Hi.
With both v 6 and 7 of various gcams, my colors are waaay oversaturated.. to the point where green is glaringly radioactive looking.
Any ideas how to fix this? Even setting saturation to 0.5 doesn't seem to make much of a difference. Stock camera image is a bit grayish, but much closer to natural color.

Loving the nexus 7 however I'm wondering is it me or does the screen overall color seem a little faded/washed out. I mean the images are crisp but it seems the color isn't very vibrant.. thoughts? Or do I have a bad unit?
Thanks so much
I found myself thinking the same thing. However the only comparison I have is the same background on my Galaxy Nexus. It could just be the GN being very saturated. I like that though and was a bit disappointed by the screen.
I find the screen to be great. However, I have an Evo LTE so the color saturation seems to be pretty similar.

The screen is great to me. Very clean and viewing angles are great.
Washed after update
The colors were fine, but I'm noticing that they appear washed out since the most recent update. I don't have a direct frame of reference since I updated, but I could swear that the colors aren't as vibrant as they were before. I also have an Evo 4G LTE and the N7 colors are less vibrant (something that wasn't too obvious before). I know they are different screens, it's just something that didn't bug me before.
Hi, could you please comment on how good is skin tone color reproduction. Thanks.
i thinked the same that the colors looks like a bit washed out / fade.. is this normal?
The colors on the S3 are vividly colored

I agree. I think the default automatic brightness feature is a little dull. You should try to manually increase the brightness....that seemed to fix my problem.

Compared to both my Galaxy Tab (original 7" 2010 model) and my Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE, (both with PLS, Samsung's version of IPS screens), the Nexus 7 is indeed more washed out/dimmer. It's brighter than my Nook Color though.
But the colors are fairly accurate and the viewing angles are good. Hoping for a mod that increases auto-brightness levels a few notches, and a mod to adjust color temps/saturation and I'd be happy with it.
You reading this Supercurio?
This should make it easier to enable/disable NVidia's Tegra PRISM option for rooted devices only : market link
Bought the 10...love the way it runs but I bought it to show my photography work on (would use an ipad but I really detest the ios software).
The entire screen seems to be washed out overall with weak black levels and reds in particular are low saturation.
Sharp as a tack for sure....is it just mine? I see such conflicting reports in reviews although I am seeing more now about low saturation and contrast.
Very frustrating....unless someone out there knows some way of calibrating this display which I haven't found?
you are right
i am also a photographer (Canon 5D MkII)
i have watched some photos now(got my N10 yesterday) and as you said the screen is sharp as hell
i have never seen this amount of details with my DSLR photos.
im also doing hardware calibration and i see whats wrong right away and i have also tested it...the problem is that the gamma is to low.
The N10 has a Gamma Level around 1.4 - 1.5 where it should be 2.2!
(yeah that should make some attention hehe)
thats a fact and thats why we have washed out colors and bad contrast
but the good thing is that even at that low gamma we have a decent picture quality with good black levels!
i dont think the black levels on my device is washed out
it shouldnt be this good with this crappy gamma but it is
thats amazing and that tells that this is a quality screen above normal.
with correct gamma at 2.2 this screen will rock for sure.
so lets wait for some kernel guru to make some gamma adjustments
i have said i before that im willing to pay that person that makes gamma adjustment possible for the N10s.
You are correct...gamma is definitely too low.
As far as washed out reds go, I suppose I could process specifically for display on this tablet but that's a pain in the butt.
I wish the darned ipad wasn't such a restrictive ecosystem for the software. The colors rock on the ipad unfortunately but it's just too darned restrictive.

im waiting for a i1 Display Pro colormeter
when i get it i will do a hardware calibration.
but i have checked some stuff already and i think that the colors is right for its low gamma.
also the brightness for the colors seems the same for Red/Green/Blue and thats a good thing
also the contrast and black level is reference.
i also think the color temp is close to 6500k
that means that the grayscale is correct.
so the only thing that messes up this display is the low gamma.
(or wrong gamma curve/line)
you have some tests here that you can do without a colormeter,if you want to check it out
http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/
also you can download the AVSHD 709 Patterns here.
http://www.avsforum.com/t/948496/avs-hd-709-blu-ray-mp4-calibration
just copy the mp4 files to your N10 and run them.
one note that i can see is that it seems that the gamma is higher at the lower shades
it seems to be around 1.8 there
that could explain why we dont have completely washed out blacks.
but what you want is a plain straight gamma line at 2.2
the N10 seems to have a hill shaped line starting high at lower shades and lower around maximum white.
I have tested the N10 with a Pantone "hocky puck" and can confirm the observations posted above. As compared to overly saturated profiles most normal users are used to, it's no wonder many see the N10 as flat and dull. My N7 is horrible, not only flat but had a color temp that was blueish green.
Much of my publicly displayed work for general web based consumption, has the saturation pumped up farther then I like, but my "fans" (sarc) seem to enjoy my photographs when contrast and saturation is pushed high. Ironically, my over saturated photographs look good to me on the low gamma N10, lol.
Either way, most all of us would benefit from being able to adjust our N10s. As many of you know this is best done at the kernel level and the master of sound and color Samsung kernels is SuperCurio and his project Voodoo. I have heard hearsay that he is working on kernel code and color profiles that can support adjustments for the N10, but I have yet to confirm this myself.
As usual we are given hardware that needs code improvements to be fully realized and that seems to always be done by the development community. It will taken time but I am confident we'll get there to some degree soon.
As far as I could tell there is no gamma correction in the kernel because the Nexus 10 uses a new display port interface thats in the Exynos 5. Most devices I've seen have at least a static gamma table in the kernel but that doesn't appear to be true for the Nexus 10.

give him my money!
that sounds great
post in this thread if you hear more about it!
as i said in other threads i will pay around 50$ for the person that makes gamma adjustment possible for the N10.
btw: hockey puck?
are you serious ?
Is the viewing angle drastically improved in custom roms, for instance paranoid android? I feel as if the color is much better from the side, much less of a color change. Or is it me not wanting to see it after flashing?

With custom kernel , you can control color tuning and gamma setting which makes it look better... but viewing angle???
I think is something related to our sight, for istance I like the droidmeup_puncy colors from faux display, but with stock one i've better angle view,
maybe is related to saturation or contrast or whatever involving our eyes
Color OS Camera sample

CM Camera
http://s23.postimg.org/lobcj026z/IMG_20150512_134220.jpg
Now, you people judge which is the better quality picture of the two.
For me, COLOR OS has natural colors but CM Camera gives a bit more punchier colors. Clarity is great on both.
How can we decide... it's not the SAME photo on a tripod, and for sure you focused a different point in each, so different exposure for sure...
Only clear difference, it's that Cm Camera have more saturated colors than the "natural" coloros camera..
Cm Camera looks better to me...
Also, the resolution has been reduced so the actual image compression can't be compared.
I reckon that you maybe used the modded camera next which increased saturation by default.
In all my comparisons there were no visible differences between the color os and cm camera
when equally setup on auto mode.
Second photo has increased saturation (see leaves) and contrast (see sky). That's the whole difference. Reduce those parameters and you will see no difference
The examples are kind of pointless. As many pointed out - not original size, not the same composition/focus point.
As for CM camera Saturation and contrast is increased, but it can be set accordingly (at least in CMNextMOD).

People were talking about Srgb in the nexus 6p .. I tried it and the colors looked weird to me. Why would I use this feature ?
sRGB is a method of rendering colors to which the colors drawn are, in a sense, more basic and more true to the central RGB color matrix. Newer display technology is capable of rendering a wider range of colors which can increase saturation and give things a more "popping" visual as they are "truer than life". Using the sRGB setting will tone down those exaggerated colors and bring them closer to what you would see in the real world. I doubt you would see much if any performance impact be it positive or negative to the processor or battery since the technology being used can handle these varieties of colors easily. So if you find your screen to be more appealing in sRGB mode as you like LCD-like visuals versus the heavily saturated Samsung-like AMOLEDs, then you may benefit from using it. In a real-world application, I can see it being useful for seeing how your photos would really display on print or a standard LCD screen as it is reducing the range of colors and saturation created artificially by screen enhancements.
