Rooting Galaxy S8 SM-G950W (Canadian S8 with Telus) - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to root my old S8 that's just been lying around. I haven't rooted a phone since the S4 mini and before that the HTC Evo 3D, so I'm a bit rusty.
I found a thread about the G950W and rooting it, but it now claims to be discontinued. The new thread that was linked only indicates that it's for the G960U.
I also wanted to mention that it has Android 8.0, and I feel like I recall seeing something that said only 7.0 can be rooted? Has this changed? Maybe I didn't look hard enough?
I believe my phone has a Snapdragon processor and I don't recall seeing OEM Unlock under the developer options.
Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

No oem unlock. Still root 7.0 only. Look up extreme syndicate thread and you can root 7.0 from there

So since my S8 has Android 8.0 I'm out of luck then? After looking through the thread I didn't see any mention of G950W or rolling back Android 8.0 to 7.0.

I updated my S8 SM-G950W to android 9 and all the threads I find in forums say android 7 is required/or OEM unlock is required/OR bootloader must be unlocked. I haven't found one starting from android 9 with the Canadian variant with the bootloader locked. Any thoughts on what to do from here?

Rooting Galaxy S5 LTE-A G906K

Hi guys. Been a long time since I've rooted a phone. To be honest, I think the One-X was the last phone I rooted. Anyways, I'm having some trouble, well confused.
I'd like to root my phone, just root. No other ROMs or anything but cannot seem to find a thread to satisfies my phone.
I have a S5 LTE-A, G906K currently on Android 5.0.1 and running lrx22x.g906kktu1bog2 .
But I cannot seem to find anything that matches the lrx22x.g906kktu1bog2 or is this not required and I can just flash using ODIN?
If possible, could you post links thanks.

G900F or G901F

Hi there,
I have a Moto X 2013 and feels like time to change it. I went through all possible variations to have a newer and rootable phone with decent developer support.
I wanted to have a G870F S5 Active, but they are hugely overpriced if available, so came to the decision that the S5 will do.
So, the question is: G900F or 901F. I know the differences, and really would love the S5 Plus... but the S5 is much more "developer supported".
Anyone tested both? Does it worth to go for the S5 Plus even if there is only minor development going on for that?
Thanks for any experiences!
well, as long as you can root it and put TWRP on it, you can flash pretty much any ROM that was built for the snapdragon processor on your phone, just dont Odin flash anything that wasnt built for your phone.

S5 lollipop upgrade question

I rooted My S5 with this link https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...oot-method-t3561529/post71202995#post71202995 but now I can't get Samsung cloud, Samsung Sync or Samsung backup to work. I have search the Web for a stock ROM to extract those files from but no luck. Is there a way to upgrade to Marshmallow 6.0 and still keep root? The link that I used says you can flash Marshmallow but will loose root.
I would be happy with a rooted stock Marshmallow and may get back the Samsung account.
So my question , "Is there any way to upgrade from rooted lollipop to a rooted Marshmallow ? This link says you can, but I am not sure if it will work with the Toshiba chip.http://www.samsungsfour.com/tutoria...0v-verizon-on-marshmallow-6-0-1-firmware.html
Can anyone give me some thought and advise ?
Thanks for your time.
Scotty
Nah bro that won't work you will get stuck on the Verizon screen with the Toshiba chipset but here try this link maybe it can help you out kind of bc this is the closes you're going to get to root on Verizon's locked bootloaders https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...ow-to-flash-custom-6-0-1-roms-locked-t3393943
Thanks GUNSEY101, atleast now I know for sure and not just guessing and wondering. I think it is about time to trash this phone and buy a new one.
This one has been a pain in my bottom ever since I bought it.
Thank you for the help and clearing up the rooted MM delima.
Scotty
No problem dude glad I could help the sm-g900v is a great phone......When it doesn't have the Toshiba chipset otherwise you're right it's a pain so I'd say get a new one hahaha
Up that Toshiba chip is the downfall of the phone. I like the S5 a lot and have tried to live with it because I don't think the S6 or s7 is really a upgrade. So I don't really know what phone I will get but it will not be a Verizon.
Thanks again for your help
Scotty
Oh yeah I love my S5 luckily it doesn't have the Toshiba chipset haha and yes the Toshiba chip kinda ruined it bt Verizon has a huge stick up there asses hahaha and Meh I'd say s7 is a bit of an upgrade due to the fact they found a way to root 7.0 however it's very experamental right I'd say https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s7/how-to/how-rooted-s7-nougatand-fixed-lag-t3576393

New to Rooting, requesting assistance with the S7 Edge

Hey, I'm pretty new to rooting but I've recently purchased a Verizon G935V Galaxy S7 Edge running the latest Nougat version and I've spent the past day attempting to figure out how to root this thing correctly, with my version of the s7 edge and nougat. I don't usually feel the need to make any posts requesting assistance because usually with enough googling I can figure it out myself, but I've given up. Please guide me in the right path to get this thing rooted, I can't seem to find any recent videos or forum post with the correct versions I'm looking for.
Verzion Qualcomm Snapdragon SM-G935V S7 Edge running 7.0 Nougat with April 1st, 2017 Android Security Patch Level. If anymore information is needed, feel free to ask
Thanks in advance.

Upgrading Galaxy S5 G900A (AT&T variant) to Lollipop.

Hi guys,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 AT&T variant running Android 4.4.2. I am not in the US, and I do not have an AT&T sim so I cannot upgrade it to Android 5 Lollipop over the air.
I have searched all over the internet and also on this forum, and I'm very confused because I've read some conflicting reports on the upgrade path for this device.
Some articles mention I need to upgrade to android 4.4.4 before I can upgrade to android 5. Others do not.
My bootloader is not rooted, nor do I want to root it. I mention this because I have read in multiple places the rooting the G900A is a huge pain in the ass, and also that once you upgrade, Lollipop's bootloader cannot be rooted.
I have attached a screenshot of the baseband, kernel and build information. I would be eternally grateful if you could help me with this upgrade.
Mir.
