Is this the right phone for me ? - Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I'm about to buy this phone, but want to be absolutely sure that it will fit my peculiar needs.
I hope this kind of question belongs here...
I want to buy this phone and :
- unlock its recovery and use TWRP
- root it using Magisk
- I also need a 64 bit ROM
I searched the forum through and think that it's all green, but would be reassured by a few confirmations
THANK YOU

hello world , new note 10.1

Hello there guys nice to meet you :silly: , i ve neen with you for a while , reading some of your threads , but today i got my note 10.1 .
i have some questions though(i did some reasearch first )
1) how long for initial charge ? there is no indicator ,is it?
2) should i update jelly bean imediatly (through kies) i guess i will get a longer battery life , correct?
3)regarding rooting , i guess all guides are updated for rooting jellybean, right? or should i root on 4.0 and then update ?
i ve read that some methods increase binary number count wich will void my warranty ,
and some others won't.
So i would like to point me out some directions if possible . cheers !
So Mr. Trademarked Naturegod.
I don't think anyone will make that kind of decisions for you.
1. Charge it and you will see.
2. Some say so, others don't. Maybe a new ROM can max the battery life as well.
3. There is somewhere an app to decrease that back to zero.
4. You should read some more threads, write down your questions on paper and then search the forum first to find an answer.
5. Watch the registration video. I liked it.
edit: Oh, instead of writing down your questions on paper, use ure new note 10.1.
haha thank you very much , kind sir
btw i dont see any back up option on kies , correct?
any guide i follow here . on how to back up , will be updated ? or i should pay attention to some details?
I really do not know.
The first thing I have made was to install cwm via odin. Maybe an older one because the newest clockwork mod (touch) have some errors in graphic installations of some roms. So I installed a cwm that seemed to work on other notes too.
After that I installed via cwm (pay attention to bootmode) the root-zip and then a good ROM (or vice versa).
Now I can install anything I want. If I install that app to set the modification counter to zero, I can flash the original stock image back to the device and nothing ever happens. (Maybe other people tried and I forgot something.)
Via cwm you can backup. Otherwise you have to use an App like titanium backup.
Before you install any ROM or flash your device... you should install any app you want and you want to test. Play around and the best apps and things you install after a fresh rom flashing.
If you do it step by step, there isn't much you can do wrong. But still pay attention and read everything in those interesting threads. Sometimes the newest information isn't on first site.
Update to newest version, watch out for the exynos exploit (use search, but should be patched with newest samsung update) and maybe - eh, whatever. Use it like other noobs use a new tablet.
If you don't need the pen, maybe you should change to nexus 10 (?)
Normally, most member in here don't write that much. I do because I am new too. Read the Stickies in each thread. Should answer most questions.

Need Help Rooting (solved)

Hello XDA,
I have been using Samsung phones all my life , Rooted (odin) a lotta phones installed countless custom roms and finally i thought its time for pure android experience . I bought a moto g4 plus from a friend of mine and have been going through the g4 + forum for 2 days now . I have not got the slightest of idea how you root / install custom rom on this device . Its so different from how you do it on a Samsung device so finally I have decided to ask for your help .
Info I would like to share :
1.The boot loader is locked
2.The device is a XT1643
3. 3 GB / 32 GB
4. December 1 , 2017 security patch
5. NPJS25.93-14-13
6. There was a OTA update when I received the phone which I didn't update
As mentioned earlier It looks like I am a complete noob when it comes to this device and I would need all the possible help I can get .
If anybody would be kind enough to guide me through this initial learning phase I will be very grateful and would even share my whisky ( which I usually don't do )
If you need any more information please ask
Thanks and Regards

Hello Mate
As mentioned above I have been searching the forum for almost 2 days before I thought of asking for help . I did go through the thread( that you have mentioned ) earlier today but it looks a bit old to me . The link on how to flash twrp comes back with a 404 error . The last few posts are helpful (as it deals with the same build) but again as am new to the particular device It would be helpful if someone could give me a noob friendly procedure . I am not here to break the rules just trying to learn without bricking my device

Flashing TWRP:
>>> Flashing TWRP or Rooting will void your warranty. Please ask anything before doing, if your not fully confident on what to be done. <<<
Get the TWRP image file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...p-twrp-3-0-2-2-recovery-moto-g4-plus-t3386586
Next, get the adb and mfastboot from https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B5jlU9JnLAZGbVU0UzJ3N3p4X2M/view?usp=sharing
Unzip the file and place the image file inside the extracted folder.
Reboot to Bootloader (power off, then press the power and volume down buttons simultaneously).
Open a new command prompt or terminal window and do the following:
Code:
mfastboot flash recovery twrp_*version*_athene.img

Sorry for being so short earlier. We have quite a few members here who constantly post issues without using the search function.
You can try to post I quoted above to flash TWRP. It's fairly straight forward.
Are you planning on flashing a Nougat ROM or are you going the adventurous route and flashing an Oreo ROM? The TWRP version mentioned in the quoted post should be fine for flashing Nougat and 32-bit based Oreo ROMs, but you'll need 64-bit TWRP for 64-bit Oreo ROMs.
Use this as a reference for 32-bit and 64-bit Oreo ROMs: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/oreo-roms-table-t3717226
64-bit TWRP: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...recovery-twrp-3-2-1-unofficial-touch-t3722206
Once you've flashed TWRP, you can either flash different versions through TWRP itself or through the Play Store app.
As far as ROMs, I'd recommend Official Lineage OS 14.1 for Nougat: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/rom-cyanogenmod-14-1-t3522101
And I'd recommend Official AICP 13.1 for Oreo: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...om-aicp-13-1-o-8-1-0-official-weekly-t3731269 (You'll need to download the 20180212 build since most recent builds either have a broken camera or won't boot.)
Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I am going to try the Oreo builds as I have never got a chance to try it on my previous devices so I guess I will be using a 64bit version of twrp.
This is what am planning to do :
1. Unlock the bootloader
2. Flash an official version of TWRP
2.a Take a backup
3. Flash a custom kernel through twrp
4. Flash Super Su / Magisk
5. Flash a 64 bit version of twrp using TWRP
6. Flash a custom ROM
Please correct me if I am wrong
Thanks a lot for the detailed guide

If you want 64bit Oreo roms it's a little bit different
1. Unlock the bootloader
2. Flash a 64 bit version of twrp
2.a Take a backup and safe it off your phone
3. Flash a Oreo 64bit custom ROM
3.a flash gapps package arm64 (8.0 or 8.1 depending on rom version)
4. Flash magisk 15.3
If you want to root the stock nougat rom steps 1-4 of your list are correct.

Not quite. You'll want to go in this order:
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash TWRP
3. Backup
4. Wipe (Wipe/Advanced Wipe; ART/Dalvik, System, Data, Cache)
5. Flash ROM
6. Flash Gapps
7. Reboot
8. Go through setup wizard and let everything settle for ~10 minutes
9. Boot into TWRP and flash SuperSU or Magisk (I would suggest Magisk), then flash kernel and reboot
You'll need to flash the unofficial 64-bit TWRP mentioned in my previous post to flash a 64-bit Oreo ROM, otherwise you'll get an error message when flashing ROM.
You'll also need to use unofficial Gapps since there aren't any official Gapps for 8.1 just yet. I'd recommend either mini or micro here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/unofficial-opengapps-8-1/files/arm64/20180225/
You should be able to flash the most recent Magisk located here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/beta-magisk-v13-0-0980cb6-t3618589
If you do flash a custom kernel, I'd highly suggest Frostbitten: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...s-frostbitten-kernel-moto-g4-g4-plus-t3649155

If it was an OTA update, it looks likely to be more the February 2018 security patch rather than the January 2018 patch.

That is true, however for our devices we have generally been issued the same security patch level regardless of region. It may be different builds for particular regions (e.g NPJS25.93-14-13 for India, Brazil and EU, and NPJ25.93-14.7-3 for US) but they are both the December 2017 security patch.
Regardless, we've still yet to see an OTA newer than December.

Evening ,
Thanks For all the support i finally rooted MY phone
But
I ran into a bit of a problem " Sim Cards Not Detecting "
This is What i did
1. Unlocked My bootloader
2. flashed twrp-3.1.1-athene_shreps
3. Took a backup of everything
4. flashed ElementalX-G4-2.00.zip
5. flashed Magisk 16.0
reboot : No sim cards detected
After which I flashed lineage-14.1-20180219-nightly-athene-signed.zip and the gapps provided
experienced the same error again .
uninstalled magisk and flashed the latest Super Su (V2.82) with no positive results
not sure what went wrong ...is there any way out of it ?

First, I'm a little confused about the fact that you flashed that version of TWRP instead of the one located here: https://dl.twrp.me/athene/
Second, I've never had that happen when flashing, so I'm not really sure what to recommend. If I had to guess, I would say the best route would be to restore your backup and see if the SIM is detected.
I have found at least one thread with a similar issue; might be worth a look: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/fix-sim-card-issue-t3751679
Let us know what happens.

Is it okey if I flash the twrp that you have mentioned over the existing twrp?

Edit : I have restored my backup but still the same issue.
Edit : flashed the official TWRP . still the same results
EDIT : After 3 hours + Countless reboots the issue solved on its own ... I am not sure what really happened.. lol

Old Lenovo b8000-f, what can i do?

Hi, my wife give the other day an old lenovo b8000-f she had at her work. I't new with little use with use, but of course i can't be perfect i shas android 4.4.2, very old. I don't want to use it as a brand new modern tablet, but with android 4.4.2 i can use it for almost anything. Is there a rom to upgrade it, i already search and i can't find anything. I fanybody know some roms plese tell me.
Thank
Aloha, I looking for any ROM to update my Lenovo B8080-F as well, however, at the moment I couldn't find anything relative to this even on Google. I just found this to Install a Recovery TWRP https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/recovery-twrp-2-8-7-0-touch-recovery-t3282520
We appreciate if someone read this and got any idea where can we find a ROM to update our old tables.
Cheers!
Does anybody have a link to a custom ROM for a Lenovo B8000? Seen the instructions to install TWRP but don't see much point in doing that unless there's a ROM available.

I'm looking too. It seems such a shame to let an old decent tablet like this go to waste...

2 years, now i think i should root & use a custom rom...

Hello there friends
This is my first proper Indian phone, been using it since past 2 year, pure stock just the gcam.
I wish to root it now and use a custom rom.
Can you great guys point me to the latest unlocking and rooting procedure as i am on latest firmware now and not sure if older methods will work or not.
Secondly could you please point me yo a stable, custom rom that is very smooth to operate, battery efficient, without any bugs and can handle all banking apps and stuff.
I am okay if its Android 9 or 10 just a thoroughly stable rom.
Thank you in advance
Hello,
Just did it two days ago, follow this thread (and the linked thread when necessary, like the TWRP one) :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/as...w-to/discussion-unlocking-bootloader-t3786698
Three things to remember for the script to work :
1/ You need to enable USB debugging in developrs options
2/ You need to install the Windows drivers for your phone, that is, when connected through USB, you shouldn't see a yellow exclamation mark in your Windows Device Manager
3/ It doesn't work with Rizen CPU on USB 3.0 port
Once you know that it's pretty straightforward. Oh, one thing that happened to me right after unlocking bootloader is that it asked for password to access Data partition, I had to restart to recovery and wipe Data partition once more.
Don't forget to backup everything before starting, and have fun, this device has a lot of nice ROMs to try
Thanks mate
Can you confirm if b Kong apps re working fine upon unlock and root with the custom roms
That's my biggest concern now
I am ok with unlocking and rooting but bank apps not working owing to rooted device is my next biggest concern.

Followed this method on pie few months back and it works. Follow the instructions and you are good.
I've been using Pixel Experience Plus ROM as my daily driver for the past 3 months and I never look back to any other ROMs!
I'm using Havoc 2.9 Pie, Bootlegger rom is also a nice option, both of these roms provide multiple customizations.
Thanks a lot guys for the replies
Sorry got stuck with some stuff hence could thank you folks and couldnt even visits
If there are anymore newer roms then please do let me know
Thanks again

Need a couple of things sorted though
1 how to te remove that persistent search bar at the bottom without changing the launcher
2. How to remove the date and weather widget upto on home screen

MIUI 12 slow as ...

Hello everyone,
I have my redmi note 7 with which I've kept using MIUI since I bought it. But now the android system weights for 9 go. I think it is insane for a phone, correct me if I'm wrong.
The phone is slow and when I try to erase everything et reinstall it. The system is faster but the system is still heavy.
Do you think rooting it can help solve the issue ? Or may those 9 go of system be caused by some viruses ?
Thanksnin advance,

Unlock the bootloader and flash a customer without root. You have a big choice, the most one are very fast and stable
Thank you for your answer.
0) what is the weight of a normal custom system once installed ?
1) Do you mean to flash a rom and still using the original kernel ?
The last time I flashed a system, it was on a Galaxy S2.... Did the things changed ? At that time we had an important risk to brick the phone under gingerbread version of Android (that version had some kind of bug) .
2) Are the risks still high today ?
I looked a bit through the list or roms on xda and the lineageOS seems to come out as the lightest rom.
3) Is there a room that is more stable than the others ?
4) Is there a rom that is kept updated more than the others ?
5) What about the android security updates once a custom rom is installed ?
Sorry that is a lot of questions but I need an update since my galaxy S2

First, when you unlock your bootloader your phone make a factory reset. Then you have the choice which ROM. lingeos, havoc, pixel os are stable and have the last security patch. Then you have the choice with or without gapps (Google apps). In every thread is a how to and the recommend gapps. Orange fox is a very good recovery. And brick risk is small. Sometimes I had a softbrick with testing around kernel and modules, but it easy to fix. Make a backup with the customer recovery before. The weight I don't know in the moment. My daughter change the pattern . In the forum is a old how to unlock and under development is the recovery. You will find it. Have fun

Thank you very much for your answer.
I'll post the comparison of the weight of the system once I'll have installed it.
