowest brightness... i just found it personally annoying, as it would usually fluctuate when i wasn't expecting, and to a lower brightness than i could stand... i've since stopped using it... i set my brightness manually to about 25%... for me that's a good balance between a usuable brightness for all conditions, while still giving good battery life...
I use auto brightness with locale which toggles it on and off based on my location. But even before I did that I really didn't notice to much of a difference in battery levels at the end of the day.
I just wish there were min and max settings for auto brightness. Cause I am pretty sure I have never needed the brightness turned all the way up.
i prefer auto brightness if it works. my 1st N1 had a glitch where the screen brightness used to flicker. on my 2nd N1 the auto brightness does not adjust on full scale........(if you go into 100% dark room, the brightness setting must automatically drop to 0)
I too found that the auto-brightness flickered too much. I downloaded Brightness Level off the marketplace and never looked back...
Auto-brightness fluctuates too much for my liking. So, I just keep it set to middle brightness.
the light sensor is unstable, so manually 25% all the time..
Auto brightness too dark
In my Nexus autobrightness works ok outdoors, but indoors it sets the light too dark. I wish it`d work fine because it's a waste of time adjusting it manually every time you move into different light conditions.
I've read Nexus users report different behaviours of their light sensors, maybe it is a bad quality component of the phone. Is there an app which can modify the sensibility of the light sensor? Would be great to adjust this sensibility and set brightness always to auto with a little more brightness indoors in my case.
manual, 25% - the best balance of battery and light for me.
i use about 60%. I hated the automatic brightness because it was darker than I would like most of the time.
My position is, I bought a phone that has a high resolution, so why not give it the brightness to make the color "pop" like they should.

Screen brightness goes down automaticaly.

Hi,
Everytime my battery goes down 15%, my screen brightness goes to almost 0.
I cant see any setting to change this.
I dont have any app to do that.
Currently rba023 rooted.
Thank you

If there's a way to change it I would like to know as well. It's very hard to see for that last 15%.
Wish I could help.
The last 15% would last no time if it was at normal brightness. It's designed for, you know, if you need to use it in an emergency ;-)
To get your brightness back go to the sound and display setting and click brightness. It returns it to full brightness. When your battery drops to 10% and 5% it will do the same.
As far as I'm aware there isn't a proper solution to this.
My issue with the brightness is the "auto brightness" function seems backwards to me.
E.g. if I am in direct sunlight, auto brightness turns the brightness of the screen way down, which means I can hardly see it. If anything the brightness should be turned UP.
If I am in a dark room, auto brightness turns the brightness up, when really, turning it down would be better as it doesn't need to be as bright in a dark room. So it should be turned DOWN automatically.
It's arse-over-tit, as we say.
Yes,
But now with root, i'm sure anyone with the right knowledge can modify this 'stock setting' ! ...
Anyone to try it?
Cheers!

Hi mine seems fine.. Yours however does, as you say, seem arse over tit.

This doesn't really fix the query but for fast access to adjust the brightness I use an app called QuickSettings which I have on my front screen to give quick access to some basic settings. On the brightness adjuster you have to have the phone settings not on automatically adjust.

Auto brightness only brightens, never dims

I noticed that the brightness only brightens but never dims back in automatic brightness display setting. I can reproduce this easy with turning the lamp on my desk on and off. It only goes back to the lower brightness if turning the screen off and on again.
Noticed this too but seems to only occur when I use a widget to toggle between Auto and 100%.
If I leave the setting in Auto from within settings then it seems to work. Brightness widgets seem to break the auto functionality.
Hmm, I don't use a brightness widget. The light of the softbuttons go on if I cover the light sensor, but the screens stays in high brightness.

Must be an all around bug then. If you turn the Atrix off and back on then the auto brightness functionality is restored.

This must be an Android thing. My Atrix does the same thing, as did the Nexus One I had before. I've had several (high end) Nokia's that dimmed/brightened perfectly. After 5 seconds, they would brighten (or dim) accordingly. I was hoping Motorola was better at making phones than HTC (the KING of bad battery life). We ALL lose here. Our precious battery life is being drained by the poor execution of a simple function.
This is a stock android thing (problem). Custom ROMs can allow it to dim and change brightness smoothly rather than in discrete steps (Cyanogen).
That's what I thought. I found this free app called "esdimmer". It supposed to be for Galaxy phones, but it's somewhat working on my Atrix. Does this function work any better in Gingerbread?

Well it's good to hear that it's a stock android problem and not the actual phone. I did find a way to get around this problem but it's very limited. You can get the screen to dim by first putting the phone into standby and then press the standby button once again (which gets you into the lock screen). You'll notice that the screen then dims (if coming from a well lit area/room to a darker one).

Auto-brightness still too low on 4.5.11

Hello guys, I installed 4.5.11, but auto-brightness is very agressive, many times i find it on the lowest setting. Any way to fix this? I just want it a bit higher.
Seems like Oneplus is having everything that saves battery on, from brightness to Doze. As some notifications didn't show untill i opened the app. Usually whatsapp. Personally, instead of 7h of screen on time, i prefer having "just" 6 and everything working good. Just got this phone, 6-7 hours of SOT on a 3300mah battery is insane!
This is very stupid. I have the same problem. I dont know why OnePlus don't make AutoBrightness ajustable like Samsung in Touchwiz for ex...
same with me, when autobrightness in darker room, display is always set to lowest brightness ever. really annoying.
On my side, I really love the way auto brightness behave on my OP5. Too much light is not good for the eyes.
Exactly, the user should be able to set a default level, then auto brightness goes from there.
For those who have sensitive eyes, you can always use night mode. It just block the blue light that is mostly responsible to keep is awake.
When the auto brightness is too low did you go into Settings / Display and move the Adaptive Brightness slider to your desired brightness? I am now in a very dark room and the slider isn't all the way down to the minimum. I can see my screen fine.

Yeah or i do it from the status bar. Still after a while it returns to a lower level. While i already want it on a low level, it's too agressive. I whish i could raise it by 10-20%.
Yeah, that slider doesn't adjust the adaptive brightness level like it would on a Nexus or Pixel device. It remains as a standard brightness level instead

Well, we could install xposed to fix the brightness. But then i don't know i want to install all of that just for brightness.

Do you experience brightness issue?

I've noticed weird brightness issue at Auto Brightness turned off and when I set it at full. It is actually going even brighter when is brighter outside and it's getting darker again when going into darker environment and it is making me crazy because firstly I don't want my battery to drain more when using brightness sensor and actually don't like the feeling of brightness going up and down that's why I TURNED OFF autobrightness. Could you reproduce the same behavior?

Yes i have this when dark mode is turned on, Even with Auto brightness off it will still change the brightness when i am outside in the bright sun and it also changes the way the text appears adding sort of black lines on the edges of the letters (to give it more contrast ?). It's a feature not an issue i think it also doesn't happen indoors even when lights change. For some reason it only happens when it's very bright outside.

Yeah, but every feature should have "turn off" button, but Xiaomi couldn't help it with forcing something on us as always...
Under Settings/Display/Contrast & colors try using either Increased contrast or Standard. NOT Automatic contrast.
