Following a guide, what does "decrypt and re-encrypt" mean? - Moto E4 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I gave a guide about installing Lineage OS 16 on a moto e4 a try and got stuck.
It says:

Systemless Root Moto X Pure Edition XT1575

I have a Moto X pure edition XT1575 running Marshmallow 6.0. I've read something about Pure edition owners getting stuck in the middle of booting after some version of Superuser.apk was flashed. Am I correct in saying I have to use the systemless root method? If so, should I use Superuser 2.56.apk or version 2.62? I'm also confused about TWRP. Do I have to use a device specific version of TWRP or can I even use TWRP if I root using the systemless method?
Thanks in advance for your help!
My device info:

Im trying to figure out how to root this myself. Not much to go on. I hope your post gets some attention!
These directions worked easily for me. Be sure you've
unlocked the bootloader https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
enablrf developer mode
set USB debugging on
as discussed in http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3200808
Then do the following:
Download the latest stable SuperSU and place it on your SD card, and the latest TWRP img file for clark.
Reboot into the bootloader and boot TWRP with the command `fastboot boot twrp.img` (replace twrp.img with the name of the twrp file) and perform a full backup to your SD card, then reboot into the bootloader again.
Flash TWRP with `fastboot flash recovery twrp.img` and start recovery, TWRP should start... Go to Reboot menu and reboot into the recovery again (this locks TWRP in so it won't be replaced by the OS on next boot).
On this start of TWRP, go to Advanced and Terminal and enter "echo SYSTEMLESS=true>>/data/.supersu" and press enter, then go back home and flash the current version of SuperSU.
It Worked!!

WooooHoooooo!! This is what finally worked for me. Thank you sooooo much.
To confirm:
Moto X Pure XT1575
Build Number: MPHS24.49-18-4
Kernel version 3.10.84
Android Ver: 6.0
Unlocked Bootloader using Motorola's method posted on the manufacturer's site (linked above).
Installed TWRP 3.0.2-0
Used TWRP to make a backup
Copied SuperSu to device
Installed (using method quoted above) SR4-SuperSU-v2.78-SR4-20161115184928.zip
Notes:
No mater what I tried to before (using older ver of supersu) I either got stuck on the M or the M with stitches.
Every time I got stuck I reverted to the backup I created (once I had TWRP installed).
Side-loading did not work on TWRP as it never did finish getting sideload to run.
This guide will help you correct most issues, or help you to flash root correctly the FIRST time.

Thought of others looking for ROOT information as these XT1575 phones are still being bought and sold, so this would be handy from someone experienced -YES- none the less to have someone answer any related questions you'd have.

To be honest, when I get a chance I'm redoing that guide to use Magisk instead of SuperSU... It is pretty straightforward, use the Magisk zip instead of SuperSU and nothing special needs to be done but I haven't had time to test it and actually write it up step by step.

I see and thanks for a fast reply.
Could you maybe link to what Magisk is in your revised guide for us who know not other than Root is possible from it's use.
Then for people like myself who have purchased the Pro version of SuperSU to show support or for more options (whatever the case maybe), still include it of a part in your guide to help us out using SuperSU too?
Thanks for being Great - Sir :good:

Encryption doesn't work on rooted Moto G4?

Hi guys, this is my first post here
I have a Moto G4 that I rooted recently and flashed with good ROMs for testing, but in all ROMs, Encryption doesn't work.
In all times that I tried, I go on Settings > Encrypt and start, but always remaining 00:00 for a lot or hours and when I restart phone, I enter with password and display this error.
Decryption unsuccessful. The password you entered is correct but unfortunately your data is corrupt

Then I have a question, encryption doesn't work on rooted Moto G4? If yes, have other option to protect my data on rooted device?
Thanks.

In my knowledge, encryption will not work on rooted phones. But there is a workaround for this. You can root your phone after the phone is fully encrypted. To root your phone after it is encrypted, you can click adb sideload on TWRP and through the terminal on your pc, you can sideload phh's superuser. Reboot your phone and you have a working, encrypted phone with root installed. I didn't try this, but I think, it will work.
@stkpxl thanks for the help, but I have a question.
Will be possible to make encryption with SD card as extended internal storage? Thanks
@stkpxl I'm trying to flash LineageOS after flash Magisk but response error 7. What wrong about this? Thanks.

I really trying, but isn't working, look my steps.
- Flash Stock ROM like this post http://www.stechguide.com/download-stock-firmware-of-moto-g4-and-g4-plus/
- Run stock, setup first run, format sd and define as internal storage
- Flash recovery twrp-3.0.3-n4-athene_shreps.img
- Run twrp
- Install ElementalX-G4-1.04-LOS.zip
- Run stock, set password and encryption device
- Smartphone restart and stock encrypt device
- Run stock again, password working fine
- Run twrp, twrp ask for encrytion password, I put and enter on twrp normally
- Install lineage-14.1-20170313-nightly-athene-signed.zip without wipe
* Fail on this point
Code:

This problem display only If I encrypt device on stock ROM, when I flash without encrytion, twrp flash LineageOS normally.
Seems like full disc encryption is not working in general. Its reported https://jira.lineageos.org/browse/BUGBASH-253
I am also quite sure that this bug was already in cyanogenmod and also reported there.

No, I am sorry and searching by myself. I hope that one day it will be official supported. Maybe you can give the issue an upvote.
Hi guys.
A bug related about encryption fail was solved and encryption is working fine on lineage-14.1-20170501-nightly-athene-signed.zip

There is no multirom for the plus. Only for the g4. On the plus use Dual Boot Patcher. It has a thread on Xda where you can find all info.
well i did try that but my phone wouldn't boot up!! I flashed lineage os as 2nd boot in external sd but it would not work!! that's why asking for a guide if there's something else which needs to be done. I first patched the file and then flashed the patched file but it would not work

The best guide is the original DualBoot Patcher thread on XDA. Google it. Prefer the internal memory (or best, the /data partition) as the external memory is painfully slow.

[Solved] Problem writing the Loader.img file

Hello everyone
My XT1572 after a hard-drive time has been hoping for a method to write the Loader.img file to the memory card. However, I can not write the Loader.img file to the memory card successfully. I have tried some software, some memory cards, some computers but all have the same result. The software has successfully written. But the result is many unformatted partitions. I do not understand what the reason is.
A friend of mine advised me to try to write the loader.img file on win8.1 32 bit and my phone woke up.
You won't be able to read the the card with windows since it uses a different file system structure.
Posting in 2 different spots will not get you answers faster. I'd suggest you stick to the main thread about this

I found on the internet that many people are like me and they do not understand the cause. So I decided to create a separate theme for it
Try using a 32GB SD Card. Because the Original Loader.img was created on 32GB SD card.
Loader.img is good - I'm sure. If you want I can make xt1572 RetEu, 6.0.1 and upload here.
I haven't stock rom but It does not matter(i think). @Mun123

If I use this Loader.img, then I could flash (CLARK_RETUS_6.0_MPHS24.49-18-8_cid9_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml) for example as I have the XT1575, and wouldn't need to use the (CLARK_RETLA_DS_7.0_NPHS25.200-15-3_cid12_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml) file and then flash the XT1575 6.0 modem?
And then also... once I'm on (CLARK_RETUS_6.0_MPHS24.49-18-8_cid9_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml), I can just jump str8 to LineageOS 14.1? I don't need to upgrade to the latest stock version right? The modem doesn't change as long as I'm Marshmallow?
All custom roms haven't any Moto Nougat sources.
Users on stock Nougat need to downgrade baseband(modem).
Users on stock MM can simply flash any custom 14.x. @Bwangster12

Okay thanks... so if I flashed the LA 7.0 I'd have to flash the 6.0 modem for my region over it. If I used the 6.0 Loader in this thread, I could use the latest 6.0 firmware for my region... and then jump to 14.1?
If you have working system - You don't need and shouldn't use the loader.img.
Just flash modems for your region
or
Flash stock MM without: bootloader, gpt, oem commands. @Bwangster12

Hi, I've installed lineage 14.1, rooted then reverted back stock rom(6.0). It worked fine until the update. So now, phone is completely dead no fastboot. If connected to the computer Qualcomm HS-USB QDloader 9008 is showing up in device manager.
Came across this thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/help/solved-hard-brick-moto-x-style-xt1572-t3693860) and download loader.img and followed the steps, but...
i'm having the same problem with burning the img file in win32 disk imager. It is creating multiple partitions and if install the sd card in my xt1572 it does not do anything for the steps in the above thread.
What I'm i doing wrong
is the other loaderMXS_6.img [email protected]
Thanks

LG G6 (H870) Error 7 "An assets failed" when trying flashing

Hi,
I tried flashing PixelExperience and BlissOS but both gave me error 7.
I downloaded the correct version for my model.
Tried with Stock kernel oreo and BeastKernel.
Is there a way to fix this issue?

Hey. While I don't have a rootable G6, I'll help you as best I can. Did you make sure to wipe everything (including Dalvik cache, cache, and firmware)? If not, do that whenever flashing any customROM. You may not run into problems immediately, but they'll show up soon, if you don't.
Tried but gives me the same error

I'm not sure, then. Sorry, but you might have to wait for someone who has an H870. In the meantime, try and work it out. I wish you the best of luck.

what TWRP do you use? For Android Q you need to use OrangeFox for Q. Because Android Q uses system as root. If you try flashing Q ROMs with TWRP for Pie, you will get errors
Flashed OrangeFox but still error 7, idk if I flashed OrangeFox Q
