Hi!
I bought my Oneplus 8 pro with the launch day bundle in the US.
In the quick start guide which is included with the phone, the following 5G bands are supported n1, n3, n7, n28, n78.
However, on the US website, these bands are listed n2, n5, n41, n66, n71.
Do you have any idea which one is right or how I could test it?
I really need the EU 5G bands due to me traveling very often to Europe.
If they are not supported out of the box, is there a way how I could change it so these bands are supported?
Thank you very much!
Right now some carriers in some countries are not supported just yet. There will be an OTA later to enable the remaining bands and add 5G / 4G dual SIM support probably.
Not all the bands are being supported doesn't mean that you'll have no signal at all, more like it will not be as strong as the other phones meant for that area.
In my country it works, my n78 and my device supports n78 but 5g is not working what is the reason

It's a major issue and everyone impacted should contact Oneplus support to put pressure on them. I bought the device because it was geared up with N78 band which is used by my operator. Still 5G doesn't work. I performed a test with a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra in my left hand, 5G worked just fine, and a Oneplus 8 Pro in my right hand, no connection to 5G possible. It is not acceptable for a device of this price, it should be 5G ready out of the box.
Thank you, you tried the Uk room? For n78

Is it the same hardware for all the region? Would a china op8 work with european bands if flashed te proper firmware/modem?

I have made instruction to enable 5G on any network: https://mt-tech.fi/en/modify-oneplus-7-pro-5g-8-and-8-pro-nr-lte-a-band-combos/ - hower it's limited by hardware supported bands.

I just want to say thank you! It worked in Thailand and now I have 5G with TrueMove-H.
The only annoying part is that the latest update 10.5.8 did erase the setting and I had to redo all the steps to get back on 5G.
Cheers!

I had to use Serial or Full-port switch to have PDC recognize it.
Hope this helps!

You may have to add port manually to QPST. Check on Device Manager right COM-port to add. Normally your computer should recognize device automatically.

As you might know, the Mi 6 was announced today. The specs look great for the price (see http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/new-product/mobile-phone/xiaomi-mi6-news-release-date-price-features-specifications-3653263/) and I thought I finally found the phone I really wanted.
But then the old story hit me again. No support for LTE band 20. As I live in Germany this means no matter what provider I have, I will be affected with less LTE coverage.
So I created this thread to gather any news that involve the possibility and efforts of unlocking the LTE band 20 on the Mi 6.
I hope there are maybe similarities with the ongoing efforts of unlocking the bands of the Mi 5 (http://en.miui.com/thread-242834-1-1.html or here https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/how-to/progress-trying-to-unlock-bands-t3337476).
When the Mi 6 is shipped, I hope this will get some attention and we may find a way to unlock it together. :fingers-crossed:
I have the Mi Note Pro and I never spotted anyone succeeding in unlocking band 20.
I live in France and band 20 is one of the 3 main bands but I never suffered any need for band 20. I even had a Sony Z5 premium which had all French bands and I had to switch to 3g because it wouldn't receive well when I am in bed.
Depending on your carrier if you have just another band and live in a city, not having band 20 is not a deal breaker in my humble opinion.
If you really need it I wouldn't wait for sure for a way to unlock band 20.
Mi6 can work with AT&T network?

Yes that is a valid point. As I live in Berlin I won't have any problems here. But since I travel around a lot for work countryside coverage would be a good benefit. But as you mentioned band 20 won't stop me from getting the Mi6.
This thread is just if anybody comes up with a good idea on how this could be done. Just as a 'bonus'.
The most active in unlocking lte bands are people in the OnePlus forum as far as I know.

Band 20 in mi5 CAN NOT be unlocked. It is hardware limited. Please read thread mi5, page 76.

You could say the same for Oneplus's global and China variant. They must have their reasons. I'm sure everyone, let alone, Xiaomi, know that they don't benefit for locking the bands. So, there's no point speculating on why and rather to just accept the obvious that it was not for the US market or any other country that It's not being sold officially.
Hi I am interested in buying the Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 5g mainly because T-Mobile is going live with 5g where I live on Decemeber 6th 2019. But from what I know the this phone doesn't support the 5g bands for T-Mobile.
I heard that there is a way to unlock those bands on Qualcomm devices and this phone uses the Snapdragon SOC.
Can this be done?

So the bands for 5g that tmobile supports is not dependent on just the processor, its also dependent on what the manufacturer decides on. As with all phones, you need to see what is the most compatible cell phone provider for that phone. If the mi mix 3 does not support tmobile bands, there's no way to force it to.

Correct. I've had a discussion on a Mi Mix 3 5g thread where this guy says it's a update thing not a hardware thing. Which I feel he's clearly wrong. Cell bands have nothing to do with updates, it's a hardware thing.
Dear slimegpod,
The frequency is supported in hardware but we did trials and only the Vodafone and global rom version has the Vodafone de 5g Network activated.
So I am on eu rom and cannot use Vodafone de 5g only Telekom and I am planning to switch ROMs but waiting for a moment to unlock since I will lose all my data.

Carrier Support Not needed for mi mix 3 5g
Dear slimegood,
I called my carrier and the result was that they communicated the values to connect to the 5g network to Xiaomi and they need to add it to their firmware. The problem being that some variants of the firmware have not picked up the configuration options.

Any luck? The phone does not support 5G out of the box. According to manufacturers website, "5G function will be available via OTA update. Update times depend on your specific carrier and network."

There should be a option under network settings. I it seems the development for this device is crap though (as far as the updates are concerned). It sucks it's on MIUI v10 which I understand why but they still should've had this figured out before releasing it.
Thanks.
Well thanks for the feedback, if the firmware gets released somebody let me know. I really like the phone, but compatibility with USA 5g is really important to me.
i dont think it will ever get 5g support in the states - it uses a different 5g tech than what the us telecoms are proceeding with as far as i was told.
Stating that - i use it on t-mobile and i get great 4g in most places.
Today Vodafone NL launched 5G in part of the Netherlands and I was anxious to start using it. However I can't seem to find a way to enable it on my OP8Pro I can only choose 2g / 2g+3g / 2g+3g+4g
I am using 2 simcards and am aware that using dualsim can bother the 5g option. Only tray 1 supports it for now according to OP. Still when I remove the 2nd Sim I don't get 5g
Anyone have a clue how to enable it?
Here's what I see in Sim settings
I think you need a specific 5G card for that, I might be wrong. Also your mobile data plan needs to support 5G.

According to my provider both my simcard and my data plan support 5g, they even started that I should have massive reception at my location. I tested it with a Samsung S20 and it works like a charm. Somehow my OP8Pro doesn't work and Vodafone doesn't want to help because they don't sell the OP.
Well, according to the manual, you should see the option 2G/3G/4G/5G (Automatic)...
Also, I found this in the manual too:
Restrictions in 5GHz band
The device is restricted to indoor use only when
operating in the 5150 to 5350 MHz frequency
range in following countries:
AT, BE, BG, HR, CY, CZ, DK, EE, FI, FR, DE, EL, HU, IE, IT, LV, LT, LU, MT, NL, PL, PT, RO, SK, SI, ES, SE, UK

And these are the bands supported by the OP8: n1, n3, n7, n28, n78
And these by the S20: n1, n3, n5, n7, n8, n28, n40, n77, n78
So it looks like the S20 supports 4 extra bands which the OP8 does not(n5, n8, n40, n77).
I don't know what band Vodafone is using in the Netherlands unfortunately, couldn't find information about this.
What you could try is to reset the APNs in the Network settings to default, then restart the phone. Other than this, I'm clueless.
One more thing. Make sure the SIM is in the first slot indicated by SIM1.
It seems they're using Dynamic Spectrum Sharing over the 4g bands but not sure which one(s) they use. Sadly the s20 does work so it seems it must be one of the bands the OP8Pro doesn't support

Speak with your provider, it's not something you can turn on on your device.
Also might be noteworthy, when I had two Sims in it wouldn't do to 5G. Soon as I put just my contract one in I saw 5G.

Vodafone Netherlands is using a part of the existing 1800 4g bandwidth for 5g. (N3)
Don't expect it to be faster then the existing 4g.
The other providers are not going to support 5g existing frequenties. But instead will wait for the government to auction the new 700 and 1400 in June. all providers are already installing the radios and antennas for those frequenties through the country. So expect to be able to use 5g in the Netherlands in June in most major city's.
Unfortunately the needed 3500 will not be made available by the government in the Nederlands till 2022.
Greetings from a Dutch telecom engineer.

Do you have 5G listed under your preferred network type? (should say 5G / 4G / 3G / 2G (Automatic) )
If so, then 5G is enabled on the handset.
If not, do you have 2 SIM cards inserted? - if you do, 5G will be disabled
Is your ONE SIM card 5G enabled? - if not, 5G will be disabled

That's not actually 5G I'm sure, use cell mapper and see if it says LTE+NR or just LTE, If it doesn't show +NR, you're getting a false 5G flag that is reporting a 5G capable tower but you aren't actually connecting to 5G.
See the screenshots below for comparison:

Thank you for this! So these towers can't emit a 5g signal. Do you know why?
Along with the differences, can anyone on TMobile confirm this model works with dual Sims? Wanted to get it on eBay but US versions arent active yet, so need international version as long as 5g works on dual SIM.

Can you send to me modem log when phone shows LTE+NR same time and NR Connected?
OnePlus 8 Pro IN2020 China model support only n41 5G band used in USA. I try list all supported combos used in TMUS: https://cacombos.com/device?model=IN2020&combolist=america_tmus_plmns . This model example doesn't support widely used n71 low band 5G.

T-Mobile is using the upper later indicator (a cell site that supports NR ENDC capability) to show the 5G signal icon in your status bar, not actual NR connectivity. So when you see the 5G indicator, it just means you're connected to a site and band that supports aggregating LTE+NR (ENDC), not that you're necessarily connected to NR.
So even if your phone does not support any T-Mobile 5G NR bands, it will still show 5G in the status bar if the cell site you're connected to supports aggregating LTE and NR together. T-Mobile even has cell sites broadcasting the upper later indicator with no 5G NR signal nearby, so even phones with T-Mobile NR bands will show the 5G icon a lot of the time without an actual NR signal.
The IN2020 does not support T-Mobile N71 NR.

Do we have a clear, step by step on how to do this? I've tried flashing the IN2025 firmware via local update but it still shows as In2020 with disabled camera.
Might want to back up your persist partition before you do that. May break it

Well yes, but I'm trying to get it to flash to IN2025. It's just not doing it.
Flashing software does not change the hardware. You're on an IN2020, and OOS will report as such even when you flash intl OOS.
So essentially, there's no way to get it to re-enable the IR camera.

Someone may have created a Magisk module to re-enable it?

Well, that thread was locked before there was a magisk link posted. The other guide is to either enter a debug mode or to use a GCam hack which unfortunately crashes a lot.

Just be careful with that. Also if you're rooted back up your persist partition

If the phone does not support your radio bands, changing the firmware to the unlocked Global FW won't enable them.
If your carriers radio bands are supported by the IN2020, you may need to add their band combos as per this guide:

He hasn't changed the hardware, he has changed code to trick the phone to get the photochrom filter back, this will not work on band's for 5G
i have a Photochrome option when i use my camera, does that mean that it's still in though.

Yes if the option is there you will have either a phone that isn't IN2020 or 21 or if you do you have one of those phones you aren't running the latest firmwar for that phone.
Where To Get This Model EDL Mode Firmware , One Plus 8 Pro China (IN2020)
My understanding of 5G support by these different phones is in the link here, https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mgz7Z6TADnXZgpCdCoLeRHX22wC_vLq8/view?usp=sharing . I am currently in the U.S. and a T-Mobile customer but planning to move to Europe one of these days. Though T-Mobile only supports the n71 band today (not supported by IN2020), it will be rolling out the n41 band (supported by IN2020) soon with the merger of Sprint. On the other hand, n78 (supported by IN2020) is quite common throughout Europe. With that said, the Chinese Model, IN2020, seems to be the best compromise if one travels extensively. It overlaps with the European bands over several different frequencies and one US band that I know of (n41).
Unless of course you are an AT&T customer, then IN2025 is the only way to go because they use n5. In this case, you won't get 5G coverage while you are traveling internationally (except on n41 in China) because the US 5G is just so different than overseas.
None of these models support mmWave, and these phones will become antiques first before mmWave is ubiquitous anyway. If even fingers can attenuate the mmWave signal, we are talking about at least several transmitters on every city block to make it practical! That said as of 2020, I wouldn't spend extra $150-200 USD for a phone that supports mmWave. Google's new Pixel 5 could have been $150 cheaper without it.
Other than the radio compatibility, I can't really think of a good reason to convert an IN2020 to IN2025. If I'm missing something, please enlighten me.
The method described by Whoareyou sounds very interesting. I may try that one of these days.

Here's my story.
I got my OP8pro in China, and once it's in my hand I flashed it from H2 OS to Oxygen OS. Through the past two years my model was showing as IN2020 with no issues until I saw a Beta version of Android 12 Oxygen OS. I flashed it and the model turned to IN2025...I googled the difference and that's how I get here.
