I need help Moving a Feature from a ROM to another - Samsung Galaxy J5 Questions & Answers

so, there are these 2 Nougat Samsung Experience ROMs, I'm trying to get the Screen Record feature from one to work on the other, so I pushed the 'ScreenRecord.apk' to the system and it appears on settings, but it needs a Quick Settings Tile to actually record, how can do that? what files do I need to copy from this ROM to the other? or, What are the responsible files for QS tiles?

You wanna port it to sep8.5 lite right??!
It's not possible it's just lite you can't even install themes on it bc it's lite
Prototype did that and seted a lot of limitations to make it lite!
Just use apps that is sooo easier than any thing!

Themes won't run because the app itself doesn't support J2 (i tried that and got the settings option and the app running but it said "it's not supported by J2 devices), but that doesn't mean you can't change anything
I currently have sep8.5 lite with Samsung email from odyssey, oreo samsung messages and Finder V8 from seperienceA8.
Also was able to get the settings for Screen Record .. and I can actually record with adb shell screenrecord
the only remaining thing is the tile
Edit: And I'm pretty sure there's a workaround for the themes thing (like tweaking build.prop) but I'm not interested to try that I don't need themes.

[Q] Different unlock screens?

Not sure what style lock screen my android install uses but it's the one like a rainbow shape that you drag downwards and it's awful as I keep finding the phone unlocked when I take it out of my pocket.
I'd like to change the lockscreen to either what I think is the Frodo one (sideways sliding icons for lock and volume/speaker mode?), or the X10 one which is like quarter circle swipe.
Is there some app (free ideally!) that will let me do this or a manual way I can do it if there's a source for necessary files (without too much grief).
I read that if I delete the htclockscreen.apk file then the phone will revert to the froyo one (as I use a froyo build), but when I try that with a file manager I can't delete the file - presume it's a permissions thing or something?
Thanks for any help!
ETA that most lock related apps I see in the market seem to relate to disabling locks rather than anything to change the one you already have.
Forgot to say I'm trying out Lockbot at the moment and it sort of works but it seems a little hit & miss.
In particular when you unlock the phone and it normally makes that little click sound (if you haven't turned that off of course), it sounds more like a machine gun before the lock screen comes on, and that worries me a little bit that there's something not right going on.
You could try a-lock from the Market, which is somewhat like S2U2
You could flash a cyanogenmod rom like this onetycoon cm7 comes with 4 different lockscreens ..or try simply lockscreen from the market..
Had the same issue of phone unlocking with the "arch style locker" so bought widget locker, which works perfect, it allows you to have different styles of lock screen & add widgets, cost next to nothing, I'd recommend it.
www.appbrain.com/app/widgetlocker-lockscreen/com.teslacoilsw.widgetlocker
But if you really don't want to pay for a lock screen, I've attached a different lockscreen for you to try.
Worked fine for me before I bought WL, see my sig for rom, but as always when changing system files, use at your own risk, tho there shouldnt be a problem.
The LS with 2 circles was extracted from a htc dhd build (free), the other pic is WLocker (paid)
Try if you like... don't try if you like, just an option
I feel CM7 may be your best shot, I use and love it! Very easy to customize.

Thanks for the replies dudes.
Will have a look at A-lock. And Simply Lockscreen (or did you mean it's simply called 'Lockscreen'?). Not being facetious there - just clarifying!
Kam333 - thanks for that file mate. Will check it out definitely.
I am now trying Wlocker as Lockbot was too erratic. Wlocker seems to be ok so I might end up buying it but I like to try out options first before deciding.
That Rom is tempting too I must admit but the bit about the high drain on BT standby concerns me a bit as I leave BT on all the time.
Decisions eh! But I appreciate all the suggestions, thanks.
Not sure how to use your one Kam - when I run an installer against the apk file it only gives be an option to UNinstall it, which I guess means it just maybe has the same name as the existing one. Am assuming once an uninstall is successful then it will allow me to install it, but why won't it let me remove the other one first?
I've tried that but it failed. Similar problem to not being able to delete the standard apk file from its directory either.
Hey
You need to push the 2 files to your system folder,
For the build I'm using, I placed the files in a folder [DL_update/root/system/app]
This goes on the root of your sd card then reboot,
You should check on your build thread for the name/path of the folder "dl_update" is specific to the build I'm using, the rest should be the same tho.
If you have any probs let me know.
Kam
Thanks - have tried doing that but with a file manager I can copy ok, but paste is not available for some reason when I try to overwrite the existing ones.
Thought I'd do it via the PC as well but that won't work as I can't see the folder structure on the phone itself, only the SD card.
I'm now trying Lock 2.0 which 'would' be great except that when locked, you can use the hard keys (home key and power key I think) to bring up menus, some of which can basically unlock the phone so despite having a better slider I still find it unlocked in my pocket, and doing stuff like trying to dial my mum while I'm having a swearing contest etc.
I can't find a menu option in the program to disable these menus but I'm sure they wouldn't have been stupid enough to make a decent lock app that is full of holes like that and couldn't be disabled?

Hey,
the lockscreen is a system file, you wont be able to modify/edit systems files without root permissions, you'll need to use a root capable explorer such as Root Explorer or ES in root mode.
or use the method in my last post.
if you view this & not logged into xda ive just pm'd you

I'm considering buying a G6 but want to ask some existing G6 owners a few questions

Yesterday, I found some time to try a retail demo G6 and compared to the Galaxy S6, however, the demo G6 I tried wasn't connected to Wi-Fi, so I couldn't test some things. out. Click "click to show content" below for my findings (taken from my Instagram post that I had copied before posting, since Instagram decided to screw up the formatting).

(I have a few questions for any of you who own a LG G6 or other LG phone running their version of Android 7.0 so expand the description if you want to see those questions)
I found a demo LG G6, and decided to try it out, to find out that...
LG actually uses the Google emoji from stock Android!!! Yes!!!!!
Unlike that Sam-suck Galaxy S8 that uses their crappy and hard to read emoji that I absolutely hate.
I also found that LG's version of Android also has custom font support. Hopefully it's actually using FlipFont, because if that's the case, I could load my custom Comic Neue font package that I have on my Galaxy Tab A and use that.
(Does LG's Android use FlipFont or another font system where I can easily create a custom font package to use there?)
LG's Android also has custom theme support, so hopefully there's a theme that can make it look like stock Android 7.0, but sadly, the demo G6 I tried wasn't connected to WiFi. I already know LG's custom launcher has 2 versions, one with an app drawer and one without.
(Is there a theme for LG phones that can make it look like stock Android?)
Another thing I didn't notice in reviews on YouTube is that the power button is combined with the fingerprint sensor. Nice!!
Plus, LG's Android does have user changeable DPI settings. Hopefully that setting doesn't only affect LG apps.
One thing I forgot to check is if LG's Android has a blue light filter, which CyanogenMod does have.
(Does LG's version of Android have some kind of blue light filter or "night mode"?)
Even then, I'm probably not gonna upgrade my phone this year, because I had already gone through so much trouble trying to sign back in to all my apps after transferring to the Galaxy Tab A WiFi+cellular, unless there is an Android app (that does not require root) that can actually preserve app data so I would be able to continue right where I left off after switching to a new phone.
With that, I am considering getting a G6 (in silver or black, 64GB) (either that, or I might wait for either the G7 or whatever the next OnePlus will be called) but want to ask some questions, mainly pertaining to the software experience, which is my main deciding factor when it comes to buying an Android device.
Anyway, just open the spoiler thing above if you don't understand why I'm asking the following questions.

I tried, but I couldn't find it.
Closest I found was a "Pixel" theme, but I think I might be able to combine that with Nova Launcher + one of those stock Android icon packs for 3rd party launchers + Google Gboard + a bunch of stock Android apps that Google has uploaded to the Play Store, to get as close to stock Android as possible, or I might wait for LineageOS or another custom rom with the stock Android UI to be released for the G6.
(I do like using Nova Launcher Prime because one of the things it allows me to do is to hide a number of the Samsung apps and bloatware on my Galaxy Tab A, plus I can hide the app drawer behind a double tap gesture)

Need few quick tips and suggestions for my new P8

Hello all
I just recently bought used but in perfect condition Huawei P8 and it drives me nuts! list of problems, that I would like help with:
1. If I wish to use stock, am I forced to use EMUI ? Please tell me that there are 2 default options ?
2. Huawei Home is shi* and it doesnt offer you the one thing ALL other manufacturers have: Vanilla-like android launcher called "simple" or "standard" or whatever
3. Why on earth are Home screen and app drawer merged into one function ?
4. Most ridiculous thing: I cant change region if I want to use English, I only have 10-12 countries .. ? like, wtf ?
Please guide me with few simple steps. What I need for a phone to suit me are these functions:
- good old regular launcher with home screens by my liking, with app drawer button (like Nova, Google default, Trebuchet, etc) >> I know I can change it on my own but I am baffled by the fact that Huawei doesnt provide it .. ?
- possibly settings that resemble default google layout, like Sony and LG do
If what I am asking is impossible by stock, please tell me, also in few sentences, easiest way to root and what ROM would suite me ? I would like to keep Huawei defaults regarding camera as I heard P8 camera is a beast and im guessing AOSP (which would suite me the best) looses that functionality .. so I am in a bit of a pickle
Thanks to all in advance!

Hi Adam!
I'm confused a bit about which ROM should I use. Currently I'm on stock 7.0.1.0G.
If I'm willing to upgrade which one should I use. There are quite a few options such as: 7.2.0.0A, 7.8.7.16G, 7.8.7.24A or even 7.8.8.9A.
I can't find a out whats are the differences. For sure all of them are Nougat based. but then...
Could you please guide me which one to pick?!
Thanks!
I need the original build.prop of the rom Flyme 7.2.0.0A Stable Final. I made many changes without a proper backup. If anyone can send me a copy, thank you.

Choose latest 7.2.0.0 A if your concern is about getting more stability and security patches.
Choose latest beta A if you want slight more battery backup.

I have some issue with 7.2.0.0A. I already installed it. But when I try to login into flyme account I get a message that I'm still loged in with another account and I have to logout with that first. I bought my Phone 2nd hand and the seller told me he removed this phone from his account.
The interesting thing that if I use the 7.0.1.0G than I can login with my own without any problem.
I'm still negotiating with the seller how could és solve this.
Do you have any idea how could I overcome this issue if I can't manage IT with the seller?
Thanks!

Login on flyme account using computer and change the password there. Once password changed you have to login everywhere again since all active sessions gone out.
Is there any way to install a altered ROM on this phone? If I add or delete anything from the official ROM then it states it is corrupt.
Or is it possible to install TWRP on it? I think with that maybe its possible to install some tweaked ROM.
Thanks

apparently there is no custom rom, twrp, xposed. what I recommend is to enable root and delete apps and system folders. I did and I gained more ram and less use of the processor in the background. and longer battery life

Yeah I mean you're worrying over something really trivial. Just enjoy the phone man. It's getting better with each update, why are you concerned over such silly things
Btw you linked the India website, I don't know if it's the same as the EU variant, but just a heads up to download the correct update for your device to avoid problems.
Seems like my battery has improved a lot after the update so thumbs up for that

Also, another thing that's not mentioned in the changelog, there's finally an option to tune the vibration intensity, even though there's only 3 levels.

Yeah I mean you're worrying over something really trivial. Just enjoy the phone man. It's getting better with each update, why are you concerned over such silly things

So if you have no problem you buy equipment where you lack the functions that are indicated in a technical sheet of the device so many places for you! But this is not the case with all World. I may still be right to say that the technical sheet is incomplete because realme has been promoting it for its gamer side, but when your ni looks closer it is missing a lot Like double wifi, the game space application is not the same for everyone and it's still incredible! What is the problem? Yes I am one of those who also bought it for its gamer side, so I also have the right to be unhappy not to find the promise made of all these options missing in my version!

No I totally get you, I hate it when companies don't keep their promises and don't live up to the expectations, and I may be biased since I don't see the neccessity of those functions. But it seems you're stressing yourself too hard over nothing and want this just for the sake of having it and not because it's useful.
4d vibration sounds good on paper but I doubt it's that good. Also you would probably not see a real benefit from dual wifi, unless the network you're connecting to is REALLY slow. I'm not 100% sure, but that's my interpretation.
We should totally push companies to do better and to not screw us, agreed, but it's kinda pointless writing that over and over again here on xda. Did you contact them via mail?
just to be absolutely sure , to update if i am rooted with magisk , i only have to :
go to recovery
flash update.ozip
while still in recovery , i flash vbmeta.img
flash magisk.zip
then reboot into os
that is all ? i dont have to wipe cache or dalvik ?
can anyone confirm if i am missing any steps ?
Thanks
yes by email and on their social network but they must always answer me! maia to answer you even if you see no interest in it that does not mean that it is valid for all the people who have bought the realme x2 pro. but he thinks he has partly found the answer to my question .. by dint of trying several version of the 'Game Space' application, it is written in a notification that to activate these options they must connect to their realme account! which only exists on the Chinese or Indian version! Which is totally inconsistent. And as we can see on Youtube the Chinese or Indian version has 3 times more options than us on the "Games Space" application so yes I expect to have the same Thing, I paid dearly for this phone and I therefore think I am entitled to the same options as the others !!!

I advice to do a wipe cache and dalvik after flash, before reboot
Can we actually force 90Hz in every app on this version?
That's the reason why I went to LineageOS, so I might come back if it's now possible (And no, the Magisk module available on this forum didn't work when I was on C.29)

The magisk module works for me. Worked ever since I was first rooted I think at c25, up until now at c31. Some apps are not complying, but that's just because they are programmed that way.

Well, those apps that aren't "progammed that way" works just fine in 90Hz on LineageOS, pretty sure that's just the module not really working for whatever reason.

That's not true, try 9GAG and tell me it doesn't switch back and forth?
Also Poweramp works at 90Hz everywhere but in library view, that's what I found out. Everything else works fine. Google Photos app was 60Hz, but after flashing the module it's 90Hz.
i flashed the rom through twrp (was using los before) but not able to use payment apps. it shows "system integrity compromised". can somebody tell me what i did wrong?
