Is it correct that this receiver doesn't operate while being charged?
Mines only seems to work while on battery - as soon as I plig in the charger, it goes off.

Keep an eye on this thread. I have just charged my 236 up so need to let it run out of juice.
I'll post a result when I get to test it.
Just tried with my old Nokia battery.
With the mains charger plugged in, the unit is operating as normal.
Hope that helps.
Mine works fine whilst charging

I have to add to my posts that when I recieved mine (without plug adapters) I tried my charger in a 2pin - 3pin adapter and the charger wouldnt work.
I plugged it directly into the 3 pin socket and it is fine. Obviously the adapter wasnt making the correct contacts.
Just as a silly question, your charger is illuminating and the green charge light on the GPS is on isn't it??
I know some suppliers of these send the adapters out with them.
Holux 236 Slim
I have the Holux 236 Slim and the GPS works fine while plugged into the chargers that came with it (both A/C and car). It will not operate with other USB chargers however. It behaves just like you said. It charges while the GPS is switched off, but does not operate with either an A/C adapter or car charger from another device (like my Cingular 8125).
Also the cable that came with the A/C adapter looks like any other USB to mini-5 USB (in fact I have used it as one for my Cingular 8125), but it will not work as a USB cable with the Holux to connect it to my laptop as a USB GPS. Holux says you have to buy their special USB cable to make that work.
You may have a bad one. Mine works both ways.

I am afraid that may be the case my friends.
May be an idea to phone Holux if you havent already done so.
I need an extra car charger for my 236 and have tried universal ones. These don't work unless the 236 is switched off, because the 236 mini usb is somehow differant. I think when you plug in a universal car charger in the 236 it goes into mouse mode & switches off bluetooth.I did notice that if you only touched the mini usb ends together it worked ok.plugged all the way in no. I needed to hard reset to get it working . I have contacted holux Europe to see if i can buy an extra Holux car charger. Very annoying!
Echoing what others have said, universal chargers don't work. I've tried as well. Using the supplied car charger though, never a problem. I've used it on numerous long road trips, powered on and plugged in with the supplied charger without issue. Forgot it on one trip, and experienced the same concerns as others: didn't charge whilst on on a universal charger.
And, just in case the OP is interested, I'm using Mapopolis with mine.
That may be it then - I haven't tried it with that car charger that came with it, I was having the problem while charging it with my O2 XDA Mini's charger (same connection).
Why on Earth would that be though?

No offence, but it comes with a mains charger also. Why would you not use that??
Checking the details on them both, they both are 5vdc at 1 amp.
Just going by the connection being the same doesn't necessarily mean that the output voltages are the same.
I have a standard cigarette lighter in my lorry, only problem is, its a 24v connection and would oblitorate any 12v equipment in a split second. But it looks the same !!!
I dont mean to flame you, but if a charger is supplied with something, then why on earth not use it? After all, thats what its there for.

Why on Earth would I want to use up 2 plug sockets in my 4-way adaptor for 2 charges that are the same? (one for my phone and one for my GPS receiver).
Since either charger will charge either device, why not just have 1 plugged in, since I'll never actually need to charge both at the same time while in the house?

As I said, I wasnt trying to flame you and your point is taken but the whole purpose of this thread was to ask why it ISN'T doing what you thought it should, even though it charges. (As it should), LOL
If that makes sense, LOL
Ok then looking at the same point but from the other side, will the Holux charger charge the Wizard as it should??
Does anyone know if NFC and Wireless charging work together? Like if I were to put the qi system in and use one of these little NFC tags, will they work together?

That's a great question. If there is anyone with a QI charger and an NFC Tag that can test this and give us a definitive result, that would be fantastic!
I just read up a bit on the Nokia wireless charger (model DT-910) and it actually has a feature that launches an app via NFC, when you place it on the wireless charging stand. I'm not sure if they just basically built an NFC Tag into the charger but if so, that would prove that wireless charging and NFC are able to work together.
Unrelated, but I couldn't get my S4 to NFC with my Nexus . . . yes both had the NFC batteries in!

I asked the seller of this kit on eBay - he says they're unlikely to work together. Still, that's inconclusive either way until someone actually tests it and reports back.
I have samsung charger and samsung back and I can confirm that the NFC sticker on the pad is NOT working

Hmm - I'm using the Nokia charger (DT-900) with the Samsung back, and it charges fine. The phone's NFC is working (I can use NFC tags). The charger doesn't have a NFC sticker on it, so can't confirm whether wireless charging *and* NFC work at the same time
Oh yeah nfc still works with the Samsung back... just won't read the sticker on the charger
(Apologies for the bump, but I came across this thread, and had to issue a correction.)

The charger doesn't *have* an NFC sticker.
And NFC Task Launcher has been renamed to Trigger. One of the reasons, I'd bet, is because it can now be triggered by things other than NFC. For example, one of the triggers it has now is "charging" and you can specifically set an action to be triggered when wireless charging. So, really, the wireless charger doesn't NEED an NFC sticker!
I've got a Qi charger and have tried 2 different wireless charging receivers with my S4. When the first receiver was installed the phone would very rarely read an NFC tag. I then purchased another receiver which claimed to be NFC compatible. That one seems to cause very few problems reading tags.
The problem now is when the NFC tag is stuck to the Qi charger pad: under those circumstances the phone usually won't read the NFC tag unless I move it around a bit, and even then it doesn't always work.
This was the 2nd (NFC compatible) receiver that I bought:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151128038769?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
The original receiver was a gift, so I don't have a link for it. It has a white design, with no brand name on the label.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/QI-Wireless...S_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item565ce2d0d6
Try this one, I bought it and it works great. The second set of contacts are for NFC. Switched from one that was NFC compatible but you had to fight with it. This one is a major improvement.
I have galaxy s6 and Samsung original car mount
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EP-HN910IBUSTA
Nfc tag placed on this charger can't be read from s6.
If i place tag out of wireless charger, tag is good readed.
I have tried the same using S8 and it doesn't work simultaneously, QI charger and NFC, I put an NFC stick on the QI charger pad and it simply can't read the NFC, when I disconnect the USB cable from the charging station it reads the NFC.
Hi!
I have bought a new Anker 4.8A dual-port car charger. The one here: http://www.amazon.com/Anker®-USB-4-8A-Dual-Port-Charger/dp/B00B8M4IMK and it does not work in my skoda fabia ;/
The previous car charger of mine - the original samsung's one works flawlessly, the usb cable also isn't a problem, there are no issues with it.
I have no idea why it won't work, i was already moving the charger to the sides etc. in the socket and still nothing.
Any help would be appreciated
Sorry, mate, i COULD NOT RESIST:
Buy Porsche, your problem will gone
:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
seriously this time: check if:
1. socket provides voltage (LED on charger, if present, should light up. If not present, check if lighter is getting hot);
2. check the charger fuse (unscrew the show ring, the center pin is usually fused);
3. check the cable (if can be separated from the charger) with your PC;
4. check if the charger works with another device (other phone, mp3 player etc)
5. check if the charger spec says that it provides at least 1000mAh output

Contact their customer service and see they'd exchange one for you. I've got a RavPower dual car charger. Not any problems so far.

Have you tried both ports, also in Apple port? I am not really sure, but i think apple chargers also have bridged their data pins as Samsung has for original charger recognition. If you connect your s4 in a standard charger without this bridge, it will only provide 850mA instead of 1900mA, even if the changer is 2400mA max current as yours.
Mmmmmmm, your issue, it doesn't charge at all or it doesn't recognize the charger, or it just charges slowly?

form what I have read the only version out of the box that has that capability is the Verizon variant. You can purchase a pad that you stick on the back of the phone and attach to charging connector then you can do wireless charging otherwise no.
The last two are, for example, if you're using Micro USB now but are waiting for a magnetic cable in the mail to use as your primary charger.
I use only magnetic cable. USB is complicate to open for my nails (-:
I use also magnetic, China made, for 3$. Charges as expected - same as original USB.
Been using magnetic charger cable from day one, got the magnetic charging dock on day 3.
Haven't charged through usb yet.
Magnetic charging cable from day one for me too
