Hello
I managed to get AOSP Android R running on Pixel 2 XL via the new website flash.android.com . However, it's still in the very initial stages with barebones on 11 and GAPPS are still not integrated/baked into it.
Tried using OPEN GAPPS pico but still no go.
Let's keep this thread alive. Will keep you all posted if there is any success :good:

No baseband? Do you have any type of service with this version or is it still to early to even test RIL yet?

Is this a ROM (as the thread title says)? Or just a link to Google Android R preview?

Flashed the OTA yesterday with TWRP, seems pretty stable. Looks like they folded in some gesture tweaks and scheduled dark mode.

Went back to a 10 custom ROM, it was pretty stable though. The tweaks reminded me of what ABC/DU has.

Yeah this gesture tweaks would help I guess. I like the gesture control but it definitely causes problems using my right hand and trying to open hamburger menus on the left side of the screen.

My shoulder has been starting to hurt from holding the phone up in the same hand for over a decade....the gesture control allows me to actually control the phone pretty well with my off hand except for stuff like the hamburger menu.
Just now I sideloaded the Android 11 OTA of preview 1 on my P2XL without issues yet, we'll see how's it going...
I'm fully stock, just activated OEM unlock and ADB but smooth sailing so far!
Edit: of course data is being kept by using the OTA package

With that, some words of wisdom:
1.This is an Android 5.1 Lollipop-based release - update your third party addons to ensure compatibility
2.The CM backupscript.sh in recovery will ignore and remove incompatible applications from your system partition (these are usually non-CM apps that users have opted to install). You must install a compatible app (or app pack) to regain that functionality
3.You can flash CM12.1 nightlies directly from CM11 M12 or CM 11 nightlies (no need to wipe), provided you read and followed items 1 and 2
4.Once on CM12.1 nightlies, you cannot downgrade back to CM11 without wiping – if you are thinking of just exploring the release, then take a backup of your existing installation if you want to go back to it.
5.You’ll need an L compatible recovery DOWNLOAD post #2 [TWRP - install]
6.For those which have problem with root acces - flashable superSU file via custom recovery.
6a.Check also on developer options is there root acces is "thick" for APPS+ADB
enjoy!

"We would like to note that at this point we consider ourselves 85% complete for our initial CM12 M release. We’ll spend the remainder of this month bringing up additional devices and finishing up the features you’ve come to love from CM11 – implementing them into the new Material UI.
At this point, the following large items are not implemented, but should be in the next few weeks. Some additional smaller tweaks are also missing, but left off this list:
Theme Engine
Quick Settings reorganization and customization
Quick Settings Ribbon mode
Navigation bar reorganization and customization
Sound panel customization
Lock-screen quick unlock"
Thank you for this!! Been waiting patiently! Gonna d/l and flash now.

Unless they changed their policy, this was their stance on encryption for OFFICIAL releases as of 10/31. You can still flash a different kernel that supports unencrypted volumes though, or install an unofficial release that comes with a different kernel.
"Items not up for debate:
1) Watering down of SELINUX protections or Encryption by default. These are base protections L is introducing and we should support these items as such. If your device fails to allow encrypting, it will not get a CM sanctioned release."
hopefully the theme engine will be here soon just waiting for that before I flash.
Verizon LTE Support??
Does this support Verizon LTE or is it plagued by the ongoing issues found with some of the other CM-based ROMs for shamu?
you have to try your own couse it is avialible from couple of hours

Some of the other roms see issues like no data on certain carriers. I am running LS on sprint and it is working good except i have sms fail occasionally.

Shouldn't this be in Original Android development since this is the official thread?
I have install this build and first impression:
DIALER is much response compared to pure shamu rom + sensei kernel
no lag
no SOD
phone is not hot
during install this ROM phone being encrypted (it takes 30s)
it needs time to say more
Downloading now to see
one more thing so much important :
enough loud voice during a call without any modification! (out of the box)
what kernel would you guys recommend using to stay as close as possible to stock but with out encryption?
ROOT is a little different. Took me awhile to figure out that privacy guard has to be enabled on the app to recognize superuser access. Looks good other than the white background is killing me! cant wait for themes.
greenify seems to freeze the phone when using this first nightly. weird cuz it didnt happen with the unofficial builds.
Outstanding.
My favorite ROM is possibly just hours from being released to the public.
This ROM is typically soooo stable and features tons of customization.
I imagine we'll have to wait for all the usual features to be added.
I mean, it is the FIRST to drop.
This is still a fresh ROM and will likely have some ironing out to be done but that is what the ROM world is all about.

Yes. Seems fine, a little laggy compared to stock imho. And camera is lacking. I went back to stock as I couldn't get the official camera on play store. I've extracted the apk and will test a other day. Lazy.
Seems snappy for me. Got this error FAILED (remote: partition table doesn't exist) when trying to flash the vendor, but it still booted and works fine (gave me a an old vendor error on first boot, but doesn't seem to have affected anything

Well let me know how it goes, I'll flash it again if you have good news. Let us know if your able to root as well.
I wonder if I need to flash the vendor if I'm already on NMF26O?
I flashed the full 7.1.1 to both slots. I wonder if I could dual boot this on one slot and stock/root/Elemental on another slot.
EDIT: Just had a thought. Since both slots share userdata, wiping to flash would this rom would wipe my other slot as well. :-/

Install (with TWRP v3.0.3-1)
- Dirty flashed on top of 4.02
- Immediately flashed SuperSU 2.79 SR3
Coming from 4.0, I flashed the full Beta 2 ROM, followed by SuperSU, and end up stuck on the three dot loading screen until I hard shutdown. I thought I was just impatient the first time, but it has now been 10+ minutes with no change. Suggestions? Do I need to be coming from 4.0.2 or something?

The issue you faced is you flashed beta 2 directly over Official 4.0.1, you'll need to do a fresh install or just flash official 4.0.2 over 4.0.1, but as your already in a bit of a mess then you'll have to either clean install Beta 2 or official 4.0.2, the decision is yours.....:good:
Yeah, did not nail that the first time. I restored, updated to 4.0.2, and am now running the Beta 2 with no problems

Huh, I was expecting it the first Monday of August. Whatever. Downloading now.
Better early than late!
Rebooting now from manual install. Woot!
Just finished the update, booted to twrp, installed twrp, unlocked data with pattern, installed twrp and magisk 16.7 now when booting it wont accept my pattern and now rebooting into the installed twrp the touch screen doesnt work.

Question?... I originally installed an earlier developer/beta version of Andriod P on my Pixel 2 XL however I had issues pairing my S3 gear watch with my phone while on Android P. It seemed that with the correct original plugins that my samsung gear S3 watch would continue to pair but the Samsung gear App would just force close upon trying to open it. I had erased the plugins and had to get off Android P back to 8.1 to reinstall the plugins at which time I opted to just stay on 8.1.
So my question is has anyone had any luck using the Samsung gear watch App in DP5, and/or have you had any pairing issues??? Wondering has anyone encountered this?
I'm on verizion ,but I took out sim card on DP4 did factory reset set phone up then insert card so I don't get the bloat when it was released.I just received the OTA to DP5 about an hour ago.
Any changes in this last release?
I'm a little disappointed with Android p. I feel like it's half baked. Gestures aren't the most intuitive, dark theming is pointless. Not sure why the the settings and the rest of the UI isn't dark. Animations need more work. And the bad news, is this what the final version will look like.
NFC working in this preview build?

I've been on Phone since DP2. Zero problems with my gear. Just do not do a clean flash to P or a factory reset on P. I did the latter in O then took the DP2 OTA.
Pretty stable so far, no major bug found. One small caveat is that the device mostly stays in 60Hz, there's a fix to make it run at 120Hz but it doesn't stay for long.
Guide to upgrade at #2.

Hey, thanks for this guide.
I'm in the US, so I'm used to OOS, so I just have to ask if Google stuff is included in ColorOS? Or is it in this Coloros12 beta build at least? Just wanted to ask before I try this out, as I like having Google on my phone.
Thanks again. Hope to hear back.

Most of the Google service are included, but Play Store is not installed by default. You can just download a Play Store APK from APKMirror/APKPure/... and it will work just fine.
One small problem is in the setting, it shows that the device is not certified, maybe Magisk can fix that.

Thanks for the reply
And that will do just fine. I don't care about the not certified thing personally.

Link to MSM does not work. Is there an alternative download?

I think you can directly upgrade the ColorOS 12 build from Oxygen 11, but you'll need a complete data format for it to work

I'm not sure, you can try it out and let me know if that works
Do these colorOS builds pass Ssfteynet if Play is installed? And is there any risk on a T-Mobile 8T like there was when you flash 9R firmware

You can use https://github.com/Magisk-Modules-Repo/MagiskHidePropsConf to change build fingerprint to official 8T release. It will make your CTS pass. I am rooted and have safetynet pass with fod working!
