phone wont boot may be bacause of persist.img - Google Pixel 2 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

hello i need some help i had a problem with pixel 2 xl camera. so on pixel 3 thread i saw deleting the persist.img and reflashing android 9 solve the issue. so tried it but after deleting persist.img and reflashing android 9 my phone didnt boot. i flashed all version with all methode. but all process completed but phone wont boot stuck on google logo or goes back to fastboot mode. i can flash twrp and install custom rom but it wont boot. i think problem is with persist.img , so ineed persist image of pixel 2 xl. to extract persist.img u must have twrp . on twrp u must type adbshell on cmd and type dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/persist of=/sdcard/persist.img then you will have persist.img on your internal storage. please help me

What steps did you take to get this working? I think I have a similar issue that may be fixed by redoing my persist.img.

Hey, looks like your persist partition is corrupted. Download persist.img from here:
https://xiaomifirmware.com/download-link/?dlm-dp-dl=7270
Move it into the root of phone storage, which means not into any folder. If u are on Mac, use android file transfer, if windows, phone should appear in file explorer. Boot into TWRP using
fastboot boot [path to twrp.img]
Go to advanced—> terminal and execute
dd if=/sdcard/persist.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p27
Reboot the phone. Now it should be working perfectly!

i used this to restore my mi a1. only flash /persist image.
if your persist partition is corrupted
than you will notice that your phone will automatically reboots in under 60 seconds
To restore persist partition download persist.img
fastboot boot to twrp
and copy persist.img file to root of phone storage
now open terminal in twrp and give the following command
dd if=/sdcard/persist.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p27
this will restore your persist partition and fixes the issue of reboot
but be careful if u are a newbie, best option is just go to mi service center & let them restore ur phone.

yeah, and you are not rooting your phone just temporarily booting in twrp.
Everyone who installed RR is having the same problem i guess, normally custom roms don't touch persist and use their own mac.
also did you make a backup before flashing any custom rom. If you did then just flash persist.img from there.
or
try this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-a1/how-to/easiest-quickest-to-fix-wifi-custom-t3779040.
Follow steps carefully DO NOT DELETE THE FILE, just the lines in wlan_mac.bin. (this one is easy & u don't have to use dd if u are not familiar with it)

bro just tell me one thin after doing that can i reflash stoc rom with mi flash tool as normal and everything will be fine or not, can i use my mi a1 as non rooted phone or not... please replay me bro
I had the same problem as you and i fixed it properly only by flashing again stock rom through Mi flash
Run Mi flash as administrator and flash all and lock
This will erase everything in your phone, so backup your files before.
This worked just fine for me now i have normal mac address for WiFi and Bluetooth hope it will work for you too.
thanks the developers whose are giving me some time for my problem

u need to flash persist only if it's corrupted means if your phone is rebooting under 60sec and WiFi doesn't connect.
first tell me what was the problem and what steps u followed exactly.
for edl mode #
fastboot oem unlock
fastboot oem edl
cmd gives that error sometimes but phone still goes into edl mode your phone will power off but notification light will be blinking.

Did that many times brother but it is still stuck in bootloop. The problem is that i have damaged EFS Partition. Ihave tried installing ROM through TWRP and also through fastboot with miflash. When i enter in Mi recovery i get message of " NV data corrupted".

You need to fix the partitions i think (idk how, but try on TWRP, there is a option to fix partitions) or in last case with fastboot i think its possible

I am not sure how to do that. But i have searched a lot on internet but can't find any solution.
this could help
Download stock rom and upack to the C:
copy this files from adb to the rom https://cs5-2.4pda.to/16762384/05.png?bc48fd2c50cba18a8da8778c9cdc19a9
run flash_all.bat
DONT USE FLASH_ALL_LOCK.BAT IF YOU FLASHNING GLOBAL ROM ON K20, THATS BRICKED YOUR PHONE...
If non of the above works than you can try this: https://romprovider.com/2020/03/xiaomi-mi-9t-imei-repair/
I know that i used something very similar when rebuilding EFS on my old Mi A1 and it did work. Though i didnt try it on Mi 9T because i didnt need it yet.

Ok brother. Let me give it a try.
Hey Bro, don't worry at all! It's because of EFS Corruption and you have to clear the partition and then flash ROM again with fastboot!
Boot into TWRP recovery.
From TWRP’s main screen, select Advanced » then Terminal.
Type the following commands in terminal (one by one):
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modemst1
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modemst2
Reboot device.
go to TWRP, Flash ROM

Find device storage corrupted your device is unsafe now.

So I unlocked bootloader on my redmi note 7.
Then I flashed twrp and rooted my device.
Then I flashed pixel experience but it stuck on the Google logo after reboot. I tried factory reset in twrp but it didn't work.
So I restored the backup I did before flashing pixel experience.
And then my phone stuck on bootloop.
So I booted into fastboot mode and flashed the fastboot rom and it worked. I have successfully unbricked my device.
But now it shows "find device storage corrupted your device is unsafe now"
Everything works fine except I can't turn on find device and also can't install miui ota updates via twrp.
(And also when flashing twrp for the first time when I reboot it showed the stock recovery because I hadn't flashed disable dm-verify because when I am in twrp and try to mount my system to my computer my phone doesn't show up in the computer. So first I copied the disable dm-verify file then again flashed twrp then booted into twrp and then flashed disable dm-verify. I don't know if it is necessary to format data when flashing twrp. Maybe that's why the problem occured. I don't know.)
Please help.
Thank you.
Extract persist.img from official fastboot rom and replace the existing persist in Orangefox.
At least it helped me.
Persist.img flash through recovery gonna fix the problem but forget about Netflix and L1!!
Personally speaking had that problem with corrupted message pop up every time i reboot my device and when i flashed the persist.img through OrangeFox recovery i lost L1 forever (and there is no turning back).
If you wanna try that method i highly suggest you to Backup your Persist Partition first.
Yes, but isn't the original persist partition already lost, when you get the "storage corrupted" message?

I tried may hours to define the problem's source but i think that's unclear in every situation. Others say that's a persist.img corruption while others had that problem with Mi Account corruption, etc.
Mine corrupted message came when i tried to flash Global Official MIUI in a EU variant device through normal process that doesn't engage any kind of Persist partition rewrite.
I had a backup of persist.img and flashed original from EU fastboot file and finally after that I repatch my old persist.img. The first time i did that process my device and L1 worked properly (even that spam message disappeared) but after a long time that I tried same process for same problem i completely lost my L1 [strange af!].
So, a safe process to try now is to flash back the official fastboot image of your variant (Erase + Lock [for L1]) through MiFlash tool and check that corruption message if it goes away (be careful to flash the correct fastboot image or you will get a a bricked device).
In conclusion it's Extremely advisable to keep a full backup of your partitions and especially Persist partition if you wanna flash Roms and generally unlock bootloader!
I use twrp recovery
I don't know about orange fox recovery

Question [SOLVED] Nothing Phone (1) Keeps Rebooting After Persist Partition is Erased

I see the splash screen with NOTHING logo and "Powered by Android" at the bottom. After 15 seconds or so, the phone reboots.
This started happening after I erased the persist partition using fastboot.
A few things I tried which didn't work:
Sideloading a full 1.1.4 hotfix zip file using adb.
Factory resetting from the recovery and fastboot.
Format persist partition as ext4, "fastboot format:ext4 persist".
I don't see persist.img included in the firmware release. Can anyone extract the persist partition from their Nothing Phone (1)? I can flash persist.img and hopefully get the phone to boot properly.
Or if it's possible to enable diag mode from the recovery image. I don't know if it's possible to set sys.usb.config to diag, adb on recovery. I took a qcn backup beforehand. I can just restore that.
Thanks to @ayed78 providing persist.img from their device, I was able to boot into Android. I restored the qcn backup to restore the IMEIs and therefore restore cellular network connectivity.

Great! Keep me posted.
Posting a short version of my reply here, from https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/how-to-unbrick-nothing-phone-1-fastboot-bootloop.4501439/
I've tried this on my Nothing Phone (1) EEA version which bootloops. It doesn't work. Whilst booting from the A slot, there's the 15 seconds of splash screen, then it reboots, same as before.
Flashing to A slot was completed without any errors. I don't think this super image includes the persist partition. My phone started bootlooping after I erased the persist partition. Can anyone upload their persist partition for the global or EEA version?
