Can't Root SM-A207M - Samsung Galaxy A20 Questions & Answers

Hello, I would like to get this phone rooted but it seems to be genuinely impossible, many different methods on both this site and others have been tried and failed. Every one of them ends with (I think) Knox getting tripped and it saying with red text and black highlight "Boot Check FAILED" . The boot loader is unlocked

When you follow those instructions perfectly, you get the result shown in the photo. This is directly after rebooting from recovery after factory resetting.
What is not specified in the video that may or may not help:
Odin version
Android version
Magisk version (i can see 7.3 if i remember)
What, if any of these variables make a difference?
I've tried this on Android 9 and 10
I used Odin3_v3.14.4 and Magisk 7.5.1
Perhaps you meant to show the video of an actual A20M being successfully rooted this way. The generic modern A model method does not apply.
Posting this link is only going to make people fail. It should be removed as it does not work. I'd really like you to correct me. Maybe everyone is not using proper odin version (the one that passes) or Magisk.

I forgot the photos.

No. I am not overly disappointed. Apart from no vibration on the keyboard, Samsung has done most of the work already. Screen size is decent, no bixby or even a flipboard to the left. Most of the stuff this phone has been denied i never use. I miss good lock and some key root apps like viper and battery charge limit.
I've no idea not what unlocking the bootloader does other than a warning and no OTA. Perhaps some of us need to learn how to do this instead of waiting. There's plenty of knowledge here and maybe most of the work with the A205 can help. Get brickin'!

I have an S7 Edge SM-G935A on Nougat 7.0.0 and rooted, and I was having trouble with connections in apps detecting root. I searched for solutions online, and found Magisk could help mask root from apps. I foolishly tried installing it on my phone without reading about the prerequisites and after turning off my phone, I get the message "System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on your phone." The only way I know right now to fix it is to do a complete stock flash, but I didn't want to resort to that just yet, wondering if there was some other way to remove Magisk, bypass the message, or recover my data (photos & contacts) before I did so?

{ROOT} SM-G955F/FD G955FXXU1AQG5 Sucessfully Rooted With SuperSU

Hello XDAians
Today I sucessfully rooted my S8+ (G955FD) With Supersu.
Please Follow these Steps to get Root Access.... All files given in below link. This method only works on 955F/FD becoz i tested it. I dont know about other Variant. If anything happens to other variant i am not responsible, So please confirm before root.
So....follow these steps.
1. BackUp your existing important datas before root.
2. You need Odin 3.12.3 , you can find it on Odindownload.com
3. Download all files from below link and extract wherever you want
4. Switch off your device and go to download mode.
5. Connect your device with Original USB C cable to PC or Laptop
6. Now Open Odin, Select Ap and add TWRP 3.1.1.2 given in attachment.
7. DO NOT PRESS START YET..... Go to Options in Odin and remove tick on Auto-Reboot
8. Now Click Start.....Now your device will have TWRP installed.
9. Once Odin says PASS....Just Press and Hold Volume Down + bixby + Power buttons. in 5 Seconds Your screen will gone black. Immediatly with out release Bixby and Power button , release volume down and press and hold Volume Up. Now you will taken to TWRP Custom recovery.
10. Now you ask for some messages, do not click any check boxes, just swipe and you will be in main screen.
11. Now go to wipe - select format data- confirm with yes and format it.
12. connect your cable with pc/lap, go to advance settings and select ADB Sideload.
13. Most of you have minimal Adb package. if dont download from here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120698566
14. So now you have to side load the first package.
15. Copy no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip and UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.82-20170528234214.zip to minimal directory. and change names for both zip files if needed. After that, Open cmd in minimal directory and enter the following commands.
16. First One. adb sideload no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1.zip (you must flash this one first)
17. After flash done, go back to twrp main screen, Select reboot - and select recovery. if a screen shows two check boxes untick and select do not install.
18. Now your device restart and boot back to twrp. Now its time for second command. Now navigate to advance settings- select adb sideload
19. Second Command : adb sideload UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.82-20170528234214.zip
20. After sucessfull flash .....Reboot. if two check boxes shows again, untick it and select donot install. Your device will reboot.
Boot will take some time. So do not panic. You device is now rooted

I guess many of us cares about warranty, even if they want to root their phone (including me, without using custom rom). Too shame if you have root on your device, and it's stops working you aren't covered anymore even if you can demonstrably that it caused by defected hardwares.
ps: I had the same situation with my LG G4 with it's motherboard issue. They didn't wanted to fix it, even LG acknowledged that those phones have defective motherboard (And the fault was still in production).
Shame on LG...

I can google and I did that, but Ive found no real solution thats why I asked it here. Because of Hungarian and EU laws, even if Knox is triggered, Samsung can't refuse repairs within warranty But as soon as it is triggered, a few features will stop working and you'll need to be on a custom ROM for them to work (stuff like Samsung Health, pretty much everything Knox related, and of course Samsung Pay).
As it was said before, this regulation is to be used even if there's no local law about it. You can ALWAYS reference it towards the manufacturer. However Samsung in the EU, especially with flagships, is quite nice. Premium category, premium support, etc., they usually even replace stuff that was damaged by the user.
I have a G955FD also. I'll be trying this when I can to confirm. Yeah I returned my unlocked G955U because I hear there is no way in hell that was going to get the bootloader unlocked. All I want is to root my phone and do some minor tweaks, no change in ROM is fine with me. Maybe tomorrow if I can understand the steps well. I'm a noob so I'll have to make sure I get the steps right.

Root was figured out for the USA Snapdragon S8+, and will trickle down to the S8 as well when the appropriate files are found. S8+ release will be any day now. Bootloader still faces the same issue.

That's interesting. All the posts I read is that there's no way it would ever be rooted because of the bootloader. This is my first international phone, so I think it would be fine to steer away from the Snapdragon for a change.

By all means, probably a good idea. Just simply updating you with the fact Snapdragon has root too, just not bootloader unlock.
I have the UAE version (G955FD) with build G955FXXU1AQG5.
THIS METHOD WORKS! Thank You!
I am not a developer, I am just a guy that likes to do minor tweaks with root access.
But I'm wondering if from step 12 onward, wouldn't it be possible to just load verity and supersu on the SDCard prior starting this whole process and just flash it that way rather than sideloading? Should be the same thing.
One more thing is I got this notification after the whole root process and installing all apps saying "unauthorized access blah blah, restart to fix." This was shown by the device management. I couldn't stop that notification from popping up even after swiping away. What I did was I just froze SecurityLogAgent 5.1.09 with Titanium and that solved that problem.

Bricked?

Hi,
I have the OnePlus 5 8GB.
I unlocked my bootload, rooted my phone, all good.
But then I realized android pay is not working with rooted phones, so i wanted to undo it.
for some reason i ran this because i found it in a guide to lock the bootloader again (yes, it was was stupid):
./fastboot flashing lock
After that i got the message that my device is corrupt and cant boot. So i ran ./fastboot oem unlock and that message disappeard.
I tried booting, but nothing happend for 10 minutes, still boot animation. so i went into fastboot, flashed twrp and tried doing a factory reset, but whatever i do, I get tons of these error messages:
Updating partition details...
Error opening: '/data/misc/[...]
Error opening: '/data/user_de/0/[...['
(No such file or directory)
What can I do?
I can even ADB sideload because of those errors.
edit:
also it shows nothing for bootloader version or baseband version in the fastboot screen.
https://imgur.com/a/z2KN3
doesnt look good. cant copy anything to device or from device
Might have to RMA the phone. I'm not sure I've seen anyone unbrick a phone after locking the bootloader with a custom recovery still installed. I hope someone knows of a way. Good luck bro.
Also, of you get it working, use Magisk, it allows Android pay to work while rooted

Since it's obvious someone tampered with the software, they may reject it.
You don't lose warranty if you root, but they won't cover the cost if anything happens to it due to the user's intervention.
If you manage to get the stock ROM onto the phone, you may be able to flash it from TWRP.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this.
This is the first time I've tried to system update my Razer Phone 2 since rooting it. I use Magisk. [SM-G950W] Running official Android 9 on Samsung S8, help me understand my options (root, custom ROM)

Canadian SM-G950W Snapdragon Samsung S8 on Android 9 user here.
I've been reading a lot trying to figure out what I can do with regards to rooting & installing custom ROM. But the available info is confusing and contradicting.
Could anyone please answer my questions below?
1. Can I root S8 that is running Android 9?
I've tried naively to flash CF-Auto-Root with Odin , but got an error.
2. Knowing that bootloader is locked I thought I could downgrade to Android 7 and unlock the bootloader
Paid for SAMMOBILE firmware, but Odin failed to flash Android 7. Then I read somewhere that you CAN NOT downgrade Samsung phones. Is that the case?
3. What is the roadmap for flashing custom kernel, ROM and rooting SM-G950W Snapdragon Samsung S8 on Android 9?
At the end of my wits here... Thank you in advance!

Use Magisk. Flash TWRP, then install Magisk in TWRP. This won't be possible if the bootloader cannot be unlocked

Depends on the binary version, the screen text in Download Mode should tell you. You can't downgrade the binary, so if it changed from 3 to 4 (for example) and is currently on 4, you can only flash binary 4 firmware, but you can't downgrade to 3.

I'll try to put this simply:
Enable OEM unlocking in developer options
Unlock bootloader (wipes data)
Boot device, set up Google/Samsung account, connect to the Internet
Perform a manual update check, do not download update
Check to ensure OEM Unlocking is still visible
Put device in download mode and flash TWRP; immediately boot TWRP, do not allow device to reboot into system, otherwise it will restore the stock recovery
Make sure you flash the Multidisabler in TWRP to disable encryption and recovery restoration
Flash Magisk in TWRP to gain root
Boot into system and set up device, install the Magisk app to manage root.
I would leave it on Pie. Anything below that has nasty vulnerabilities like X helper.
If you want more performance optimize it with Package Disabler or adb edits.
If that doesn't get it, get a N10+, a huge performance and cam increase.

But the bootloaded IS locked on Android 9, thus Magisk/TWRP can't be installed. Or did I get something wrong?
And since @blackhawk just said to leave it on Android 9 - can anything be done at all?

Are you saying it can't be unlocked? Or simply that it is not unlocked?
The bootloader unlock has nothing to do with the Android version. Whether you can unlock it might though.

And since @blackhawk just said to leave it on Android 9 - can anything be done at all?

Blackhawk is a cranky old curmodgeon, don't listen to him. Totally kidding, he's a smart guy.
So let's focus on Step 1. Enable Developer Options, do you see the OEM Unlocking toggle?
@V0latyle
first of all, thank you for your time and patience.
nope, no such thing under Developer options. neither grayed out, it's just not there.

Okay, so you're on the latest update. See if you can download and flash CSL1
If that works try AQD9
Next time you're in download mode, either take a picture of your screen or post what it says for SW REV or RP REV
consider downloaded - 6min left.
should I use standard ODIN to flash it?
Bad news but OEM Unlock does not exist on North American models. So you are out of luck unless you have a low bit number which then you can go to @afaneh92 for US/Canada Samsung BL unlocking
