Real vs test battery life - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Guides, News

Hello guys,
I own an Exynos S20 for a month now and I'd like your opinion on tests we can see on the web that seems legits.
They all show comparisons with other phones etc, and it seems that the recent ones show great battery life on our Samsung s20s.
In fact they show 7 or 8 + hours of SOT and S20 results almost even iPhone 11 pro results.
As far as I'm concerned, I don't have anything near these results as I never went above 4-4h30 SOT on my S20, even if a optimized my settings, got rid of some bloatware, or even set up routines to save some battery. Plus, I'm stuck at home so 100% of the time on wifi.
Do you think these tests are false ?
Thank you for your answers or advices.
Best regards,
Thomas

Here is my battery consumption on my S20 Exynos Variant. (no gaming and no YouTube - only light usage like Facebook, Instagram, E-Mails, Browser)

All right, thanks. But this is not on a full charge is it ?
You charged the phone on the middle ?
Still, 7h30 SOT estimated would be great for me. ^^
Could you pls share your optimizations/settings ?

No this isnt a full charge of course. I don't use the device such frequently, it's only a calculation from the app "AccuBattery" which is based of my usage statistic since the last 7 days. What I can say is that it needs 5-7 days till the battery life was okay. Also with the last two firmware updates my estimated SOT raised from 6.3h to 7.1hours. (maybe it is a coincidence)
Realistically I would say (without gaming) I will get 6/6.5 hours out of the device if I stay at home. (So the screen brightness isn't as high as outdoors)
My settings:
- FHD 96hz (you can find the app here in the forum)
- GPS off (don't now if it makes any crazy difference)
- Bluetooth, mobile data and wifi on
- energy setting set to optimized and adaptive
- put all apps to deep sleep (except WhatsApp, Gmail, smartwatch app)
-> you can find it in the battery saving section
I think it will not make a big difference if you have your screen constantly on)

I to wonder about the sot some people get....I get +- 4 to 5.5 hours sot on a good day....most days 3.5 hours....I did notice that 4g/lte drains a lot more power then wifi....the bad sot days are the days when I'm at work and only on 4g/lte....AOD etc is on and I use most of the functions the phone has...120hz etc....Why buy a phone and not use the stuff... I can get through a normal day fine, so I'm okay with the battery...The standby drain on my s10 + was bad...during the night 2-4% per hour....the s20+ I get .5% per hour during the night....

Post your battery!

Hello, post your battery. I've posted mine in the attachment.
16Hrs 45Mins
5Hrs 25Mins SOT (50 mins of HD YouTube, good amount of Facebook, Whatsapp and browsing)
Help grow this thread by sharing your battery stats:
1) On battery time

My battery stats
Hey there!
I bought this phone on Monday and I started using it yesterday. Here is a screenshot of my actual battery.
I've used 3G and Wi-Fi, downloaded some apps and used GPS a bit. Now I'm using only 2G connections and the brightness is set to low.
Very happy with it!
Just a request
When you all post battery Screenshots please mention the on screen time all of you get and if possible mention the brightness also
Addition
Mention screen on time...
Mention rom (when available lol)
If possible mention ur personal setup like u greenify apps or not...
First charge.
5h screen on, autobrightness, 1 1/2h gps and some other game testing so pretty much like the old G
Seems very solid, 5h SOT. I might be joining your community soon
On average usage it will last for one day
The battery life is better than what I expected. It has dual sim and a large screen but still manages around a day on battery.
Managed to get slightly over 7 hours before the phone shut off.
GPS: Power saving mode
Screen: Brightness set to indoor conditions (manual / below 10%)
ROM: Default
Battery Saver: Disabled
Battery saving apps: None installed
WiFi and Sync: Always enabled
Screen Time Out: 2 minutes after inactivity
Usage: Mainly Facebook, Chrome, WhatsApp, few YouTube vids and Google Docs. Nothing intensive.
Phone charged from 0-100% in under 2 hours without entering the OS. I used Anker Power IQ 40W 5-port desktop charger and Moto's USB cable. Back of the phone remained cool throughout. Could have squeezed more life out of the battery by setting screen time-out to 30 seconds, but I'm happy with 7 hours. Used to get between 3.30 to 4 hours on my NEXUS 4.
Moto G has one of the most (if not the most) efficient SoC (especially the CPU core). So the biggest improvement to battery life comes from adjusting the screen manually. Don't use auto brightness if possible and keep the brightness low without sacrificing image quality. Mine is set to below 10%.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask :good:

WOW, that's really impressive. Yes, auto brightness can drain the battery soon. I use auto brightness whenever I'm outdoors for a couple of hours and I get 5+ hrs of usage. Very happy with the battery life.

Over someone?
I'm in doubt between G and the new Moto Moto X (2014)
Who has better screen time on 3G / 4G will take my money.
No gaming in this cycle of battery charge
But internet use is there over Wi-Fi.

Very happy with battery life. Very first charge, just received phone in the afternoon and was fully charged by 3:30 or 4. Downloading applications, syncing accounts, installed GTA:SA and played a tiny bit(used a controller through OTG) snapped pics, took some slo no videos and auto brightness. Texting, IM'ing, some YouTube videos, etc and also music, which sounds amazing through the speakers!
Not bad at all
Battery is not bad. I was using Wi-Fi n downloaded applications. Still I got it for 20 hrs n had around 15% left.

Yeah I was kinda amazed. Wasn't expecting 7 hours. Expect the battery to increase even further when Android L is released
Five hours screen time
Pretty good for Android phone
My new Moto G has been amazingly good with respective to Battery backup. :good: When phone is idle... it is alove for almost 1 and a half day... Amazing.. I also had Lumia 520.. It could last for 2 days and still have juice left.. Very impressed..
I find the battery life to be average, I get about 3.5 to 4 hours of screen on time. Which is what most phones get, but the original G could go for 5hours. And by about 7pm, my battery run out.
You could get 5hours screen on time if you stay indoor and connected to WiFi all the time and on 50% screen brightness, but this is not for someone who is moving about, being outdoor and not connected to WiFi during work.
Battery is pathetic...The phone was in deep sleep for 8 hours. Battery consumed while in deep sleep, was 1% per hour
What's wrong? Feels like eclair days...

Screen on time

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Moto G7 Power before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Loving the battery life. I have the XT1955-2 dual sim, I believe its for the Mexican/Latin market. After using it for 5 days and giving it a few full charges, I'm having no problems getting 12 hours of screen on time. Right now I'm at 54% with a screen on time 7 hours and 54 minutes. Yeah the phone has some short comings, I bought for the battery life and it is exceding my expectations. Wonder what the single sim phone will do.
What apps do you use? Do you keep gps or Bluetooth on? Is most usage on wifi or LTE?
Impressive Battery
I have bought Moto G7 Power too, the European Model. Its battery life is impressive really! I keep open 4G at all times and I get about 14 hours of SOT.
I am sorry in advance not trying to insult or anything when it comes to battery life of any smartphones in general
But under heavy usage. How long can this phone last?
I'll be travelling soon so i need the longest battery possible
=============================================
If anyone is kind enough to conduct one test on this device
There is an app called "photorealism benchmark 2018" (very heavy GPU infinite test)
If someone can download this free and let the phone run from 100% > 0% with around 30% brightness on WIFI and see
I doubt it can last more than 5 hours of screen on time running this app

Hey there. Did you use any particular App to save battery life?
And how would you discribe your usage pattern?
Any special apps on daily, heavy usage?
I got around 5 hours SOT right now and fully charged around 24 hours ago with 60% juice left.
I feel like my battery life is a bit weaker than your experience. Or do I overreact ?

What kind of SOT type tho?
Just Youtubing and social media? 5000 mah can last hours / offline watching video via internal player can get this more than 15 hrs of SOT i think with 5000 mah?
What about under heavy usage like running GRAPHIC BENCHMARK continously?
35 hours on a charge
8.5 hrs SOT
Around 6 hrs at 100% brightness
More than happy with this phone. Especially at only $212.00

My battery life experience with moto g7 power, pt.1:
(Can't upload a Screenshot here for unknown reason)
Now: 6% left
Last charged: 2 days ago
Screen on time: 11h 21min
> last charged friday night (it's monday 9 a.m. now.)
> Tasks: watching YouTube videos, gaming, social media, WhatsApp, browsing, some internal tasks with arranging picture folders, encrypt media with an app, downloading from cloud. Shared a hotspot and connected a bt headset.
>Tried to not use screen that often. I think it does a decent job for what Motorola promises.

In my opinion Watching Youtubes / Social Media / WhasApp / Browsing do not drain the battery that much
Only running GPU or ALwAYs 3D GRAPHIC ON counts towards depleting the battery.
IF you can download photorealism 2018 free and using that app to drain your battery from 100% with 40% brightness you will see
Doubt anyphone with 5000 mAh can pass 6 hours SOT mark

Yes GCam is perfectly working, more info here
Closest to dead I've gotten mine is 42%.
Auto brightness, with brighter bias.
12hrs 48mins SOT
4hrs light gaming, 4hrs heavy gaming, Spotify the whole time, Reddit and forums, and 2hrs live TV.
My wallpaper is Sachs Marine Aquarium (photo realistic Aquarium). And yes, I stare at the fish sometimes. Quite relaxing.
No wifi, no Bluetooth. Some downloads, some app updates.
No phone calls. Minimal texting.

Very cool info so far in my opinion SIR for SOT of an smartphone
But, i was hoping you did super heavy usage of SOT
Hey guys i've played pubg from 100% battery to 0% (with high quality settings) + 50% screen brightness Plus example GPS all other features turned on in the background. ... etc
Additionally with multitasking in the backgrounds too.
Heavy usage?
Does this count?
4hrs MarioKart Tour, 2hrs TinyTower, 4hrs TV, 3hrs Reddit, Instagram and other social apps for another 2hrs.
I'm at 38%
80% brightness
GPS always on (testing weather in Kustom)
And about an hour in Kustom editor.
Live wallpaper at 60fps
Sometime soon, I plan on seeing how long this will do vr. That ought to be enough for a decent battery drain test
EDIT
Running this device around 70-80% of it's max speed seems to be the point where the battery starts to drain. What I mean is, pushing this device hard results in almost normal draining (compared to a standard battery size). Light to moderate usage seems to have no effect on the battery life, but larger more demanding tasks that push it clearly drain the battery. I'm trying to explain the battery barely drops until a big game is loaded. Then it drops slowly (but quick compared to light usage). I anticipate getting 8hrs of real gaming (psx emu) and still 8hrs light use.
For those who are rooted using Magisk, can you try the the FDE.AI module for a week or so and see if you are getting better battery life. I'm seeing some noticable improvement.
One last SOT update from me:
5hrs12mins Stardew Valley with max brightness and volume
Bluetooth Controller
1hr internet browsing
1hr social media
'8hrs 13mins Screen Usage Since Last Full Charge'
50% remaining
'11hrs remaining'
Feels safe to assume 12hrs SOT for me...
i want to buy that phone is the battery really good u get always about 5h screen on?
can anyonye upload pics from screen on

Very first 1 day, 6 hours of usage after my initial 100% full charge and I'm down to 10% with 7h 12m screen on time so far. And this during a time where I have setup the phone and played extensively around with every function here and there. So far I find it amazing.
Screen on time has been great so far, especially coming from S9+. I got 2 days of usage with 6.5h SOT and 20% battery left while also off screen downloading around 40GB of Tidal data, so SOT could be even higher. The biggest improvement compared to Sammy seems to be cellular data usage. Every Samsung I had, had crazy battery consumption on either 3G or 4G - stand by and SOT drain was 2-3 times higher compared to Wi-Fi. P30 doesn't seem to care whether on Wi-Fi or data and consumes around the same. Oh, and 20 minutes of Asphalt 9 ate 5% and 20 minutes of Wi-Fi Netflix drained 2%. Both on 50% brightness. So far so good.
Not happy with the battery life so far. Screen on time less than 8hours before I need to charge, brightness <50%, saving mode activated and phone only used for Web browsing and whatsapp. Is that normal?

Amazing battery life on this phone from
7+ hrs of SOT minimum every day without fail. the only phone that finally matched the battery life of my Mate 20 Pro, of which I had two and sold the last remaining one two days ago. fare thee well my loyal friend.
Awesome battery life from this little one.
Android 10 emui 10 is better than the 9.1.
With Google Photos setup to work only when I open the be app, location history and background scanning off everything is better them my last phone OnePlus 6T.
I am amazed whit the stability of Emui, even after update without clearing cache. The visual is far better on Android 10. I am very satisfied coming to Huawei from OnePlus.
anyone move to the P30 from P30 Pro? I am thinking of moving to the P30 from my P30 Pro, but I want to make sure it has the same great battery life.
Just got the phone from a friend. First day use and have found it has amazing battery life. Much much better than the oneplus devices which I previously used. Including the 8 pro.
All settings as standard, both WiFi and data on always. No adjustments to battery settings.
8 hr 30 min SOT 9%
Phone age: Between 1 year-2 years
Usage: Browsing, youtube, messenger, medium gaming

wake up this morning at 6 am, batt at 100%, now at 7 pm, batt at 4%. screen on time is 6 hrs and 17 minutes.
heavy use of gmaps, Spotify, WhatsApp, few phone calls.
aod on, location on, Bluetooth on.
gmaps 20%, Spotify 20% WhatsApp 20%, rest is misc, browsing, news apps, etc,
put most app to sleep..
signal quality is average using 4g auto, no WiFi at all.
today heavy use as well similar like yesterday, screen on time only 5 hrs, battery is at 11%, probably only reach 5.30 hrs sot.., only difference is. yesterday is charged by slow charger whole night long, whereas today begin with fast charging 1 hr. I will continue the experiment tomorrow with slow charging again tonight
Totally weird this much difference between slow and fast charge. Totally waiting for you additional test results. And sot changes much after first week. Let's see.
today starts at 7 am, slow night charging.. now 10 pm battery at 18%, 5.30 hrs sot.. moderate use today, not so heavy, 50% WiFi use.., probably around 6hrs and 30 min sot again if I wait till zero..
so far so good, battery lasts whole day long during normal moderate use, don't need to charge during the day.. device never get warm as well..
will post again next week and update after a week of adjustment if its get better sot..
starts at 6 am today, now time is 11 pm
battery left 16%, screen on time is 6 hrs and 30 minutes..
moderate office use, WiFi about 70%, location on, aod on, a bit of gaming as well, very good indeed..

is it the smaller note 10 exynos? there are few sacrifices u have to make though, I believe spec wise beside exynos and battery life, note 10 is above s10 lite.., and also do use s pen?
is carrying an extra charger or charging at the office /car not possible? I would recommend you to wait and upgrade to the note 11 snapdragon instead
if u don't use s pen and some spec downgrade, then u can make the switch as trade in price is quite good. do it now before price is going down by the day..
I was using note 9 exynos, and I don't use s pen that much..

Exynos version, i dont use the s pen, i deactivated the s pen functions for a better battery life, sync too!
The important things for me are battery life and performance. Previously i had the huawei p30 (no pro) decent battery life and performance, arround a 6 - 6,5hs sot and an average of 1,5days between the charges., always in performance mode.
All day in the office, i can charge before left the office but is very annoying for me, charge twice in a day (in the morning 8am, and in the afternoon 4pm before leave the office) i dont charge overnight.
I'll sacrifice the ip rating, wireless charge, stereo speaker, camera for a better battery life, maybe? Today, huawei is not a option because the newer devices lacks of google services and the paralel intalls methods aren't 100% compatible with the apps like netflx.
I would like the p40 if recover de google services, but for now its a viable option the s10 lite. The reviews of the s20 series are bad in battery life too

yes, forget about Huawei devices for now, s10 lite is actually the best battery life performance device from Samsung right now, beating Huawei p30 even as I know I can reach 7hrs sot with s10 lite..
I use slow charging method for my s10 lite (7-8 hrs slow charge at night) as it improve battery life sot by 1 hour instead of using the 1hr fast charge method..
I don't miss my note 9 exynos, typing with one hand is now possible because of s10 lite weight.. I miss my v30 though.., if only the v30 battery life still good, I probably will still using it till now... it last 3hrs sot before I switch to note 9 exynos..
v60 is coming out so theres that option as well.., I almost got the oneplus 7t before as it has good battery life, however the amoled color and contrast is a bit dull, similar to iPhone 11 pro max display
anyway stay away from exynos if possible.. clearly not worth it, inferior battery life and heat problem as well
starts at 7 am today, now 11pm , battery left 10%, screen on time is 8hrs.., aod on, location on, WiFi 70%, average signal 4g, WhatsApp and Spotify takes around 35%, the rest is etc YouTube gaming, services..., so might last 8.30hrs sot, very good
@dvdwyn Thanks for sharing your SoT and battery life results. Just wanted to let you know, that the community really appreciates you reporting your findings.

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Samsung Galaxy M51 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Getting 17hrs of screen on time minimum on full charge for youtube 3hrs , clash of clans 2hrs and 45-50 mins of calls per day....last 3 days with my usage
Plus Whatsapp of 1 hrs approx per day

SS or it didn't happen
I've had this phone 2 days and so far I've had 6 hours 31 minutes of screen time and I have 58 percent battery left. This is mostly YouTube, Web browsing, an hour of downloading apps from play store and a bit of emulation (ppsspp) am extremely impressed with the battery life on this phone.
Battery lasts more than 2 days at Medium Power Saving mode with moderate apps usage(no gaming but with youtube, magic fluid live wallpaper, whatsapp, browsing) and SOT approx 13+ hours in these two days. At the end of second day battery remains at 30-35%.
Has anybody here compared to the Moto G8 Power? Is the battery life even better?

Exactly how do you think a cheap SD 665 11nm chip with a 5,000mAh battery will do against a higher tier SD 730g 8nm chip with a 7,000mAh battery?
Hmmmmm ?

I did... Exactly how do you think they will compare?
@Devilmonkey27 No need for snark...

So exactly how do you think a phone with half the specs will do?

You're missing the point. My post has nothing to do with that...
I'm simply asking, that if you have anything to add to a thread, please do so in a constructive manner without snark or attitude. It would have been very easy for you to convey your message without being rude or condescending.

To come back on it, I have it since today and so far it's looking like the G8 Power has better or equal batterylife, standby drain is somehow bad on the M51, I checked all apps. Still I'll let the software settle and get through more cycles and check Gsam Battery Monitor in a couple of days again.
I honestly blame Samsung's other apps that aren't used and aren't able to be disabled or uninstalled.
Hi guys. I wanted to let you know my findings and provide some test results of galaxy m51 battery life. Firstly, I will outline what was my priority for that test. I wanted to check how long the phone can last mainly on google maps navigation with additional apps in the background. Also this test is a bit static so to speak but had no chance travelling for so many hours. That said I believe SOT was tested correctly for my planned usage. I guess in a real case scenario, I would need to do some more browsing and perhaps occasional screen switch offs during a break like filling up the fuel or stop to rest on a bicycle.
How I performed my test.
1. I did some initial installations, downloaded my apps and logged in to social apps such as FB, Spotify so they can work in the background, send notifications etc.
2. Once I completed the setup, I charged the very new phone to 100%. AccuBatter reported capacity was 6800mAh designed capacity not 7000mAh and estimated capacity 6700mAh.
3. CPU-Z reported Snapdragon 730 so I regret it is not 730G and honestly I do not know how to check with online stores as the packaging does not help with this. Also, I plan to test POCO F2 PRO 8gb ram/256gb version the same way and see how it goes since I get better hardware, but I like SD card slot on galaxy m51. Very useful when resetting the phone.
4. Set google maps navigation, lunched another app which uses GPS and LTE for maps showing speed cameras, road works or dangers which I use alongside with google maps. I also start shuffle play on Spotify to imitate streaming the music in my car or on the bike.
5. WiFi, LTE, GPS, Bluetooth, sync was enabled, blue light filter enabled.
6. Between 15-20 apps were in the background.
7. I unplugged the device from the mains.
8. Initial 15% discharge was with a WiFi connection with my router. Then switched of my router for overnight, left wifi enabled on Samsung but it had to continue downloading data over LTE such as Spotify music streaming. I also changed google map setting to day light only to avoid night backlight.
9. I went to bed? and in the morning there was still a lot of juice.
10. Around 20% discharge I took about 100 pictures most of them in burst mode to simulate a trip where you simply stop and take some snaps.
11. I stopped the test at 1% discharge and noticed no heating problem. The phone was cool during the test.
The overall SOT measured until 1% discharge was a staggering 17h 50m? Below you will find AccuBattery screenshots. At remaining 15% I had still over 2 h 42 m of use left.
This phone reminded me of good, old days of my Samsung galaxy s3 with a Zerolemon 7000mAh?
Now with my galaxy s7 deteriorating battery (current capacity just over 2300mAh) this is a great thing. For Galaxy s7 I also own a KiwiBird powerbank case of 5400mAh right from the beginning wich did its job when away from the mains, travelling etc.
I guess for a more accurate SOT, I would need to add some phone calls and browsing but even with I deduct 2h, it is still nearly 16 h of use. Like for me excellent. I also do not plan gaming.
On the downside of this phone it seems like my galaxy s7 takes a bit better picture, but it just might be my perception of selfies taken. Back camera is also just ok on a cloudy day. Ok but that is an offtopic.
I got my M51 yesterday and I am not fully sure yet about battery lifetime. I have charged it to 100% and about 8 hours and 2.5 hours secreen time later I am at about 90%.
Coming from my Moto Z Play I am not sure yet if I stay with the galaxy. The Mot Z Play with Incipio OffGrid Wireless Power Pack mod is about the same size and weight. Though provides less capacity (3300mAh phone + 2200mAh power mod) but battery lifetime still was bout 3-4 days usually.
The M51 is also getting considerably warmer during use.
I noticed also the Samsung battery saver with medium settings can reduce the CPU clock to max out at 70% which is handy. Not sure if there is any undervolting, underclocking tools as I think I would be perfectly fine with less performance - actually I was able to reach insane battery life on my old Galaxy P1000 with TricksterMod and custom undervolting back in the days.
I still believe better lifetime with the M51 would be possible bz reducing CPU clock and also with better screen brightness control. I noticed many times already that the M51 screen was too bright for me and having to reduce the slider to "minimum" position or very close to it. Also I noticed that the screen brightness slider is not linear at all. So on the last notch on the left side the screen really starts to dim properly while to the right there isn't much change. Also I like still to use automatic screen brightness adjustments but found the automatic adjustment often moves the brightness too high.
Also a possibility to limit the used screen area (e.g. display black bar on bottom/top) would save energy on the AMOLED screen while still providing more than enough screen space.
EDIT: One-Handed mode sort of provides this feature, but not exactly what I was looking for (like cinema-bars on top and bottom and no prominent "one-handed-mode" title.
I will continue to use the M51 for a couple of charges and decide if I am going to trade it again. The phone itself is performing well, supporting VoLTE WiFi calling but seems to lack carrier aggregation for no apparent reason. I strongly dislike the slippery, fingerprint-attracting, cheap-looking plastic backside of it.
I also hate that everywhere you tap it tries to sign up to a Samsung account. Also replaced the launcher with Nova launcher.
Below is the answer to almost all above useless posts
Battery life tests - GSMArena.com
Why I say useless ?
Simply. SOT will be completely different when you read ebooks compared when you watch movies or browse Internet.
Gsmarena does standarised comparison
I am fan of long life battery phones. I used "king" Lenovo P2 for over 2 years. M51 is better.
I'm at the fourth cycle of charge.. and got 15 hrs so far.. have done a heavy idb debloating
maby it will increase over more charging cycles?
i m getting about 20h sot normal usage
facebook lite, browser , youtube , aliexpress and playing alphalt extreme 30 min
wifi and dark mode on
brightness between 10-40 %
