This Bootloader Unlock announcement just for USA users has annoyed me to the maximum now.
Why are the USA users getting a premium service compared to EU/UK users when we are paying £360/€450 for the phone?
All problems:
> No Stock ROM/Theme
> USA have up to date ROM (B02 Released for Europe)
> Buggy OS on EU version (B02 Released for Europe)
> Passport 2.0 for US (Confirmed 3 year warranty)
> Screen Protector for US
> Regular Software Updates for US (B02 Released for Europe)
> Great support forums for USA
> BOOTLOADER UNLOCK only for USA
There are a few more to add to the list im sure, but i cannot remember them at time of posting.
Anyone have suggestions to what us EU/UK users can do to get the same level of service/support as the USA
I am hearing minimal from ZTE about anything and have to result to the USA forums but they are not much help there.

Don't expect anything at the moment from ZTE in Europe.
Don't get me wrong, i like the device (preordered, will see how it goes) and i'm happy to see ZTE working with the customers in North America (to a certain extent) but ZTE just isn't implemented in Europe. They sell a dozen of differents devices and that's it.
To change things, i would say contact ZTE via official forms but they aren't responding...

Dont get me wrong either, i love the device but the support is just terrible.
The bootloader unlock isnt a big deal to me now, im sure someone later on will release an easy way to unlock and install custom roms.
The main issue is that ZTE are giving USA users such a premium service and a better OS which is way less buggy.
They promise Nougat when it comes out but will us in EU ever see that, we havent even got one OS update yet.
Don't buy it - this is the only way to say "change something".
I really like the Axon 7, it's almost perfect, just few more mAh but I will not pay more than the US (450€ = +500$ / OnePlus is 399€ and US 399$) and get less (no case, no screen protector, no updates, no support, no passport...)
Maybe I will order one by Amazon, open it and send it back. Really start hate ZTE.

To be fair, you don't pay more for the Axon 7 than the US (well, 13$ more but that's negligeable). You have take taxes into account, inluded in Europe, excluded in the US.
Not buying isn't gonna change things since they obviously don't really care for the European market at the moment. But i have to admit it's just too much hastle to go and rant about Europe to ZTE on every communication channel they have...

Not buying is the only way. It's all about the €$¥! Check the last thing with bootloader. Canncel pre-orders and few days later "ok, bootloader unlock next week". Samsung remove sd card slot and after so much hate it's back. They only care about money, like any other company.
U pay 399$, what is about 350€. Look how simple this is: 3,5€ are 1%, 10% are 35€, 20% are 70€... so you need to pay about 30% taxes to get the EU price. We even don't got a forum. The ZTE Axon 7 is not on the homepage of ZTE

ZTE Europe reps are just idiots... Just look at the release date announced at ZTE UK twitter (announced end 2016 while it was 27 july). I wouldn't take their word for it.
I agree, it sure is all about the money. But since they didn't invest any king of "big" money for the european market, they won't ccare about relatively bad sales, that's the irony of it...
On the other end, for the prices, you are not entirely wrong but it's more like 25.7% taxes to get to the same price point. Since average VAT is 21.5%, we aren't too far from those 25.7% (give or take 15€ more for the European price).
I really don't care about the price, when the service is good but this is just unfair. They pi** on EU and take more for less service. This is what makes pain to order Axon 7.
After flop release maybe no updates and with looked bootloader you just get f...d by ZTE. The last flagship they sell for 211€ after few months.

Everything you say is true. How can they release the phone for US and UK markets at the same time, yet give US users a more premium quality operating system than EU!!! like wtf haha Shouldnt it be the same rolled out for all and wouldnt it make it easier for them too
Does the US version not work in the UK ?
US users get shafted plenty. Most of our devices are riddled with carrier bloat that cripples resources. We also almost never get headphones that are included in other models.
Often we have to resort to International models which don't always have all the required bands.
Using the Axon 7 reminds me of a Samsung phone from three or four years ago. I don't mean the UI—MiFavor 4.0 doesn't look bad. It's just overloaded with buggy features that probably don't need to exist. It feels cluttered. At the same time, features that I do want like lock screen notifications and Do Not Disturb mode are made less accessible.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/08/10/zte-axon-7-review/
So, this is the reason why we need open bootloader. The Axon 7 is a beast but no updates, bugs and bloatware.

Try sucking eggs, none of these phones, ZTE, Asus, oneplus even get released in Aussie, I have to buy U.S. version through post forwarding service an God knows what will happen if I need warranty claim. Call them global devices but it's a limited world view blinkered by market size, share and $ values... Ahh but I'm still smiling

Subject asks the question.
If someone using it, I'd be interested in your thoughts on it, where you purchased it, is there an evaluation period (returnable after 14 or 30 days).
I'm interested, but concerned about support.

Doubtful. The global lte variant hasn't been released yet. Unless someone was extremely impatient or visiting the u.s., I doubt anyone has it yet. I've got mine preordered from GearBest for the time being. I didn't think I'd ever purchase another Xiaomi device considering the Mi Note Pro got such horrible software support (still on lollipop), however this phone was just too good to pass up lol

I want to order one it will work on Verizon because it has all global bands

Got a global variant; still only 1 rom version (Chinese with English option). Had to install google services from Mi AppStore (like Mi Mix) and, like the mix, I am finding lots of apps that won't work on this rom. I travel a lot and JetBlue and Delta don't work; also, for some reason, this rom won't support Android Pay. Even though I am using official ROM and locked bootloader, I am getting a message when trying to run android pay that it can't due to security issues (either unofficial rom or unlocked bootloader) - Others on Mi Forums have said the same. Nice phone to look at and I got great LTE speeds but, for someone who travels a lot, too many problems to be my daily driver.
I also got a HUAWEI Mate 9 Pro with global LTE bands - zero problems with the phone; everything I use installed just fine and the phone came with google out of the box. Given the two are almost the same phone; my pick would be the Huawei. I also like that the Huawei has native support for OLED "glance" screen (time/notifications when the screen is off) and you don't have to install third party app like on Xiaomi.
Thanks for that input.
I presume the Mate 9 Pro is in fact the 6GB version. I haven't been able to find it available.
I was also considering that but came to the realization that the global version is not compatible for CDMA / Verizon. One would think that if they are in fact expanding to the U.S. They would want that business too.
I have the Global version and am using it on Verizon. It has a vendor rom installed and I'm trying to put the stock rom on there as the apn settings wont stick. Calls and SMS are fine though.

Which ROM do you have? Can you pass SafteNet test in the "SafteyNet Helper" app?
I have 8.0.13 stock ROM and have not unlocked bootloader, but I cannot pass SafetyNet test to add cards in Android Pay (I've selected HCE and Android pay as default payment, as well as granted all permissions to Android Pay & Google Services). SafetyNet is the road block for me to use Android Pay. It seems 8.0.13 went out on 11/29/2016. I am not sure how long (if ever) I will be able to pass SafetyNet test...

Any update here guys? Mine is coming in this week, I had to grab it after the prices went under $500, what can I expect, are the latest official roms any better, I see a global one being discussed on the mi forums, also has anyone heard any news on possible Android 7, seems weird a high end flagship phone to be left behind like this considering my Mi5 is on the official Android 7 over 2 months now?
Yep I've got the Global version and I'm using it on Verizon and have zero issues. Coming from a Nexus 6P, I'm loving it so far, only had it for about a week.
Using it on AT&T, and running into minor issues as I tag along.
1- If you are using the global version on AT&T don't bother giving them the IMEI number of Xiaomi Note 2, instead give them an old phone IMEI that AT&T Recognizes. I wasn't able to register on their network and was only getting HSPA+ instead of 4g LTE.
2- I am running into issues with data not working during phone calls? Anyone else having the same issue?
I've been a diehard Samsung guy all the way back to the S5. I'm on the note 8 now and my wife is on the S9+. I prefer to have my device rooted but Samsung /Verizon has made it increasingly difficult with each new generation of phone.
I've noticed since I am on the Verizon network, there are not many choices to switch to that you are able to unlock the bootloader. Verizon wants to keep them all locked up tight.
In my research I have discovered that the 6T may offer me a way out. I also understand that it's not without it's share of problems. I've noticed many posts with people saying their texts do not work correctly. Many others said they had to call Verizon and tell them the 6t is not a CDMA phone and one member said Verizon would not activate his CDMA-less 6t.
I think I may still be willing to give it a try but one thing I noticed when I do a search for a Oneplus 6t on Amazon, every listing says NOT COMPATIBLE with Verizon. I think they are only saying that because the 6t does not have CDMA capability but it does have LTE and because of that it should be compatible. Am I correct?
I do not want to buy it if I can't use it on Verizon.
I just got my Oneplus 6T last Thursday. It is a tiny bit finicky about getting the drivers to keep working for unlocking, rooting, and flashing, otherwise once I had it set up, to activate it on VZW, I just had to log into my account and make the required CDMA-less choice online and BOOM, it just works.

My Nexus 6 still works, but it's time and I'm happy.

I'm on Verizon contract. I had no issue with getting my 6T on my line switched to cdma-less. Also buy it from OnePlus directly you can buy a warranty replacement plan witch Verizon will not cover cause they don't sell the device. I came from the unlocked Google Pixel 2 XL. I will never buy a phone from Big Red again. Unlocked and free is the way to BE???.

Thank you guys. I agree with you both. I'm so tired of being under their thumb. I like having control of my phone and what's on it.
If I weren't a truck driver I would have already left Verizon long ago and tried to find a cellular service provider that gives me more freedom, but I travel to a LOT of backwoods places where, if I didn't have Verizon, I would have no signal.
Actually, being able to buy unlocked devices that work on Verizon is the ultimate freedom. The best phone on the best network.

The Chinese version will not work.
The international version is the version that work. Buy directly from OnePlus to make sure it't the right version.
I'm using my 6T on Verizon with no issues.
Good point teddyearp, Verizon is the best network and that together with an unlocked phone is the ultimate in freedom.
Thank you tech head, I will be sure to get the international version straight from oneplus.
I did a lot of searching before deciding on the 6t. Am I right that the 6t is the only new phone that you can purchase in the US that is unlocked or can be unlocked and that is compatible with Verizon?

There is also the Google pixel line from Google also. Like I said I came from a pixel 2 XL and I can honestly say since I got my 6t I haven't looked back at my pixel. Way more BANG for my buck. I could have purchased two of the high-end 6Ts (8gb ram and 256gb storage) like I have for the price of one pixel 2 XL. I paid almost $1,200 including warranty with that for a unlocked 128gb Pixel 2 XL. Now for my OnePlus I paid $629 plus a extra $150 for a 2 year warranty. I baby my devices but accidents do happen. Even though I never had one but just in case cause it's better safe then sorry. You won't regret your OnePlus I've been reading about these flagship killers for a few years and been waiting for them to be compatible with Verizon. The long wait is over.
Oh yes that's right. The pixel phones. My son, who is away at college loves his pixel and as hard as it may be to believe, even though I've always used android phones (android being from google), I am extremely anti google and would not buy a pixel. I like apple even less so I use android but I don't use chrome. One of the things I always try to accomplish when I get each new device, is to root it and remove as much bloatware and all the google stuff I can without breaking it. Plus I like to stop as much of the telemetry as I possibly can.
I really appreciate the fact that the oneplus has a much lower price and yet is still powerful. Yes the long wait is over
I can't wait to get my very own flagship killer!
bought my 6t one month ago to replace a pixel 3 xl. i do not regret it one bit. the 6t just feels better in the hand to me. popped the sim out of the pixel and into the 6t and instant working except for MMS and i got on the verizon website and did the chat (couldn't find the link myself for CDMA-less texting) and it worked within minutes. zero issues so far. (sorry for the run-on sentence)
Hi,
Kudos to the generous soul that gets through this long-winded post and then is still willing to share some helpful advice...
BACKGROUND:
- I've had the 6T T-Mobile variant since Nov '18.
- Really like it, but TM's restrictions & delays with OxygenOS & Android security updates are frustrating, so ensuring the next device I get is unlocked is key.
- I'd like to upgrade to the 7-Pro (I'd consider the 7T & 7T Pro future releases as well, but leaning towards the Pro for now).
- I've got $315 remaining in e.i.p ("equipment installment plan") payments on the 6T...once the balance hits $290 (50% of the original price) the "Jump" service will allow upgrading to any TM device and starting a new e.i.p without having to pay that remaining $290.
- I assumed that if I wanted an unlocked version of the next phone, I'd have to eat the remaining $315 of the 6T and trade it in directly to OnePlus for the 7-Pro, or sell it somewhere else and buy the 7-Pro at sites like Amazon, eBay, etc.
- But yesterday a T-Mobile store rep suggested, "you could always Jump your 6T to the 7-Pro and then root it". He mentioned that this would allow (among tons of other customizations) keeping up-to-date with OxygenOS & Android updates.
- When I asked if that would void the warranty and/or prevent potential repair insurance claims, he said that if necessary, the rooting alterations could easily be reversed back to valid warranty standards for a future Jump and/or repair claims.
INQUIRY:
- So, is the above suggested solution accurate?
Will it be possible to change a T-Mobile variant to being effectively unlocked on Day 1, years before it would be paid-off via monthly payments allowing a traditional unlock?
- I have zero experience with or knowledge about rooting and find the whole thing to be intimidating - can someone point me to the right instructions/user assistance sections of XDA to start this process?
- Any further advice is welcomed.
Thanks so much in advance for any help!
Alex
My suggestion would be to stop buying TMobile devices. There is no downside to using a regular OnePlus device on TMobile's network, and then you won't be going through all these hoops to get regular updates. Yes you can sort "convert" to the international version. This does not make it "identical" to the international version. There are still some differences, it just allows you to run the other software. No differences that are likely to a make a difference to most users though.
This is thread is a good start for you: [T-Mobile / Guide] - Full SIM and Bootloader Unlock + Root for locked devices
*edit* I misread some of that, you can do this with your 6T you know? That thread I linked to, applies to your 6T.
As @OhioYJ stated, you can do this with the 6T and the 7 Pro at this time.

My suggestion would be to stop buying TMobile devices. There is no downside to using a regular OnePlus device on TMobile's network, and then you won't be going through all these hoops to get regular updates. I'm sure he buys them from T-Mobile since he has jump and monthly payment plan.

Theres a couple of threads in guides section. You literally flash a file and you're on the Oneplus OS. You even get Oneplus updates as the come out or join their beta. It's easy. You only need to "unlock" it if you're moving carriers.

Hi,
Kudos to the generous soul that gets through this long-winded post and then is still willing to share some helpful advice...
Alex

I would hurry. The 7pro has been removed from the T-Mobile website. I'm assuming that once you're local store runs out of them they won't be getting any more
Ryan is right. Only the 7t next, and 7 pro is while supplies last. Personally I'd buy the 7T over the 7 or 7 pro, but to each their own. I'd also get the phone from OnePlus directly.
I rooted my oneplus 6t without paying for the unlock or whatever. I just followed the forum and get everything perfect. updates come in or i can install with twrp. then unroot and go back to Tmobile rom when return. You could probably leave it international rom since people won't really know, and its better.
Thanks everyone for the feedback!!!

Super helpful, thanks again
- Confirming that TM phased out the 7-Pro from their website, though I was able to have one held at a local store til tomorrow...
- I believe that tomorrow, Oct 10th is the official launch of the 7T, hoping (though apparently it's unlikely) that TM will also carry the 7T-Pro that so I can "jump" to that device instead of the 7-Pro
- http://bit.ly/2ATZLzo - reading up on the rumored 7T-Pro specs, and it seems like the perfect distillation of the entire 7 lineup.
When I got my t mobile 6t I didn't even boot to oos I had it unlocked and rooted and switched to international technically before I owned it because their payment system was dumb I had to wait like an hour or so in the store. Root is a must for me beings how I require ad block and functional GPS for android auto.
Sorry in advance if this question has already been asked, but I couldn't find anything on my own.
A few months ago I bought a refurbished S10+ (SM-P975U) on Newegg, which I later learned was originally from AT&T. I was a little spooked that it didn't have any updates to install when I got it, but I didn't get concerned until recently when I learned that AT&T branded phones only receive updates when they're on the AT&T network. The last update I have is from August 2021. As of writing this, I believe there is a November update.
I have some experience using TWRP to flash custom ROMS, so my first thought was just to flash the stock OS without the AT&T branding. Thing is, I'm hesitant to mess with my S10+ because it's my main phone, let alone the fact that I don't even know if this is possible.
Is there anything else I can do? Connecting to AT&T isn't really an option since I live in Canada, and I'd really rather not trip Knox or risk bricking my main phone.
Updates tend to break AT&T phones especially older ones. My AT&T Note 10+ hasn't been updated in 2 years. It's current OS load is over 1.5 yo, still fast and stable.
With Pie and above security isn't an issue unless you do something stupid.
If your firmware is fulfilling its mission, let it be.
