Hi,
I recently have fallen victim to this reboot loop issue and yes it is my own fault - all I wanted was to be able to get control of my permissions and installed Pwnmymoto - What I read later on a different thread was that the OTA update would brick my phone.
Now, I could careless since I can get a new phone.
I just have one simple question - Is there anyway to connect to my phone and extract all the data out via adb or any other manner since I know my encryption password?
Here is the breakdown to make things simple.
1. OTA updated keeps phone in infinite reboot loop.
2. Phone is encrypted.
3. I want to be able to retrive my data and just do not know how to connect to my phone because it is encrypted.
I truly would appreciate any help regarding this matter!!

this has been answered in more than one thread,
You don't have a valid recovery on your phone, you need to fastboot flash --> system, boot, recovery. This will get you out of the bootloop and let your phone update normally.

Thanks for the reply man. I will be honest, I did try to search within the forums and there were so many articles I literally was slightly overwhelmed.
Would you be able to point to a specific thread which would provide some steps, I am sure I can follow it. I am a little gunshy since I ended up bricking my phone when I updated. I performed the root process no problem and was happy I could still actually do this stuff. I just dont want to make things worse than they already are.

you should join the G+ community for much better and more pointed help. The forums get cluttered.
1) download correct 4.2.2 (57-1) FXZ file
2) extract boot, system, recovery from the file
3) fastboot flash each of the partitions to your phone
(fastboot flash boot boot.img)
(fastboot flash recovery recovery.img)
(fastboot flash system system.img)
Doing this will put your phone in a state where it is ready to update.

what the above poster said is all accurate. but you can get your phone out of the bootloop by connecting it to fastboot mode and running fastboot erase cache. after you do that the phone will boot normally. Then you can take whatever data you want off it. then do what the above poster said to take the ota.
What happened was the ota downloaded to the phone and is forcing it to try and update the phone every time it boots. You need to erase that download which is located in /cache and then it wont force reboot thhe phone. this has also been answered many places. basically every thread titled brick or bootloop or whatever.

erasing cache will cause the following to happen,
You reboot your device, it downloads the update, you bootloop again, you wipe cache, your reboot your device, you download the update, your bootloop again.
@jayboyyyy why not just have him fix the problem that is causing the update and then he will update correctly to KitKat, isn't that the best possible outcome?

well for starters, it seems he is trying to go from original stock FW to 4.2.2 (he said he is using pwnmymoto so he isn't on 4.2.2 yet).
He also said he wants to keep root so he isn't trying to take 4.4 because he won't have root on that FW.
While flashing that stuff will fix his problem and allow him to take the ota, I always like to make backups of everything before doing that. he won't be able to make a tibu backup of his current set-up by doing what you said because it will remove root once he flashes that stuff. So when he then gets root on 4.2.2 he will not have a back up to work with. (I believe you were thinking he was trying to take 4.4, which he may be, but i didn't read it that way).
If he is trying to take 4.4 he should know that he won't have root and he might never have root on 4.4. So if it is essential to him, he should only be taking the 4.2.2 update.
And once he erases cache. he can freeze otas from popping up on his phone. Also, he won't keep getting stuck in a BL because it prompts you and asks if you want to download the latest ota. it doesn't auto download it, so if he doesn't click yes then it won't download or cause a Bbootloop.
Finally, if he doesn't want to try and root with rockmymoto to save time, he can just install pwnmymoto without running it, then take the ota, then it will automatically root the phone for him. This is why i said what i did.

I see that I may not have been as clear as I could have and for that I apologize.
My only goal at this time is to recover my data, since I have activated my old phone ( couldnt wait since it happened on sunday and this is my only phone).
Would the flashboot erase cache method fulfill my only goal which is to recover the data?
If so, are there any different steps that need to be taken to accomplish this?

if you know how to use fastboot then no other steps are necessary. If you had root explorer on your phone, then you could just go to the cache directory and erase it before the phone bootloops again. most people have like 30 to 40 secs before it loops. Just another option. But all you need to do is remove the file from cache.

Just a quick question - Will it matter if my device is encrypted? I only ask because it seems most tutorials never cover encrypted phones.
At least the 10 or so I have read, even youtube videos .

doubt it matters. I think encryption just encrypts user data and other stuff, not all of the phones files. but i could be wrong. I jsut think thats probably the case. i think encryption can cause problems when people are trying to write to certain directories that might be encrypted. I don't think you should run into an issue with the cache though. Not like it wills crew anything up trying.

My Moto X is encrypted and can confirm that it will be fine after you fastboot flash boot, system, recovery. My phone was doing something similar when I tried to install OTA without returning the recovery partition to stock. One thing that I learned was that if you are trying to run fastboot command from an Ubuntu machine make sure you run it via sudo, otherwise your regular user will most likely not have permission and the fastboot command will fail.

To all,
The forums and people in our arena never fail, fastboot erase cache worked perfect. I have recovered all my data and now I will definitely continue to performing a full recovery with stock image.

First off. I'm pretty much a layman at this. Anyone that can solve my issues, I'll gladly pay via PayPal or whatever...
Two months ago, I bought a used LG G2 . It was rooted and running Lollipop.
Sadly, I was a PokemonGo junkie, so when the M'F'ng Niantic a**holes put a block on rooted phones, I attempted the Magisk workaround and ended up bricking my device.
Fortunately I found a solution via You Tube and was able to restore to the factory KitKat / AT&T.
THE CURRENT problem is that yesterday I re-rooted the device, installed TWRP, but did something wrong to where it will not fully reboot and I'm stuck in TWRP. I've watched and read about 20 "fix it" instructionals, which rely on using a PC. I'm using a laptop running XP and every time I have downloaded, installed, and tried to update the damn LG USB driver, it won't f*ing update. I'm going mad and ready to jump off a bridge.
Supposedly, this is the place to go. for answers, so ...CAN ANYONE HELP?!! Again, I'm a layman. I need VERY simple, step by step solutions, that account for ANYTHING that might go wrong, since so far, it always does.

Agreed. Also, if there's no communication between PC and device, you may need an OTG to flash from.

It's TWRP 2.7.0. I kind of know in theory what needs to be done, but I don't know how to do it. I thought I backed everything up using Titanium and TWRP, but maybe the KK ROM is gone? I dunno... I was actually hoping to install Lollipop
What model do you have?
If it is d802, then there is an easy-to-flash rom here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g2/development-d802/rom-pure-stock-lg-google-apps-t3477635/page1
To transfer it to the phone, you can use OTG as Dork said: put the rom on a usb-stick and connect it to the phone with an OTG cable. Most versions of twrp support OTG.
Another way is to get linux for your PC. You're really better off with linux than XP, but you can also just boot with a live-cd. In linux, USB generally just works, though sometimes you have to be root because ordinary users may not have permission.
Thanks for the replies, but being very new at all this, I don't know how to do any of the things suggested. I ended up finding a you tube video which walked me through downloading lg flash tool and some .dll file, and on my work computer with windows 7, I was able to install the usb drivers & change the port number which allowed LG flash to work. The crappy XP didn't have that option on the device manager menu and wouldn't install the drivers.
Anyway, I got it restored to ATT stock KitKat. I wanted Lollipop and Magisk, so I tried installing TWRP with AutoRec, then got stuck in TWRP and bricked again. So I did the whole lg flash to KitKat process again. Now Im sick of messing with it and bricking my phone. I cant find any super simple step by step tutorial that makes sense to a layman like me, or that doesn't leave out steps, or provide expired links, or account for anything that could go wrong. I had hoped this was the place to come, but no luck so far. I know its time consuming for someone to make up a truly easy to follow guide for an older device, using layman terms that my grandma could follow, and I work 2 jobs and dont have hours to try to thoroughly learn OS programming, so I guess Ill just leave well enough alone and live with KitKat and without the ability to mask my root.

I have tried reading a lot of different threads. As I said before, I don't understand the "tech talk" for lack of a better word. When I'm reading "bootload" this, and " sideboot" that, and kernels, and loki, and CM, and mods, and .kdz and ATD,....I don't know what all that means, & there's no OS dictionary to translate. I can't seem to find any threads that explain it for newcomers trying to learn.
Im an accountant. I can prepare corporate tax returns with my eyes closed, but cell phone programming is Greek to me.
So the whole reason I rooted this damn phone was to be able to install working stock apps. Not just the Music and Gallery apps either--ALL THE LG APPS. Which LS997-compatible 100%-working ROM can I flash and get them all, if any? I keep hearing one exists, but no one bothers sharing that info and when I search I find nothing.

Im the only person developing a STOCK LS997 rom currently.. It contains the LG base apps and all the removed ones that we didnt get shipped with out model . Includes a ton of extras as well, alternatively we have 3 or 4 aosp roms you can use, but make sure you use twrp and backup your efs before flashing as it tends to jumble your programming up and cause issues. Otherwise you can flash the stock rom the Dev who provided the dirty santa unlock method.
Theres a good bit of info here to locate everything you need to have a awesome experience with the LG V20!

Hey thanks--I was fairly sure this was the ROM in question. Thank you for providing this! I was hesitant to flash because I'm always a little skeptical about the amount of help I'll get should I get stuck. I'm not exactly a noob at this, but I have plenty to learn. It looks like you've done a lot of work to provide a positive experience, so I'll give it a shot and see how it goes. I promise to read and re-read the instructions on the first 3 posts, and to NOT bother you with questions that have already been addressed in the thread. . Thanks!!

if you made it through dirty santa the rest should be cake. 99% of the issues i covered for people were
after going to AOSP and not having a backup of their programing info in their efs and having to find a way to
manually go in and fix each fd up piece.
The other is being on older software and downloading a OTA and rebooting with it in your internal storage.
This one causes a endless boot loop into twrp, so be advised to delete the update if your on older software or be prepared to
hit my post # 3 for fixes and be near a pc as you need to fastboot erase the fota and misc directories to resolve the boot loop. A twrp wipe will not fix it and restores etc wont either lol.
Otherwise theres now a lil over 100 pages of chatting and troubleshooting, fixes and things that have gone on, and mostly its all outdated as ive provided the fixes for 99% of everything in the latest version 7.5
Just be prepared to take 15-20 minutes for the phone to boot up the 1st time. My rom is deodexed, and the 1st boot is doing 298 things before you get to the optimization part. There is not boot animations as the phone will always have the static screen issue on reboots so i went ahead a placed a disabled command there to just save time/batt life. The setup wizard is stripped and only there to give you the notice its done booting and time to get to playing around.
Magisk is kinda finicy being its systemless design. It takes some time to get used to it, and be aware that some older apps that dont support exotic root or systemless root may not request root and not fully work. Titanium backup is one i know is getting attacked by googles app scanning and needs to have that turned off before it will work, most of my apps have a option to set "force root" so it asks for a root request regardless if it understands MagiskSu's root methods.

I am on the ZV3 version of the software. I do have the ZV5 update in my cache folder--are you saying it's a good idea to delete the update.zip file?

Magisk is a new animal for me, as I've had zero experience with it. I do have Titanium Backup installed, so I'll make a mental note on that.

Hi,
I have an LG V20 H910-10c (Nougat 7.0) and I am having an issue that I am praying someone can help me out with. I have already tried a Factory Wipe/Reset and Wipe Dalvik/ART & Cache and have Formatted Data to remove Encryption, etc..
Timeline: The phone worked fine in all aspects before Rooting it.
After Rooting it, I had this issue.
I then tried a Factory Reset and got stuck in a TWRP Bootloop.
I fixed the Bootloop issue with a Reset (Yes then Yes).
The issue is still there.
ISSUE: When I boot into Android, I get the following message;
"LGSmartcardService has stopped"
.....and I cannot use my External SD Card (TWRP sees it fine, I Flashed SuperSU from it).
I have Googled my brains out and simply cannot find any suggestions, except to perform a Factory Reset, which I did and that's what put me into the Bootloop and I reset the way you said and now it boots up okay, except that error message is still there.
I have not put any apps on the phone or anything. It's factory fresh (except for Rooting it).
I hope I'm not violating any rules by posting this, but the page I used to Root it has a REAL SMALL downloadable file called "V20-Root.zip" that contains everything, including the Batch files with the steps that they perform in them. I did NOT use the ROM, as that's ONLY for Sprint users and my phone is an AT&T model (Unlocked and my Carrier is MetroPCS). But I put it here, just in case someone wishes to bless me by taking a look and seeing if there's something to note. I am not a coder by any means. I do understand some basics, but I couldn't see anything that would cause this sort of problem. I did NOT install the ROM listed, because it's for Sprint users ONLY and I have an AT&T (Unlocked, using MetroPCS) H910. Here's the link to the page:

I really need my Ext SD Card to be seen! I use it extensively and it would be a real hindrance not to have it! Plus this is my ONLY phone (no landline) and I am disabled and must run everything, including my home network and laptop, etc. from it and I need its space for things I have to have available on my phone to do things that I need to do, so any help would be appreciated GREATLY!

Hello everyone, that's it. I have a Redmi 2 enhanced version (2014811) . It can be turned on now but it keeps restarting as soon as it enters the first page. Now it can enter the fastboot mode. How can I save it? (The phone should not be rooted before)
Postscript: If possible, can I take this opportunity to use a third party ROM to upgrade to a higher version of Android? (e.g. Android 10 or higher）

First of all, thank you very much for your advices, bro! Do I need to unlock/root first before installing TWRP? Because I have not been rooted it before, can I just flash in TWRP directly under the fastboot environment without rooting? Sorry, I still don't know how to do it, maybe some concepts have not been figured out yet. .....
If the phone is stock and not rooted a factory reset should restore it.
You will lose all data.
It may be possible to start it and get it to run stabily in Safe mode, if so it's a 3rd party startup app causing it. Find it...

I'm afraid that during the entire flashing process, some things have been done wrong and cannot be remedied in the future. Are there any basic tutorials on flashing that I can learn?
Sorry, sent the wrong post. Try factory resetting in miui recovery mode. If it still not boots, your phone is permanently fried on the motherboard level.

I apologize that no, you will need to get into system and sign into your mi account in order to unlock the bootloader and allow you to flash anything, which you cannot do as for now.

Whatever button sequence is used for that device.
Timing is everything, keep trying until you get it.
It's harder to do when you really need to
Take a break and make sure you got the right sequence/timing.
If it's booting up to the Home page it's salvageable I think... better than a boot loop.
However, before the loop occurs, Mokee 7.1.2 was installed and used it normally for a period of time, does that matter?

Stock Androids are easy, that's one reason I run stock. The only thing that really kills them is an outright hardware failure.

redmi 2 runs on stock rom android 4.2 right? you can not install any single app on that.
when the op fixed it it is advised to install a custom rom.
