Coming from a Note 8, I always felt it was a bit too big in my pocket pants as I usually place it inside my right pants pocket. Samsung was offering a sweet discount on the new Z Flip 5G, so I sprang for it. When folded, it's a bit thick but fits inside my pocket like a champ. The phone itself is very nice looking, I got the Mystic Bronze. It's very striking in appearance, jewel-like. Definitely a fashion statement. I've had strangers ask me what phone it is. They are invariably surprised at the folding aspect of this phone. This is the future, everyone will be sporting a folding phone in a few years. I'm just living in the future today.

It's a great phone. I don't know why you wouldn't want it. Yes, it's expensive but it's worth every penny. Love this phone.
So, I've had it for a week, coming from a S9+, I love it. As has been mentioned, you can get some significant discounts, I would not have pulled the trigger without them.
I read a lot of reviews and felt pretty informed by the time the phone arrived; however, there are some things that I have learned in the past week.
The Screen - The reviews cover screen quality and I was not disappointed. Two things I did not encounter in any reviews that have been eye opening. First, polarization. When viewing the phone vertically the screen is almost unreadable while wearing polarized glasses. This is annoying, once rotated beyond 45 degrees it is usable and is perfect when viewed horizontally. For me, this is a problem when driving as I use the phone for GPS, not a big deal, but I did have to go find a new phone holder for the car that will support the horizontal mount. Also, this makes quick checks of the phone and prolonged use out in the sun a challenge, either take off the glasses and squint, struggle to see through the polarization, or flip sideways. Second, the screen protector. Many reviews mentioned the screen protector and all seemed to present a reasonable level of durability, although, Samsung seems to expect a replacement during the life of the phone. Unfortunately, within two hours of getting the phone I had inadvertantly gouged the screen protector. I tried to open the phone by sliding my thumb in the middle and flipping up (thumbs up). My thumb nail (just cut the day before, definitely not long) dragged across the screen as the phone opened and left a long dent. It was still there the next day when I put my own screen protector on (yeah, I know, Samsung says don't do that), but now I couldn't show it to you if you asked. Samsung's screen protector may have eventually 'self-healed' but I wasn't waiting around to find out. My recommendation, get a removable but strong screen protector, just be careful when you take it off, don't take off Samsung's. Finally, just to reiterate what was in the reviews, the screen is a fingerprint magnet, your own screen protector will help with that.
App Pairs - Something I used once in a while on my S9+, app pairs are not available on this phone (right now), but the rest of the Edge features are still there. There is now an ability to switch into split screen mode with applications from the edge bar, it is confusing and more difficult to execute. What is worse is that the phone and OS/UI will support them, SmartSwitch copied my existing pairs over, I just can't create new ones. Samsung, give me back my app pairs, please.
That's about it, as I said, it has been great so far, I'll update this is I come across anything else.

Hey everyone...
I love just about everything with my new S6 Edge...but I have to say that the narrow metal band around the sides starts to dig into my hands after using it for a while, and gets uncomfortable. I am kind of wishing I went with the regular S6 now...
I guess I could get a case to help with this...?? I usually hate cases and would want something absolutely minimal..maybe even just a bumper case.
Thoughts or recommendations?
That sucks...I hope I don't have this issue. Also, why not go exchange it?
having same issue with me though is weneva i type n use one hand n say i get to the other side of the keyboard i smash into another letter...I believe a case will help i just ordered mine.

Which cases did you go for?
The Edge is so think and slippery it's probably a bad idea to carry it naked. I have big hands and it does feel awkward to hold. I'm debating if I won't to go get the clear T-Mobile case at cost or save a few more bucks on Amazon. I just want something now. As far as going with the S6 I just like the look of the Edge a lot better.
I went for the spigen neo hybrid it provides not only a nice grip but also protection it also comes with a free screen protector. Should look into it
Same issue here. I was already going to send mine back because of scratches, but the more I use the edge, I'm thinking I'd be happier with a regular one. I'm torn because I think the regular one looks awful, where as the edge looks gorgeous. The digging into awful, I could probably get used to it, but I'm just running into little usability things here and there making it tricky for me to use. I use my phone a lot one handed in landscape mode, I barely ever use portrait view. I'm finding it's hard to grip one handed in landscape comfortably, and the screen ends up registering my fingers that are holding onto the phone since I need them to be a bit more tight and on the screen when im doing one handed. If it had a little more side to it , I dont think this would be an issue, and wouldnt dig into my fingers. Also it's a ***** getting off a flat table. I love the bubble effect the edge has on video though, really makes it pop. I'm afraid I'll be sacrificing too many positives for comfort and functionality.
This is the only thing that has me at a crossroads between both phones grr,
I'v read a lot about the S6 Edge being sharp after continuous use and talk about the color problems with a pinkish discoloration that only effects the S6 Edge. However the price is probably justified, I mean how many phones look this sleek and eye catching? Probably saves me from spending it on other random **** so might as well invest, plus developers will be working on tonnes of additional features for the Edge's capability, I think the stock features are just the start of great ideas.
However the cons about the regular S6 make me look back to the Edge ha it's a roundabout, I'll admit when I went into O2 UK and experienced the phone first hand I loved it, I own a Iphone 6+ and comparing it with the regular S6 minus the screen difference I found it hard to differentiate the two afar, the beveled edges and design positioning (speakers, power input etc).
The Edge gives a remarkable & memorable first glance I WANT IT feeling however the recent user reviews are wavering my urge to preorder the phone or purchase on-release. I'm not sure how the sharp edge where the glass meets metal will effect the user? I don't want to buy a phone that hurts ha i'm not buying a phone to experience pain after 20 minutes of use in one-hand, or isn't it as bad as first put?
I would hate regretting my decision in buying the Edge, I'm not a hate on apple person I have an Iphone and have owned many android devices mainly HTC and wanted to try out an Apple product, but I find it hard to tell the regular S6 apart from a IP6 apart from specifications.
In the end I'll probably go with my gut and purchase the Edge, the emerald color looks magnificent but there's been no answer on which carrier will stock it or when, hints on end of July but I can't wait that long ha, the black/navy looks amazing, black in the dark but a great navy hue in light is amazing, the fingerprint problem isn't a biggie, quick wipe on your shirt and it's sorted?
Any Edge users comment on the sharp issue or have experienced any discomfort in using the device?
--- I want it ))))
Yea its discomfort but a case should solve the problem. Its hard getting use to this phone as the screen pops out instead of the back. Also headphone jack on the bottom is weird to me. Other than that phone is a beast picture quality is amazing.
I use to have this problem with my note edge. Once you put a thin case on the phone it's feels amazing, almost like Samsung built the phone with the intentions of having a case on
Sent from my SM-N915V
I had a similar problem. The metallic edges I didntnfind were to sharp...but The thinness of the phone + a flat back + slipperiness made it kind of awkward to hold.
I have a spigen case that definitely made it more comfortable to hold. The edges are thicker and softer as well.
I was going to go caseless but I didn't want to take any chances. Once I put the below case on it its even better. I think it's perfect. Good Grip and minimal bulk.

Stupid Question about the case, It doesn't effect the usability of the Edge (screen) does it? I.E Swiping from the right/left
Thanks
Have any of you bought the bumper case by spigen? I am thinking about picking it up.
Other than the sharp sides, I don't really have anything bad to say about the phone. It looks stunning, has been nice and peppy, and battery life has been fine for me.

No issues what so ever with the case and the screen. Fits perfect.
OP, i warned people before the phone ever came out.. i posted what you're experience here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/s6-s6-edge-t3043748/post59649530#post59649530
i kind of got trolled and glad to see i was right...
guess all you can do is get a case to cover up those razor sharp edges :cyclops:
Man, this post kinda bothers me now about the Edge. I normally like to rock my phones naked, because I like showing off the beauty of my phones. Now I've got some thinking to do before making my purchase... I did order the slim case from Spigen, and it just came in today, but every single time I do put a case on my phones they only last a week before I can't stand them any more... Sigh...

My advice is to feel the phone for a few days and then return it if it's too bad. I know it doesn't sound practical, but not everyone will have the same experience. I hope it feels good for you!
yes better to try out both in person, me personally i loved holding the edge i didnt want to put it back on display haha
Worst case scenario, if you can't return it or exchange it, you get a slim case to improve comfort and grip on the edges. Best part is you don't lose the benefits of the curved screen, whether it's software features or just the look and feel of the curved edges. I'm really happy with my case.

Are you liking the extra space? Or do you find it too tall?
to me the size is great ...
many people complian about the finger print reader location , but i have no issues with it . my fingers auto-pilot to it now
I love it. This phone just looks too beautiful to put a case on but I sadly have to anyway.
Despite some minor issues, I do love the size of my s8+ and wouldn't want it any smaller. I like the YouTube movies in ultra wide etc etc.
Verstuurd vanaf mijn SM-G955F met Tapatalk
It's perfect ! I'm not sure I want to go back to a 16:9 ratio
Taller is bad for the s8+. It does not fit well in hoodie pockets and falls out too easily because of it. Bad idea.
The S8+ is so much more easier to use one-handed than my previous big phones. It also seems better balanced in terms of weight distribution. I always felt like I could drop my Note7/S7e if I didn't hold them "just right" where I don't have that sense of fear with the S8+.
I still look at it the same way as I first got it haha. I love it! Since I got used to the new ratio, 16:9 phones look too wide now. Many people made a big deal out of the finger print sensor placement, but when muscle memory kicks in, it's really not an issue. It's nice to see my phone already unlocked right when I lift it up.
Like it. Thinking of oneplus 5 though....
I deplete my battery just staring at my screen. I'm always trying to think of something to do on my phone just to give me an excuse to look at it. I wish my tv looked this damn good! Love the size!
Love the phone S8+, but what a horror to carry around. You can't just put it in your back pocket, cause of it may damage when you sit, cause of it's length. So it's not exactly a perfect 'mobile'. All so feels a little on the flimsy side build wise.

S8+ can't be too much worse than the standard S8, where Jerryrigeverything gave the phone a stellar review for durability.
Love the shape and size of the S8 - makes my old S7e look FAT!!!
First time I went with the smaller phone. I really love it. Since most things I do are reading and typing the added vertical space really helps a ton. I configured bixby button to toggle fullscreen to get even more content in the screen.
The exact opposite of what computer displays do. And I think it's the right direction. Most web content is vertical so are text and documents. And the ultra slim bezels are just beautiful to look at. Makes my 3t look really old in comparison :silly:
Loving it so far.
Lol at comments. Im gonna write something else. Far best phone ive used so far. Got original screen protector from Samsung to prevent thoes scratches people getting.
Im generaly getting around 5 hours SOT on heavy use 4g internet or 6-7 hours when mixed used when i dont watch video stuff - but when i do watch some of the video i got 7 to 8 hours tops. So battery considering 5.8 screen is satisfying.
I would like too get ram managment better thou. Mostly got 1,6 gb of ram available (with 500 mb reserved) even with disabled apps from Package disabler pro. That thing didnt do much better if on. movies plays superb there. Samsung internet browser best out there so far. And ive tested quite a few. android skin UI is improved, and me saying that who comes from Sony flasgships with one of the best android UI,s there is sure a compliment to samsung. Camera is like "this phone dont know how to make bad photo lol". I have little kid and so far after 3000 photos, i actually deleted 3 or 4 of them cause of bad quality, everything else were great. When it comes too sound quality, thats where samsung shines now too. Output is very strong. I was dj for years and i was into music production, and the output is really clear and very powerfull. Samsung really did exellent job there. So generaly, phone is really good, i just wish to get more free ram available. (all 1,5 - 2 gbs is most then enough for all heavy users.)
Phone suprisingly works well in one hand use. i can do roll down with my middle size hand easy.
Is it just me or this phone completely trash? Or Samsung fanboys can't admit it? I pre-ordered this phone day one. Been using for 2 months and has been lagging, crashing, freezing, restart at random times. One time I tried to pay with Samsung pay and restarted. The battery is trash and get depleted quickly by listening to music. The only going for this is beautiful infinity display. I replace this with OnePlus 5 real soon.
Dont like it. Too skinny and wrong aspect ratio. My s5 felt like a bigger screen due to the proper aspect ratio even tbough it was technically a lot smaller.
S3, Note 1, S4, Note 2, S5, Note 3, Note 4, S6 Edge+, S7 Edge and now S8... Beast of allll beasts... no one comes close.. Samsung all the way!!!

Nope, I still wish the top was chopped off to be 17:9 or really 16:9. Super tall does nothing for me except make the phone harder to hold and drop down notification shade.

I wouldn't say mine is complete trash but I do wish the phone was shorter. Not wider, just shorter.
Battery life is kinda bad compared to my S7 Edge was in the beginning.
Patiently waiting for Pixel 2.

this is a BIG phone - however once your used to the size you start to realise it isn't a problem to hold one-handed or to use. Thankfully the device is well balanced and not top heavy which helps a lot.
As its glass, even though its "stippled" it is a bit slippery in the hand though for me that's not as issue as i use a case.
If you've used a xiaomi mi max phone you'll know what's in store. Roughly the same. If you can handle a max you can handle the 20x
I`ve been using Mate 20X for two weeks now (it was Mate 9 before). For now its the best phone I've had experience with.
As for ergonomics - it is not as big as I was warring. One hand operation with inbox silicone case is no problem for me.
Mate 10 pro seems bigger in my wife's hand than Mate 20X in mine. I'm 6'4'' - so my hand is not small.
I think the size of Mate 20X is ideal for me. I don't want it bigger or smaller.
The only thing that sucks is selfie camera. Main Camera, screen, battery life is awesome.
I have a habit of resting the phone in my palm. The bottom of the phone secured-ish on a ledge create by resting on my pinky.
Noted that my ligament between my fingers has become sore.
So have used one of the free ring holders that I've accumulated over the years . Sticks onto the middle of the back of the cover. Seems to work nicely for me. Using this really nice, thin black, weaved texture case at the moment. Looks good with the good ring attachment stuck to the back in the middle.
Think I'll purchase one of the cheap ringd covers off Taobao to see how it goes like that too.
Lot of love for this phone.
1. handgrip feels ok..im 6 foot
2. need to look for replacement for car mount, if you are not ok with magnet, it will be rather limited choices
3. you can feel this in your pocket, uncomfortable to drive with
still loving this phone though ...good balance of phone/tablet
This is the biggest smartphone I ever use. Frankly, I did consider for a while before buy this phone as we know overall performance is undeniable only one issue for me is the size. Then almost a month that I use, have to accept that SIZE is really trouble some especially when I put it in pant's pocket whenever I walk or sit. However, the funny thing is because of the SIZE that make me fussy turn to be the best entertainment phone I addicted. Btw, One hand use I found that not an issue even I'm 5.5 fts tall.
I have agree that this the biggest phone I've ever used. I've had the Samsung Note series sense day one, and those were always considered monsters in size. Who knew that I'd be using a tablet sized phone, lol.
The phone is usable with o e hand, but it's meant to be used with two. I've noticed that over the years as pho es grew in size, I've developed a pain in my thumb from trying to do the one handed thing. With Mate 20 X, I e had to train myself not to this.

Meteor swipe is an app that is brilliant as you can reach your most used apps easily with the thumb.
Having a flip case also really helps as you can use the folds to hold in one hand whilst being able to increase the reach of your thumb. Three fingers holding the flap and pinky supporting the phone.

Companies patent things all the time that never see fruition. Obviously, Samsung is thinking about the next generation, like with any product. But I would take most of these patents and renders with a massive grain of salt.
I love it. I don't like that I paid so much for a device and Samsung's treating it like a 2nd class citizen. I guess with it's numbers it'll never get the official support that the S10/Note10 gets, but it still irks me. The S10 just got the DeX support that the Note10 has.. why not the Fold? Saw a story this morning that the Note10 and S10 get wireless Android Auto support.. why not the Fold? That type of thing. But I do love the device, no regrets.
Edit: Your Phone Companion now supports "Phone Screen" on the fold.
18 Days in with mine now, use it as my daily driver, no signs of wear or damage. I do look after it but then I look after all my stuff. Extremely pleased with it!
I'm on my second one now. Got one on contract then sent it back as the guilt of owning one was so bad. Anyway, got over the guilt and got another one on contract. It is such a lovely device, especially when you open it up and you are dazzled by the bright and colourful screen. If there is one thing I don't like it's the weight as it does weight down your pocket!
Love it! 9/10 Have had it since launch day in the U.S. and it is my daily driver. Fantastic piece of hardware. The only things that bother me are the top notch and slow to get updates. Other than that it performs flawlessly, looks great and has had zero problems. Yes it's damn expensive but it is cutting edge and I believe it to be the better design from the other folding phones we are now seeing. It's a keeper!
F*cling love this phone, a phone when I need a phone, a tablet when I need a tablet and DeX is brilliant btw!
A not perfect device but with unique features: no other foldable promised with pride on great shows has in fact still reached this model on the market .. I like innovations and I had already bought the Note Edge in 2014 and the Xiaomi Mi Mix in 2016 among others.., Galaxy Fold makes itself loved because at the same time it is a narrow phone and a tablet, and because it has the specifications of a top of the range
i Very love it
So far love it had it since Tuesday now Saturday I wear baggy Jean's so not a problem of it in pocket
I just bought one after umming and ahhing, I got a pretty good deal on a new one almost $1000 ( New Zealand Dollars) off retail as well as selling my old note 8 with 256GB dual sim.
I must say pictures do not do the device justice, it is simply gorgeous.
I also own a note 10 plus which i intend to keep as an office workhorse whilst the fold will be my " leisure" device.
I can imagine if the fold 2 came with an spen as well as the new flexible glass screen i wouldnt hesitate picking it up.
Overall im very pleased
I expected that Samsung will show the foldable version plus spen...but in unfortunately they didn't
no spen until foldable glass is thick enough to support it.
i really love it to be honest
Love it, have it now for 4 weeks and really really love it.

you like it or hate it. i like it, theres nothing better than a plastic back (i assume its plastic, right?)
no need for ugly cases making my phone even more thick.
i also like the missing chin, the navbar fills this place well. so the look feels symmetrical, sort of.
i found nothing annoying about the design.
this phone needs only a thin screen protector glass, then you good to go.
It has an aluminum back.
It has Corning Gorilla Glass 5, so no need for a screen protector.
Looks great in photos, can't wait to get it in hand.

Back is plastic. But phone looks great.
I have it in hand and cannot tell. I have read different reviews stating it's has a polycarbonate, solid aluminum or a aluminum coated back.
Either way, looking forward to the xperia 1 as I enjoy the form factor than the pixel 3xl.
Back is Polycarbonat. The Part round USB C connector is Aluminium.... I use the device few Weeks now
I really NOT recommend to buy this phone, because it's absolutely useless! After 4 month of continuous use, the phone produces various kinds of bugs. Quite often I unable to receive phone calls because the dual sim handling is poor. I often realise missed calls via operator message. Quite often the camera app unable to save a picture after it's triggered even if the phone is rebooted. "Stamina" battery saver makes more unstable the phone, it turns much less responsive, than "normally". This phone in use only 4 ( FOUR! ) monts, and the battery has to be charged twice a day despite the fact that it's not extremely used.
Even the materials used to build this phone are piece of sh*t, the blue painting has already went from the corners. The camera cover is made of PLASTIC, so it has already scrathed after a week of use.
What is also annoying, that the positions of the volume buttons. With this ratio of screen, it's pretty hard to use the phone with one hand, and it's difficult to push. Really funny that the phone has to be pushed to your face, because the position or poor quality of the ambient sensor lets to operate the touch screen while calling.
Summary, if you don't want to waste money for something that is only good for piss you off, DO NOT BUY THIS PHONE!!!

I used to love the old fashion line (SonyEricsson & early Sony Android devices, expecially Walkman), because there were build & sw quality behind the brand. Quick and useful phones, brilliant design, tons of cool custom made ROM (Cyanogen) in the past. Nowadays it's like sh*t for a lot of money, and there is nothing just a logo.
Don't worry, I've already changed (currently using xiaomi) . In my opinion a basic functionality of a phone is be able to make a call, but Sony could not provide this properly (at least this device). Poor housing, defective camera (even after restart), poor battery lifespan etc. I don't care the brand if a device is durable and suitable for a normal everyday needs.

Ericsson is past, Xperia is different state. If you are tasty man, you must love Sony. I bought it about 100$, almost new. In that case, everything is comfortable for me. Build quality i love, daylight cameras, sound, system, click voice, battery life is an average, it is one day, but for me it lasts from morning to evening. 10 Plus has better battery. And screen is not good, that's why you should try flagman model, if you have enough money, It costs much, expensive. What about xiaomi, it is only for less budget users, i don't like. You must not have a phone, which is not for you
