Oneplus Wireless Charger Speed - OnePlus 8 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi guys, I was lucky enough to get a free wireless charger with my phone from Oneplus.
Since then I have been testing the speeds and I am pretty surprised about how slow it is.
Now I realize that this might be faster than most wireless chargers, but I was wondering if you guys could post your times, ballpark, from either 50% to 100% or near dead to 100%. Something measurable.
My phone is at 4%, I put it on the charger and it says 1 hour and 43 minutes to full. Is that expected? Do yours show similar?

That doesn't seem right. Did you check your settings on the phone? My S20 Ultra with a bigger battery and much slower wireless charging takes less time to fully charge.

First from gsam after letting it sit for ~30 seconds to establish a good connection, and 2nd from ACCA. This is the charging current it states for me.

Unless there is a setting to turn on on the phone to enable fast wireless charging, and I don't think there is, it doesn't seem to be working correctly. I could try to plug the charger in another outlet. Not sure what other variables there are.

My charging speeds are also slower. Even slower then on my 15W Samsung wireless charger. Any ideas why?

I get fast charge with my Samsung fast wireless chargers. I going to return their Warp charger.

Wireless charging not providing as much juice as charging via USB cable?

Does charging the phone via the Samsung official wireless stand (or any other wireless chargers) causes it to have "less overall capacity" on the battery compared to charging it via USB cable? E.g. Once charged to 100%, does wireless charging provide less capacity compared to charging it via USB cable?
Note that I'm not talking about charging speed or rate, I'm more interested to know about the battery's overall performance when charged using wireless vs cable.

Sorry, misread your question the first time.
No, 100% is 100%, whether you charge wired or wireless, fast charge or slow. The battery tells the phone when it's full, and the phone tells the charger to stop charging.
I always seem to have better battery when I use the plug instead of wireless.

Charging query

Hey guys, i have a few questions regarding charging:
- I was wondering how fast the P10 plus charges with its included charger?
- Is it compatible with a quick charge 3.0 charger ?Have your tried using one? Would it charge just as fast?
- How about using a powerbank how long does it take to charge?
I just wanted to get an idea because the phone i have right now charges super slow (almost 3 hours) . It would be nice to have a fast charging capable phone, less than 2 hours would be even better! Thanks and cheers!
Full charge completed in about an hour.
I believe the phone is using the same SuperCharge technology as the Mate 9. Not sure if any power banks support it yet. But QuickCharge ought to work a bit faster, then regular charging? Don't quote me on that though.
Anyone an idea if you can disable the Quickcharge function? I reckon if not needed, it will be always better for your battery to charge it slowly.

Change the usb cable with normal one it will charge slowly
Think my post on this subject in the P10 forum may be of help/interest as it applies to the P10+ as well... Especially to clarify the non compatibilty with Qualcomm Quick chargers
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72386219&postcount=3
Incidentally, for the nerds amongst us (is that all of us? Lol!) the theoretical fastest time to charge the P10+ from flat would be 50 minutes on a Super charger (3750mAh battery with a 5V4.5A/4.5V5A charger).
I've seen rates of well over 1% per min on my P10 to start with, although this drops as the battery gets over 90%, but I'd be suprised if it would take more than 90 mins unless the phone was being used heavily at the same time.
Around an hour would be a very good time overall, probably a more average time would be around 75 mins

Thanks, yes! I already noticed this 'solution'.
So far, I can't find a software solution to disable it.

TMobile S8 charging.

Is it just me or the S8 charge slow. I'm coming from a Note 5 and it charges pretty damn quick. Right now I'm at 53% and the phone says approximately 55 minutes till full.

That sounds about right.
Fast charging is great when the phone is at a low percentage, as the percentage increases the charging speed decreases.
Overall charge from 0% should be 1 hour 30 minutes -ish or somewhere in that range.
Test it.
It definitely charges slow, my 8+ included. There's a conversation about it on the Samsung support forum. It's definitely not intended behavior, as it'll still charge slow at low percentages. It never reaches the 2000mA rate that it should.

Based on my testing (I'll verify again tonight with pictures)
Quick charge 2.0/3.0
Screen on - 5v/1A
Screen off 9v/1.67A
USB C cable charging
Screen on 5v/1.5A
Screen off 9v/1.8A
The phones are QC 2.0 which means they're limited to I believe max 18 watts charging rate which would be 9v/2A with the screen off

2.0? Like the s6? Mine charges so much slower than my old s6. Took over 3 hours to charge 50% yesterday, screen off almost the whole time.

Yeah Samsung for some reason did not activate QC 3.0 or even 4.0 on the S8(so stupid but seeing the NOte 7 battery issue, they're probably being cautious)
The S6 only had a 2550mAh battery vs the S8 that has a 3000mAh battery so yeah the S6 is definitely going to charge "faster"
Pick up a USB C multi-meter and see what the charger is outputting to your phone
This is the one I bought (I am not affiliated with them - just showing which one I purchased)

3 hours to 50? Are you using the brick in the box? cable from the box?

Stock brick and cable. The same thing happens with the brick and charger included in the wireless fast charging, and the wireless fast charger itself.

Both are enabled and while charging it says it's fast charging. It even gives a reasonable charge time like 52 minutes, but even the estimate is off by a lot.

How long does your s8 take to charge full from around 5%?

I have the feeling my s8 doesnt really fast recharge even if it's enabled (i'm on 2nd charge now)... how long does it usually take you guys to charge it full when its very low, around 5%? And how long does it say it takes on the notification? Thanks!
About 1h50 or something with normal charge, not fast charge.

Mine definately took longer to charge than that the 2nd time (the first one i was asleep so i dont know) and with fast charge. Does it matter which side you plug in the cable or it's the same? I'm getting worried.
The side of the cable does not matter. I normally charge my phone when it's about 15% and with normal charge it takes around 1h40. Next time I charge it around 5% I will check but I think it's about 1h50 to 2h. My S7 was definitely faster in charging.
Takes about 90 minutes with fast charge
Around an hour and 20-30 minutes, a bit slower when I'm using wireless fast charging.
Did you notice a substantial difference between normal charge and fast charge? Lat time I checked it was about 10 minutes difference until full charge. I expected more, it was much better on the S7.
I think that fast charging got capped by samsung after all the note 7 exploding battery horror stories. And it got capped at 2.45amp fast wired charging and around 1.35 with fast wireless charging since the nougat update on the galaxy s7. when it was around 2.8 fast wired and 1.8 fast wireless charging on MM
Beside the charging rate cap, the fone is much cooler while fast charging now as it used to get crazy hot reaching temps above 42c while now it never gets over 36.smthing.
So while its slower i guess its a much better bet for the battery health and your safety.
Normal wired charging didnt change between MM and nougat and its around 1.7~1.8amp
These are my findings using the s7 and s8 exynos international versions and the statments above are purely my own opinion and experience which could be different for everyone.
I noticed that mine never goes over 1060ma while charging using Ampere. It takes about 1 hour 40 minutes to "fast charge" but it is cooler than any other phone I've ever had while charging.
The sad thing is that it REALLY takes longer if you are using the phone, like barely increasing its %. I even tried changing cables, chargers and places but now I know I'm not alone and this is how it works.
I have an Exynos.

IMO ampere is crap and slow to report, you need an app that can report as fast as cpufloat. As once you turn on the screen the charging rate will default to ~1amp regardless of the charging mode your using and thats when ampere starts to measure.
Use cpu float for info at glance
Or
Use accubattery to even help you distnguish which charging cables your using gives you the best charging rate.
Hope this helps

Back when I had my Galaxy S4 I used "CurrentWidget: Battery" which was really nice but is not working anymore so I installed Ampere.
I just tried both apps you mentioned and both gave me the 1050am right away. I'll try later on since I was at 90% and if I remember thats the point where it starts to throttle down the current.
I like the AccuBattery 80% cycle though, not sure I can really use it since I prefer to go with a full battery for the entire day.
Thank you!
Mine takes around 1hr 30 mins , The other night i turned fast charge off as i was going to leave it charge throughout the night but i actually forgot i had turned it off and had been charging for a few days with fast charge off..... surprisingly i noticed no difference! It still took around the same time to charge haha

You hit it on the nose. They slowed it to avoid the whole exploding battery problems just to play it safe. Also why they didn't cram a bigger battery inside it to keep heat down.
They lost a lot of money because of that. The only thing that really saved them was that some iPhones were blowing up too

Bear in mind that the charging rate will default to 1050ma whenever the screen is turned on no matter what charging mode your using.
To use my method in cpufloat app, open the app n keep it floating on your screen. Turn of the screen for awhile ( lets say 5 seconds) and n turn the screen back on. You will have a split second to read the current before it updates to the 1050ma. ( you can slow the update rate in the app settings btw.
Accubattery will have 2 readings, charging rate when screen on, charging rate with screen off.

Yup, I noticed that, thanks!
Accbattery showed me a maximum of 1156ma obviously it was charging with the screen off. From there my test starts since this charge was done using a multi-usb charger and had something else charging and wasn't using the original cable. We will see
Thanks once again!

What other difference you want?
The charging issues on the Galaxy S8 seem to be widespread. I was hoping the most recent software update would help resolve these issues but it hasn't. Extremely slow charging (71% charged, 3 hrs 17 mins to 100%) and random connectivity (wireless charging paused) with Samsung's OEM wireless charger. What I've found with respect to the wireless issue, if I leave the phone on the charging pad after a few minutes it will eventually engage to a slow charge mode. Direct charging with the Samsung 2.0 Adaptive makes no difference, still a very slow charge. The normal Fast Charge Notification which should appear at the bottom of the display has never appeared and the tab remains grey in the Advanced Battery Settings even when enabled. Prior to purchasing the phone I had read and was advised by a Samsung tech the phone was suited to accept Qualcomm's 4+ Quick Charge. That seems unlikely at this point. Just got off a live chat with Samsung Support, not surprising the tech offered no solutions which I hadn't already experimented with. Booting up in Safe Mode to see if the app(s) were the problem, clearing system cache, app cache, using a variety of adaptives and cables, updating software, checking the C jack for connectivity. The S7 Edge I had previous to the S8+ was a great phone, no problems whatsoever. I honestly feel that Samsung is dragging their feet and haven't yet gotten their hands around these issues. Seriously, do they really want to experience another wide ranging battery concern? I think not. I can get a refund or replace the S8+ (SM-G955FD) but I'm wondering if the problems may be so widespread it could easily be an issue with the replacement phone. From the research I've done these issues are popping up on all models, regardless of the manufactures location.

Android 10, problems with slow wireless charge after update?

Hello. I updated my s10+ to android 10 last night, today i was trying to charge it with my wirless charger (slow charge) and once it hit 99% it got stuck... kept saying 3 minutes to go but after 30 minutes was still at 99%.
So I switched to samsung cable charger (with low charge set as well) and in few minutes it got to 100%. So I'm wondering... anyone else experienced something like this? Did android 10 change anything with charge?
Anyone? Tonight i put it to wireless charge again from 70%... went up to 97, then it gets stuck. Says its charging, but even after 30minutes wont go up. With ampere app i can see it says its charging but its barely gettin any ma in.
When I used cable earlier today id get like 600 ma.
Is there really a problem with android 10 and wireless charge?

There's no problem with it. I have 10 on s10+ beta.
Your phone uses more background process and drains it faster than it charges. Use fast charge wireless for a night. You will see yourself it will go up to 100%. Ice used all my galaxy's on fast wireless charge since the s7? Whoever one introduced it. No issues with battery life.

Yes, tried fast charge wireless last night, and it worked to 100%. But the odd thing is that with android 9 i didnt need to use fast wireless to charge it. Also, even now, without fast charge, it does charge itself until 96/97%... it's after that that it wont go higher anymore. If it was just a question of more battery used with android 10, it shouldnt charge with slow charge even between 50 (say) and 97, right? So why does it charge fine until 96/97%? That's what im wondering.
