No Firmware available for S8 ATT - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I have an unlocked S8 from ATT currently on T-Mobile with Android Version 7, i would like to upgrade to 9 but the CSC version for ATT doesn't seem to be available in updato or SamMobile, for some reason the ATT CSC its only available in samsung version SM-G950U1 but my device apparently its SM-G950U. Not sure what to do I'm new at this and don't want to brick my phone any further assistance its gladly appreciate it ! happy V-DAY ~~

You can download any of the firmware. Use the oyn part csc. It will auto personalize off your att sim. The firmware are multi carrier now.

When you download any firmware it will have a home csc and a regular. I call that one the oyn.
I have a xfinity mobile s8. I swapped to cricket. Just like att firmware is nearly unheard of. Specially on bit 7. So I flashed the multi oyn csc and inserted my cricket sim. The phone reboots and will automatically personalize with all the cricket bloat ware all the cricket settings. Despite not having a cricket firmware released at the time. All the g950u s are the same hardware so you can safely flash any g950u firmware any carrier as long as in the build number 5th digit from far end matches. Like mines a 7. So 5th digit from far end in build must be a 7 or greater

pretty much
as long as its unlocked properly just pop what ever US carrier sim in and go it should repersonlize every time

Similar - I have Oreo but I can't get Pie.
I have an unlocked Galaxy S8 (SM-G950U) and I'm using it on an Indian carrier. I can't get OTA updates since I don't have an AT&T sim. I checked SamMobile for firmware updates but couldn't find one for SM-G950U. I want to update to Pie and get One UI features but I couldn't. What should I do?

If your unlocking your Sprint phone for another carrier.

Do not use the stock Sprint software Numbers will not come formatted correctly when you receive phone calls.
For instance when you get a call it should show like this.
+1-808-123-1234
But on the Sprint software with a non Sprint Sim Card it will show like this.
+808-123-1234
So anyone who's saved in your contacts it won't show there phone number. And you also can't easily call them back from your call log.
And this also prevents blocked numbers feature from working correctly.
If you flash the unlocked firmware or you flash the carrier firmware of your choice this issues will go away.

Hmm, maybe this is why Google Voice can't send mms for me? I'm DSU'ed on G935P and using a Mint SIM (T-Mobile). When I try to send a mms from Google Voice, it says mms can't be sent to international numbers.

Nah it wouldn't reverse the unlock status, I'm 200% sure it wouldn't change anything. I personally unlock and flash the latest G955U1 and G950U1 firmware AQH3 on 6 S8+ and 1 S8. It's works great on All US carriers, you can also flash each 4 individual Carrier firmware. I have flash all of the firmware each carrier release on my SPRINT S8's with zero problems. Enjoy
Were did you get their stock firmwares? Looking for, sprints and you used a modified Odin to flash?

Did you ever get your phone unlocked ?
I have a Sprint Galaxy S8+. It has been unlocked by Sprint. I am giving it to my daughter and want to change the firmware to MetroPCS firmware for her. I have the latest T-Mobile and MetroPCS variant firmwares. Do I need a special ODIN to perform this? I'm a little confused because I keep seeing discussions about modded ODIN versions for the Galaxy S8 and S8+

AT&T Branded S8 moving from AT&T service to Verizon

Hi,
I have read through a bunch of threads but have not seen my exact situation but I think I know what I have to do but want to get some advice from the experts here.
I purchased an AT&T branded phone an activated on AT&T a year ago. We needed to switch to Verizon so I got the unlock code from AT&T and switched no problem. As part of the switch Samsung has a BYOD feature that changes some of the software and menus from AT&T to Verizon. It was actually pretty cool because it removed the ATT apps loaded some VZW instead. Below is a link that describes the feature if you are not familiar:
Enjoy the Freedom of BYOD
So all is mostly good except I believe the menu change to update the firmware OTA is pointing to VZW and not ATT. When I run the update check it just says no updated needed. Looking at VZW they have updated their latest OTA version on August 1st here G950USQU5CRH1 so I know it is not trying to update to that.
ATT just released their version today August 30th here G950USQS5CRH1 but that is not updating either.
I will try this again over the next couple days to see if the updater is smart enough to find the ATT version but I am guessing I am probably in no man's land and will need to update manually using SamMobile or Updato or something else.
Any thoughts are very much appreciated.
Thank you.
I have tried a number of things like all the Verizon tools, Smart Switch, etc. and nothing will trigger a download.
I am downloading the only file from SamMobile that looks like the same version on the AT&T site but is says it is Verizon hopefully that will not matter. I will try to flash it with Odin and see what happens.
As an alternate I chatted with Samsung and they gave me the address of the a Best Buy in my area that will update the firmware for me. I guess some of the BB have Samsung techs in them. Kind of a pain but at least there is a back up.
Not sure if anyone is following this but I thought I would close this out. All options have failed.
Not even Samsung at Best Buy can flash the firmware since in their tool my phone shows up as VZW/VZW/ATT. So what I thought was a cool feature of the BYOD changing carriers only cripples the phone from an Update perspective, what a bad design. I would change carrier firmware as in some of the guides here but the problem is that I do not have G950U1 or G950U2. I have G950US which the older guides do not address.
I am either going to buy a prepaid ATT card but I hate to give those horrible people another dime or I will sell this phone and maybe just get Samsung branded like others in my family and they get updates from Samsung or go get an iPhone. I dislike iPhones a lot but at least Apple does not let the carriers screw around with their firmware.
Solved! Not sure why this site never showed up in my previous searches here or on the web.
https://samsung.firmware.science
Found the latest 2 OTA updates and applied them perfectly.
Well I can't say I've ran into this problem, but I to use ATT and am looking to eventually move to VZW, so I really appreciate your time and effort in making this thread as this isnt something I would have thought of myself. Also, that website is kick a**! thanks for sharing that
I was an ATT customer for 14 years on my wireless. The migration on the family 2 iPhones, 1 Samsung unlocked S8+ and my ATT S8 went perfect. I am the only one that had the firmware update problem because the other devices get updates directly from Apple of course and Samsung for the S8+.
My experience so far with VZW is excellent! For our family plan it was a little cheaper but our main reason fro moving was the network quality. Verizon in my area is so far ahead of ATT it is really shocking. Great call quality and data and coverage is fantastic. We had so many problems with ATT not sure why I stayed so long. They gave me a piece of junk Microcell to try and fix the issues at my house but even when we go to the ATT store that is 1 mile away, they do not even get wireless service in the store. They all have to use WiFi calling.
I have to really be impressed to recommend a company but VZW technology is well worth it for me. We will see how the rest to the customer services is.
What happened with the firmware you flashed with Odin? You can go to Updato.com and Download G950U or U1 firmware which is MUCH faster than the hours Sammobile takes. With newer firmware you can flash any carriers firmware (Go to Updato and download VZW firmware for example) because your phone installs the necessary files depending on the sim card you're running. Been that way for quite a while now.
Be careful with Firmware science as some of those builds aren't what is released so when a newer update does drop from VZW you wont get it again because you have a conflicting build number. Then you'll be back here asking why. Also, every time there's an updated firmware on FW Science you'll have to reinstall everything as flashing that update.zip wipes the phone post install. It gets really old.

Hi thanks for your input, I have 1 question to you, as I understand from your post you are talking about if mobile is already on VRZ firmware but have issue with OTA update? am I right? if not could you be so kind to tell me I'm on AT&T firmware G892AUCS3BRG1 (AT&T OREO Firmware) can I somehow switch to VRW or some other carrier? in addition, I have no Verizon sim and no AT&T sim as well I'm in Georgia and in our area, there are no such operators.
from my perspective it is good to have TMB firmware this would be the best option for me if it is possible
thank you in advance for your cooperation

SM-T827R (US Cellular) flashed with T827V (Verizon Oreo) - Working no issues

I purchased a US Cellular branded Tab S3 to use on AT&T when I found out they sell them unlocked. I also recently wanted Oreo on it and after some digging found US Cellular still hasn't released an update but there was one from Turkey and one from VzW. I tried to find a concrete yes/no if I can flash other variants of the T827 models firmware without luck so figured I'd roll the dice on it myself. This weekend I tracked down the VzW Oreo firmware and used Odin to install it on my US Cell Tab. The first round I had a couple of errors and for a second thought I had a new paper weight, but kept calm and ran through the process again and it worked!
Just a note:
At first boot it will say the SIM is invalid and to put in a VzW SIM, but you can click ok and keep going. Once done setting up on wifi you can then go into settings and add the AT&T APN and connect over cell.
Could you post where you got the VZW image? I'd like to try this. I can't believe USC hasn't updated their tabs yet. I'm tired of asking when the update will arrive!

Not sure that was a good idea. If indeed you did manage to flash the VZW bootloader then the tablet is now likely bootloader locked with no way of returning to its original state.

Was this verified to be the case? Also would the verizon combination file work on the uscelluar tablet? I picked up a cheap SM-T827R4 that is FRP locked. I am waiting to hear back from the original owner if they would be willing to bypass the verification for me.

I was able to flash the combo file for the SM-T827V (Verizon version of the Tab S3) to bypass the FRP lock. I used the one on gsm-firmware.com After which I was able to reflash the uscelluar firmware from sammobile. I don't know if this is exactly the same as the OP's method, but hope it helps someone else out in the future.

Sorry for the late reply on this. I downloaded the image files from sammobile and installed them with odin. I've been up and running on Oreo (VzW branded) since my post and have had no issues or reasons to flash to anything else. I have tried to run an update but it says it can't register, which i assume is because it's hitting the VzW servers w an ATT SIM from a USC device!

You just need to put a Verizon SIM in it once (and so far only once) to check for updates. The SIM doesn’t even need to be provisioned. Then you can check for updates with your normal SIM.
I’ve had a VZW Tab S3 for over a year that I have been using with AT&T. I updated to Oreo without any issues with my AT&T SIM installed.
Wanted to first say thanks for the tip -- and echo that The T827R4 does in accept the Verizon Oreo firmware via the latest version of Odin, though with a build just a few releases behind it threw an error and would not flash.
I guess if we can't have root we may as well have Oreo.

You're right about Verizon firmware running really smooth. Much better than the US Cellular firmware. After flashed VZ firmware, the model changed to SM-T827V.
in case anyone has the us cellular model, you really don't need to flash the verizon firmware because the us cellular model has a more updated firmware than the verizon model.
the model is actually SM-T827R4, oreo with apr 2019 security and OTA update works too.
though no pie update yet (same as verizon)
So these can't be flashed to the stock 820 pie rom?

How can my S8 factory unlocked phone be model # SM-G950U instead of SM-G950U1?

Hello, I have a Samsung S8 that I bought unlocked at Best Buy 2 years ago in USA. It was with android 7.0 at that time.
I can't receive updates automatically now because I flashed it with ODIN last year to get Android 8.0 before the carrier that I use was ready to offer it. So the updates won't be automatic anymore.
So my phone is an unlocked one and I tought that the model # was supposed to be SM-G950U1 when it's factory unlocked but mine is SM-G950U. How can that be possible? I looked at my phone specs and my CSC is still XAA so it's really unlocked. I want to install Andoid Pie manually and I don't know what firmware to use on SAMmobile to flash it to android P because none of the files for the SM-G950U is with CSC XAA. Only SM-G950U1 have XAA firmare available. I don't want to lock my phone to a particular carrier.
Another thing I tried to update my phone: I used a series of firmware updates available at firmware.science. The problem is that the last update I did was from G950USQU4CRE9 to G950USQU5CRG1. If I want to continue the chain of updates, the next available step is from G950USQU5CRG3 so I'm blocked because I'm at G950USQU5CRG1. What can I do to go further in my update process?
Ultimately I want to be able to automatically update my phone to android Pie.
Thanks!

You can use SamFirm, SamMobile or Updato to download SM-G950U firmware G950USQU5DSC1. (Don't download G950USQS5CSB1 which is for Sprint or Verizon.) That firmware file includes all CSCs for US carriers and the one that gets used depends on the sales code in your phone, which is XAA in this case. Flash that firmware in Odin and you should be fine.
Oh, and I am 100% sure that the G950U firmware includes the XAA CSC... It's installed on my phone right now!

Hello, all I did was to choose the right firmware on SAMmobile (https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G950U/TMB/download/G950USQU5DSC1/264390/), download it and follow each step to update with ODIN like you can see by searching on Google "How to Install Samsung Galaxy S8/S8+ Android Pie (One UI) Update".
I'm not in US even if I bought my phone in the US and it works in Canada with any carrier with the firmware from T-mobile. That is all I can tell you about how to choose the right firmware.

Galaxy s8 SM-G950U Didn't Recieve Android 9 Update

I have the snapdragon variant of the s8 and I regularly check for updates but the last update it got was from july 2018. I would like add that I live in the UK and it is an unlocked version of the S8. Is there a way to obatin the one ui update manualy as I cant get it through the US version of the samsung members app either?

You can download the latest at updato.com or sammobile.com and flash using the latest odin tool
Here u can find and download manually android pie for your model
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G950U/
But u can also use updato.com for faster download speed.
Be sure to use latest Odin 3.13.3
Edit: it seems @TheMadScientist was a bit faster then me
Would I still be able to have the unlocked version of the s8 or will flashing the update lock it to a specific sim career?

Depends if you download the U1 bit 5 firmware or the U firmware These devices are hardly locked to any carrier if it is sim unlocked Switching is so easy now
Thanks for the quick replys guys, I was thinking of flashing this firmware for the UK unlocked s8.

Would I be able to flash different firmware afterwards if this one doesn't work out properly?
BTW I have attached a picture of my current software details: https://m.imgur.com/a/v7j79L4

Yes you can flash another. That's boost Mobile a cdma sprint subsidiary
If your carrier is a gsm it won't work more than likely but as long as you stay bit 5 you can flash any of them
Ohh I see I didn't know it was cdma, uk uses gsm only so a tmobile firmware would make more sense such as this one https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s8/SM-G950U/TMB/download/G950USQU5DSD3/272406/
