Hello folks,
Last Saturday, my Droid X was stolen. I just got the replacement today and being a semi-noob, I just realized that I hadn't copied all of my Titanium Backup from the SD card to the computer so now I'm basically stuck at the beginning.
I'm ready to root my device but I've hit a roadblock. For some reason, I cannot get through the installation for USB Composite Device. I've tried PC Mode, Mass Storage, Windows Media Sync, and Charge Only. Sometimes I can see the icon of the Droid in my computer but I can't get it to show only the removable storage device.
Cannot Install this Hardware - Error occurred during the installation of the device. The System cannot find the file specified.
I don't want to root and backup everything to the SD card if my computer won't read the SD card. I have the motorola drivers installed and this worked fine on the previous phone.
Can anyone help me figure out this problem? Thanks!
Make sure the Motorola drivers are installed correctly on your PC. You might need to locate the latest versions from motorola to do this.
IIRC, I had a similar problem on my work PC originally. For some reason, the automatic detection wasn't set to check the Internet for drivers, so it was only looking on my laptop. Try checking that.
Did you try changing the phone settings so "USB debugging" was on? Sorry- I can't remember where the heck it is now. The settings on this phone to me are just wonkie. It's in there though. Try it with that turned on.
Usb debugging is in settings>applications>development
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Turn USB Debugging off. Set USB connections to Mass Storage.
If you have autplay turned on, then Windows will offer to run/install the moto connect software. This version is slightly different ( from what reason?) from the one available at Moto's website.
Run that full install, THEN switch over to USB Debugging and allow it to install the drivers (Again)
Hey guys, I flashed a new ROM to my phone and so far the only issue I have had is with the USB 'mounting'.
When I plug my phone into the USB I sometimes get the notification. To get the notification to always show up I have to unplug, USB settings > Mass Storage, and upon reconnecting I get the notification. However when I "Select to copy to/from your computer" the drawer just slides back up and I dont get the mount screen like I used to. Can anyone help me out?
ROM I used:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316769
EC07-Clean rom+rooted+bebinged+deodex+minor debloat (same one im running): Here (dependent on ec07 radio+kernel as well)
Followed the instructions by Ciscogee here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248077
you need to check USB debugging in settings/application/development. That should fix it.
Im at school/work right now but Ill try that as soon as Im off.
That worked, thanks. Cant believe I didnt check that to begin with...
Hi I broke my nexus 7 3g. I wanted to reinstall paranoid android and make everything fresh. Checking wipe data with goo manager didn't completely make everything stock so I figured maybe PA saved something to the "sd card", so I tried to wipe external data in twrp and I got unable to wipe /usb-otg, then I figured maybe if I wiped all the other options that might fix it and that just got rid of the OS completely.
I get unable to mount /usb-otg when trying to mount it to my desktop to copy a copy of the rom over because it seems my sd card did manage to get formatted. Unless I'm not choosing the right thing I don't know somebody help please before I throw this thing in the garbage.
I can't get it to show up in the nexus 7 toolkit but I have the donate version of that if by some chance that'll make the process easier. God damn please help me.
I've installed I think every program ever made for windows (gonna have to reformat windows again weeeeeeeee) trying to fix this and they all seem to want my nexus in adb mode but I don't think there's an adb mode when there's no OS installed. I'm willing to pay if that'll get me some help faster.
"mount /usb-otg" is for putting a usb storage device (flash memory key or USB Hard Drive) on a OTG cable attached to the N7 when booted into TWRP recovery.
It is NOT for making the N7 look like a USB mass storage device to an attached PC.
So put your ROM file on a USB key drive (VFAT formatted, not NTFS formatted), and flash it from TWRP "external storage". You don't need ADB to be working if you do that.
If you don't have a big enough flash key or a USB Hard Drive to do this with, then you have two remaining options:
1) Get adb working
2) Get fastboot working (and fastboot flash a stock ROM, and then proceed from there)
good luck

Holy crap I kinda thought the otg thing was because I flashed the kernel for using a charging otg cable. You know what I googled everything under the sun except the error itself. I was serious about the money if you want like $5 or $10 let me know if you got a donate link.
I'm pretty curious to know how to get adb working without an os installed. I'm pretty curious again about using fastboot because I have fastboot and it wouldn't show up on the nexus 7 toolkit etc etc etc. If you don't want to explain them that's fine because I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna mess up this bad ever again and I'm gonna buy a second usb flash drive now that I know I might finally have a reason to have even a single one haha.
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you I guess I can throw out my tape and floppy drives now that it's 2013 and we're in the future.
The custom recoveries also run ADB... so you don't need an OS installed to use adb - just a custom recovery.
But there is a catch: ADB from the custom recoveries (either CWM or TWRP) show up on a different USB IDs than what the N7 (Android) OS uses
This little tiny detail effs up just about every newb Windoze user because they get an ADB driver installed for one or the other (either the OS flavor - using Google or Asus drivers, or the custom recovery flavor - using the "Universal Naked Driver")... and then they can't understand "why ADB doesn't work" in the other mode.
Sorry but I'm not going to rehash a tutorial on Windows drivers. I put up a gory long winded story somewhere, wait here it is. Feel free to ignore it. Woe to you if you are using Windows 8.
Rather than profuse "thank you"s, click on the Thanks button. At the end of the year I'm going to trade them in for some brownie points.
Well I clicked the thanks buttons but I just have to type it once more thanks there it is, I'll read that link soon too and I'll click the thanks button on that see ya in the future
Hey guys,
I'm having a bit of an issue with my s4, in my efforts to fix it, I am transferring files to my laptop, I'm using LinuxMint Mate Edition but I get a "can not lock device" error. I can use my windows partition, and it works fine so no problems there, but was seeing if anyone knew how to mount as a hard drive? I've enabled usb debugging and no go.
Mtp shows 2 ipods/media players but no files inside.
Ptp shows a camera, but files are all "corrupted". (they are not, that's just what it's telling me.)
I can put them on windows then access via linux, but I'd like to be able to just boot linux instead of running around.
(my windows is jacked, after x minutes it starts giving up, hard drive is partitioned so linux isn't affected by bad sectors, runs perfectly).
So yeah, any assistance would be most appreciated
Thanks
***edit:
Figured it out.
1. Apparently the ports was iffy, cable had to be just right for data transfer. Switched ports.
2. Look up go-mptfs! Build it from source and you should be good to go for those older linux distros
Can anyone help me?
I just got a new 6T and today I decided to try a custom rom.
I got successful in flashing the Fajita Vendor, AOSiP with Gapps Pico by using TWRP. I didn't get magisk
I connect my phone to my PC, went to Developers Settings to make sure 'USB Configuration is on the top most'. There were only File Transfer, USB Tethering, MIDI, PTP and No Data Transfer. I set it to File Transfer but it could not get detected on my PC. I have tried 3 different PCs and my phone could not get the storage detected on the PC (so I could transfer some old data back/if I would want to take data out of the phone too)
I've tried to go back to OOS by flashing the OOS rom but still the same.
I hope someone can help me.
This is a bug from Android 10 custom roms.
You can transfer files in TWRP though.

I have gone back to OOS 9.0.17 for the meantime. I can now see storage detected on the PC but when I click on it, it doesn't show any folder nor allow me to copy stuff in. I've also set USB Configuration to File Transfer too.

Nvm. I fixed it by going to TWRP and Fixing content. On OOS 9.0.17.

Good to know
The other way to enable mtp
Connect your device to PC, you will /must hear a sound on the PC.
Check drivers
On you android phone
Open settings, go to storage, press the three dot option on the top right side, you will find USB computer connection, open it and choose mtp.
Check my answer
