Dear XDA
Need some urgent help. I tried to do an factory reset of my phone and since then it doesnt want to turn on.
Oneplus 5 stock, locked bootloader
The phone turns on, shows the oneplus sign and then a black screen with a green LED light.
Things I have tried
1) Sideloading the latest software from OPO website (1.7gb) file
2) Multiple versions of the MSM Download tool
3) wiping cache and system date
I am stuck as to what to do now? Any ideas? Does the green LED have any significance.

Are you able to boot to recovery? If so, do that and do a format data and then reboot.
Yes I am able to boot to recovery. While in there I have tried, wipe data, wipe cache, wipe system data
I have then tried to boot. And then tried to reinstall the data via msmdownload and via adb but still not boot. Just a black screen with a green light.

Not WIPE, but FORMAT DATA, where you have to type YES to format. You need to Format to come out of this. You will lose your internal data..

Would using the MSM tool not overide this and formate everything anyway.?
So in my recovery after I select english I have these options:
Install from Internal storage
Install from ADB
Wipe Data and Cache->Reset System Settings, Wipe Cache, Erase everything
Advanced ->Reboot to fastboot, Reboot to recovery
There is no option to format?

i m not expert but i would try the third option.
if nothing happens,reboot to fastboot,unlock bootloader,flash TWRP.
reboot in TWRP,format data(typing yes)connect OTG,flash latest stock firmware.
IF you want your bootloader stay locked, try the OnePlus unbrick tool
So now I can boot into h20 os and I flashed recovery but kept getting error 7
I then tried to flash the zip via stock recovery but this did not work either. Still same problem. Black screen with green led
When i use the MSM tool to install h2o it is very hit or miss re when it works
Could this now be a hardware issue?

If EDL flash does not work it can be an hardware issue
I am starting to think it's a hardware issue. Even once I have booted I to H20 it only works on that occasion. Cannot get it boot if I restart the phone.
I managed to download twrp and install it and install a pre-treble version of o2 OS but again same issue it is hit or miss. And on restart it stops working

Hi people
I tried to installed a theme in Clockwork recovery ("install from SD") which it said was sucsessful, then rebooted, but then it got stuck on the boot screen (the colourful X) AND the led light was on a dark blue colour . After a while I left it as that and I eventually fastbooted it into Clorkworks and wiped the data and rebooted again, but still stuck on the boot screen but the led isnt on any more.
ROM: AOKP
OS: 4.2.2

Try dirty flashing the rom. If that doesnt work do a full wipe and reflash.
This is why you should make nandroids.

what do you mean by full wipe and reflash? I done a data wipe(incl dalvik cache) in recovery already, that didnt help

I have made nandroid backups but they all saved to my pc and not on the nexus, without ADB mode I cant restore the nandroids that are saved to my pc's hard drive

Dirt flash means to only wipe dalvik cache and cache, then flash the rom.
If you have nandroids then you can push them back to your phone. ADB works in recovery mode, so go into there and run:
Code:
adb push \path\to\nandroid /path/to/where/recovery/stores/nandroids
you always want to keep the latest nandroid in your phones storage, a copy of your latest rom and gapps, and a copy of the kernel that you are using. if not, you are just askung for issues. now, wipe data(factory reset), then flash your rom/gapps/kernel, or push your nandroid to your phone via adb.
Hi,
I have G935F, installed TWRP 3.0.0.0 and rooted, WITHOUT wiping. System boots correctly, but I cannot do factory reset or wipe with TWRP, because I got some messages like "Cannot mount Data" and "Failed crypto loader". I understand that it has to do with encryption. Can someone please enlight me, and give me tips about the issue?
Thank you

You have to download dm-verity and force encryption disabler from here , put it to SD card, reboot into TWRP, FORMAT DATA (not wipe) and flash that file (dm-verity and force encryption disabler). All your data will be erased.
No way to unencrypt without loosing you data for the moment(
"All your data will be erased" means that after boot I'll find a clean system installation (as factory reset)?
I hope not to be posing stupid questions, I'm completely new to this world
Thank you very much
Yes just as a factory reset

No, you cannot perform a backup, because your data is encrypted by default and the only way to disable it is to format your data.
I have a unique problem. I have a HTC Desire 612 from Verizon and I decided to revive it to playe PoGo. But it was stuck in a boot loop and I couldn't get any custom ROM.
Finally a gentle soul here gave me the stock rom and I flashed it vide TWRP and played PoGo for weeks. Then yesterday the phone bro led and when it came up it was stuck in a boot loop.
So I decided to flash the stock ROM again. But before that I tried to factory reset. I could go to TWRP, select wipe data, enter yes and the wiping was successful, then clear dalvic and cache and system beforehand finally I flashed the stock ROM.
Surprise surprise is NOTHING happens. The phone boots without the apps telling me they are installing. Then I get back the exact same data in my phone including my selected wallpaper and apps. Before I can do anything the phone restarts.
Point is wiping and restoring the stock ROM does NOTHING to the phone yet the processes are successful. Can somebody help?

It really is about TWRP failing to wipe
on my A2017U After unlocking the bootloader and having twrp 3.0.4 installed I went to install resurrection remix and gapps and upon boot it asks for a password that I had never set up. before installing the ROM i formatted the data and wiped everything. What do I need to do? I reloaded a stock rom and in the settings it says the phone is encrypted. I've tried searching for answers to this but I haven't been able to find anything..

Are you sure you are ACTUALLY USING the 'Format data' button? Wiping won't do anything to the encryption (i'm asking just to be sure).
Otherwise try doing this:
-Format data, wipe system, dalvik, cache
-Flash Universal Bstck
-Flash your modem
-Flash the ROM
-Flash either noverity-opt-encrypt-axon7 (I think the name was that one; just make sure it is for the axon7 or ailsa_ii), or SuperSU/Magisk which should have that packaged in.
This really shouldn't happen...

yes, I am actually using format data button and typing yes. I will try using the noverity later this evening and give you a followup
If I remember this right you have to use both in twrp,
factory reset and format data, I read this here on XDA or Reddit before I unlocked my bootloader.

this is what I did.
1. Boot to TWRP
2. wipe/factory reset
3. advanced wipe everything but sd card and usb
4. format data, type yes
5. install ROM and Gapps
6. boot.
everything loads okay except I get it asking for password
I have not tried another ROM yet or the noverity-opt-encrypt-axon7 I will have to do those later tonight.
One more thing I was going to try is remove the lockscreen pin/fingerprint on the stock before doing anything

Do this after you flashed rom and gapps, only factory reset and format data, no need to wipe other stuff.
Edit: I did this directly after the unlock, I flashed the latest official twrp through the unlock twrp version, rebooted to twrp, advanced wiped caches and data, not system, flashed bootloader and modem from the Los thread for my axon version, flashed dark rom with gapps, rebooted and run into the same issue as you. Back to twrp, factory reset, format data, then reboot and everything was good ....., Or Format data and then factory reset, try both if necessary.

Another thing you could try is booting to the bootloader and trying "fastboot format userdata"

You just need to wipe data cache dalvic after flashing the ROM
You have the factory reset step in the wrong place. Do it after the rom and gapps installation...
Essentially the phone is still encrypted though factory reset . You need to get rid of the encryption AFTER you flash the new ROM...
Change the data file system to ext4.

This seemed to do the trick for me.
To change the file system type in TWRP 3.2.3.0:
Go to 'wipe', then 'advanced wipe' and select 'Data', press 'Repair or Change File System' and then 'Change File System' to EXT4. It will say "format" which often means "delete" but didn't remove the ROM I had flashed moments before.
I also did this below first- but without doing a re-flash of the bootloader and modem:

Idk if this will help with your use case, but for other users, it can be good to know.
but for the stock ROM: Settings -> Security -> Screen Lock -> Enter your pin -> It should ask you if you want to shut off the password on boot up
Hey, so I can't decrypt my device anymore. Not in Android itself, and not in the recovery. I've tried sideloading no_verity.zip and formatting the system via fastboot, so far nothing helped. When I try to flash the stock rom via sideload, it says it's not readable. I don't know if thats because I didn't decrypt the device before flashing or because the zip is faulty, but I've tried 3 diffrent roms, including one that has worked before.
Is there anything I can do to get my phone working again?
Device: Onepluss 5 6GB
Rom: Omnirom
Install latest codeworkx twrp or blue spark twrp, skip password menu, format data (not wipe), reboot recovery, now wipe everything, then flash what you want

Thank you! That worked. I figuered formatting data and wiping data would work quite the same, but thanks for proofing me wrong ^^
A friend just cleared cache and dalvik cache from TWRP on his OP5 and now when the phone turns on, it shows the spinning OOS boot screen and after about 30 seconds it starts the recovery.
We tried flashing the ROM again but it didn't change a thing. We tried flashing it from the stock recovery but clicking "Install from internal storage" didn't work and ADB sideloading is not possible.
I'm running out of ideas.
Try doing adb sideload from linux instead of windows. You can also choose to load the rom from a pendrive using otg.
just flash twrp again, flash oos, boot. might ask for a password, at that point you will restart back to recovery (will be oos recovery now) and just select you dont know the password and it will wipe your phone and then turn on. then go back and reinstall twrp again.
my guess is he accidentally clicked clear system, clearing cache doesnt break anything. clearing system on oos breaks it and you have to start fresh. that or install a custom rom.... but oos is better, so id spend the time and just do it right.
