Hi Guys, I have a D802 International version.
I think, there is a data sending when you connected to the Internet. It is from the Android System, I don't know what data and where it is send to.
I didn't noticed it before rooting and installed Droid Wall.
When I have my phone rooted, I blocked internet access on Android System. The first time connected to the Internet, my phone raised an error message said that there wasn't Internet access, but browsing, WA, Play Store, email, etc were okay,.
So I traced this error and found out that the error was from Android System.
Since there many packages on the Android System, I couldn't determine which one that sending the data.
On my Nexus 7, I also blocked Internet access on Android System and can connected to the internet without any problem.
Can you confirm that your phone have the same behavior? Is there any tools that can use to inspect which package that tried to sent data?
I'm using afwall+, see attachment for my para(noia) profile setup, everything needed works like that. International 802

I am using Droidwall, settings are almost the same with yours, except that I didn't give access to root - Application running as root.
It is works fine with me.
What I am talking about is Android System, this one that trying to sent something to the net, the first time you connected to the net.
In your firewall, did you give access on Android System to the net?
If so, try to block it and see what's happen then.

That's what i meant. As you can see on the screenshot i don't allow internet for the system and everything works fine. No message from system about lack of internet.
Also make sure you disable CarrierIQ from System, General, Backup and Reset, Collect Diagnostics and uncheck Allow Diagnostics.
Cheers!

When I go there the settings force close. I think i restricted that on day one with this phone but i would like to check. Don't find anything frozen in titanium or blocked in xprivacy or afwall that should cause this fc.
Also: install xposed framework and xprivacy to control which data you don't want apps that need internet to send home.

I didn't have problems disabling it, I even froze the system app (rooted). Mine's T-Mobile branded.

That is not what i mean. If i give internet access to root, of course, it won't be any error.
I don't wan't every apps has root access to access the net without knowing by me.
Take a look at attachment. With that setting, i still can browsing, WA, check mail, etc.
I guess, something from LG's stuffs burried in Android System trying to connect to the net, and since it has no access, err msg raised.
Except that root apps can do whatever they want even if you block them... the root thing is an old habit from when i was on 4.3 on my previous phone, under which i had to allow all rooted apps to have access to the net in order to have access at all.
Anyways, i blocked rooted apps now, rebooted and still can access the net without any error messages. Why not install afwall+ and see if it works the way you expect it to work?

Check your firewall log. On nexus 7, I didn't get err msg, but after looking the log, there are numbers of Internet access blocked.
I found it who is trying to sent/receive data from the net. It wasn't LG, it is Google.
On the log, here is one of the blocked ip address : 74.125.235.32.
See if your log recorded same address.
What the hell they are doing, spying on us the minute we connected to the net?

They take your location whenever possible and also collect data for whatever they would like. How do you think they know how many people are running each version of android and things like that

Of course they are, that's why we use firewalls, to at least try to make it a little bit harder for them.

So, I guess, this is a standard proc when you use Android, you must let Google watching over you
Hello Board, I hope I can get some help with this one.. I upgraded from S6 to S7. After the transfer of all of the files, I'm able to get to all of the Google Apps on the phone, but for some reason it will not download the content on them on WiFi. Examples: in Google Play Store I can view the pages, but when I start to download it just hangs and download shows download bar, but nothing downloads. In Google Maps the background maps will not download, Google Play freezes after asking which account I want to use. Youtube loads the pages but will not play videos and there area few more. It is All Google apps only and only Via WiFi. If I disable WiFi and go onto Data, it all works...... I have access to my old S6 and a second S6 and both devices work just fine on the local WiFi with N/G and AC WiFi modes.
This has to be a Marshmallow/Google/S7 issue. only. I have tried all of the standard fixes I could find on Google. Clearing data and caches, resetting app defaults, installing and reinstalling apps, changed every setting and restarted everything multiple times and restarted the device several times as well.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Clear data on Google play services, sign out then sign in again.
Sent from my SM-N920W8 using Tapatalk
OK, Cleared out Google Play Services data and cache, closed all apps, signed out and in, retried Google Play and same issue. Did the same and then rebooted cleared again just to be sure and retried and same issue.
Can someone check on their S7 to see if there is a Download Manager App?
SOLVED: Marshmallow is having issue routing on the phone when DHCP issues an IPv4 and IPv6 address at the same time. Disabling IPv6 on the Router removes the IPv6 and routing issue. Because Google uses mainly IPv6 address internally, the apps on Marshmellow tries to communicate from the app via IPv6, at which the local WiFI router had no way to route it.
Hope this helps others.
Been using this for a while with older fires but just got a 10 HD with 5.3.1. Was poking around here seeing if a rooting method already exists and noticed a lot of people stuck on 5.3.1, another update looming and everyone saying you can't block updates without root. Actually it's pretty easy.
Head on over to opendns
Sign up for a Home Free account (completely free)
Login and go to the dashboard and click the "Settings" tab
There will be an area to "add a network" or something similar
Type your WAN ip address here ( whatsmyip.com can help you find that)
Click "Add this network" or whatever it says on the button
Your address will be added to the network list
Click on the drop down menu next to "Settings for:" and select the network you just added
Using the “Manage individual domains” area at the bottom of the page, add the following four domains set to “Always block”:
amzdigital-a.akamaihd.net
amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite.net
softwareupdates.amazon.com
updates.amazon.com
Now, to use this service, you have to change the DNA settings in your router at home. This step will vary from brand to brand so Google it.
The two DNS IP addresses you need should be listed at the bottom of your OpenDNS dashboard page. Currently, they are 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
But they might have changed by the time you follow this. Simply add those DNS server names to your router, apply the changes and then check for a system update on your fire. It should say "Update check failed. " Voila!
.!!!!THINGS TO REMEMBER!!!!.
When using OpenDNS, you need to ensure you update the service if your home IP changes. They have utilities you can install on your PC to do this automatically. If your home IP changes and you don’t update OpenDNS, your Fire will be able to access updates.
If you take your Fire with you somewhere and connect to another network, your file will have access to updates.
There may be an app that lets you set DNS servers on the Fire itself or block domains, but since mine stays home, I've never looked into it.
Remember, not updating is half the battle.!
you can change the DNS in the device vs the router for those that want to do it that way (do for each access point)
https://support.opendns.com/hc/en-u...ndroid-Configuration-instructions-for-OpenDNS
If my Kindle says "No updates found" did I do it properly? I changed settings on my android, not the router itself, since I don't have access to the router's settings
Note: This method will no longer work on devices with version 5.3.3.0. Amazon will let you input the information, but won't allow you to save it.
You can use something like the NetGuard app below to block the necessary Amazon OTA update services whilst on WiFi, I briefly checked it out and it seemed to work when checking for updates.

Since there is no other option to connect to the internet other than WiFi, how else would updates get applied? That might be a dumb question.
EDIT: I use NoRoot Data Firewall. I pretty much have everything related or possibly related to Amazon and/or their OTA updates, blocked. I do see you need to allow Download Manager access to the internet to do any updates in Google Play.
NetGuard looks really awesome. I like I can choose system apps. I need to look at it more to understand the rules, but I am not liking the fact you have to pay to view the logs. Also I maybe missing it, but I didn't see where you can add individual IPs or block domains.
Thanks , it's still working on 5.3.3
Thank you theabsinthehare,
This work like a charm on my brand new (cheap) Amazon Fire HD 8 (7th generation - 2017) with Fire OS 5.3.3.0.
FYI: here are my steps:
follow instructions above from first post,
with my Internet provider , I am unable to change my router's DNS settings, So I connect the tablet to the wifi. I then can see that an update has been downloaded and is ready to be installed.
I capture the IP config manually (IP address , gateway)
I Factory Reset the tablet (brand new), before the update to be installed
I reconnect on the wifi, but this time I go to advanced settings to change DHCP to static, to provide all details manually and change the DNS settings.
Check in Updates that the tablet is unable to download any updates
Perfect,
Thanks

I just block all Amazon apps from the internet. I then watch the IPs that try to connect and block them manually. I also use the host name blocker in NetGuard and the filters. Yes I paid for licenses. It's well worth it.
So with dynamic ip, I allways have to reconfigure the dns once it changed?

amzdigitaldownloads.edgesuite.net
softwareupdates.amazon.com
updates.amazon.com
anything else i should block too?

Look for DeviceSoftwareOTA.apk as well.
I used No Root Firewall to allow everything except Software OTA, Forced OTA, and Special Offers (not needed to block updates, but I hate lock screen ads). The funky DNS workarounds might work, until I bring my Fire to literally any other wifi network where it can check for updates.
Add System updates as well!

After unboxing, before first connection to the internet, I adb-sideloaded the Netguard apk (from their official github page). Then i enabled blocking system apps, and searched for the keyword OTA. Then I found and blocked:
DeviceSoftwareOTA
Forced OTA
System Updates (<< this is then automatically selected along with DeviceSoftwareOTA, maybe one is an alias for the other)
I then connected to wifi, and checked for new updates. Result: check failed, so I assume all is well.

Yeah, I blocked the same and few more. Altogether 6. I may unblock rest and leave only those you have listed.
(www...........'s) server DNS address could not be found.
I get this error trying to access some websites e.g. gumtree.com.au or if i google something and the first few links are paid ads then i get the same error if i click on them.
I have tried DNS changer and set to 8.8.4.4 and 8.8.8.8 respectively and issue persists.
This will happen with any browser i have tried. And the gumtree app doesn't work either.
Any idea whats goin on?
Finally someone else! I can't either, only on my s8 and only gumtree. Any help?
Are you guys still having this issue? It's driving me crazy that I can't access that Gumtree at all even via Chrome
Anyone got a solution yet? As of today i am finding this issue plus clicking on anything from Google shopping ads

Yeah, and no fix in sight... Really weird
I'm using aldi mobile in Australia. You guys?
From what I read from when you encounter this on your computer, it's a problem with your dns settings. For mobile, if you have setup the apn and port details correctly then it's a problem with the provider (in my case aldi) in that their internet services server does not recognise gumtree's addresses as being valid.
Which is really dumb, cos why would Aldi block or all of a sudden remove Gumtree as a valid source.
I figured out what was blocking gumtree and google ads.
I installed an ad blocker called Adhell.
Disabled it, opened gumtree to allow it to setup, then reactivated Adhell.
Gumtree remain active and working now with Adhell on.

Anybody did this? Does it work?
Respected Experts,
I'm a Noob . On my ZENFONE MAX PRO M1 4 GB, apps like Amazon Shopping, Amazon Prime Music, Twitter, PhonePe don't open on WiFi but works perfectly on Mobile data network ( Jio) or if I use a VPN.
On WiFi the app opens and just keeps loading forever. The same apps open and work perfectly on other mobile devices in my house.
I searched the forum and tried a suggested solution - changing the channel on my WiFi router to 5,6,7,8,9,10,11. This too didn't work. ASUS support forum still has no resolution. My modem is BINATONE 2.4Ghz DT920W Airtel Broadband.
Without MODing/Flashing Custom ROM, is there any solution you can suggest please( the Asus support- wipe partition cache/factory rest already tried).
Please Please HELP.
I am not sure if it is somehow related to my problem before, but what is your default sms app? I kind of solved it by going back to the stock Android Messages app.

I have the same issue (only noticed it with facebook lite app). Thought it must be problem with the app, but it worked with vpn and mobile data as well. App works for a few mins after opening in wifi and the then i have the same problem as yours.
Also i dont think its problem with your modem/router, as i have checked with other wifi networks too and facing the same problem. May be ASUS can do something about it.

No Sir. Bandwidth is 2.4Hhz bgn. Not limited by IP. Auto channel. I tried even changing channels 5 -11 .
Same issue. Youtube and facebook dont work. Keep on logging in. Doesnt go further.
Youtube started when i uninstalled update of you tube. Again doesnt work when app updated. So kept it at default status and playstore setting to do not undate auto.
Wonder when a solution will be sent by Asus.
try this recipe
go to phone settings > network & internet > wifi > click on wifi name >network info > now over there check if your DNS and ipv6 has multiple entries listed, for example - f3:a1:d6:g9 along with 8.8.8.8 in dns and 2 or 3 different ipv6 values under ipv6 section ** In short see if the dns has an ipv6 address listed along with ipv4 .
IF YES , THAT IPV6 IS THE PROBLEM
HERE IS THE FIX- go to your router page on the web browser > 192.168.x.x (x.x value varies with diff. ruoters, so check yours), generally for most , its 192.168.1.1 > now log in > find LAN (NOT wlan) > disable RA switch ** > disable DHCP V6** and not V4
** in short disable ipv6 , present in any form in router LAN settings
** since firmware varies, help yourself to find those settings
** no need to tweak WLAN or channels, well best one would be 1 ,6 or 11.
but do any ****. you wont pass @72mbps barrier, unless over usb reverse tethering that gives 150 mbps ( who imbecile uses this anyway)
good luck, hope all your apps have internet access now.
let me know if this helps.
** STILL DOESN'T WORK- ? > go to wifi > wifi preferences > advanced > install certificates > install trusted credential certificate or signature for your router on your device.( ** find them on internet from your device (router)manufacturer page** i wont advise that though) ** but in most cases the 1st solution will fix the ****
** this issue has nothing to do with default sms app or installing custom rom likewise is any solution for this particular problem, bare virgin rom's are good enough with little tweaking, though android is for toddlers, what ever rom you use...lol, they just offer us fancy candy's and make us lullaby's. anyway , that's my take. gracias
I was also experiencing same issue even I have tried disabling all above setting from router but not working!
Update to build 331. Problem fixed in that update.
