SECURITY CHECK FAILED : modem - Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e Questions & Answers

So I also tried rooting my S5e following the "system-as-root" part of the original magisk installation instructions, but odin stops short from being finished with "FAILED", and my tablet tells me: "SECURITY CHECK FAILED : modem"
How do I recover from this? I'm a bit of a noob to this so any help would be great!!
Cheers

Hi Zak
I had exactly your problem.
What you need to do is follow the 'Galaxy Tab S5e (SM-T720) - Root Instructions (Release 1.0)'
thread in xda, which list every step of the way.
Instead of flashing the whole patched ap file you need to open it with 7 zip and remove everything except the needed files, and then re zip to a tar file.
It is all explained in the post.
Don't be to bothered it was all new to me 3 months ago but I have found that even when you think your tablet is completely broken flashing your original firmware through Odin puts everything right
Your most important thing is to KEEP A COPY OF YOUR ORIGINAL FIRMWARE

[9001] [9000] Found a perfect Guide To Flash ROMs !

Here is a complete guide to Flash ROMs -
Download ODIN Multidownloader 4.43. Link: Download
After it has downloaded, extract it anywhere u want (i suggest desktop, easier)
RUN ODIN.
Power off your phone.
Put your phone into downloading mode. Hold together: Power+Volume Down+Home (phone boots to Downloading mode)
Connect your phone to PC via USB cable.
Wait for the drivers to install. After that, in ODIN, one of the top line “bars” should turn yellow and some text should appear there.
Download the AriesVE.ops file and check it as OPS. Link to download (attached, scroll down the first post, credits goes to manveru0): Download From XDA Developers
Then check the ‘one package’ from the top left
The ROM you’ve downloaded, check it as one package. If it’s MD5 file. Then click flash.
Flashing will take about 9 minutes.
When you see “Close serial port and wait until rebooting” in odin, you can unplug your phone.
Enjoy!
— If the flashing doesn’t complete. Or you face some other problems, just try another USB port, or computer if possible.

What do you think ?
meh.
It's by no means complete at all.
I don't think the galaxy s plus is the same as the i9000.
This reads like upgrading firmware because its ODIN. Custom ROMS require root and a recovery module.
What is an ops file? Your links are for downloads and don't point to the original context or user's post.
.ops file contains informations about partitions for Odin (probably for prevent flashing to wrong partition).

ATT S3 Mini SM-G730A 4.4.2 Root Success

Please follow all the steps or you'll have bricked device
Step 1 :
This is the easiest way to enable USB debugging.
Dial *#0808#
Select last option, DM+Modem+ADB
YOUR PHONE MUST ASK FOR USB DEBUGGING AUTHORIZATION ! YOU MUST CHECK ALWAYS ALLOW FROM THIS COMPUTER AND THEN PRESS OK. IF YOU DO NOT GET THIS DO NOT PROCEED
Step 2:
Reboot phone into download mode
Select PDA slot in odin
And flash the tar file root kernel (you'll need to extract contents of rar file and rename file to boot.tar)
Your device will not have display but it will still be working, run saferoot.
Step 3:
Use saferoot thanks to k1mu, Surge1223, download is at the end of the post linked below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48392009&postcount=1
After phone reboots for first time remove USB and enter download mode.
Step 4:
Select PDA slot in odin
And flash the tar file restore display kernel (you'll need to extract contents of rar file and rename file to boot.tar)
Step 5:
Install Supersu from market and open it. Continue with saferoot, that is waiting for the phone.
When flashing the root_boot.tar.md5 i get an error.
<OSM> MD5 hash value is invalid
<OSM> root_boot.tar.md5 is invalid.
---------- Post added at 03:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:12 PM ----------
nvm, I fixed it by removing the .md5 extension.
You're awesome! Thanks!
Nice work.
Looks like we're flashing 4.2.2's kernel, rooting, then flashing 4.4.2's kernel again.
I guess this also means there is the potential to downgrade back to 4.2.2 completely with mobile odin now...
Did you guys have any trouble getting SuperSU to update the su binary?
SU works, just prompts me to update the binary and fails.

You can downgrade to 4.2.2, just flash the stock bootloader first, then it will let you flash the ROM. I had to do it because I bricked at the 4.4.2 upgrade.

I have not been able to find the JB bootloader. It's out there? The ROMs on Sammobile don't include it... I had previously bricked trying to downgrade due to the locked KK bootloader.

Sorry, I misspoke. I don't know if it was the bootloader or something else. Check this out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55251936&postcount=18
Also, root works!
Someone want to explain how those two files could be flashed via ODIN?

From the SM-G730A.
"Root kernel" is simply the 4.2.2 stock kernel, which worked with Saferoot previously, and still does.
"Restore display kernel" is the stock 4.4.2 kernel you started with, you're just reflashing it after rooting.
I extracted boot.img from each ROM (4.2.2 and 4.4.2), created my own tar.md5 files and was able to root successfully also. I'm not sure why the ones in this post don't work with the md5 extension. It's a great idea.

It seems that the SuperSU version (2.01) that is currently (13/10/2014) on the Play Store is outdated. You need to do the following:
1) Download v 2.13 of Chainfire's SuperSU from his Google+ page (I cannot post the link here as I am a new user)
2) Extract the .zip file and find 'Superuser.apk'
3) Transfer 'Superuser.apk' to SD card of your phone
4) Open 'Superuser.apk' from your phone and install/update
5) After the installation/update is complete, open SuperSU and update binary (normal method)
Good luck. I just used this thread to root my Samsung SIII Mini (SM-G730A) from Fido. Working great so far. Thanks atinder! :good:

I can confirm that I've rooted my G730A using the steps given and with the SuperSU apk provided. The first thing I did was bypass Kitkat's SD card limitations -- everything is now exactly the way I want it. Thank you all!
I need help. I tired to root my g730a and I followed all the steps and now my phone has a blank screen with the blue light on. How can I fix this? thanks!

Recovery
Which recovery works for 4.4.2?
Will this work on Verizon SIII mini running 4.4.2? I successfully rooted my Galaxy Tab with Odin and it was easy as pie. This looks a lot more complicated and I have already tried TowelRoot, Saferoot, etc with no success.

Samsung SM-N9005 (without rom) with TWRP v2.8.3.0 can't install any zip by error

Hello to everyone,
The other day my brother bring me his samsung galaxy note 3 sm-N9005 and told me that doesn't work, just only can enter in TWRP (v2.8.3.0) or in download mode. I tried to install a rom and update version of TWRP, but always i have the same message:
checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found
error flashing zip '/sdcard/TWRP/twrp-2.8.7.0-hlte-4.2-img-zip'
Updating partition details...
.. done
When i try to install a ROM from zip file, i have the same problem
I try to generate a md5 file from zip TWRP in computer and then copy to sd card and install from TWRP by sdcard or internal memory of phone, but always i have the same problem.
I dunno what else do. Please can anyone help me?
thanks

Post does not make much sense.
I suggest flash stock rom via Odin first .
There are some major flaws:
1) There is no Android 4.2-designed TWRP for the phone. You must be using wrong file.
2) Why are you trying to install old version?
3) File name is completely wrongly formatted.
For the solution, I assume the phone has or will be having Android 4.4 KitKat or newer.
You have 2 options here:
1) Download twrp-2.8.7.0-hlte-4.4.zip and install it via current TWRP recovery (can not be done in stock recovery).
2) Download twrp-3.0.2-0-hlte.img.tar and install it via ODIN.
This is the site to find the correct files - https://dl.twrp.me/hlte/
To previous poster - Flashing stock firmware does not help achieve his desired result. Just a waste of time.
continue without installing
Hi Someguyfromhell,
Thanks for reply i have some doubts and questions about you reply, but first of all i want to tell you that i dunno anything about android so when you tell me some words i don't understand i'm iOS user.
In point 1) when you say "there is no Android 4.2 TWRP what do you refer? Because in any moment in my first post i don't say anything about 4.2.
In point 2) when you refer to install old version do you refer about TWRP? Well i tried this one, because new ones i can't install by odin. When i do it, and all process finished, phone don't enter in teamwin option, always reboot.
3) Can you explain to me about why file name is wrongly formatted?
Well i tried to install TWRP 3.0.2 by odin, but as i told you, phone don't enter in TWRP application, just appear in main screen where there is samsung galaxy note 3 SM-N9005:
Recovery booting...
Recovery is not seandroind enforcing
set warranty Bit: recovery
And don't move from this screen...
When you say install TWRP v2.8.7.0 via current TWRP recovery, how is this process? i try to look for in internet, but i didn't find anything. Can you explain to me?
About ROM, well as i told in first post now i don't have anyone, because always appear the error about MD5 and i can't install nothing can you recomend me a ROM and where to download it and how to install of course!
thanks a lot!

I have exactly the same problem. I've watched dozens of videos and even when it shows no md5 file found it still installs. Mine does not I've tried to flash different roms at least 10 times without success. My phone was rooted when I bought it could there be a problem with the routing. Cheers

I don't know where you got such file from though. Does not seem to be an actual zip file if it fails flashing. Or the recovery script is messed up.
TWRP download sites do not have such option at all.

Try 2.8.7.0-hlte-4.4, that should be working just fine. 3.0 is quite new, might not be fully finished yet.

My bad, that feature is only on 2.8.4.0 and newer recoveries. You will have to flash the recovery with ODIN.
What happens if you try to flash a ROM? (which ROM and send logs)
Also, you do not have to create MD5 file. It is there to check for the archive integrity, isn't the reason for flash failing. Has to be another error.
Hi again,
Well i did process about TWRP V2.8.7.0 as you told me by odin and worked well, so now i have this version of TWRP
Thanks.
About ROMs, I downloaded few ones like:
1) N9005XXUGBOA5_N9005XEOGBOA4_XEO.zip
2) SOKP-L-5.1.1-LMY48B-R4.0-OFFICIAL-20150613-hlte
3) XEC-N9005XXUGBOK6-20160122145457.zip
4) N9005XXUGBNL8 5.0.(7z) ---> This one is 7z file where inside have 4 files: AP_N9005XXUGBNL8_CL3643614_QB3415922_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar; BL_N9005XXUGBNL8_CL3643614_QB3415922_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar; CP_N9005XXUGBNL8_CL3643614_QB3415922_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar and CS_OXA_N9005XXUGBNL8_CL3643614_QB3415922_REV00_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar
And tried to install, by this process:
1.- Copy 1) , 2) and 3) to ROMs to sdcard in PC, 4) ROM i think that is only for Odin, but i dunno how to do it
2.- Ejecute TWRP in phone, I copy 1) , 2) and 3) ROMs from sdcard_external to internal memory of phone in folder sdcard.
3.- In TWRP i go to Install option and choose the ROMs.
Well so I Tried 3 first and only the 2) tell me succesfull, but then not boot roms, appear a message on the top right that says: "kernel is not seandroid enforcing set warranty Bit: kernel".
with 1) and 3), says me about error, that no MD5:
checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found
error flashing zip '/sdcard/N9005XXUGBOA5_N9005XEOGBOA4_XEO.zip'
Updating partition details...
.. done
How i can obtein logs?
Where i can download a good ROM?
thanks again

First and third are zip files, that are not recovery-flashable - inside the archive are the original firmware files that can be flashed via Odin. Only (custom) ROMs, that have recovery-script inside zip file, can be flashed in TWRP.

[Attempted TWRP Soft Brick] Can you please help me recover from soft bricking my GS5?

I rooted my phone about six months ago so I could have super user permissions. Today, I decided I wanted to try to install cyanogenmod.
After following the instructions to install CM and repeatedly failing (with no apparent harm to the phone), I thought the issue might be that I hadn't unlocked the bootloader. I tried to install TWRP using Odin, but apparently I had installed safestrap back when I rooted. I opened safestrap, attempted to install the packages listed on this post [http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver.../rd-unlocking-galaxys-s5-bootloader-t3337909], and my phone is now apparently/maybe softbricked. I tried to follow the un-bricking instructions on that same page, but I'm getting "fail" messages from Odin.
I do not know what I'm doing. I downloaded what I thought was the stock TAR for my US Verizon Galaxy S5, but it's giving me fail messages when I try to install it with Odin in the AP slot. Am I missing something? Do I need a Pit file or something else in the BL or CP slots? What am I missing?
I would really appreciate any help. I'm out of my league with this.
To add information, I'm getting an error message on my phone saying "[aboot] fused 2 > Binary 1 error" and even after googling that I'm not sure what the fix is.
I just want to get back to non-bricked. Even stock is acceptable.
Go to Sammobile. Com and download ok3 or PB1 firmware for s5 verizon and flash it in odin to your phone

1 you have to get the right CSC for your device e.g. XFA
Once I also downloaded a strange ROM. It had file dates (inside the zip) months older than the patches or update level it was supposed to have. In this case I waited several days and got a ROM with dates that made sense and flashed without the error.
2 ??? flash did not go well -> seems to me you are technically on stock which means no root
If you succeed to flash the Magisk patched AP file then you have to reboot to recovery to actually activate Magisk root.
