Sprint/Tmobile S20 stuck on VoLTE? - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Guides, News

I've been getting complaints about my cell phone connection for about a week now, and I've realized that I'm on voLTE. I quickly found the setting but it's grayed out! I can't toggle it off at all. I've tried limiting my networks around, I suppose the fastest fix would be to dock it down all the way to 3g (and while I'm home that doesn't seem like a bad option) but I'm wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience.
I'll likely launch another sprint ticket but I've already yelled at them once today about my bill (regarding the purchase of the s20)

My whole family is having this issue, they live in a place with 1 or 2 bars of nothing and it won't switch to wifi calling unless they put their phones in airplane mode or switch to 2G(GSM). But in certain places it will switch to wifi calling, it says in the Wifi Calling FAQ that as of April it would be prioritizing VOLTE over WiFi Calling.

Go into settings, General Management , Reset and Reset Network settings. You will have to log back on to your wifi and turn on Wifi Calling afterwards. It should then work. I have to do this occasionally.

That didn't work either, that's what Sprint recommended.... But I found a fix! This app shows a hidden menu!

On my Sprint S20, I was able to use Samsung Band Selector app to disable VOLTE, but it knocked out 5G. I have not been able to have VOLTE but still get 5G working with Sprint. Anyone else?

How to force LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) or any other Preferred Network Type.

Hello, I have no problem receiving an LTE signal on BCE (Canada) through the Phone Info Menu. I can select any of the preferred network types including LTE, LTE/GSM, CDMA, LTE/GSM/CDMA but it won't stay. Every day I have to go back into the menu and it reverts back to the first selection "WCDMA".
Does anyone know how to force this so it stays on LTE/GSM/CDMA. So it will stay on the LTE-enabled network unless there is a loss of signal and it reverts back to HSPA? It does this automatically when "LTE/GSM/CDMA is selected, but again reverts to CDMA within a day usually.
I did some searches here, but 99% of what comes up is just people asking how to enable LTE or if their network gets it?
Any ideas? Maybe some sort of macro thing.
Regards.
Add this line in build prob
telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1
Save
Reboot
Now in settings/more/mobile networks u will have an option to choose and it will stick. U have to add the line every time u flash ROMs.
But I keep iron WC DMA/gsm for better battery speed is OK on h+
Thanks for the helpful reply man. I haven't edited a build.prop yet, so Ill have to check it out.
Alright thats all done now, works like a charm. Like that I have the option now either way. I typically stick to WCDMA/GSM when on the road or at work where LTE is spotty, but on days off for around town I would rather just be on LTE as I usually just looking up something quick when Im shopping or something.
Thanks again.

Nice
I keep it at LTE, it does have less bars but quality is same for me, speeds are amazing. Also 4G is only data, not voice, so when u have an active call it will change to 3G.(but that's not the phone it's the network)
don't forget to do it again if you flash new ROM, also Tethering WiFi won;t work, there is a fix but it's complected for me, so I just go to W/G if I need to share connection.
So, my Nexus 4 shipped today, and it'll be in my grubby little hands by tomorrow evening. I, unfortunately, can't activate it until March, as I have to wait for my Verizon contract to end, but I keep seeing this LTE stuff, with no real explanation. I do know that the Nexus 4 has an inactive LTE radio in it, but what's the use of activating it, if T-Mobile doesn't have LTE? Is this only for the AT&T users?

There are other threads dealing with who can access LTE in the USA. I am in Canada and on Bell.
I'm in Canada, using Fido. I activate the LTE on my Nexus 4. It works fine, but I'm not able to share internet with wifi hotspot.
I have Android 4.2.1 (latest OTA from Google).
There is a bug with this version or it's only because I activate LTE manually ?

what is the fix to get hotspot internet sharing with the Nexus 4 ? Do i have to had a APn for 3G and swith that it to share my connection ?
I'm with the original firmware. Android 4.2.1
process com.android,phone hase stopped working
i recently got a rom from revolt on my n4 and i switched cdma to lte gsm wcdma auto
i also went into build.prop and wrote down telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1. i went and to setting, more, mobile networks chose the correct setting. so now i got 4G. great i can make calls. GREAT. but i cannot receive calls...
need help with this. im really choked about this ROM
Even if I select "LTE/CDMA" in the Mobile network settings menu. The settings page keeps displaying "CDMA preferred".
Does this mean it didn't work? In quick settings, I see my mobile data connection as 3G Bell.
LTE only seems to work when using the *#*#4636*#*# trick in the Phone app.

Thanks, but LTE doesn't work in my country, its always stick on lte/gsm/wcdma but it doesnt detect my gsm so i have to manually set it on GSM only but wont stick here every time i restart my phone i have manually set it on GSM only otherwise it wont detect my network
Any advice ?
How can I make "WCDMA Only" the default selection?
Where I Iive there is no LTE and the coverage of the service is quite poor, so the phone keeps jumping between E and 3G/H. I have to manually go into the phone app and select "WCDMA Only" is there a build prop tweak to make the "WCDMA Only" the default option instead of "WCDMA Preferred"?
Thank you.
So is there a way to get the nexus 4 to work on Verizon ??

Aah Crap ! Well thanks man saved me from buying on guess i will have to stick with my rezound for now then
fixed it
For everyone still searching for a solution to this problem, this worked for me. Go to phone information and turn your radio off. Then switch to LTE/GSM/CDMA then power down, DO NOT TURN YOUR RADIO BACK ON. Now remove your Sim card, put it back in, reboot and you should be good to go. DO NOT HGO BACK INTO PHONE INFORMATION OR ELSE IT WILL NOT STAY
If it still isn't connecting try fiddling around with your APN settings.

Wi-Fi calling

I spent a hour with support on enabling Wi-Fi calling. I set it all up but all I get is a star next to my Wi-Fi signal and no ATT-wifi calling icon in the left top notification area. Any ideas?
At&t is going to call me back Wednesday as I said i would troubleshoot it further. I have reset network settings, resetup Wi-Fi calling and reset my phone

At&t support WiFi calling only if your signal is lower then two bars. If you have plus ( star) sign next to your WiFi that mean your WiFi calling is working. To check this turn airplane mode and connect to WiFi and try to make call. There is no WiFi icon on left side at all.

I will give it a try. I Usually only have one bar. I took my note 5 back because it wouldn't work with my microcell I fought with them for 5 months about it I finally took it back .

I didn't personally have any issues... although it would not activate for the first few hours I had my phone. But I had never used wifi calling before, and why i didn't think of your method of testing it, I don't know. But thanks for the advice.
If I keep the WiFi calling enabled, will it reduce my battery life? By keeping a constant connection or something? I guess I have more than 2 bars for most part of my home.

I can't imagine that it would. Unless you normally turn WiFi off when your not using it. WiFi calling will automatically toggle wifi on and search for a signal. If you just leave wifi on all the time, I can't imagine the wifi calling portion changing you battery life any.

Not just for testing. That method (turn on Airplane Mode, then re-enable WiFi) can be used to force WiFi-calling (instead of using your voice minutes) even if you have a strong connection to your mobile network.
I was having this same issue and by switching to the Sim card that came in the box rather than my old one fixed the problem for me.

Verizon Volte question

I recently placed a call, and I found out that data was disabled during the call. On Verizon's site my account has HD voice enabled. I also checked the hidden menu *#*#4636#*#* and volte is provisioned. However, the cellular menu under settings does not have Enhanced 4G LTE mode. How do I get this menu to appear?

Need a little more info. Are you on nougat? Is so, this is a known issue with the new radio-toggling airplane mode should fix it until next reboot. If it's a rom, I'd ask in that thread. If your completely stock and still on marshmallow, then it's problem a Verizon issue.
Sorry, I'm still on marshmallow, totally stock.

How about a network setting reset?
I reset the network settings, still no menu.

not receiving incoming calls...

just got the phone yesterday and updated it to the P beta. everything works amazingly well for a beta in my opinion, BUT i cant receive calls. outgoing calls, texts, web and apps are just fine.
spent almost 2 hours at tmobile flipping all the settings around and no luck. any ideas would be appreciated.
Same issue here bro...Incoming don't ring but I get voicemail notifications.... Really annoying, even if it is a DP.
Turns out the beta doesn't play well with the essential LTE. Switch to 3g and calls will come through. Hopefully it doesn't take long to find a work around for it
I believe the people having this issue have volte enabled...try and disable volte (it's broken anyway and more than likely why calls won't ring through) and see if that works
Got same issue... My experience was that I could solve the problem with reboot.
Issue came after playing on settings for mobile network.
Is meaning, when you do this you have to reboot afterwards otherwise you can't receive calls
Try it.

Tried rebooting multiple times while changing settings around. The only way I can get the calls to come through is by going without LTE completely.

Settings/network settings/mobile network/advanced/enhanced LTE?
I had the same issue and to fix mine I just enabled Wifi Calling.
When on wifi I didn't get a call, just missed call notification. After enabling wifi calling, it comes through without issue.
I tested calling off wifi and on wifi and all calls come through good now.
This could be similar, so you guys might want to look at that also.
Good luck!
Heard from a few that this was solved by going into phone app settings -> calls -> calling accounts, then turning on "receive incoming calls". Seems it's disabled to save battery? Can't confirm as I just flashed to try it out and then went back to 8.1 because I like themes too much. Lol.
I'm on Sprint and was never able to make or receive calls regardless of Network settings in the easily accessible options menu.
The following fixed my issue. You can access this menu without downloading an app but I forget how so it's easier to just download the free app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xsquarestudio.forcelte
I had my network mode set to LTE/CDMA when first using this app, and somewhere in the middle I changed it to CDMA but I'm not sure how much that impacted the actual fix.
These were my steps. I'm not responsible for any damage this may cause to your device as I'm not sure if messing with these settings is foolproof or not.
First, opened previously linked app "Force LTE" then under "Set Preferred Network Type" I changed to CDMA only. Enabled/disabled airplane mode. This seemed to do nothing as LTE was still showing in statusbar.
I then chose CDMA auto (PRL), airplane mode on/off, didn't seem to do much either. LTE still showed in statusbar and couldn't make calls. Also "Voice Network Type" showed "Emergency Calls only" inside the app.
I then chose the 3 dot menu and chose "select radio band". I changed that to United States, without resolving problem. Then selected "Cellular 800" and this may have solved the problem, but I continued on and selected PCS, fiddled with some settings in Phones settings menu. Was finally able to receive calls and my signal indicator showed 3G. In app Voice Network Type was listed as 1xRtt. I decided to select radio band once more and chose Class 10.
Calls were still functioning fine. So I went into Main settings menu and changed mobile network from CDMA to LTE/CDMA. LTE kicked in and calls still work!
Again, these settings may only work for Sprint hence the PCS Network option, and I believe Sprint may utilize the 800mhz frequency. The app might show you different options depending on your carrier. I don't know.
Anyway, fully functioning! Woohoo!!

I don't have anything in my settings that says "enhanced LTE" .
Tried using the 4g/LTE and the LTE only options. Neither would let calls through.
I have this problem using the Essential PH-1 with Android 9 Pie in South Korea on the KT network. It should be fully compatible, according to radio specifications, however it only works when I change the following setting:
Settings | Network & Internet | Mobile network | Advanced | Preferred network type | 3G
This is not ideal, since it makes the Internet slow, but at least I can make/receive voice calls. I submitted a support ticket to Essential requesting their official help (I'm well within warranty).
I had the same issue when I use my Att prepaid plan. The problem is caused by wrong network type, you can send text and browse internet, because they use the different channel. My PH-1 wrongly recognized the sim as CDMA/LTE mode, just switch it to 4G/LTE, it will be work. Go to Settings, then search "wi-fi calling", point "advanced" then you can see an opinion "Preferred network type" if you are ATT or T-mobile user, and your preferred network type is "LTE/CDMA“ then your phone cannot make call. Switch it to "4G/LTE", you phone will be work. BTW, Verzion uses CDMA, so if you are Verzion user, CDMA/LTE will work for you phone.

No internet/data during phone calls

On Sprint's Network, unlocked bootloader & critical partitions. Anytime I even receive a notification for a phone call coming in, my LTE is dropped instantly. Deny or hang up the call, it comes back. I've read that Sprint's 3G can't handle voice and data at the same time, but this is 4G. Wifi is also completely useless on this phone as it stays connected for about 60 seconds tops.
Tried doing a complete wipe and reset to both Pie stable and Q beta 6, same exact thing. Tried all the network options in settings and nothing.
Does anyone with Sprint have working LTE during a phone call? I'm trying to figure out if it's a **** copy I got from Amazon, or the network. Thanks.

I can't say anything about Sprint, but VoLte on Verizon behaves the same way for me on Q beta 6. If the radio cycles for any reason I lose VoLte even if it shows selected. I have to toggle it in network settings for it to work.
Just curious, if you go into the phone info with *#*#4636#*#*, does it show that VoLte is provisioned?
