Hi. I have a bought a used lg v20 h990DS and I want to install custom rom like linage OS on it. For that I need to install TWRP recovery. I have searched online and found only dirty santa method which is quite complicated and it requires an old mougat firmware to begin with as far as I can understand. Is there a latest method to install TWRP. If not whats the best method? If someone can explain it in simple words, it would be quite helpful.
Note: I have experience in installing twrp on samsung note 5 and note 8 but lg v20 seems quite complicated

Their is no easy way. Follow the guide and you'll get there.
You should read the Lineage thread though
You loose the second screen the quad dac and the cameras are crap. Rooted stock/debloated is the best for a V20.

I have gone through various xda threads and found that it is not possible install twrp on oreo stock rom on lg v20. You havve to start with the dirty santa method and you can update it the latest version of nougat with it using kdz. The only way to install orea is to instal an oreo zip file through TWRP with nougat bootloader. Is that true for lg v20 h990DS?
That's true, here's one such stock Oreo zip

noob to LG Here. Question Does the V# matter when trying to root this device. I am currently on LS997ZV8. I am familiar with root, just not on LG DEVICES. I MISS IT
Yes it does matter. In recent firmware versions, LG has patched the exploit that was being used by Dirty Santa. There is currently no root method available for ZV8.
Hello all!
It's been a while since I've been back, and i've definitely been out of the loop for this phone..
The last thing I did with it was right after I bought it, I unlocked it, rooted it, put TWRP custom recovery on it using the "dirtycow recowvery" patch and method.
Very very long time ago...
I'm still running Nougat 7.0.1 I believe? Basically whatever the phone shipped with.
I have the T-Mobile Variant:
LGH91860fbde7d
My main question is, any phone is unusable for me if I can't get Root, and a custom recovery on it.
What is the latest version/guide on the LG V20 of the latest version of Android that it supports to download and install where I can still Root, and put TWRP on it?
I did search the forum, but there's a lot of guides, and I don't want to "assume" that it's for the latest version of Android (Oreo?) for the V20, so I wanted to make sure
Thanks!!
I have a question I was thinking of using the h915 kdz on my AT&T LG v20 variant. I saw the post about using patched lgup with common dll. I tried this method without success. Lgup kept saying that I it cannot flash h915 to h910. I cannot seem to get around this. My query is can I use another carrier kdz on my phone and which one should I use? And an someone assist with the process? By the way I am using LG V20 H810 currently on nougat. Stock firmware don't want to lose root, just want Android Oreo. Thanks in advance. Also is there an easier way to gain root besides dirty Santa. Seems so lo d and risky.

Use pathed LGUP file in thread:
[GUIDE][UNBRICK] Patch LGUP to unlock features & unbrick V20 (Variant mismatch fix)
and you will can to flash h915 kdz, or us996 kdz. Don't flash other kdz, you will loose your phone.
only one method to access root -- dirty santa.
You can just run follow the instructions in the root thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/root-h910-v10m-t3664500 on any version H910. Backup anything you need, including from the internal storage and SD card, before you start.
Follow the instructions exactly as written, until they tell you to flash the h910-10r ZIP. Go here, https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/h910-att-lg-v20-stock-oreo-rooted-t3846384 get the proper version of TWRP, download the v20h ZIP, download the proper mk2000 kernel, and the Magisk 17.1 ZIP,then flash the rooted v20h ZIP.

Thank you for your support
Please i want to clarify something .
I am reading many posts in xda and reddit that some users successfully converted from H910 to H915 or unlocked VS995 or VS996 i am not sure which 1 is fully compatible with H910.
I just want to know can i flash stock kdz H915 or whatever to my H910 directly from LGUP or i have to root and flash via twrp?
Also I've been reading that flashing via official LGUP won't work because model difference so i have to use LGUP PATCHED VERSION.
TIA

The H910 - H915 and US996 are essentially all the same device
The H910 cannot be unlocked with the stock bootloader
The H915 will allow you to flash a Engineering bootloader that is unlocked
The US996 can be unlocked through LG
I really don't recommend cross flashing except to install the unlocked bootloader
this is done with Patched LGUP
all the instructions are in the root thread I posted above
I have a LG V20 910 (att version) that has never been flashed and last security patch was March 2017. Roll back is allowed. I am trying to install TWRP. I am currently looking over the guides mentioned in this forum. Is there anything new I should be aware of?
I tried following this guide but several of the files needed to be downloaded are no longer available.
[ROOT] HOWTO: AT&T H910 up to v20g (FULLY TESTED)
***WARNING*** This is ONLY for the H910. If you flash H915 firmware on an H918 -- you WILL brick it. If you are currently on Oreo, you can root your phone, but you CAN NOT keep Oreo - for now. This will downgrade you back to Nougat, which is...
