MIUI 12 Broken Bug - Initial setup - Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Questions & Answers

Hi there,
I have this problem with MIUI 12. I've flashed it many times via TWRP and OrangeRecovery but either way I have the same two bugs. This happens when doing initial setup -Google and MIUI inital configuration after first boot-
First, in Google setup, when asks me to create a password/pin/etc, I have to do it twice. After the second one, some reported bug appears and I can report/notify it. Then black screen and starts the MIUI setup.
Secondly, in MIUI setup, when I accept Terms & Conditions again some bug appears and I can report it. I get stucked here.
I don't have any of these problems in MIUI 11 and AOSP. I tried flashing many times, with different wipes, formating data, different recoveries, and also flashing different firmwares. Also, this happened in two different MIUI 12 builds:
MIUI 12 Builds tried:
Xiaomi EU 20.5.13 - WEEKLY | Android 10.
MiuiMIX 20.4.27 Weekly For Lavender | android 10.
Miui Hellas xtrv - WEEKLY V12 Test | Android 10.
Xiaomi EU Weekly V12 - BETA | Android 10.

How I install step by step:
1. Format data
2. Wipe caches/system/vendor
3. Flashed fw
4. Flashed recovery rom

Any help please?

I have the same problem on Dipper, the only way to get MIUI12 is, flashing MIUI11, finish setup then dirty flash MIUI12. Or install REVOS12, they figured out removing the Goggle setup From initial configuration, so you can add Goggle account later.

Redmi Note3 [Hennessy][Mtk]- All ROM's, Tweaks, Unlock, MIUI 7.1, Global, ROOT, GApps

Hello Everyone
Since DEVDB is not accepting "Redmi Note 3" I am starting this thread to share all the best ROM's, Tweaks & tricks for the Helios-X10 based Hennessy
All link's & uploads will be posted in this OP once the thread is approved.
0) XIAOMI.EU 7.2.3.0 ROM (Stable & Developer) (no China apps, Rooted, Xposed, Gapps) - THIS IS THE BEST!
1) China ROM - Official (Stable & Developer) UPDATE mode (full of China apps, no Root, no Gapps)
2) China ROM - Official (Stable & Developer) - MIUI 7.1.8.0, SP Flash tools mode (full of China apps, no Root, no Gapps)
3) Global ROM - SphinX v2b ManhIT (MIUI 7.1.3.0 Stable with SwiftKey, SuperSU, GApps & no China apps)
4) Global ROM - by LoXar (MIUI 7.1.6.0 Stable with Super SU2.66, GApps, & no China apps)
5) sMIUI ROM Kitchen (needs custom Recovery - by Handam000)
6) sCM12.1 Unofficial for RN3
Hacks & Tweaks
1) Fingerprint Sensor fix by Shade5
2) Un-brick your Redmi Note 3 if SPFlashTools failed
3) Restore/Change IMEI number
Coming up...
Tweaking 2G/3G/4G band settings , Battery Tweaks , Rooting, SuperSU, GApps ,Unlocking Bootloader
Enjoy!
Shade5
This will activate the hardware of your Fingerprint sensor if you've flashed the SphinXv2b Stable_Redmi_Note3_MIUI7.1.3.0_Global_ManhIT ROM and found the Fingerprint sensor not working...
All steps are same as you did for flashing the ROM (screenshot & instructions are also in the zip folder)
First download my Fix attached here & unzip it on your desktop
1) Use SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1516.00 (not included - use the same one which you flashed your ROM with)
2) select Download Agent (DA_SWSEC.BIN) in the FLASH TOOL folder
3) find Scatter file (MT6795_Android_scatter.txt) in the IMAGES folder
However
4) Only untick SYSTEM & USERDATA ,keep the rest selected
Now flash away as normal & reboot once done....
This fix will not affect your apps/data & will immediately ask you to enter your fingerprint - only this time... IT WORKS :good:
IF for any reason you managed to "brick" your phone, just flash the stock China ROM again from the OP or follow the un-brick link for more instructions
Enjoy!

Hi,

Thanks

Hi ZMS...
Firstly just to be sure - did you SPTools flash the SphinX v2b ROM?
After that if you flash my files exactly as per the screenshot I have put in the folder, the Fingerprint sensor driver's get installed.
(BTW on my 16gb the SphinX v2b works but it didn't work on the 32GB, so I made this fix.zip)
I found this ROM was the cleanest n best hence I made this fix (rather than flashing the Chinese or LoXar rom)
Let me know how it goes for you
Hi
I followed your instructions as described and flashed with spflash tool. I will try again and also tried to reboot it but that didn't work. Is there anything else I can check?
That's strange!
Mine (3G/32G) came with SphinX V1 installed and I moved to V2b without any issue.
.I then flashed LoXar 7.1.6.0 on it with SPflashtool (following MIUI EU trend) and live with it now.
No big sensible difference between the two versions, and finger print is working best from the beginning .
Why not to try Loxar and check if issue is solved and in case it will still be present to clean the phone with a China dev version and reapply SphinX as ultimate check.
Edit:
Thanks again to you @ Shade5 for opening this thread

It's important to untick "preloader" too ! When you don't do that, there's a risk, that your device bricks. You always have to do that when you flash non-stock things with SP-Flashtool.
Btw. What's with custom roms for the Redmi Note 3 ? They should be in your first post too...
Is the xposed useful if I install
Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using Tapatalk

Try to reflash SphinX Rom ( http://en.miui.com/thread-207019-1-1.html ) and pay attention that you untick "preloader". Good Luck. :fingers-crossed:
And when this isn't working, try this method: Use SP Tool V5.1516 for flashing the rom (Untick preloader!!). Instead holding only the Vol Down button, Hold Both Vol Down + Power button when plugging the usb cable in. The progress bar should turn yellow and the flash should be completed. Turn on the device, it will take some time, but it should work.

I have the 3GB RAM version but I had that MIUI version on my device when I bought it too. It's an unofficial shop version. I would switch to an official MIUI version because your version doesn't get updated. I can recommend the latest developer version 6.1.29.

I'd need some info before I can help you out....
1) Is your phone 16 or 32 GB?
2) What was the initial ROM version on it
3) Did you flash the CHINA stable ROM before the SphinX v2b?

Hi @lolo9393 , glad the thread is catching on
Some Redmi's are "pre-flashed" with shop-rom's that have Play store
These versions dont register the fingerprint driver's once flashed
I have both 16GB (China, Stable stock, no Play store) & 32GB(Singapore, stable ROM with Play store) RN3's
My fix only re-flashes these (which you didn't as your stock driver's were still working)

Beta 9 flashed fine, su fine, viper4audio fine, tried flash xposed-xposedSDK24 by PurifyOS (don't work but it's optionally for me)
BUT i got bigger problem with google play - first tried package that worked on MIUI 8 (don't work), then installed OpenGappsPico (don't work too), tried with this google installer apk shared in first post but i cant install play services - system says "can't downgrade[...]"
System works stable but I faced issues with google apps - many FC's I got, then I switched off FC's in dev settings.
Google play issues may be caused becouse i flashed rom with MiFlash 'save user data' chosen option.
I'll watch if clean install 'll help but don't have free time now.
Greetz, thanks for rom links

in the next update, I'll add full OTA zip links so that you guys can flash without losing data. and I think I'm gonna keep updating the thread even after official release, cause sometime MIUI team pushes updates to Beta testers first.
Is the alpha rom updated on dialy basis or weekly basis for alpha users??

report this bug on xiaomi.eu website
what is the bug? can you describe it?
during a call my microphone does not work anymore, so the person can not hear me anymore. It has already been reported ?
Why wipe internal storage before flashing the rom? From what I understand, it's generally not wiped in other devices. and what is the problem with wiping system? its not done anyway by the rom install?

1. We want to have a clean installation for less problems, wiping internal storage will clear the device from folders and files that were on the previous system.
2. Xiaomi.eu doesnt work like a normal custom rom. it acts like an update to your MIUI which is installed over the previous installation of official MIUI so basiccly it changes the previous system. Wiping system partition before installing the rom will cause a lot of problems later and might not even work.

Not yet. Im on 8.7.26. No microphone issues but I have only made 3 calls.
Do these need to be updated every time or can you skip a few weeks and only update as you feel like it?
Just a quick question. Can I request to unlock bootloader with the vendor rom installed or do I need to flash another rom first? My Mi Max 3 should arrive tomorrow and it will definitely have a multi language global (vendor) rom on it.
Also, can I follow the guide on the first post to flash Xiaomi.eu rom directly over the vendor rom?
Thanks for any info..

The bootloader will be unlocked by the vendor so thats not a problem.
I suggest not to install this over the vendor rom as the vendor rom broke some partitions on your device and has an unofficial system partition which will be flashed by Xiaomi.eu rom.
Follow my tutorial: here
you will be on latest china official beta and from there follow my instructions for xiaomi.eu

Thank you so much for the detailed reply, I really appreciate all the information.
Just the confirm, the moment I get the phone I would be able to enter fastboot mode, flash the official chinese rom, then return to fastboot, flash TWRP and from there flash Xiaomi.eu and there will be no 15 day waiting period for the bootloader unlock?

Well I can not be sure about that, but when you get the phone go to developer options and check if your device is unlocked, even if it says its not try flashing twrp it might work.

[FIX][GSI][TWRP] Mi Max 3 ROMs

What is this topic about?
I've spent quite some time writing fixes for GSIs to work properly on our Mi Max 3.
As part of that, we now have a list of easily flashable fully working Mi Max 3 ROMs to pick from.
This topic will be used to keep track of all fully working ROMs and of course to host the latest set of GSI patches / flash templates.
Available ROMs:
These have been tested and confirmed fully working (sans ROM-specific bugs).
AOSiP
Build date: 2019-05-14
Patch date: 2019-05-17
Flashing guide:
Unlock your device's bootloader.
Flash nijel8's modded TWRP recovery.
Pick and download one of the available ROMs.
Reboot into TWRP recovery and flash your ROM of choice.
Go into TWRP's wipe menu and "factory reset" your device (aka. slide the bar).
Flash Gapps (Opengapps / Bitgapps) if your ROM of choice requires / you want it.
Reboot your phone and set it up to your liking.
How can I get my ROM of choice listed here?
Download the TWRP package template from here!
Grab a GSI of your choice and unpack the system image (if it is compressed).
Rename the unpacked system image to system.img and place it inside the system folder inside the template zip file.
Rename the resulting zip file accordingly, flash it, test it, and after you've confirmed everything's working fine, upload and share it.
How do I enable DT2W (double-tap to wake)?
Create a file named "enable_dt2w" (without the quotes) in your device's internal storage.
Reboot your device.

Stuck how? If you have "unlock" trouble, as in, your PIN won't let you in, use the "Remove lockscreen" option inside TWRP to remove your previous lockscreen data.
No no, when you reboot your phone there is first MI logo and unlocked sign at bottom. I cant get pass that screen.

Before installing their zip, they had some lags in screen transitions and to slide and open apps. Now, everything got more fluid and faster. It was great ... until voLTE is working (and my operator informed me that my device was not compatible with haha).

What vendor is your device on? Many GSI's only start at a particular vendor (Oreo or Pie).

Make sure the GSI you picked supports Pie vendors.
Not every GSI does... and the ones that are still stuck on Oreo vendors are... troublesome, to say the least.
AOSiP supports pie vendor and so does pixel experience but no luck. If i update recocery, will that help? I really wanna try one gsi if lag is now fixed.

The last time I had problems in booting the GSI roms I did the following:
1- I reinstalled the latest global version of Miui Oreo via miflash (Beware of ARB)
2- Logged in the Mi account, enabled the USB debugging and installation by ADB settings to install the TWRP
3- I installed TWRP (nijel8's modded), formatted the data and then installed xiaomi.eu
4- I configured the device and made a backup of xiaomi.eu
5- As I already had the files, I installed AOSIP, without deleting the system, just cleaning the data of xiaomi.eu
6- After the boot, I installed the gapps and magisk.
I never had any problems installing GSI's on my device.
When I was in Miui Oreo, I tested some roms that only boot the Oreo vendor (Bootleggers, PixelDust among others), but I think with the Oreo vendor they spend a little more battery life.
(hope this helps you)
guys, i want to try this but not trigger arb, with .eu or aosp, pixel experience etc.. i'll trigger it?

No ARB on xiaomi.eu as they don't ship firmware into it. No ARB on gsi of course. So no worry about it

So if i install this rom https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/miui-10-0-10-1-10-2-stable-release.47170/ i'm ok and without arb? I get confused because on the image they say mi max 3 has arb, if they mean the official 10.2 has arb, why even put the image in the .eu version? It just confuses people.
So i go with this rom reach setup screen, recovery and install the gsi rom?

Try the xiaomi.eu versions from last month based on installing AOSiP. Today I tried with the versions of this month and did not boot.
I am having the exact same issue. I followed the guide and installed the latest xiaomi.eu 9.3.7 beta and boot no problem then i flash gsi .img and it gets stuck at MI Logo and wont go any further. I have tried latest xiaomi.eu beta, stable, last months, month before that. All xiaomi.eu boot fine without issue but as soon as I flash any gsi .img it gets stuck at MI Logo screen? Am I doing something wrong?
Also the gsi i am using is latest pixel experience arm64 A only.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Same. I tried 3 different GSI roms and kept being stuck on the mi logo... :'(
only aosp gsi works, still getting android.process.media and bluetooth crashes
Edit: instead of com.android.media it was android.process.media
I tried installing Descendant_TwoDotOne. It stuck on the mi logo when pairing it with xiaomi.eu 9.3.7 & 9.3.1. It works perfectly when paired with xiaomi.eu 9.2.21 (or earlier version should work). I guess there may be some changes made to the 9.3 version vendor content leading to this problem.

You're my hero! That did the trick. ;D
So can i normaly flash older xiaomi.eu version without fear of ARB?
OP post updated with a new package.
Changelog:
Tweaked the governor to boost properly and use the 1.6 / 1.8GHz maximum little / big frequencies. (Everything's even smoother now~)

I'm using stock xiaomi.eu 10 stable. A8.1
Also which magisk version should we use?
Flashing procedure and / or prerequisites are missing from op..

The bug with the wifi is not a bug, it is caused by any router. Each time miui 12 connects to your router or any other router, changes the mac address of your wifi adapter for privacy reasons. You can set it to device default to avoid this issue.

Use orangefox 10.1 stable for encryption / decryption, orangefox 11 beta has bug with encryption / decryption.
If you can't decrypt with orangefox 10.1, you can FORMAT (not WIPE) internal memory to remove encryption.
And don't forget to BACKUP your important data.

Better use Orangefox 10.1 stable. It is based off TWRP and doesn't have the issues the original TWRP had with Redmi 5 plus.
Orangefox 11 is beta and has bug with encryption / decryption..
