I was moving files with ES file Explorer then I got an error "move task failed". So I went to google to find what went wrong and found something "enable Documents in the Settings> Installed App" but sadly I wasn't able to find the Documents App to enable it.
I'm using Xiaomi Redmi 7A global 11.0.7 magisk rooted.

Now I can install .apk files from Chrome/Dropbox /es file explorer!!!!.................So I did this by accident I was trying to mess with the keyboard setting in the root folders and I got a setting popup.
1. You must have root
2. Es File explorer / turn on Root Explorer
3. navigate to /Device/System/app/
4. all I did was click on BuellerIME.apk and a pop up settings menu came up, from there a settings menu with unknown sources in it appeared. I checked unknown sources and that was that
anyone else confirm ? i only ask because i am on my second ftv ( bricked the first one some how )
Just tried it an it didn't work for me. When I launcher the app it only gave me the option to "Install" and said "Would you like to update this system application..." so I backed out. I'll stick to the other method.
It didn't work for me either. After I clicked the settings, no further menu appeared so that I can't check unknown.
I read O was supposed to have a proper file manager, but cannot find it...
Settings > storage > files
But I read this was supposed to be a stand alone app in the app drawer...
Speaking of which, I cannot see any longer Solid Explorer on the left menu and also if I try to run an APK it errors out
I can see that with Android Oreo there is a new section to install from Unknown Sources; but do apps need to update to show up in the list? For example I use Solid Explorer as my file manager and so am used to installing apps from there. Now it won't let me and I have to do it from the Downloads app. Annoying!
If you go to settings, apps & notifications, advanced, special app access, install unknown apps you should be able to allow it for your file manager, if that's what you want.
If you want to install from your file manager, tap the apk while your in your file manager and Oreo should ask you if you want to allow it from your filemanager.
Edit: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73623948&postcount=11 this guy had the same issue I guess.
I don't see it in that menu. That's where I was looking already. I only have some google app and facebook.

I just installed and opened the solid explorer, choosed a apk file, solid explorer starts with the menu: open with..., I choosed packet Installer and Oreo ask me if I want to allow to install unknown sources from solid explorer. I don't know what's the problem. You should uninstall and reinstall the solid explorer and start from the beginning, if that fails for you for whatever reason.
After updating to Android O it's unable to install APK from 3 party file apps like solid explorer app

Android O does not have the "Unknown Sources" option in settings. Instead, apps like Chrome and Solid Explorer can be allowed to install applications individually. Check under Apps > Solid Explorer > Install unknown apps (Set to allow)
Yes u said it right but it seems solid explorer doesn't have such options

Attached a couple of screenshots for your reference
If solution by @legendavey does not work for you , try updating solid explorer.
Hey, I am not able to set my own music files as a ringtone, I tried to move them to different directories etc but there is still just a "Recorder" when I open "choose local ringtone" any suggestions?
can you upload a screenshot or video record? so we can what it looks like when you try and add a ring tone.
also are you on stock or AOSP?
completely stock, miui 10
I had the same problem. Have you removed the Mi File Manager app?
I had initially removed the Mi File Manager app through ADB debloating and after that I couldn't pick a local ringtone (only saw the 'Recorder' option like you did). Once I reinstalled the app, I could select a local ringtone using the Mi File Manager app option, and after that, the selected ringtone showed up under Settings > Sound & Vibration > Ringtone & Notification Sounds.
Hope this helps.

I have the same problem.Given I debloated my phone and removed the Mi File Manager. I instead use ES File Explorer and when I try to set custom ringtone by going to Sounds & Notifications which then takes me to themes app then using ES File Explorer to select the Custom Sound,it gives me the wrong file type error. Please tell me how to overcome this without reinstalling the Mi File Manager.
Sounds or music must be moved to the corresponding folders: "Notifications" or "Ringtones" in the internal memory.
