Stick with the Diamond, much better IMO. Only advantages of a HD is the bigger screen and more RAM, but I think the Diamond is much more useable.
To answer your question, that appears to be the case for me, yes.
"Only" the screen is a pretty major advantage, it's almost double the size. The Diamond isn't seriously usable for web browsing - the HD is. Ditto for video.

That's rubbish and completely untrue. I find the camera to be quite excellent and picture quality very good in fact.
I don't blame you though for getting that impression. Before I got my own unit, I also had that false impression from reading all the complaints on this forum. But after getting my own HD, I'm really happy with it. This is despite not having flash.

Exactly the HTC Touch HD is a great phone. Some people reading forum like this think they get a good sampling of what people using the phone think about it. That is not true since it is mostly the maybe 1% that have troubles of some kind with their phone that write here. The rest of the people that are happy with their phone do not write about.
The only thing I can recommend for people considering buying the phone is to get the phone and try it out. You will most likely like it a lot.
Camera is not bad, but also not good. Don't buy it as a camphone.
I've got a nokia n82 and a touch hd.
If the cam is ****? Yeah, it is. Don't let people let you think different. I guess it's not worse than other htc-phones though, I haven't had one since the original touch (elf).
If it was daylight out here now (denmark, actually) I should have taken comparision shots for you, but it's not, and with the xenon flash on the n82 it is even more superior in this light.
That said, the touch hd is a fantastic device in every other aspect! I didn't buy it for the cam, and don't care about it's picture quality, since I've got my n82.
The camera is only suitable for taking pictures in well-lit area.
Forget about dark areas.
All in all I'm sufficiently pleased with it, as I did not expect anything great.

In the drak they are very dark - the missing flash is a desaster.
Do not buy the hd for taking pictures or videos

The quality of the photos that the Touch HD can take is far better than the three HTC devices I've used before. It's actually pretty good in my limited experience with it. However, the camera remains virtually unusable because of two things:
1 - the delay between tapping the screen and the photo taking the image while the camera fusses over the focussing and then thinks for a couple of seconds
2 - the lack of hardware button makes camera shake very hard to avoid
These two factors make it almost impossible to take a photo of a moving scene because of the unpredictability of the timing of the shot and the likelihood of camera shake.
Attached is a photo I've just taken in the low evening light that illustrates what should be a perfectly easy photo. I couldn't avoid camera shake even standing still and being ultra-careful. The exposure isn't bad though.

TIP: Disable the "Auto Whiteness" in the camera.
I have spent the last 2 weeks playing with the camera and was very disappointed with low level lighting pictures at first, BUT! now I have ressolved this problem.
There is an option in the camera "Auto Whiteness", the sensor or software in the camera seems to be useless at judging lighting, so if you set this to manual and select the indoor lighting icon (looks like a light bulb) then the camera gives quite impressive low level lighting pictures.
Speed of the camera between pressing and taking a picture is about 3 seconds, not the worst shutter delay I have seen on a camera phone, but not the best. Hopefully HTC can address this with future software updates??
For me the main issue is the blurryness of virtually all pictures,
if its a picture of a person I have to ask them to be still, then I take a pic and then I have to ask them once more to be DEAD STILL.
Most people take stay still to mean don't walk off any where but with the Touch HD stay still means don't let one muscle move.
If you want a phone that takes decent picture then its not or you.
Its a multimedia phone (pics not included)
I have been playing with the HD for two days now, which meant finding all of the tweaks and then removing them until it works for me. The excellent tweak app (search for it here) recommends enabling the sport and burst modes of photo (works great) and then changing the maximum res to 3M (makes my phone crash!)
Anyway if you want to take really good SHAKE FREE pics the ONLY way is through the burst/sport options. The auto focus for the 'normal' cam is so crap that the shutter stays open forever. In sport or burst mode the camera has to ditch the refocus and just shoot - out of the 5 in sport or 30 in burst you will have two or 10 decent pictures. This was exactly the same on my old HTC P3900.
The video is still completely crap - although much improved if you shoot as for MMS.
If we're talking about very low light, even my Canon camera does not give good result. So I don't expect miracle from HD. Having said that, I have taken quite a lot of indoor shots with lights on and the result is not noticeably worst than what my Canon camera can deliver.
As for motion, I actually don't find any problem there. I have taken quite many shots with car moving towards and away from me and the sharpness is still there. No blurring at all.
I find vido recording to be really good.
The lack of hardware button is a non-issue for me. I find it very easy to just touch the screen, the try to hold it still for the process to be completed.
This is the best camera I've ever had in a phone, and I find myself using it quite a lot since getting my HD.
This is seriously the worst camera I've ever had in a phone. And the sad part is the auto focus which is way too slow and cannot be disabled. No other tweak will help really unless somebody will figure out how to set focus to infinity permanently.

Auto light balance is useless, shutter speed is miserably slow (not even for a still photo) , no flash , video is worthless. 5 MP not in full screen (in full screen it is 4MP) .
If you have kids and want to take a photo for them then please wait till thy sleep and start shooting , other wise you will be wasting only your time and battery .
It is even too bad in watching movies without setting hours and hours converting them!
I hope it is not a hardware issue and only software that can be updated later .

The phone has some slick features like the Moto voice services where you can wake up the phone with your custom voice command with the phone being up to 5ft away from you. It also detects when you are at home, work, in a car or sleep and automatically changes behavior of apps based on where you are. The home screen widget is nice too, it gives you up to the minute weather details and lets you know how soon it'll rain or snow down to the minute. The battery life is amazing, once you leave the house you never have to worry about using a charger for the rest of the day.
Now those are all great but the good ends there with me. The camera was subpar and all weekend I was out at events and parties and I wish I had my Note 3 with me to take pics. A lot of the pics came out blurry, the eyes on people where white devilish looking. The call quality sucked too, I had the volume as high as it can go and unless you are in a completely silent room you will have a hard time hearing. I went to the gym and had my beats headphones in and volume to the max and I could still hear the gym radio. There's no notification light on the front of the phone, this to me is a huge disappointment. I use the Lightflow app and i have a different color light for every notification and it comes in handy when you want to know what type of notification is awaiting for you without touching the phone.
I will be returning the phone this week and going back to using my Note 3 while I wait for the Nexus 6 or Galaxy Note Edge to come out.
Pros - Great battery life, premium metal feel, home screen widget, lock screen notifications look nice, Moto voice services.
Cons - Screen isn't too bright, low ear piece volume, low volume with headphones, poor camera, kind of slippery in hand, no notification light, no removable battery, no expandable memory.

Not sure what your problems are with the camera... I have an S5 and Turbo tends to take better pictures in most situations by far, especially in low light. It's not the cameras fault that you can't hold it steady when taking a photo...
I think your only valid complaint would be the LED notifications. Which if you did any research at all before buying the device, you would of known before purchase it did not have. Everything else can and most likely will be addressed soon. The storage complaint is old, 32GB is fair & they offer 64GB at a competitive price that no one else is really matching.
Go have fun with TouchWiz & Samsung plastic I guess.
Go into settings, sound, and audio effects. Disable the equalizer. Everything will sound miles better.
Camera is kinda slow though, I'm with you on that.

Lol wow, you act like my review was about you. I'm going to post a few pics and you tell me if they are great or not. I've seen other post where people had to tweak settings etc but my Note 3 took way better pics. Even when I use Snapchat the focus seems slow and delayed. It seems like you have to as still as a statue to take a good pic and that's not always an option. And as far as the notification light issue, I just figured that was standard. Even if I knew it wasn't there it's still a negative against the phone.

Nah. I just think a lot of the comments around here are quite silly towards this phone. It's like people went and purchased the phone without even doing any research and expected it to be better than anything on the market.
I agree, those pictures are quite bad. However, it's not purely because of the camera itself.
For one, you are using 15.5 MP 16:9 and not the full 21MP 4:3, which tends to produce a much better picture. Secondly, you are most likely just randomly snapping without even selecting a proper focus exposure. The pictures are blurry in most cases because of the low light situation, you probably have HDR enable for some reason and the fact you don't have a steady hand while taking the picture does not help. Third, I notice flash in most every shot, which on any smartphone will tend to produce a horrible picture.
You just point and shoot. So your pictures are bound to be bad.

Funny I knew that would be your comeback, but I had other people take pics when I wanted to be in the pic and they turned out bad. And when I take pics with my Note 3, people always say how they look great and even better than iPhone 5/5s.
The camera is slow on the Turbo and I'm not the only one to say that.

I have the note 3 and i kinda agree with you on the camera stuff... but I think your just too used to the really good quality camera on the note 3.
I completely agree with the OP, the Turbo produces mediocre pictures compared to other flagship phones. Landscape photos in particular lack detail.
FYI, taking photos in 16:9 format is what most people do, not everyone wants 4:3 photos.

Huh? Small Pic is cropped from larger. You can almost read the numbers on the gauge. That photo was taken yesterday through the glass on the doors which probably degraded the image slightly also.
There's like 5 guys (not the OP really, I think he's new) posting over all the forum about how "mediocre" everything about the Droid Turbo is, changed the tone to negative in this section. They know who they are. It's an exclusive device with a locked bootloader so it's a small part of XDA, 5 butthurt guys can make a lot of noise.

That's what I'm talking about, close up photos seem to be great, it's really lacking in the distance area such as landscapes.
Just to show you where I'm coming from, this was my G3. I know it's not a fair comparison since they are different photos, but I've found the Turbo to really lack in the landscape photo department. Up close photos are great.

What you see there is because of very Low light situations. Low light means a slow stutter speed and any movement (trees or camera) will degrade the image dramatically. I can't really comment on Turbos performance in low light because I haven't tested it yet. But it's ability to capture fine detail is there.
I had sort of assumed that the Droid Turbo has active notifications like the Moto X. Is that not the case? It makes an LED redundant.

Um, ya. I personally think the Turbo took the better picture here. For instance, I can't even make out Toshiba on your G3 picture. Much more clear/crisp on the Turbo. Not to mention your G3 sample is fairly over exposed & extremely warm in color. But both pictures are relatively bad due to settings and hard to really use as a comparison. Unless you are comparing just a simple pull out of pocket point and shoot.
Your other shots (above) seem to just be point and shoot as well and not necessarily focus exposed or any effort really put into them (I could be wrong). You are also taking a lot of shots pointed/aimed in direct sunlight/sunset which will put out pretty poor quality pictures in general anyway.
Stop posting bad situations and try something that will actually yield a decent photo for comparison. The shots you are taking are really more aimed towards a more high end sensor.
In general you are expecting way too much out of a camera phone in most of your situations.

I was kindly sent a unit to review by LG along with the LG bluetooth Infinim Headset. There are many reasonably objective reviews out there that cover the specs and overall performance/value in comparison to other phones (such as youtube’s fantastic MKBHD). What I would like to do I share my experience with this phone after 6 weeks and how it affected me.
I was previously using an Nexus 5 (incidentally also made by LG, based on the G2). It had everything I thought wanted in a phone; a large, high res, well saturated screen, it was blazing fast and it looks great too. I would always have a little smile to myself whenever someone said ‘wow, what phone is that?’. So despite reading/watching reviews of every noteworthy smartphone released, I thought, 'why would I ever want to change my phone again?’ (Other than the occasional screen-size envy of larger phones, but that’s not something everyone wants anyway). Then the G4 came along.
You see the biggest flaw of the Nexus 5 was it’s weak camera, but then that was never an issue for me. Even considering the often lauded iPhone and flagship Samsung cameras, owning a very portable compact mirrorless camera with near DSLR picture quality, I thought that considering the camera on a phone really was pointless. Nevertheless, on paper the G4’s specs caught my attention. Aside from the usual latest silicon found on the latest flagships, and personal taste for larger screens, it was the camera that intrigued me. A 1.8F aperture lens capable of shooting RAW. Could this really be the replacement for both my phone and camera I wondered?
After having the privilege of testing one for 6 weeks the simple answer is yes. A quick visit to the trylgg4.co.uk website will show what I’m talking about. While of course it doesn’t not completely stand up to a dedicated camera with interchangeable lenses. With its beautiful, perfectly saturated 1440p screen it sports an unmatched viewfinder, and I can immediately decide with confidence that I got the shot I was looking for. In terms of overall picture quality it beats very other phone out there hands down. The wide angle and ability to take shoot in a 16:9 ratio is absolutely perfect for landscape shots. The wide aperture combined with great sharpness makes for unrivalled depth of field (that thing that makes photos look ‘professional’). It also makes for killer low light performance, beating even my NEX-F3. For those who like to fiddle with every setting being able to so easily manually adjust exposure compensation, ISO and shutter speed it in such a simple, intuitive user interface (incidentally made even easier on such a big beautiful screen) is again unmatched in ANY optical device with this kind of portability.
Consider my own real world experience. I do not speak as a professional photographer by any means but I am particularly fussy about getting quality shots on holidays and capturing great moments out with my friends. I also do a lot of travelling, and I recently went to Iceland. This involved a lot of long, arduous hikes, especially where the most beautiful shots can taken from. I can tell you that the last thing anyone wants is a giant DSLR swinging around one's neck for hours on end, or to think that it might get damaged or dropped when scrambling over steep and dangerous terrain or to take it out in the pouring rain. Now this is where a more compact alternative might come into play, but then one is already going to be taking a knock with regards to PQ, not to mention that the smaller systems inevitably become more tedious to use in the settings department. When continually, day after day, whipping one’s camera out in those awkward/ dangerous positions (where often the best shots can be found), there becomes a temptation to just use the point and shoot feature, and in the end all that money you spent for all those features, and all the effort of lugging something less than ideally portable around just becomes pointless. And this is where the G4 really won me over. Despite it’s easy to use and flexible manual settings, almost every time it did just as good a job, if not better, as my dedicated camera when I simply used the automatic settings. Autofocus was always fast and rarely struggled to fix and white balance was consistent and accurate. By the end of my trip I was asking myself, ‘why even bother with a dedicated camera?’. I will be shortly putting my NEX for sale on eBay.
On a side note I would say it’s super wide angle front camera is probably better that many rear cameras on other phones (inc. the n5) and has now converted me to selfies (shock horror!). Also to note are that it’s 4k videos are of stunning quality, and that is something that is only offered by the latest high end dedicated camera systems. I never ever bothered to take videos before, I can't stop now.
I stress that I am not suggesting this any sort of replacement at all for a fully equipped DSLR, but when it does such a good job against a dedicated portable system, for both my needs and I’m sure for those of many others, I can confidently say that owning this phone will really make one question the need for a separate camera. I am suddenly whipping it out of my pocket every time I see anything interesting that might make a good shot without being put off thinking that I don’t have the gear on me to do it justice. I am taking selfies constantly (that’s probably a bad thing), and I use every excuse to show of the beautiful pictures I’ve taken displayed on that glorious screen.
As regards everything else about the phone I really don’t have any complaints. The phone performs well in all areas such a performance, reception/connectivity, call quality, etc. Perhaps there is the occasional stutter but nothing a quick app clear won’t fix. Now I would call myself a moderate to even heavy user, and I have found the battery always last comfortably until he end of the day (16hrs off charge). It’s worth mentioning that while I was in Iceland and shooting 4k video ALL the time with the screen brightness on max in the midday sun, it’s possible to burn through the battery in half a day. However this is why the ever more disappearing feature of the removable battery makes the G4 such a unique article. When you are out taking photos and shooting video all day, having your phone tethered to a portable battery pack simply won’t do, and what good is quick charge if there is nowhere to charge the phone! But with the G4, simply switch off the phone, whack in a fresh cell and in one minute you’re back at 100%. The same goes for removable storage too. Even a 128gb iPhone 6 or GS6 couldn’t have stored all the 4k video I shot in one week. Other backing everything up somewhere everyday, which often is not possible on such trips, removable storage is the ONLY viable solution. Another reason that makes the G4 so unique.
The only other things that I can think worth mentioning is how quickly you get used to the buttons on the back, and that the tapered edge design really feels nice in the hand and makes it easy to hold despite the phone being on the larger side. LG’s UI skin is not far off the stock experience and coming from a nexus device I had no trouble at all adjusting, and actually welcomed some of the added features, like being able to edit the quick settings menu. The external design is a personal matter of taste, but I like it. It’s smart, modern and discreet. In fact more people have said ‘wow, what phone is that?’ in 6 weeks of the G4 than the N5 in 6 months. The real difference is that now they say, ‘did you really shoot that with your phone?!’.
In short, for me, the G4 truly has changed the way I see and use my phone.

I've had mine since Wed night and so far, I really like it. The deciding factor for me was the promotions with the purchase through Sprint, which included a Google Home and 49" 1080p TV and the placement of the finger print reader. I previously had S7 Edge and I think I liked the bright colors and true blacks on the S7 screen more, but the G6 screen is by no means a disappointment. The colors are more accurate than the AMOLED screens and it is really clear plus the finger print reader works WAY better than the S7 did and it's quick. The G6 feels solid and it's easy to hold. I feel the speaker is decent but not great. As for battery life, it's too hard to tell at this point because "doze" learns behavior and usually takes a few days to really optimize battery life, but out of the box I would say decent so far, considering I'm on it all the time LOL. I also feel the camera is better than the S7 and I'm going to really get use out of the wide-angle lens. I do not regret the choice at this point. I've had LG "G" series phones in the past and feel it's the best one by far. I prefer Google Assistant over Bixby since it's has the google knowledge base behind it and it already works with so many other smart home devices.
If you are all about specs, then S8 is probably the way to go because it's got the new generation processor.

In low light the camera struggles. Any motion in the image turns into a blur. The shutter speed is entirely to slow in low light but theres hope an update is coming soon. Other than that the phone is incredible. Battery has been amazing. 6 1/2 hours screen on time every single day.

I don't mind low light photos that much..
I mean we mostly use that aspect just for testing our cameras out.

Wow if you're getting 6 hours screen on time its impressive!
Specially for an lg phone.
I don't mind low light photos that much..
I mean we mostly use that aspect just for testing our cameras out.

Totally agree about the low light. In normal use the camera is outstanding and wide angle is so useful. I'm seeing others getting 7 hours SOT which is remarkable for a 3300 battery. I haven't really turned anything off on mine as far as settings go so for me 6 1/2 is way more than I expected.

Looks great. Its something like 561dpi if I remember correctly. Extremely crisp and great color. Dims a little lower on auto than I'm used to but plenty bright enough.

I really prefer lg's camera over samsung's and I'm glad to know its good.
I've read some reviews saying that the camera is a disappointment over the past cameras and I got a bit worried!

HI There! Just wanted to share my experience so far. I'm coming from an S7 and have used LG phones in the past. The user experience in general has been great. I love the screen, love the feel in the hand and I really enjoy software experience too.
BUT - The camera is not good. I have a little boy, so I literally take about 20 photos a day - So far this camera has been really disappointing. For this reason I will sell the phone and get something else.

edit: sorry I didn't explain why I don't love the camera. Colours look pretty good, however there is a massive issue with focus. Even just the slightest movement causes the picture to blur. This is very noticeable with the wide angle lens, which obviously doesn't have OIS, however this issue is still present with the primary shooter. If i didnt rely on the camera so much, I'd really love this phone. However I'd rather have a phone that i didn't love, for the sake of good photos.

That's weird I've never seen seen that before.
Man, I don't know what to think. On one hand I really want to get this phone as I held the S8 and BB and really don't like the fingerprint sensor location or curved screen. Those SOT reports some of you have is amazing! On my S6 I'm lucky to get 2hrs! So mostly I want the G6 because of a beefy battery, flat screen, and better camera (the OIS has been wonky in my S6 since early in it's life...I have to shake/smack the phone to get it to kick in and actually focus). But this motion blur has me a bit wary. I guess every phone choice is a compromise of some sort or another.
I can also confirm that the camera has issues with low light and movement. I've got a 2 year old, and virtually every shot of her is blurry unless I take it in full daylight. I upgraded from the LG G4, and I never had such a hard time getting a focused picture of her before. (For example, I had to take 20 pictures of her on a swing set to get 1 in focus.. shutter speed was reporting at 1/120. My G4 NEVER had an issue where her entire body was blurry and usually anything over 1/60th came out clean). Low light is also somewhat relative. I have a lot of issues indoors and at dusk, neither of which I would ordinarily consider low light situations and both of which my G4 handled better. I've been playing around with manual mode and have found that I can usually get a clean picture in low light and with movement there, so I'm mostly confident it's a software issue that can be corrected (though I understand the V20 has similar issues and is now out 6 months without a software fix....)
Overall I still love the phone and the wide angle is AMAZING when it is bright outside, so I'm just relying on my wife's S7 to handle the low light and fast motion pictures for now. If you don't have a second camera option though, I might be hesitant to buy the G6 until more testing is done and a solution is found to the blurry issue.
I had G6 for few days and i wasnt totally happy with it first but its coming around and few changes in settings are making it feel more snappy.
First thing, the phone feels great in hand and screen is top notch. Coming from LG G3, phone feels smaller and easier to hold. Also, i really like the notification and ringer sounds from LG.
Out of the box, G6 didnt feel any faster than LG G3 at first but few settings in debug option(turned off animation) and battery optimization ignore options, its feels like a new phone.
I'll have to see how much battery usage will suffer from these changes but it looks like LG G6 is in battery optimization mode as default. I've turned on "ignore battery save optimization" for chrome and camera, and other apps i normally use everyday. I can notice ES file explorer opening faster and camera auto zoom reacting slightly faster now.

yeah I can concur with the bad camera, just recieved my G6 from ATT today, and it only lasted 3 hours, I have been using a IPhone 7 plus for almost for week after not using IOS for 6 years and I loved the feel and the screen but the rear camera and the front camera suck, the Note 5 I had took better pics and selfies by huge margin, so I had to take the G6 back, if it took the pics like my old note 5 did I would have kept it, but I take lot of pics and i want something that takes crisp pics, so maybe S8 might be in my future :good:

There is software update scheduled for April 7th -Tmobile. Hopefully some of the camera issues will be addressed.
My V20 didn't take blurry or grainy pictures. I don't know.... I really like this phone but pictures are really important to my wife and I. I don't want to be forced to live in the "your pictures suck!" category.

I Had the v10 and v20 before too, and I can`t believe LG would send a flagship out to market and have so many complaint about the camera, I`m with you..... the V20 took a lot better pics.
So I guess, the software update did not fix the blur issue.
The blurry pictures aren't a software issue. The main problem I see is that LG removed laser auto-focus from the G6, so technically the G5/V20 cameras are vastly superior when it comes to focusing on objects (especially when considering macro images). Also, LG chose to over-saturate colors resulting in less color-accurate images, not to mention lower sensor size = lower detail images (16/20MP G5&V20 vs 12MP G6). Downgraded cameras aside, the only other big gripes I have with the G6 are no removable battery and that they removed the IR blaster and notification LED. Having the older SOC isn't so bad these days as the SD82x series is still very fast. If I didn't already own the G5 (which I am very happy with for the most part) I might consider the G6, but probably would opt to wait for the V30 instead if it wasn't an urgent situation.

So I've had my pixel 4 for a week now and have enjoyed everything about it. Even the battery is no way near as bad as all the negative hype that surrounded it.
Anyway, I hadn't had much chance to use the camera much, and the still photos of the beach, or scenic countryside have looked on point so far. But, I took a photo of my 2 year old daughter, in my living room the other afternoon, and even with little movement the camera would blur her hands or head; I thought this weird as my pixel 3a XL didn't have this issue at all.
I thought nothing more of it, until Saturday just gone, where I went to her toddler-friends party. There they were playing about as toddlers do, tried to take photos and every, single one had motion blur to them. I mean they weren't moving particularly fast, and not was it that dark. The shutter lag reminds me of when I used to use Samsung mobiles indoors, but I've never had this issue with pixels.
I've written a thread on Reddit, and the general consensus is that the 4 uses much slower shutter speeds than its predecessors, to reduce noise and produce slightly crisper photos - the issue is, of those photos have any motion they'll turn into blurring messes.
Does anyone else have this issue? It seems not that many realised this until I mentioned it!
I've mentioned it to Google in camera feedback but doubt that'd happen.
I have the exact same problem.
Might be a hardware issue. I don't have that issue.
