Title says it all really - Pixel 4, UK model unlocked.
When on wifi, the system update page shows the loading circle but doesn't pull any updates.
Switch off wifi onto 4G, and straight away "Preparing software update" shows up. Required to stay on 4G to complete download process.
Any reason why?
Have tried checking with/without SIM card installed and makes no difference.
Hi
Could be your router settings blocking some how?

Hi, thanks for the suggestion but I don't think so as I have no filters etc. setup on my router. I could try a different WiFi network at a friend's but I'll have to wait until next month to try that with the July patch.

Help!
Just bought a 2nd hand Nexus S (I9020) UK and can't get it to connect to a mobile providers network. The signal bar shows grey. I can see all the providers if I do a search, Vodafone UK, Tesco, Orange etc. just get the failed to connect message when I try. Also can't dial out as you'd expect.
I've flashed a number of boot, radio and roms and changed the sim card for another and nothing seems to work.
Here's what I have right now:
Rom version 4.0.4
Baseband: I9020XXJK8 (GRH78): from here
Kernel version: 2.0.8
Build Number: IMM76D
Behind the battery it says: GT-i9020 so does that mean I should be using 9020T radios?
The radio files I've been trying have been from here
GSM will need a new APN. Check with your providers website for their apn data.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
quick update:
Just downloaded I9020XXJK1 from here and fastboot flashed boot, system and userdata
Now I have:
2.3.1
I9020XXKB1 - not sure why this isn't I9020XXJK1 as that's what I downloaded?
Build: GRH78
Now when I boot I get a working (strength goes up and down) signal icon in the system tray. I can see network operators such as: O2-UK, T-mobile, 3UK etc., but I still can't connect to one of them.
"Unable to connect to this network at this time. Please try again later"
Feels like I'm going around in circles. Has anyone seen this behaviour before?
EDIT: Just tried *#*#4636#*#* and setting the radio band to euro but didn't help either.

I already had APN's in there but typed in a new one from scratch with all the settings but that's doesn't help me. It's not just the data that's missing, I can't connect to the network to even make calls.
maybe a blacklisted phone...? dont know at all but it could be the reason?

Hadn't thought of that, possibly.
UPDATE:
Just tried the following:
Downloaded 4.0.4 from: https://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html#sojuimm76d
fastboot flashed boot.img, recovery.img, system.img and userdata.img (the crespo files gave a "no boot or recovery" error in bootmenu
VERY ODD!!!
Have just run through the setup wizard and it's connected to the web somehow. WIFI is definitely off. The signal icon is still grey with an x but it's pulling my email and talk status!
I still can't register on any mobile networks so can't make calls though
Interesting, if I check in status for My phone number it's displaying someone elses. Tried ringing it but it's not recognised.
This is driving me mad now.
More updates. Hopefully all this helps someone else out.
After fabulous69's comment above I did a little more digging.
It turns out there a website called: https://www.checkmend.com/uk where you can pay £1.99 and find out if the phone has been blocked, reported stolen etc. Unfortunately it looks like it might have been :
Ever blocked CheckMEND has a record of this item having been blocked by a cell phone network
Currently blocked CheckMEND has a record that this item is currently blocked by one or more cell phone networks
This would seem consistent with both sim cards not working, I think.
Anyone else used this site before?
You might wanna consider testing the next phone before you buy it
Hi all,
I received today my german AFTV but before I connect it to the network I blocked the two software update domains. Now I have the issue that I can not skip the software update at the beginn. Everytime it ask for a update but based on the block it can not find any update.
The question is how can I skip the first software update screen?

Does it prompt you for the language selection? It should. If so it doesn't matter if you take the update because it ships with 51.1.3.0 to begin with.
The language selection was also showing up but anyway based on your post I removed the block and update the FireTV (51.1.3.0_513011820) and the Controller (v66). Now I blocked it again and hope we will get soon root :good:
I didn't bother blocking anything...I simply connected it to my phone and put it in 3g only mode to give it so slow of a connection that it would take an hour to download the file...plenty of time for me to root it and stop it

How does this allow you to root it? Don't you have to wait for the update to download, then reboot before you can get any further?
Hey fellas,
I just recently updated to the latest software version via OTA (running stock), and suddenly I cannot connect to the mobile Internet anymore even though it shows everything correct.. APN, cellular company and signal at the top of the screen..
Any idea?
Thanks
I've been having the same problem having updated to Pure Nexus last night and again this morning with very little help. When I went into the APN section the actual APN was not selected and that at least got me data but I cannot make phone calls out. They keep getting some sort of sim error.

Not sure if it will help, but have you tried flashing back to an older radio?

That's impossible to check since I'm in a vacation :S
I had this same problem. Go to your dialer and enter
*#*#4636#*#*. This will get you in the test menu. Select phone info and click the 3 dot menu on the top right. Choose select radio band and then click USA band if that's your location. Reboot your phone. Now turn airplane mode on and go to settings and click more under wireless and networks. Click cellular networks and system select. Toggle home and automatic back and forth. Now toggle allow data when roaming off and then back on. Turn airplane mode off and you should be back up and running again. These steps worked for me anyway.
Solved my issue. Go to pure nexus setting, all the way at the bottom I have a phone and info. Then go into phone information. Then click menu in top right, select the band that works for you (had to set mine to USA, 6&7 Didnt work
Neither on wifi nor cellular will it check for update. I get the error "sorry, we are having trouble authenticating your device"
Any idea how to fix this ?
wondering the same :/ anyone have anything?
see my post here. besides flashing the t-mobile ummm rom I guess over it, you won't be able to update. I've tried samsung and t-mobile and the only thing that will work besides that is to borrow a sim from a friend and use that... https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/best-buy-screw-t3594359/page2
try it today. it should work. the servers were having issues last night and this morning.

will not work because system updates are coming from carrier and having a tmobile sim in a verizon phone means verizon will not allow you to connect to their update server...

Thats not the case. I am using vzw GS8 on att and I receive updates fine
Well I'm confused then. I was able to do the last update with a t-mobile Sim in the phone? Right now when I try checking for updates it errors out saying it couldn't be authenticated. Anyone have any clue?
Hope I can help you!
How to update your system if you're not using the carrier from your S8(+) version.

you wont be able to updated through wifi or LTE unless you use a verizon SIM but you can do it easily using your computer and samsung smart switch.

Try to get at least an inactivated Verizon sim card from any Verizon store or you can also try a normal working Verizon sim. I had AT&T Galaxy S5 and it needed the carrier's sim card to even check for update. I took the sim, put it in, checked for update and was able to install it.
Fix to your issue
Hey guys so I do also share the same situation, I have a Verizon s8+ yet I have T-Mobile One as my coverage
Because it's not authenticated as a Verizon provided account it simply won't update
Now.. the solution to updating isn't directly on your device.
It's within the Samsung Smart switch App for either Mac or windows, you can run an update through there with little to no problems at all and finally keep your device up to date without having to return it for an unlocked one.
Just a brief note regarding the smart switch App, keep in mind that sometimes the update will freeze at a certain percentage on the computer so just be sure to close the app out only if your Samsung device hasn't received the green upload screen yet.
Hopefully this helps out alot of you guys ?
Best regards

I'd like to flash mine to t mobile, I'm begging you to help me with this!!!
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
I've seen a bunch of info on the forums on how to flash the T-Mo ROM on an s8 - as well as flashing the Samsung Unlocked ROM on the s8 but frankly, almost all the threads are from back at the phone launch - and it is unclear to me which roms & programs to search for.
In a similar vein - I'm a noob to the whole process using oden - which I think is what i would need to use. I have experience from years ago running cyanogen mods on a nook tablet and messing with windows phones - but nothing recent and things have changed a lot.
I've read conflicting reports throughout the forums on doing this...
I'm running a VZW Branded (but it's now "unlocked")
Model: s8 SM-G-950U
Build #: NRD90M.G950USQS2BQL1
Baseband #: G950USQS2BQL1
What I'm looking for (really the right word is "NEED"):
Access to lower 700 A block (full band 12 use)
Ability to get OTA Updates
Mobile Hotspot Functionality
WiFi Calling
VoLTE
Bixby
If I could have these all running the Samsung Unlocked ROM - then that would be preferred...
If not - I would want to flash the T-Mobile ROM.
I need to know ASAP as I only have 14days from today (2/14/18) to figure this out or go back to VZW
Many thanks!
~chris
Hello so as stated above for some reason i have an x below my signal bar but it still says lte but not connection, ive tried the following, remove sim and put it back in (both with the phone off and on), checked my apns which i never had to mess with before (which i didnt have this issue yesterday just saw it when i got to work which i usually have lte signal), turn on and off airplane mode, turn off and on mobile data, ive tried every fix i could think of so far with none of them working.. my cell service is been paid and i checked my straight talk account to make sure, but now comes the weird part when im connected to wifi and pull down the quick toggles it shows no x under the lte (see screenshot below) does anyone know how to fix this issue i rely on my lte data for directions and gps at work.
Phone info:
Android 8.1 beta opp5 rooted
Thanks to anyone that can help!
I am having this same issue as of this morning, and I am on the Straighttalk AT&T network. I wonder if they just updated their APN network and our APN settings need to be updated too? If so, I'm not sure what settings to use.. using the straight talk website and selecting "Android 4.0" (the newest version listed), it shows the settings I'm currently using. Anyone else having/resolved this issue?

Borrow a (different carrier) SIM from a friend to see if it is a network issue. If the LTE works on that SIM, go to ST and have them provision another SIM for you (free). If the LTE still doesn't work, back your phone up, wipe it, flash a full image.

I called STW tech support, and they told me I had the wrong APN... I updated my APN settings (but really it was nothing other than changing the ID, so I don't think it had any real effect) and still had no data. After checking downdetector.com, it appears there is a widescale data outage with straight talk (or more specifically, AT&T). One of the commenters stated the following:
"I can confirm the issue is DNS. If you have the ability to changes the DNS on your phone, you can restore service. If you have Android + Root, I used DNS Override successfully. Just set DNS Servers to Google's"
I just used DNS Override ($2 app) to set my DNS servers to Google's and that resolved my issue. Hope that helps. If you don't want to spend $2, there are some free apps that also will change the DNS servers for you, and there are other methods detailed here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...ide-how-to-change-dns-android-device-t3273769
Update: earlier that day ot seemed to resolve itself while i was driving at work amd got to my destination which was about an hour away and once i looked at my phone ot no longer had the x and had full service amd working lte so idk maybe it was cell tower maintenence but don't know for sure but the issue hasn't happened again tho but thanks for everyone for the help and suggestion!
