S10+ (exynos) battery life and storage problem SOLVED - Samsung Galaxy S10+ Questions & Answers

Hello friens.
I do have some unanswered questions about my S10+, so the problem started after the second update of june, before that i was getting SOT on wifi & 4G about 4-5.5 (whatsapp, facebook, youtube, some light gaming) hours and still at 9 PM have 10-15% battery, since the update i struggle to get 3 hours on wifi mostly, the 4g drains the heck out of my battery. I've factory reset my phone still nothing.
The second issue its with my storage ive noticed that before the reset i was at 68GB out of 128, after the factory reset 32/128 GB.
My question what was the extra 30Gb , i dont store photos-movie-music on phone, the programs are basic FB, YT, Whatapp Reddit, some games (light ones).
Can someone figure out this one.

First, the SOT could be something related to your network antenna. If there is any issue with it and the phone needs to connect to a antenna that is more far away, it needs to consume more power so that the signal have more strength to reach the antenna.
About the storage. Could be the cache. FB, Whatsapp and stuff could be the cause. Whatsapp storage your videos and images on your device (whatsapp could storage a few GB, if not more). Could be the cache of the phone. Could be pictures you deleted in the gallery and it is in trash (it is still in the phone but aren't deleted yet).

Update : I just got the july update and its all back to normal, the SOT are 4-5 tops hours.
I guess the update resolved the issue.

Battery life miracle.

Completely stock Gingerbread 2.3.3 with no fiddling whatsoever not even Root.
OK I use my phone I would say about medium Calls, texts, pictures etc. and various apps like Twitter and Facebook that are set to poll as much as possible. GPS, Btooth, WIFI are always set to on. Now I usually get a day out of the phone which I am very happy with as I do not use it in my sleep it can charge up then. I recently did a full reset and format of both internal and external SD after which I reloaded all my apps and set it back to the way I had it. I did the clean as I was getting some FC's and hangs.
After this the phone was appaling. Battery discharging in 6 hours, re-starting of its own accord and generally sluggish. The two nights ago I sign out of eBay and Skype then charge it as normal. The result is below. I am not saying this is down to Skype or eBay but something dramatic has happened as I still have 40% charge left.
I am also using a GPU intensive live wallpaper. Solar System 3D Pro.
Any ideas as I would like to be able to do this all the time.
No great surprise, both are well known battery hoggs. Glad you got it sorted.

Battery drain fixed

Well I'm not sure what to make of this but here goes.
My wife and myself have both got n4 mine is black hers is white both sim free UK phones.
I've been checking every time I get home from work what her sot is and what percentage battery she has left against mine and she always wins.
Example my phone would have say 50% battery and 2.5 hours sot and my wife would have say 70% with 2.5 hours sot.
So I thought maybe it's because she's at home with good 3g radio and I'm in a medium 4G area at work?
I've been through every setting on both the phones to see if one had something turned on that the other didn't but no and in some cases she had more things on that me ie haptic feedback was on and mine was off on everything calls text messages everything.
I planned on swapping batteries to see if that was to fault.
But I decided to do a factory reset as the only hassle I would have would be to re enter my WiFi password and all my apps would download automatically which isn't a big deal.
And now as we speak or as I type I have 71% battery with 2hrs sot unplugged since 7.30am it's now 15.50.
So what has caused my battery to be so bad?
I've been through all my apps and there is nothing abnormal and my wife even had stupid ones like candy crush and talking Tom that she has to feed and take out for a pee!
Anyone else noticed that there battery has got worse ?
i had issues with lock ups and poor battery because of google services (google now in particular). i ended up removing all the services - uninstalling the updates (play, gmail, music etc) and then re applying them.
That was a week ago and since then the phone has been smooth and rapid without the silly lock outs.
ALSO, when booting i have to goto the multitask screen and end all otherwise i cannot get wifi and the phone runs like a dog for a while.
I hoping that these are fixed with the next firmware that im still waiting for in the uk

Nexus 4 Battery Drain, Overheating, Random Restart, Lollipop to blame?

Sup, people. I'm writing to see if this is a problem that's new to Nexus 4 users.
I remember upgrading my Nexus 4 to Android Lollipop a couple months back. Unfortunately, although I really like the OS, several things have started to happen since its acquisition:
- Phone gets extremely hot. Even with a few background apps: WhatsApp, Google Chrome, Calendar, ListenOnRepeat, 1.2 GB Memory Free
Random reboots out of nowhere
Device overheats and shuts down.
Radio signal drops
The last problem was solved by cleaning installing the Android Lollipop Factory Image. Others do not seem to have gotten better.
I even had a problem that the phone locked itself (it created a PIN) and I was forced to factory reset it (All pics lost! => Enabled Google Drive backup)
I had a problem today:
The battery, while charging in my laptop was draining faster than it could charge: Was using 3G, Bluetooth, WhatsApp, Google Chrome. Enough for the phone to start getting hot and to drain the battery.
Does anyone have a solution?
Sorry for any grammars or cohesion problems. 1:53 AM and very sleepy

Very high GPServices drain after updating S8 to AQI7

Hey.
Has anyone else noticed this - very high GPS drain after updating to the AQI7 update? I am on the European Exynos model and usually GPS is sitting at 1-3% usage at most after a normal day. Today it's closer to 10% with almost 300mah drained within 10 hours. That's more than half of my screen time usage.
Going through Better Battery Stats, I saw that *net_scheduler* with Google Services under it was forcing about 2000 wakelocks in the span of 2 hours. Sometimes it appears under another app name, but after the update it seems to have risen up extremely high and is likely causing the drain as the system shows GPS to be 2nd in battery stats.
I tried wiping delvik cache, system cache from settings, re-logging from google accounts, re-installing the google play services updates, and even enrolled in the GPS beta and am now using it. The phone is charging now and I will see if the problem continues in the next few hours.
If it does, I wonder if there is anything else I can do about it other than factory reset? I don't want to go there, but I definitely will if need be.
It's so tiring to see this issue pop-up on all Android devices I have had so far after 5.0 came out. It's like a plague that cannot be avoided with any device...
Did this happen to anyone else after the last update, or is it just me for some interesting reason?
Thanks for reading.
same problem here
OK, after the last full charge the phone is behaving quite well and now indicates 94% deep sleep, which is not bad at all.
What might have done it is switching to Google Play Services BETA. If you cannot find it in play store, use this link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.gms
Scroll down and enroll in the beta. Check the link again after a few minutes and hit the Update button. Charge your phone and see how it does.
I will have to observe how drain goes over the day tomorrow, but for now with 4g and wifi on at my home, I have 2% drain over 3 hours and a bit over. Wakelocks still occur but they are in the 0-1% range of waking up in this period of time, compared to the 6-7-8% of the net_scheduler wakelock from GPS the previous day. If it stays like this I think the problem could be marked as solved.
Update: After last night: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bwg-0GLG0gP9NDJQd2NYSkZ3V0U
About 2% of the drain was lost during me sleeping with WiFi and LTE on. Maybe GPS beta really sealed the deal.

Why is my battery life so bad?

hi everyone,
I'm hearing praise everywhere about how great this battery has been with people getting at least 8 to even 12 hours of SOT (average seems to be 10).
so how come my device clearly is much worse in this regard?
I activated black theme wherever I can, turned of scanning for BT and WiFi , use low brightness, the apps I use are not intensive AT ALL (no gaming, no Facebook) , I wiped the device cache, I resteicted battery usage of 155 apps .
it seems that Google play services is somewhat of a problem (which is why I cleared play services , Google and play store cache, as well as resteicted play services usage data), however it isn't even the biggest battery drain . also turned off face unlock.
I tried turning adaptive battery as well as advanced optimisation options on and off but it didn't seem to make a difference.
What could be the reason for the bad battery life?
can you help me? I want to like this phone but it's impossible when I get consistently less than 6h SOT when already making so many compromises (whereas other people seem to be doing no tweaking and get 11 hours)
http :// imgur.com/a/wCjd3kR (no other format available BC I'm a new member)
Also: why does my wallpaper change every time I reboot my phone?
I wasn't doing to well, then I reset my phone and it has been insanely good. I would say I started stock with adding limited apps. I suspect myfitnesspal was hurting my battery so I use the browser version. Right now I have 60% left, been on for 30 hours with 3 SOT. Aiming for 3 days which I have never done on a stock phone.

So what you're suggesting is that I should do a factory reset and then don't use the OnePlus Switch app (like I previously did) to restore my apps but instead install one by one?
I mean I get it that apps like Strava use up a lot of battery but I don't use it very often and with this light usage I expected twice the SOT tbh..

Yes. I've seen all sorts of crazy reports from people using the switch app. Lag, crashes, now bad battery.
You're so much better off just starting fresh, or using some other back up solution.

Thank you. I will try that on the weekend after monitoring battery life for the days till then. Maybe it randomly resolves itself?
But drag-and-dropping music from my PC (or from my phone to the PC) on the device shouldn't cause corrupt data, right?
Also restricting all these apps and using different kinds of in-built battery savers shouldn't cause reduced battery either, I suppose ? It would be quite counterintuitive.
Sry for asking such naive questions, I'm not very tech-affine
when play services show up as battery hogs the problem is often not within play services but some app using play services.
to save battery many connections (like push notifications) are handled by Google services instead of all apps keeping separate listerners/connections alive. This saves tremendous amounts of battery but makes troubleshooting harder, as the app causing the drain is not showing up under battery stats.
I would also recommend a fresh start.
Don't worry about it so much. 6h SOT is amazing. Set your phone up the way you want it, with the widgets, apps, screen brightness that you want. When was the last time you needed a phone to last three days? I use my phone whenever I want throughout the day: some navigating, some calling, have the screen on for 3-4 hours, and have 30% left when I get home in the evening after 12+ hours off of the charger. Just enjoy the phone.

The last time a phone lasted me three days was my Oneplus One, it had better battery life than this.
I'm enjoying the phone but I want what I paid for and it is not such ****ty battery life.

I practically restricted all apps in both battery and notifications, could that be an issue?
When I factory reset should I not restrict so much this time around (as well as not use OP switch)?
I do not have any app restricted and get during 2 days with 6+h sot.
Also restricting location to GPS only does help save battery. Google now on always listening also drains faster. If you want to use all comfort features that is fine, but you will not get as long battery life and sort compared to ppl not using that stuff
Do a factory reset and then only install the minimum apps you need. when after two days your battery stats do look nice you now know that the device is fine, you can then add more of your apps and monitor what happens.
I personally use titanium backup instead of switch but that requires root.

I don't really have "a lot of comfort features". I battery restricted most of my apps, use blackmode everywhere, hardly receive notifications anymore, and only use low brightness. I'd expect more than 5h SOT.
I just hope it's not the device

I also forgot to mention, I have it set on battery saver, but I mean, I have listened to music thru the speakers for 40 mins, listened to music for about 45 mins over bluetooth, I have a garmin watch that syncs texts and calls, I have real no major compromises (also not rooted, which I have always been a root junky) and I am at 51% with 3.5 SOT with 1.5 hours of voice calls to. I will mention, I froze Chrome and am using Via as my browser, not sure if that is helping or not either.

Before I reset, I was getting like 3 SOT... Lol
Give the reset a go.
Yeah i hear different reports as well. Im coming from a galaxy s7 edge with max 3 to 4 houra sot.
In the same useage i now have 9 or 10 hours sot. I can easily use the phone 3 days. Never using battery saver btw.
That is with youtube, music, facebook, whatsapp, stream blmusic bluetooth to car, snapchat and plain camera. I really am impressed and sometimes worried because i dont know when to charge lol.
I do hope you will get things right. Google account can bleed your battery with syncing in the background all the time. It was a common problem in android 3 till 7 for the devices i had. Sow restricting sync options for your google account may do a little bit for you? Good luck mate, if i can do anything for you, let me know..

Another factor to battery life is your carrier connection. Who do you use? And how is your reception? Bad reception can easily drain a battery.

I guess everyone's definition of "****ty battery life" is different. What you described sounds like pretty awesome battery life at that much SOT and a full day's battery life.

Yeah, that was my OnePlue One though. My OP6T has worse battery life now. How is 5h awesome when the average user of the same phone gets twice the amount without restricting all of their phone functionality?
I am also getting around 5 to 6 SOT... so i decided to facory reset and then just add my daily apps ... hopefully it will get better
I work 8 hours a day, during that time im using wifi, then i drive home and do some things outside sow i use 4g connection.. Then im back home and using wifi again.
I think the biggest difference with you guys and me is, i deleted all the system bloatware apps.. I only kept google calandar and play store. It could be that all theae apps i deleted, is causing you guys a poor batt life, because i havent read anybody saying they did the same.
Drag dropping music from your pc is no prob.
