oneplus 8 photocrome - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

how does that photocrome mode for camera works? does it simply add some effects? or is a more complex option? can it really see through clothes?

Google, ”IR camera"
If you want more insight, google, "sony 1998 camera handyman" too as it'll pull up some interesting stuff that this camera can do.
It's essentially an IR camera though.

[Q] Front camera and Barcode Scanner, etc.

About the only thing I could see myself missing a rear camera for would be scanning things like QR codes, bar codes, etc. Is it safe to assume that Barcode Scanner, Google Shopper, et al, would be able to scan using the front camera? I realize it might be a bit tricky at first because you wouldn't be able to see the screen well, if at all. With practice, though, I think you'd be able to figure it out.
"My impression" is that a front camera is addressed differently than a back camera.
Barcode scanners and camera apps might not work with the Nexus 7 without software modification.
For now, it remains to be seen how useful the front camera will be for other than video chatting.
Anyone verified Skype works with this yet?

Hi, I'm an author of Barcode Scanner. It doesn't use the front camera since only rear cameras are treated as 'real' cameras by Android, and the API for using second cameras appeared later than the API leve the app supports (2.3), which makes it tricker.
We made a 'premium' version that does, among other things, support front-camera-only devices like the Nexus 7.
Search for "barcode scanner plus" on Google Play -- sorry I can't posts links yet

How to change default camera app?

I never liked Sony's camera app, so I decided to switch to Camera FV-5. Is there a way that I can make Camera FV-5 my default camera app? I want this to be the app that launches when I hold down on the shutter button or when I open the camera app from the lock screen.
On a side note, while I quite like Camera FV-5, is there another app you folks can recommend?
Shutter button? Are you sure you choose proper phone forum section? Because Xperia Z doesnt have shutter button
Only quick way to open camera on XZ is lockscreen shortcut, and depending on OS version you can put on it shortcut for app.
Also most of camera apps have buried setting for making it default, so its not necessary to force it to be system application.
In terms of Camera app, Im also not a fan of Sony Camera app, but for most of time its not app fault but sony messed up camera ""drivers"".
After Xperia Arc S I think Sony had really average cameras you can get compared to other phones(I didnt personally check z5 tho, rest I tested and its really average).
Also it should be mentioned that no matter what app you use, image processing is still move though Sony camera algorithms, so end product beside some additional color/contrast changes, doesnt get any details or overall quality boost.
Maybe there are some changes in HDR/ISO part, but its still putting one image processing on another and its never good.
I tried different apps, but beside initial WOW effect its always end in situation where those apps had too much smaller problems or just had too much useless effect that make that app annoying more than stock app, So I always end with stock app, because I would rather use it as a simple point-and-shoot camera even if its a bit slow(4-5 sec from unlocking to taking pic) its take looots of resources and battery, and some options are hard/slow to use.
For more "advanced" shoots I still use my camera, and its sad , because I was using phone camera starting from SE k750i and I always loved that idea.
Yes I did post this question in the wrong forum, I have a Z3, my apologies.
As for the app,, I do realize that all apps in the end go through Sony's processing. What I'm looking for is an app that offers me more control (ie. a proper manual control). Also I find the tap to focus doesn't work very well (or at all) with the Sony app.

Panorama mode in Essential camera app

Hi, I have my PH-1 for a couple of days now and I like the pure Android and as well the camera app. There is however one single function that I miss - and that is a panorama mode for photos. I do have the 360° camera, but this is something different ... I use the panorama mode very often to have a "wide angle" photo, especially for landscape photography. Especially with the zoom factor of the PH-1 camera this would make sense. Manually putting photos together is much work.
Am I wrong or is this function not implemented so far?
Cheers,
Eriol
It's not there. I've come to rely on taking a series of individual pictures in sequence and letting Google Photos string them together through its magic. Actually does a really nice job and manages to block out some things that panoramic modes don't, like people moving through the picture. It is a limitation, though, that I hope will arrive with another update, however there are still some overall quality issues I hope they sort out first.

Manual Focus for camera

While I love most things about my phone, I hate the camera. It way too often wants to focus on the background of my photos instead of what I'm actually trying to take a photo of. Before I upgrade to the 7T or possibly back to a Samsung for this single issue I have... Are there any options or apps I'm missing that have the ability to manually focus the camera?

Google camera app

Google camera app can be installed on LOS 18.1 and yes, indeed: it does take very good photos!
But on the downside, when I tap the just taken picture, it tells me in order to view my photos I need to download another Google photo/gallery app, which will, according to the description, sort my photos automatically and upload it to Google drive. That are two things I surely don't want!
Is there any way to make the Google camera app work with some other, locally installed gallery app?
you can organize and view your photos in any other image manager.
however for the issue of looking at the picture right after it's taken and not be redirected to google photos I dont know the solution.
there are tons of gcam mods (<3).
perhaps one of those managed to change this behaviour
Thanks for the hint about gcam mods! I will try to find a suitable mod for me.
I know I can use any gallery app I want, but I find it annoying that Google want to force my pictures onto their servers, just because I want to use their camera app. Pictures I shoot are nothing that needs to be hidden, but I also don't want them "in the cloud". And I certainly don't want an algorithm made by G to sort my pictures!
