Sup, i'm using this phone for 4 years! So, im curious about your camera and battery life? Are you using auto mode, if not can you share some wisdom about manual settings and etc? How is your battery life, are you using any "hacks" or something? I'm using CustomiZed Sony 5.1.1 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z/development/rom-official-sony-lollipop-5-1-1-t3196237), so its basically a stock version... So if there is anyone with stock and daily using this phone, can you share camera and battery? Thanks!
My wife is still using this phone daily. Stock version. Camera is not great because it's 4 years old. She used to get about 3 hours of screen on time every day. She uses essentially messenger, WhatsApp, and SMS (a lot). She still likes the phone and don't want to change it by now.

i would recommend to flash clean stock, bcs that battery life is really bad. Mine can last for about half day with not that much usage...
I am using Resurrection Remix v5.8 battery life is amazing. Not using camera though. Been using Xperia Z since its released.
I've had mine since 2013 and only switched to the Z5 last year after the battery died. I've recently ordered a new battery and having it put in this week just because I want a backup (hopefully a new battery fixes it anyway - it's been used as a permanently charged up alarm clock since it won't hold a charge).
Still using since 2015.Especially need to say durability is perfect <3 i've done great things with it. Still i don't have get any issue. I'm using this for my better photo quality https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony-themes-apps/mod-xperia-camera-unlocked-t3071161
It's still my daily driver. I just replaced the screen. Battery is poor camera has a lot of bad pixels but i use it only for taking pictures of books/notebooks so I don't care. Im running PureX Z v3 from about a year and a half and it's going well. I have plans to unlock bootloader and try lineage but, don't know when.
I've just replaced the battery this morning and reset the phone. In the process, I have lost the waterproofing as the glue is a little loose in one corner. An easy fix I guess, the gasket and glue is only a few bucks off eBay, and its not that hard to take off the back now that it is loose. Heat is still an issue but I will let it settle and observe.
I don't intend to take it with me to the shower or pool though, and it will now live the remainder of its life in a case as my car nav and Play Music client.
i use it daily , having it with me since 2013 (Did root n all this year) Currently on RR Latest 5.8.2.
i have put kernel auditor set max freq to 1.7k and min to 0.3k
overall it get me thru my day
heat is less compare to other rom or previous version
battery i get screen on time of 220-250 mins depend on use but 3.5 hrs is minimum i get...
camera i have minor scratch so rear camera ok but front good. use Google Camera in this rom.
3 years now, on lineage 14.1 unofficial, ditch stock and it's alright, very smooth still. Still upgrading to the Snapdragon 835 though ?
I have sony xperia z and samsung galaxy s7. Still prefer to use xperia z for my daily usage. S7 have better photo but xperia z is for everything else. S7 is like English people love to say "not my cup of tea".
Xperia z is still on stock kernel. Unable to unlock bootloader.
Best regards
I am still using it, it is still running really great. Running on "Resurrection Remix N for Xperia Z". But my old Sony Xperia S still makes better photos, with alot less noise!
Using this phone since 4 years now! I like the little things about this phone, like the small apps it's literally a life saver!
Battery life is poor.. i have to charge it two times a day.
I have over 100 apps installed and it still holds up pretty well during peak performance periods, although some apps like snapchat do lag, not many system lags tho.
Also it's literally impossible to play demanding games on it.
Camera was decent... Until when, one day i unlocked the bootloader and the drm's got deleted, it's a patato cam now.
Although i noticed the Instagram stories camera app takes slightly better pictures than stock camera app.
The display is the best part of this phone, i put it up against the iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy A5 and Xperia Z's display comes out better than both with accurate colors (With Bravia engine disabled).
I am on stock rom with bootloader unlocked. I have a couple of xposed module's that elevate the experience to a whole new level like the Android N-ify, ad blocker, custom status and nav bars, etc
I must say after rooting, I've done a lot of experiments that just make my phone stand out amongst other phones!
I am planning on buying a new phone this year (Galaxy Note 8 or LG V30) but I'll definitely miss this wonderful phone!
My Z is my daily since March 2014.
Replaced Stock once, then went to CM13. Yesterday I had installed LineageOS 14.1-UNOFFICIAL.
My battery is like the first day right now, the new LineageOS made my old phone more recent than my friends XZ
I just got one. Love the phone so much I decided to use it as my daily and put away my M8 !! Not as good quality as the M8 but I love the feel of the phone.
Only problem is I have a locked bootloader and it would appear that all I can put on it is lollipop. Anyone know of at least a marshmellow rom I could install on a locked bootloader ?
My Z was taken out of a cupboard about a month ago having sat idle for most of its life as I was given a company phone (first a Galaxy S4 and then a Note 4). The phone was unlocked and rooted soon after I first got it, but I 'refreshed' it a few weeks back with ExistenZ Ultimate 3.5 (I managed to download the older copy without spotting the more recent ones - my bad!) and it was working fine, with good battery life, but I then noticed I could not get a VPN connection working and this seemed to be a known problem with some 4.x stock ROMs, so yesterday I reflashed with CustomiZed 5.1.1 and now the VPN functionality works! I did somehow manage to kill wifi with one tweak and I had to factory reset the phone this morning and start over (I have a separate post on that), but things are now up and running again. With the older ROM, audio used to stutter too, but not with the new one.
The Z is an 'OK' phone with a good screen, but I never really liked the waterproof port covers, nor the location of the power button (causes issues in car cradles) and the speaker (you can cover it with your hand too easily), but right now it is working fine and I am impressed that the battery is still pretty healthy after several years sitting discharged. It'll do until I decide what make/model to get next.
I'm almost reaching 4th year using this phone. Bought at around June 2013, and this is my primary phone for it's entire lifetime. Still loving this phone.
Maybe I'll change to X Performance someday
Battery is still so good, still got 2100mAh (original 2370mAh) - tested using my LiPo charger, directly to the battery cell terminal.
I do this "insane" battery testing because I want to know about the sony battery quality over 4 years, and want to test if it's the battery, software, or network problem that draining my battery.
Also, battery replacement are quite easy to obtain here...
i used to use it until yesterday...
i bricked it trying to downgrade it for the second time (i did it right the first time a year ago and i got it right...).
did it happen to anybody and would you have any idea to where i should try to find informations to reinstall my xperia z C6603 and "unbrick" it?
Thanks
Im
I'm a Chinese. I was considering change my daily phone from XZ until I found RR rom. its the best rom I have ever used, even better than CM mod. Now XZ will be being my daily phone and I like it more than before.
I am using it for a week now as backup for the time the battery of my Z5 is replaced. Using the unofficial Lineage OS 14.1. Very stable Rom.
Is there any way to install the camera from stock ROMs on Lineage os ROMs?
No.
almost moved back to stock OS because of this little piece of ****. Unfortunately other cameras reliable manage to screw the drivers (when changing focus too fast) and force to reboot not only with lineage but also omnirom on different Samsung devices.
Got recommended "open camera" which is quite nice.
(btw. answering to this older thread because of the "no" is not worth google top link)

Try the ported Google Camera. Some say it is better than TW Camera.
I hope you were not talking to me when you said "this little piece of ****".
If you did: Well, I don't care tbh. Wish you the best.
This exact question is being asked since 2008. Since 2008 it's always been the same answer. After 10 years you don't bother with explanations.

Of course not! Just talking about Software crashing the phone. First I thought it is "Cameringo" only but it isn't. All the cameras do. So I guess there is a bug in the framework since it works fine with stock-os. (I dit NOT try stock-os with custom kernel).
Nevertheless Open-Camera does fine and when keeping care about focusing to quick it works quite nice.
I liked the panorama-feature of the Samsung-Camera. But there are other panorama-cams and Open-Camera has really nice features. Will get used to it quick.
btw. having same problem with an official Lineage 14.1 running on a Samsung tablet as well as an unofficial ROM Resurection-Remix Nougat for my old GT-N7000

Ok. Again. Try the Google Camera Port. There are numerous specific versions for specific devices.
The port for the Exynos S7 Flat/Edge running LineageOS seems to take photos on par with the stock Samsung Camera app.
So I picked up a 6P again after I got rid of my original a couple years ago. It arrived yesterday and I got it all setup, but then it started having issues that night. So I did a factory reset. I should mention that the very first thing I did when I got it was root it and install elementalx. Didn't bother with a ROM since Pure Nexus hasn't been supported for awhile (which is what I installed on my old 6P) and I was already running Oreo.
Today was going great until about an hour ago. I unplugged it from charging and the same symptoms as last night happened. When this happens I have to hold the power button until the device reboots.
What happens is that severe lag happens. The screen turns on after a few seconds when I use the fingerprint scanner or power button, but it's very slow and glitchy. Like it'll show half the notification bar and below that there will be a 2 inch long by 1 inch long rectangle in the upper left corner that shows the bottom of my wallpaper. The rest of the screen will show my wallpaper but it'll be glitched, where like the bottom is actually a section of the top. And trying to pull down the notification shade is just impossible. It glitches big time but after lagging of course. I really wish I had pictures to better explain. If it happens again I'll be sure to take some.
From what I've said though, does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
I have a few days where I can still return the device, but I really would like to keep it since it's in mint condition. Battery life is great still and there doesn't seem to be any performance issues when it's working properly. I really don't want to keep doing resets, which if I'd have to then I don't see any point in keeping it since it basically won't be usable.
Edit: 9:37pm
Just had it happen again so I took some pictures. It got to the point the screen wouldn't come on at all, so I had to hold the power button again to reboot. But I found out it still registers the fingerprint to unlock (I hear the sound) and hitting the power button twice still launches the camera (the phone vibrates). When this first started happening this time, after waiting for a little bit with the screen on, I got the popup that the System UI wasn't responding.
Just wanted to update that I flashed the stock ota from Google's site for the October 2018 update. Since doing so the phone has been working fine *knocks on wood*. So right now I'm thinking there was an issue with rooting, elementalx, or magisk. I'll make a backup and do those things one at a time and see when/if my issues return.
Just another update for those who stumble across this topic from Google or whatever.
Things were working great for a few days so I decided to go ahead and root but not install elementalx or anything. Did so last night and upon waking up this morning the phone was having the lag issue again. So it seems rooting is causing my problem. I used magisk, so I'm going to try SuperSU and see if that causes my problem as well.
Switching from magisk to SuperSU did not solve my problem. The phone started freezing up and lagging bad again, requiring me to hold the power button and reboot. So I guess I'll just unroot again and leave it that way.
Unless someone seeing this has any other ideas.
I dont recommend oreo. Im having a lot of issues like the worst of all not being able to install TWRP, lag, screen stutters and excessive battery usage
I love Oreo. Have zero problems with it, my problems are this specific phone. Don't root it and it works flawlessly. Oreo runs better for me than any previous version of Android ever, especially on older lower spec devices. There is zero reason something as powerful as the 6P can't handle it.
TWRP installed without issue, never had an issue with it and Oreo shouldn't affect it anyways. I've got the phone running kind of stock. I installed TWRP and ElementalX and left it at that. Using other apps and adb commands I was able to install a bunch of "Pixel only" stuff and get what I wanted without root. So I'm happy.
The thing's just a side project next to my Note 9 anyways. So long as the hardware issues stay at bay that render the 6P worthless, I'll stay happy.
Sounds like to me you need to do a full re-flash from the stock files on Google's Nexus site and start fresh. Or yours is starting to show signs of the hardware defects.
Either way, this topic is moot to me now I guess. Mainly just left it here in case others find it through Google searches. Good luck!
Whenever I do a major android version upgrade I wipe internal storage. I found that if I didn't do this would get all kinds of little issues. Internal storage carries over files from one android version to the next.
My 6P is doing very similar as yours is. Extreme lagging, basically totally freezing and sometimes half the screen is visible just like on your pictures. I haven't find a solution to it, but you are saying not rooting it fixed it for you? Seems far-fetched but I guess I have no other option. I have been using Lineage OS.
Yeah, removing root instantly fixed the issues for me. I made sure to clear cache and everything like that from recovery too. I'm still unlocked and using TWRP with Elementalx, setup however I like. I just can't root. Soon as I do I can actually feel a little slowdown in using the phone, and then after a day or so the horrible lag with freezing and stuff starts.
Not sure about using a custom ROM since like I said I didn't try it on this phone. My original 6P didn't have any of these issues and I could root, ROM, and modify my heart out.
So to recap, currently and since my last actual update here basically, I've been unlocked, using elementalx and TWRP, but running stock October 2018 Oreo ROM and all that. I used adb commands to get Greenify setup as close to root settings as possible, and to install some Pixel stuff to get night light and whatnot. Got immersive mode by using systemuituner app. And a couple other things to get it as close to how my original 6P was on Pure Nexus.
Hope this helps. I'll be glad to provide anything else I can.
Oreo is crap on the nexus 6p. Seems.like google is slowing it down. Not only on the operating sysyem but also on its latest apps. The latest version of maps is too laggy but the one that comes with nougat is smooth. Thats why i went back to nougat is lile heaven and hell. Shame on goole being thay oreo runs very good on the 5x but not the 6p

Take your conspiracy theories elsewhere. Oreo runs smooth as butter on perfectly (or even in my case, not perfectly since it won't root) fine 6P's. Everything works as it should and I have zero issues and zero lag. All you're doing is cluttering up my topic on something that has absolutely nothing to do with Oreo. This topic is about the issues I'm having after rooting, nothing else. If you don't like Oreo, fine. If you think a device that's several years old at this point isn't running the newest OS as smooth as it ran older ones, that's fine too. Especially since Google has at this point completely disowned the Nexus nameplate. Just don't come into someone else's topic and run your mouth. I told you before I had no issues with Oreo and that it sounds like your device is showing odd behavior, if you didn't like that... well that's fine too. Why subscribe to this topic and keep coming back if it has nothing to do with you. Go away or contribute helpful info to the issue at hand here; rooting complications not Oreo.
Although at this point I'm not having any issues. My 6P has been running buttery smooth since I removed root on what, October 18th... that's about two weeks ago. And this includes installing and tweaking stuff on it that it's supposedly too obsolete to run and only Pixel devices can handle. It goes toe to toe with my Note 9 in daily activities, all while running Oreo.

It wasnt for you but in general, there are more users complaining about it. I tested oreo without rooting and it lags as hell. You can even check comparison videos too... this topic is about having lag issues so I gave you an answer, go back to nougat.

I told you the first time you mentioned that "solution" , Nougat isn't an option for me and shouldn't be because I'm pretty sure I made it clear Oreo wasn't the problem. I even made it clear I basically solved my issue before your first foray into this thread.
I made it clear again in my last post.
I really don't care if there are comparison videos, I have absolutely zero lag if I'm unrooted. That is what this topic is about, lag caused by root. Those who actually spend the time to read more than the topic title can understand that. I've been working with electronics for a long long time, I know how to diagnose everything and I think I made that pretty clear by providing updates as I did things. If not for the fact the thing is all setup and running great, I'd wager I could go back to Nougat and still have root lag issues. The 6P and the 5X for that matter, are ticking time bombs. They both have hardware defects that basically turn them into fancy paperweights. Those defects could be causing my issues, your issues, and edda's issues. No real way to tell that until the bootloops or early shutdowns start. I'm of course hoping this late in the game that maybe those of us with still functioning units don't have those issues, but my gut tells me it's always a "time will tell" issue.

If that was a hardware issue Id be having it with other versions of android but no, only oreo. And everything points out that oreo is the issue. Not only me but all the users posting videos and on forums

I had problems similar to this and found out it was the immersive mode causing it, activating it with any app caused problems. If you download terminal emulator and use some commands that can be found elsewhere in the Nexus 6p part of the forum it works fine. Hope this helps. Currently on Resurrection remix with magisk installed. Running smooth as butter. Just waiting for pie to be more stable now

Thanks but I wasn't even messing with immersive mode at the time. Or are you saying just having it present because I made uituner visible in settings that it might have been causing it?
My issue very much seems to be straight up linked to rooting. If I used magisk or SuperSU (really the only two I'm willing to trust) I'd notice the phone felt sluggish soon as it would reboot after rooting with them. It wasn't a huge slowdown though so I thought nothing of it, until the horrible lag/freezing issues started usually within the day. Remove root, and everything went back to normal.
I've since been using immersive mode without any issue, but of course I gave up on root.
And yeah, I hear ya on Pie. Soon as it becomes stable enough I'll be testing it out. I had 8.1 running on my Note 4, just sold it about a month ago, and it was running great. Only minor issues that were still being worked on. Being a Nexus though I have high hopes this'll be a bit easier to port to.

Hey! Since this whole pandemic I've had way more time on my hands and managed to swap the battery out of my old 6P. I've had an iPhone for the past 4 years and been out of the loop, anyone care to assist on what my next steps should be? I see things have changed. I have an unlocked bootloader, not yet rooted 6P that was rocking CM I believe before it gave out, thanks for any help!
Similar situation
Finished off my 6p's screen at the end of last year and a friend gave me his iphone 6s. Before that I'd always thought the iphone shade was just haters being haters, but damn was I wrong. They do EVERYTHING in the UI wrong. Like they eschew anything out there that is common so they can keep being "innovators", but by doing so they are just refusing to accept the things that make sense and therefore get used. So now I hate iphones and can't get people to listen long enough to all the reasons. Maybe it's time for an infographic.
Anyway, I love this 6p, it's always been badass. Prolly gonna replace it with a 4a if they ever come out, but til then I'm just glad to have a smartphone again.
I put [ROM][UNOFFICIAL] LineageOS 17.1 for Nexus 6P (angler) on there and it's going alright so far. There is a bit of stutter and the new 3600mAh battery drained faster than I'd hope, but it's day 1 and I saw a mention of rom's getting smoother after some time??? So I'm gonna give it another couple days then load AOSP since that's what I usually run and might have better performance.
If you go for lineage and decide to add Magisk, try booting into the rom and finishing setup before loading magisk. I seemed to kill my vendor partition somehow and it might have been due to flashing rom->gapps->magisk all in one. I don't know **** though, just saw a comment that matched my experience.
Exactly the ROM I was looking at and I will take precaution, thanks. Seems while trying to install TWRP, and going thru the process I am stuck on the Android animation staying at colors looping. I'll have to dig around for a fix before I can download some ROMS and test this new battery.
Hello, I've been on the fence for a very long time with getting a OnePlus device. I was finally ALMOST ready to buy the 8 pro but the curved screen kept me away. I've always stuck with the pixel and have had no problems with them besides the terrible screen restate. I really wanted to buy the 8T pro until I saw what they did to the UI in os 11. I really don't care for Samsung at all. Will OnePlus still be the ultimate stock Android ? Is the core OnePlus community happy with os 11 UI overhaul at all?
If I had known coming from a Pixel 2xl, I would have waited. Not happy with it at all.
Hardware is nice for sure, but camera software is subpar imo and poor 5ghz wifi has me puzzled still.
That said I would get a OnePlus over anything else... Maybe just not a good pixel phone.

So how do you feel about the new UI ? It's so close to samsung now ?
Not concerned until I have the official stock ota on my 8pro to do hands-on!
Don't be worried about the UI. I'd people complain they'll change it, some respect the same from Samsung.
Plus with the development in XDA and the like you can rest assured that other ROMs will be available.
Bare in mind this move from OnePlus is to steal Samsung customers, they've already done that Vs the ultra, I'm one of them.
Thank God I didn't buy the ultra (ordered but it didn't come, Exynos is a turd)
Paranoid Android, carbon ROM, lineage, several Magisk ROMs,, there's even miui and Nubia lol,, don't worry about the new 11, plus things can still change, I'm sure anyone helping with the alpha and beta versions are reporting that.
I'm remaining optimistic about 11, might be alone in that but what else can I do?
At this point in time and since it's launch, there is no better phone than the 8 pro, installed a GCam app today and that's pretty much sorted the camera for me, wasn't bad to begin with
Never cared for Samsungs One UI, preferred Cyanogen/LinageOS any day on any Samsung (as long as it was a device where the correct RIL was anailavle, for obvious reasons). On all Samsungs, and OnePluses I've had I've pretty much always used Nova Launcher (as I would on any Pixel too). So, the only place where I actually notice any OEM UI:s is on the settings page... And ind the case of OP8 A11 (as I'm currently using as daily driver), I actually kind of like it. It's smooth, easy. Especially in dark mode (I always use dark mode). I'm all for it. I like the fact that OP does this instead och forcing a bunch of apps on us (Samsung-style) and weird framework changes. This is no reason to "not get a OP device" if you ask me.
